That way everybody benefits from shared knowledge.

You should see "Submit Questions" and "Introduce Yourself" and when you click on either one you will find new pages that are interactive.

Submit Questions encourages you to ask your career related questions and get answers!

I strive to do my best with my knowledge and experience of the job market and related industry. Please note that different organizations might not follow the exact same methods of interview and selection that I outline, but they will be the best available advice.

If you are job hunting or looking for any executive positions, then the Executive CV you are planning to send is the one thing you cannot afford to get wrong. The World of Difference UK programme, delivered by the Vodafone Foundation, has launched to give 500 people the power to make a difference by putting something back into the community. The two month programme gives people the opportunity to take a paid placement with a UK charity of their choice. World of Difference UK is open to anyone over 18 in the UK who has the passion, drive and commitment to donate themselves to a charity. Taking part involves finding the right charity to suit interests, skills and experience and completing an online application form at vodafone.co.uk/worldofdifference by 3 November 2009.

Finding the right charity is easy as the website has a unique online Charity Matchmaker tool, developed in consultation with the UK ’s leading volunteering charity, WorldWide Volunteering. If you’re successful, the Vodafone Foundation will pay the charity you choose a total of £2,500 and you’ll get the balance when tax and National Insurance have been paid.

In addition, Vodafone UK will donate a new mobile phone and pre-paid credit to each of the 500 successful applicants so they can share their experiences with friends and family and inspire others to make a difference. The deadline for applications for World of Difference UK is 3 November, with the first placements beginning in January 2010.

Cover Letter Secret #1 - Drop The Big Words

Always keep one thing in mind: when you write a cover letter, you're not trying to impress readers with your vocabulary. You're trying to land an interview.

"Write your cover letter in language anyone can understand. Bring it all together with a friendly tone throughout and chances are you've got yourself a winner," says Sweeney.

So, don't write gibberish, like this:

"I have consulted, choreographed, compiled and specifically isolated technological solutions for challenging, yet highly inordinate retroflex samplings that have lead me to a potential mathematical resolution."

Write in plain English:

"I have taken the time to research your company and am very impressed. I have a real passion for this industry. I would love the chance to interview with (company name) for the position of account executive. Thank you in advance for the opportunity. I really look forward to meeting you."

See the difference?

"To improve your cover letter, simply read it out loud. If you find tongue twisters or wording that sounds a little too impressive, fix them! Write as you speak and let your personality shine through. Show your enthusiasm and clearly ask for the job interview," says Sweeney.

Cover Letter Secret #2 - Ask And Ye Shall Receive

Want more job interviews? The answer is simple. All you have to do is ask -- clearly and directly.

Most job hunters beat around the bush in their letters. But this is a mistake, according to Sweeney. "Use your cover letter as the marketing tool to bring home the one result you most desire -- the job interview. And you get that interview by asking for it," he says.

Here's one way to ask for that interview:

"I am excited about meeting you for an interview at your earliest convenience to discuss how my credentials meet your needs. I can be reached at 555-555-5555 and will call you to follow up, as well, to make sure you received my application."

This approach can work as your final paragraph. Remember, you are asking the reader (HR Director, Hiring Manager) to take a specific action. You want him or her to pick up the phone to call you for the interview. Don't leave it to chance -- ask directly.

Cover Letter Secret #3 - P.S., Hire Me!

Here's a blockbuster cover letter secret, one proven by decades of advertising.

It's this: add a P.S. to your cover letter.

What the heck for, you ask?

A P.S. is nearly impossible to ignore. When you see one in a letter, you are practically forced to read it. Smart marketers have known this for nearly 100 years. (To prove it for yourself, read any 10 "junk mail" letters and you will find a P.S. at the end of at least 9. Try it!)

"A few years ago, my background in marketing led me to insert a P.S at the end of a job-search cover letter. I figured if it worked so well selling things by mail, it would help job-seekers who want to 'sell' themselves to employers," says Sweeney.

And what happened?

"My clients immediately experienced a dramatic increase in job interviews when they started adding a P.S.," says Sweeney.

Here's an example:

P.S. I would like to restate my desire to interview for the position of {insert job title }. {Company name} is #1 on my list of companies I want to work for. I am available immediately and can be reached on my mobile phone at 555-555-5555. Thank you!

In the above example, your P.S. can directly ask for the interview and tell the reader what action to take. You can also restate why you believe you're such a strong candidate for the job.

"Take advantage of the fact that people are trained to read a P.S. -- be sure to include one in your next cover letter," suggests Sweeney.

A New Career In Gardening

Did you know you could make money from growing plants and even turn it into a new business quite easily?

How would you like to make money growing plants?

Probably one of the most enjoyable thing for gardeners is watching new plants grow. I love it when one of my plants I grew from seed or cutting starts to grow, then flowers for the first time.

The only problem with growing new plants is we get to many, our gardens get crowed and we end up throwing some out, or we stop growing new plants. One solution for this is to sell some. Not only does it provide us with some space in our greenhouse, it also allows us to finance our gardening hobby, for free.

I want to share with you a secret. The most enjoyable business in the world is making money from growing plants, and if you have a few spare plants, you can start today.

The first thing you will need to do is to start growing some plants. The best way to do this is to either, sow some seeds, Take some cuttings or divide some perennials.

Sowing Seeds

To me this is a easy way to grow plants. There are lots to chose from, to start with its probably best to grow some perennials such as Lupins, delphiniums, campanula, poppies ect. We want to chose plants which are easy to grow and flower quickly. Check out a seed catalogue and look for first year flowering.

Sow the seeds in a seed tray, wait for them to germinate and within a couple of weeks that can be potted. Once potted wait a for them to flower (six to eight weeks), then sell them.

Taking Cuttings

This is a little harder than seeds, but it opens up more possibilities. You can grow most plants from softwood cuttings, but our aim here is to grow and sell quick, so chose fuchia, geraniums, Phlox ect. You can grow shrubs also this way but we want quick results to start with so if you search the web for plants to grow this way, we want plants which will root in a week and flower young.

The easiest way to take cuttings is softwood cuttings, just cut out the tips of a stock plant, put them in a small pot, 5 cuttings per pot with seed compost and wait for them to root over the next 3-4 weeks.

Dividing Perennials

This is probably the fastest method. To do this you will need some large perennials in your garden (or a friends garden). Basically we then dig the plant up, split it into as many as you can, depending on the plant you can get up to 100 small plants out of a big plant.

That’s the easiest way is to dig up your large perennial in February, then cut it up unto small pieces with a piece of the crown and a root attached. Pot this into a small pot and wait about a month for it to grow. It should be saleable with a flower in a matter of months.

Cover Letters:

This is what your cover letter should always include:

* Properly addressed with contact details clear;

* Banner headline in bold typeface identifies the Job title, reference number and publication;

Some companies may be advertising several positions in different papers so this leaves no doubt;

* Avoid starting each sentence with “I” (causes I-strain if overdone!!)

Teacher Cover Letters: A Powerful Teacher Cover Letter Secret

When searching for a teaching job it goes without saying that a
powerful, well-written, teacher cover letter is a critical piece
in the process.

I have written several articles on the topic of teacher cover
letters and how to make your teacher cover letter stand out.

However, this article is NOT about how to write a teacher cover
letter, but rather what to do once your teacher cover letter is
written.

I know what you're thinking... "What to do with it? Just send
it in with your resume."

Well, if that's all you're going to do, you are certainly
not going to stand out above the competition...which can be very
tough when it comes to getting a teaching job.

So, what should you do with your teacher cover letter?

Well, first of all, you are not just going to send in your
teacher cover letter and teacher resume. Instead, you should
walk in your teacher cover letter/teacher resume.

That's right...you are going to hand-deliver your cover letter
and resume. Doing so will put a face to the name and will most
definitely make you stand out from all of those other applicants
who only sent theirs in.

However, more important than "standing out" is the fact that an
administrator may actually give you an interview on the spot!

The second thing you're going to do is write three versions of
your teacher cover letter.

That's right...3 versions. You need to stop thinking of your
teacher cover letter as just one individual letter and more as a
series of three letters.

The first letter is the traditional teacher cover letter. The
one we just discussed that you both send in AND hand-deliver
that are both accompanied by your resume.

It's the second and third cover letter, however, that are
going to really separate yourself from the crowd.

Remember, the old Head & Shoulders commercial slogan? "You only
get one chance to make a first impression."

Well...maybe that's not entirely true. Maybe you get two
chances...

Your second cover letter is known as a "follow-up teacher cover
letter". This cover letter comes AFTER you have landed the
interview, but BEFORE the actual interview takes place. In
those few days in between is when you send out your "follow-up
teacher cover letter".

This cover letter is similar to your original cover letter with
some minor changes. Your follow-up teacher cover letter is
slightly less formal. It is somewhat of a cross between a
cover letter and a thank you note.

Start the letter off with a thank you for the upcoming interview
at [insert date and time]. Make sure you include the date and
time. This will make you stand out even more...*they* will be
looking forward to *your* interview!

Once you have thanked the appropriate person, highlight the key
points you made in your original teacher cover letter.

The third in the series of teacher cover letters is the
"post-interview teacher cover letter".

This third "cover letter" is much less formal and is leaning
more towards a thank you note than a cover letter. In fact,
this third letter should actually be presented as a
"hand-written" note on nice, professionally monogrammed
stationary.

You give this third letter to each and every person that sat on
the interview committee. Address each by name and keep it
short. Start by thanking the person for their time AND make
sure to add something specific from your interview...this will
again, make YOUR interview stand out. Next, wrap up that letter
with something specific about their school and your passion to
teach there.

But wait! You're not done!

Make sure you...Don't Give Up!

If your "post-interview teacher cover letter" doesn't get you
a phone call within a couple of days, then follow-up with an
email...

If that doesn't work, then follow-up again with a phone call.

Persistence can pay off big time and can be the difference
between getting a teaching job or being back to looking for more
teacher interviews.

This teacher cover letter process is extremely powerful and will
put you light years ahead of the competition.

Here are the steps once again:

1. Original Teacher Cover Letter ~ mail AND hand-deliver along
with teacher resume.

2. Follow-Up Teacher Cover Letter ~ mail AFTER you get the
interview, but BEFORE the interview takes place

3. Post-Interview Teacher Cover Letter ~ hand-written thank you,
follow-up email, follow-up phone call

Plain and simple...you greatly increase your chances of getting
a teaching job when you use this approach to writing your
teacher cover letter.

A well developed resume will get you an interview, but a successful interview is the key to getting the job. Prior to the interview your research should include what you should do for your interview, but has it ever occurred to you to look for what you should NOT do during your interview? I bet it has not!

The most deadly things you need to be aware of that you should absolutely NOT do when going into an interview are as followed:

1. Incorrect Attire
Dress more conservatively than you would usually dress on an average day. You do not want to show up to the interview in a pair of jeans, t-shirt, and tennis shoes. In order to make the best impression on your interviewers and leave a lasting impression on them you should follow these guidelines:

- Brushing teeth and arriving with fresh breath/ good hygiene
- Neatly arranged hairstyle
- Clean and conventional dress shoes
- Small amount/not gaudy jewelry
- Cleaned and neat fingernails
- Appropriate amount of cologne or perfume
- Do not have gum, candy, or other matter in your mouth
- No obvious body piercings other than single ear piercings for women
- No visible tattoos

Specific items for women include:

Tailored skirt or pant suit in matching neutral colors. Length of skirt should be no shorter than the knee. Underneath suit jacket should be a tailored blouse showing no cleavage.

- Matching accessories
- No clubbing wear
- No outrageous makeup
- No torn tights or nylons

Specific items for men include:

Matching pant suit in neutral colors. That said, no crazy or wild patterns or colors.

- Wear a quality silk tie that compliments your suit.
- Shirt should be long sleeved ALWAYS, in white, light blue, or conservative striped pattern.
- Facial hair neatly trimmed
- Recommended no jewelry what so ever
- Shoes and belt must match.

2. Unprepared Answers

The most common interview questions are very well known, so make sure you have the answers well prepared. Going into an interview unprepared can be a death wish! Make sure you have accurately prepared and unrehearsed can cause you to lose that great job opportunity. Here is an example of how to be prepared with an impressive answer:

“Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What are your goals?” What not to do- Never imply anything along the lines of ending your employment with the company you are interviewing with or moving on to bigger and better things in the near future. How to answer- If asked where you see yourself in a certain number of years, tell the interviewer that you have a long-term commitment to the job in which you are applying and that you will grow as the position does.

3. Unprepared Questions

As important as it is to have answers to questions prepared, it is equally important to have questions prepared to ask your interviewer because it will make you look more professional and well prepared. Some interview questions you can have in mind to ask are:

- Is there anything about the company you like to see improved?
- When do you expect to make your hiring decision?
- When do you think I can expect to hear back from you?

Having these questions in mind can give you the edge against all other interviewees the company will see.

4. Forgetting to do your Research

One of the worst things you can do is go into an interview knowing absolutely nothing about the company you are applying with. Prior to the interview, it is vital to know and learn as much as you can possibly lean about the company. Some research you should do includes:

Preliminary company information:

- If the company you are applying with has a parent corporation
- What the position you are applying for entails

Get the inside information to impress your interviewer with all of the knowledge you will know during your interview!

5. Not Watching What You Say

Everyone makes mistakes, but it is extremely important to avoid every mistake you can! Some things you may say might offend someone and blow your chances at getting that job. Make sure to carefully watch what you say, and think about what you want to say before you say it. Some things to avoid saying in your interview include:

- Asking about their pay or how much they make
- Questioning their authority
- Attacking/speaking against personal beliefs

Avoiding these types of statements or questions can save yourself the pain of hearing that you did not get the interview, and keep you in the race for the job!

6. Ringing of Cell Phones

Probably the worst mistake you can make in an interview and the by far EASIEST one to avoid is having your cell phone ring during your interview! Having your cell phone go off during your interview is a slap in the face to your potential employer, showing them that you care more about your personal calls than their company. If your phone rings during the interview you can pretty much kiss your job good-bye, here are some solution ideas to avoid this incident:

- Turn off your cell phone
- Silence your phone as soon as you pull into the parking lot
- Set an alarm so you remember to turn off/silence your phone

By just following these simple and common sense guidelines to avoid your phone going off can save you tons of embarrassment and better yet your job!

7. Checking the Time

Yes, the exact time of the day may be important to you so you can make your next task of the day on time, but to your interviewer it looks like they are wasting your time. If you check the time frequently during your interview, you will be sending a very negative vibe toward your employer and they will not hire you and waste your time.

Avoid this misunderstanding by
(1) planning enough time in your day to allow more than enough time for your interview,

(2) if you plan anything else during that day be sure whoever is involved in your plans knows you have an important interview to attend, and

(3) don’t wear a watch to avoid any temptation to look at the time!

8. Asking About Salary Too Early

We all know that money is very important to keep our lives going especially with this economy, but one of the WORST things you can do in an interview is ask about the salary you will be making. If you ask about your salary you will be showing the interviewer that you only care about the money you will be making and not about the position or the company itself.

You will find out soon enough what your salary will be, all you need to do is show patience and wait for the call that will say that “You’re hired!” and the answer about salary will follow!

9. Telling About Other Job Offers

Getting offered a job or even multiple jobs is very exciting, but what do you do if you have another interview coming up? Well, you do NOT tell that company about your previous offers! You do not want that company to feel like you are disposable. For example, if you express that other companies have offered you a position versus a person who is desperately looking for a job and that company is their only hope, they will choose the other person who really needs the job.

Be smart, do not give the company an easy reason to dismiss you early and possibly lose your chances at a better job, higher pay, and a more successful life where you can advance in the position! Keep those other job opportunities you have received to yourself!

10. Tardiness Or Being Late

The most embarrassing thing you can possibly do for an interview is be late! Being late on your first day is bad enough, but just imagine being late for your interview, and say good bye to that job opportunity. Yes, it is very easy to get stuck in traffic, by a train, or even an unfortunate accident, but the company will see this as an excuse for your tardiness not a reason!

Easy tips to eliminate all chances of being late by: - Leaving 15 minutes before you would normally plan to leave (Showing up early looks AWESOME)

- Plan alternate routes to take in case the unexpected occurs
- Set an alarm to make sure you wake up on time and leave when planned

Another helpful hint is IF you should happen to be running late (which there should be no reason for you to be) make sure you give the company a call, explain the situation briefly, express your empathy and gratitude, and assure them you will be there in a timely fashion!

Proofread Your Work
1. Proofread the content for grammar and spelling mistakes. This is the most critical step in the resume review process. It is often hard to spot your own composition errors after you've spent hours writing and re-writing parts of your resume.

There are two ways to catch these potential damaging errors: ask someone else to proof your resume, or give yourself some time between writing and reviewing your resume.

If you ask a friend or a family member for help in reviewing your resume, make sure that their spelling and grammar and is to the task; they should be able to review and if necessary edit your resume for content and consistency in style.

Asking others to review your resume, however, should be done with some caution. You know what you are trying to achieve in terms of the content and the value of that content to the employer, others don't have that same knowledge so may unwittingly change the message you are trying to create.

Even after you have asked someone else to review your resume, try stepping away from it for a day or two if you have time. Coming back to it for a final review later gives you some break from the content, and will allow you to recheck it for grammar and spelling errors with fresh eyes. Watch out for wrong words spelt correctly such as 'right' and 'write' as your spell-checker won't pick this up; only human eyes will.

Print & Check That It Looks Right
2. Print out and email your resume so that you know what your potential employer will receive after you submit your resume. Make sure to print your resume from the same file that you are emailing to your employer.

Make sure that the margins are set properly and are not cutting off any content.

Look for spaces, and adjust the text in case of any large gaps on the paper. E-mail your resume to a number of your friends; have them open the file and let you know how it appears on their screen, as well as how it prints out. This gives you the chance to address any formatting issues before your resume reaches the employer thus developing a winning final resume.

Does It Match The Job Demands?
3. Compare your resume carefully against the job requirements, and make sure that all requirements are addressed in either your resume or your cover letter.

Essentially, review what the employer is looking for and make sure that your resume meets all of their needs.

When your potential employer receives your resume, they will look for key terms from their job description in order to match your qualifications to their available position.

If possible, try to use some of the same terminology on your resume as the employer used on the job description or in the advertisement. This will let the employer know that you understand their needs, and make them more interested in you as the ideal candidate for the job. If they are willing, ask one of your friends to review the job description and your resume as well, and give you their impression on how well the two match. Special TV Show Cover Letter

This special cover letter was written for a client of mine which she bought as part of her standard CV Writing package, including a bespoke cover letter.

You'll soon see that it's rather different from the usual job application letter because it was written specially for a very different application altogether. The position being applied for is on the British television show "The Apprentice" hosted by Sir Alan Sugar, where a number of hopefuls compete to carry out business related tasks with the eventual winner becoming Sir Alan's apprentice.
