Special TV Show Cover Letter

This special cover letter was written for a client of mine which she bought as part of her standard CV Writing package, including a bespoke cover letter.

You'll soon see that it's rather different from the usual job application letter because it was written specially for a very different application altogether. The position being applied for is on the British television show "The Apprentice" hosted by Sir Alan Sugar, where a number of hopefuls compete to carry out business related tasks with the eventual winner becoming Sir Alan's apprentice. And that job carries a £100,000 salary.

That will explain why this special cover letter is different - and why my client has an interview on Saturday!

As the Chief Management Accountant of a £4 million turnover private bakery, I led a team of 10 qualified and part qualified staff through the installment of new financial systems and the re-design and implementation of improved, accessible and informative reporting systems. I just realized that my resume writing guide was becoming a little old and had a couple of outdated links in it.

The interview is the point in the whole job selection process when your preparation comes together and you know whether all your work has paid off. It's also the point at which you are truly on your own, so you need to be ready and to be confident.

Some pointers to remind you:

As you enter the interview room, try to create a favorable atmosphere with a warm greeting. Use a strong handshake and establish direct eye contact. Remember to use the interviewer’s name and try to appear positive, interested, and confident (but never to the point of cockiness or abrasiveness).

Remember also that you are there at the interview because the company is interested in you from their initial assessment of your application; your cover letter and resume.

They are not trying to trick or embarrass you; they want you to be successful.

Job Search Advice From a Dragon

Writing in The Telegraph last week, serial entrepreneur, executive recruitment firm founder and Dragon's Den star James Caan was looking at job searching and the stance one should take.

I have found a way for you to do some practice careers questionnaires - numerical reasoning - verbal reasoning - aptitude tests - logical reasoning and a careers explorer which will give you an exact idea of what you may face before your next interview.

Assessment or careers questionnaires are structured systematic ways of evaluating how people perform on tasks or react to different situations. They all have standardized methods of administration and scoring so that the results may be quantified and compared with how others have done under the same conditions on the same tests (norm groups). Careers Questionnaire are increasingly administered on a computer.

There are the following timed, careers questionnaires and free practice aptitude tests on the web site which will help you, including answers and working out:

Numerical Reasoning

Letter Sequences (logical reasoning)

Non-Verbal Reasoning (spatial ability / diagrammatic reasoning)

Careers questionnaire tests are usually only part of the overall assessment procedure when you apply for a job.
