Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

Finally had a chance to play Enslaved : Odyssey to the West, brought to you by the fine folks at Ninja Theory, aka the guys who made that bad God of War clone Heavenly Sword. My impression on this game are based solely on the available demo on the Xbox Live and Playstation Network, that said if your demo can't impress, I really don't see the point in dropping sixty dollars on a game. That's one thing I wish reviews who state, but then again most reviewers are given a free copy of the game to play so they don't understand how much sixty dollars is to the average consumer working minimum wage.

The demo starts with the main character Monkey who must race (while chasing after an incredible rude girl Trip) across a mysterious ship towards an escape pod before the ship blows up. As Monkey travels down very similar looking hallways the general control are given out slowly, there's probably two or three screen teaching you how to jump, follow that up with three screens of combats training and by the time the actual game starts I was so excited.

It's too bad that the actual game is still boring, your literally fighting on the wing of the ship yet unable to knock enemies off the wing, nor does wind effect your jumping at all. More so it appears that you can't actually fail from jumping, the game literally won't let you fail from jumping. I understand that at times the need for an on-rails platformer but even still without any chance of failure why bother with the game play?

As for the actual combat, it feels like an incredibly unpolished Dynasty Warrior game. Each swing of the Bo-staff doesn't feel to have any sort of weight behind it and more times then not I feel like I'm just going with the same button combination to take down my foes.

The game is also drawing rave reviews from critics over the fantastic voice acting and storyline, game is loosely based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West. In charge of the actual story and the lead voice is Andy Serkis who most everyone in the world knows as Golem from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, I never bought into the little story I was given nor did I want to learn more about Monkey and his annoying love interest trip.

I'd say get the Demo at best, the only real thing holding me back from saying skip it is that apparently there's lots of cool features using Trip as a partner yet the demo doesn't offer any chance of seeing that in action. If you have any joy in the demo give it a rent, I'm sure with the holiday season coming soon this game will be down to 40 dollars sooner or later.

Okay so these morons decided to be awesome and block the 101 freeway during rush hour so they could play their hit single Traffic Jam 101. The Driver of the truck took the Keys out of the ignition and took off in another vehicle, meanwhile these hardcore dudes continued to play their awesome song. I hope they have a wonderful night in jail.

The Event

My impression (I shy away from the word review since I'm not looking at the whole season) on the first four episodes of NBC's The Event. Spoilers ahead.

This is another show that's trying to cash in on absence of LOST, with so many failures already off the air Flash Forward, V, Surface, and Heroes can The Event be the show that fills the gaping hole left by the LOST.

Much like Flash Forward the lead the in The Event Jason Ritter doesn't have that same level of charisma that Matthew Fox brought to LOST, I still don't have any sort of care for this character nor am I engrossed in his drama to save his girlfriend. Yes this preview will draw comparisons to LOST, but it's only fair considering the show is trying so hard to be the new LOST.

I don't know if I've grown more impatient or if this show is just moving so slow, I feel that often times events in the show should be moving faster then they really are, could be that I'm burnt out from LOST's awful finale.

Any who with The Event implementing the same flash back sequences to fill in what the characters were doing before the Event begins. Most of the time these flash back could concur naturally and the character could reveal this by their actions and feelings instead of having to club me over the head with Jason Ritter undying love for his girlfriend that he REALLY want to propose to. Oh I thought I get this out of the way The Event is that humanoid aliens who look like us, talk like us, but age extremely slow tried to kill the President by flying a plane into him.

That was three episodes ago and since then nothing has happen at all. The President (Blair Underwood) has talk to the capture alien leader (Laura Innes) several times in his most stern voice and quite frankly I don't buy it all. If the US President was attacked in this manner all hell would break loose, but still even with the President and his family completely locked down, the aliens manage to get a cell phone to the President's son....I really just don't buy this show.

I think it's safe to say that I won't be watching anymore of The Event, perhaps I'll be wrong and find out that this show is so great and that I'll have to watch down the line, but as for now I've got way too much going on to be keeping up with this show.

Verdict: Skip The Event.

As of late I've been posting lots of funny/bizarre items that I find across the internet, hopefully now with the fall season back and having the chance to see a lot of good films I'll be able to write some actual content, schedule for the next week or so. So the plan would be to talk about the new Video Game demos: Vanquish, Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2, and Castlevania, TV shows: Chuck, The Event, Sons of Anarchy, South Park, The Office, Outsourced, Community, Fringe, It's Always Sunny, The League, and Boardwalk Empire. On the Movie side: The Social Network, Let Me In, Catfish, The Town, and I attempt to defend why I think How To Train Your Dragon is the best film that I've seen thus far...I will probably get around to posting my thoughts on The Event later today.
