"When Life Gets Broken" debuts at #19 on R&R!

We're very excited today because "When Life Gets Broken" from Russ Lee & Michael O'Brien has made its debut at #19 on this week's Radio & Records Soft AC/Inspirational chart. The song also ties with Wayburn Dean for MOST ADDS this week and has MOST INCREASED SPINS with a +34! The song has already climbed to #11 on the CRW Inspirational chart.

Though we're very excited about the breakthrough on R&R, we're most excited about what these numbers represent. Millions of listeners across the country are now being impacted by the hope this song brings as we look to the author of our hope, Jesus Christ.

"When Life Gets Broken" is the title track of a new project that has been the vision of Matt Hybarger, Senior Pastor of Trinity Community Church in Beford, Texas (a suburb of Dallas/Ft. Worth). Gospel Music Week '09

We had a great time in Nashville this week during Gospel Music Week. You can check out photos above. Click on the slide show to see larger photos. We were primarily at GMA Week this year with Virginia Hill. She started off the week Saturday evening (4/18) with her band as a featured artist at the Indie Extreme showcase. Among the 4 songs she performed was her current single "I Am Here" that is making a strong breakthrough with new adds coming from KAMB, KCBI and the CDR Network. During the week, we were also able to meet with Eric Johnson from CDR, Jim Stanley and Rick Robertson from American Family Radio and Faron Eckelbarger from KNLB.

On Monday of GMA Week, Eric Johnson and Jim Stanley and his wife joined me for a special Matinee Showcase presented by Nason Music Group, Creative Soul Records and Embassy Music. Artists featured during the showcase included Nathan Clark George, Frances Drost and Jennifer Shaw.

We now have a new Media Center as the heart of our media page. Here, you'll find all of the media elements from our current singles. We'll be adding older media elements as well as new videos, audio segments and photos as we make them available to you.

This new Media Center allows you to search our media database for just what you're looking for. You can also filter the media database by date, artist, type of media and more. Brian Bates releases first video!

This Friday, we will be going for adds on the wonderful new single from Brian Bates entitled "You Danced." It's now available for download on Play MPE. This song means a lot to Brian and because of that, he decided it was time to record his first music video. The result is fantastic! It's fun but also highlights the timely message of this song. Virginia Hill continues radio promotions tour

For Virginia Hill, music and ministry is all about relationship. It starts with her relationship with the Lord and continues as she builds relationship with radio programmers across the country. That's why she has hit the road and is visiting key programmers across the country.

This past Friday, Virginia traveled north from her home near Chicago to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, home of WNLI and Suzanne Happs (pictured with Virginia). WNLI is a sister station to Inspirational reporter KLMP in Rapid City, South Dakota. Suzanne programs music for both stations and is also the morning host on WNLI.

"I Am Here" from Virginia Hill continues to touch more lives as new stations share this wonderful song of praise with their listeners. That helps open the door for Virginia to build relationship with listeners and the goal of eventually coming into each market to minister in concert.

Ginger Millermon partners with reporter KTIG

Last week, Ginger Millermon traveled to Minnesota to minister in concert in partnership with Inspirational / Soft AC reporter KTIG. After the Wednesday night concert, Ginger stopped by the station Thursday morning and joined Program Director Phil Kvamme on the morning show.

Pictured in the KTIG studio are (l-r) Chuck Heuberger (Music Director), Ginger and Phil. Based in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, KTIG is part of MCBI Radio and simulcasts on KCFB in St. Cloud.

Last weekend, Ginger also partnered with Praise & Worship station KBHW in International Falls for a concert event.

We're getting geared up this week for the release of Ginger's wonderful new single, "Unto the Least." On the heels of two Top 10 songs of praise, this song is a change of pace as it encourages and challenges listeners to reach out to our hurting world, whether they're across the ocean or across the street. "Unto the Least" is now available for download on Play MPE and goes for adds this Friday, March 13!

"Dependence" nominated for Dove Award

Congratulations to singer and songwriter Jamie Slocum. The final nominations for the 2009 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards was just released and "Dependence" from Jamie Slocum was nominated for Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year.

It's only fitting that this great song is nominated for a Dove Award after spending 11 consecutive weeks at #1 on the R&R Soft AC/Inspirational chart.

Meeting in Grand Rapids

One thing I love about living in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is that it's not unusual for artists we work with, even those who are far away, to make their way through our grand city once in a while. It is, however, a bit unusual to have two artists coming through town in the same day.

On Monday of this week (2/16), both Frances Drost (left) and Lisa Troyer (below) stopped in town for a visit.

Frances was wrapping up her involvement at a women's conference at Cornerstone University. My wife and I met with Frances at Arnie's, one of our favorite restaurants in town (highly recommended). By the way, Frances will be featured on this week's Creative Promotions Weekly Podcast which will be online Wednesday. Also, be watching for new Interview Segments that will be added to Frances' Current Singles page later this week. "Inside Things" is Frances Drost's current single that is now impacting Inspirational and Soft AC stations.

Monday evening, my wife, Debbie, and I met Lisa Troyer at Schuller's Books on the north side of town. Lisa had visited WGSL in Rockford, Illinois, earlier in the day and was on her way to Traverse City. On Tuesday she visited WLJN in Traverse City and WPHN/Northern Christian Radio in Gaylord.

The current single from Lisa Troyer & Circle of Friends is the wonderful worship song "Forever." It's going for immediate adds and impact!

Creative Promotions had several artists featured at this year's NRB Convention in Nashville and of course we had our video camera rolling.

Wayburn Dean and Mollye Rees were featured artists during the Monday Night of Music sponsored by Christian Music Broadcasters (CMB). Wayburn shared his #2 single "I Need a Savior" and premiered his new single "What Will Be Your Legacy." It will go for adds in early March.

Mollye Rees was joined by Jamie Slocum for Top 5 single "Different." Then Mollye stepped into the spotlight and premiered her new single "Morning Always Comes" which goes for adds on February 27.

Nathan Clark George gave us a chance to hear an unplugged version of his new single "What If I Were In the Garden." This video is from Monday night. Joining us in Nathan's suite was Faron and Debbie Eckelbarger (KNLB) and Doug Duran (WMVV).

Notes from NRB 2009

The National Religious Broadcasters Convention for 2009 is now a memory. It was great to see some old friends and a chance to meet several programmers face to face for the first time. Creative Promotions had three artists at NRB this year. Wayburn Dean and Mollye Rees were a part of the Monday Night of Music presented by Christian Music Broadcasters (CMB). The night wrapped up with a mini-concert by Mercy Me.

Singer and songwriter Nathan Clark George was also at this year's NRB. He presented a special "open house" in his suite in partnership with Creative Promotions, Christian Media Services and Franklin Springs Family Media. They recently released Nathan's new DVD. Programmers were able to meet Nathan and his family. He also shared an intimate live performance of his debut single "What If I Were In the Garden."

Wayburn Dean & Mollye Rees to perform at NRB Convention

I'm excited to announce that Wayburn Dean and Mollye Rees will be performing at the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Convention in Nashville. They will be part of the "Night of Music" sponsored by the Christian Music Broadcasters (CMB). The night of music will feature a great line-up of artists and culminate with a set by Mercy Me.

The Night of Music will take place in the Delta A at the Opreyland Hotel & Convention Center and will start with an artist "meet 'n greet" at 7:30. The concert will begin at 8:00pm.

Wayburn Dean will be sharing two songs including his recent #2 song "I Need a Savior." He'll also be premiering his next single which will be released in March.

Mollye Rees will be joined by Jamie Slocum and sing her Top 5 duet "Different." It will also be an exciting night as she premieres her incredible new single "Morning Always Comes" which will be going for national adds on Friday, February 13.

Congratulations to Jamie Slocum who stays at #1 for the tenth consecutive week on the R&R Soft AC/Inspirational chart with "My Dependence." I'm not sure what the record for consecutive weeks at #1 is, but I'm thinking Jamie may be closing in on it. "My Dependence" has also climbed to #1 on the CRW (Signature) Inspirational chart.

This was also an exciting week for Curt Collins who climbed into the Top 10 on the R&R Soft AC/Inspirational chart for the first time with his latest single "Jesus Paid It All." It jumped three spots on this week's chart, climbing to #10!

Brian Bates debuts at #20 on R&R

This is an exciting week for Brian Bates! His Christmas single, "Mary Christmas" became his first Top 20 single on the R&R Soft AC/Inspirational chart debuting at #20! Only a small handful of Christmas songs chart each year so this is a significant accomplishment for Brian.

Creative Promotions is launching a "keep playing Brian" campaign as we head into the new year! We are reminding stations that played "Mary Christmas" to keep sharing the music and ministry of Brian Bates with their listeners by adding (or continuing to play) "UNDER," the latest single from his Worlds Collide CD.

Jamie Slocum celebrates a unanimous #1 on R&R

"We felt like it had a chance to move to #1 but we didn't expect it to jump 5 spots to the top spot so soon," exclaims Jamie Slocum when I talked to him this week! His latest single "My Dependence" has climbed to #1 on the Radio & Records Soft AC/Inspirational chart! The song has only been on the chart for 7 weeks. Stations are getting very good response to "My Dependence" which gives it tremendous momentum heading into Christmas and then into the New Year.

One significant fact is that "My Dependence" is at #1 in BOTH Plays AND Audience which gives it the unanimous #1 spot for the week.

"It's great to have a song climb to #1 because it's a way to measure the impact of a song," shares Jamie. "But what I'm really excited about is how incredible the response has been from radio listeners. A great story behind a NEW Christmas classic

"Have Yourself a Blessed Little Christmas" is a featured song on Ginger Millermon's wonderful new Christmas project Beautiful Gift. Ginger shares the moving story behind this wonderful new classic:

"Have Yourself a Blessed Little Christmas" has a wonderful story of redemption behind it. In the 1940’s Hugh Martin co-wrote the original tune "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" for the movie Meet Me in St. Louis starring Judy Garland. Hugh had great success writing for Hollywood and Broadway, but something was missing in his life. He wasn’t happy. He eventually hit rock bottom after an addiction and a nervous breakdown. In his 60’s Hugh was in the hospital when his roommate shared his faith in Jesus Christ with Hugh. That day, Hugh gave his life to Jesus, and he was never the same. At 86 years old, Hugh Martin and his friend John Fricke wrote a new set of sacred lyrics for this wonderful old song.

The debut single from Beautiful Gift is "What Makes Christmas," co-written by Ginger and River's Paul Marino. You'll also want to check out "In the Bleak Midwinter" which features a duet with and the recording debut of Ginger's daughter, McKenzie.

Last week, Jamie Slocum and Mollye Rees stopped by American Family Radio in Tupelo, Mississippi for a visit. The trip came as both "My Dependence" from Jamie Slocum and "Different" from Mollye Rees & Jamie Slocum are spinning in heavy rotation on AFR.

I’ve shared this story with many of you but just in case you missed it I wanted to share it again! We hear a lot about research these days and it just doesn’t get much better than this. A couple of weeks ago SARAH SCHIEBER sang her new Christmas song “CHRISTMAS IN HEAVEN” for the first time. It was at a meeting of the Red Hat Society. These ladies love life and fun and the impact this song had on them was incredible. Because of some manufacturing issues, Sarah did not have CD singles of this song available for sale yet so she was only able to take pre-orders from these ladies at the event. Note that the ladies paid for the CD ($5 per CD which included shipping) on the spot. Sarah had...are you ready for this...263 orders for “CHRISTMAS IN HEAVEN.” That’s huge but even more impacting when I tell you that there were only 300 women there!!! That’s over 87% of the women who made a purchase.

So, listen to “CHRISTMAS IN HEAVEN” form SARAH SCHIEBER. Then, add this song to your CHRISTMAS CURRENT playlist on Nov. 28...or sooner! Ellyn Davey of Inspirational reporter WNFR shares, “I will guarantee calls to our studios asking about this one when I start to play it before Christmas. Jamie Slocum starts the climb to #1!

It's been an great week for Jamie Slocum and his latest single "My Dependence"! It climbs to #11 on this week's R&R Soft AC/Inspirational chart. It easily had the Most Adds for the week with 6 new reporters coming on board including Family Life Radio, KLMP, KLVV, KYCC, WNFR and WPHN/Northern Christian Radio.

"My Dependence" also had the Most Increased Spins with a whopping +80. The song with the second most increased spins was +26.

We are excited about the tremendous "My Dependence" is getting from programmers and listeners as well! Now let's work together to help make this incredible song from Jamie Slocum his latest #1 single.

Cookies, Christmas and Currents

It may only be October, but I know many programmers are beginning to seriously look at and listen to new music for the upcoming holiday season. We have some great Christmas music for you and your listeners this year including Christmas Songs from Fernando Ortega featuring the debut single "Bring a Torch."

Speaking of Christmas singles, here's a quick question. If you are an R&R Soft AC/Inspirational reporter, do you report your Christmas currents? I know many programmers will add in some Christmas songs to their regular current rotation in November and these are reported along with their other currents. But what do you do when you are primarily playing Christmas music? Are you one of the growing number of stations that will go to 100% Christmas music after Thanksgiving or in early December? Do you report the songs in your current Christmas rotation to R&R or just "freeze" your chart until the new year? I have found that many programmers simply freeze their chart of current singles and stop reporting to the charts until the new year. If that describes your approach to reporting during the holidays, let me encourage you to make a change this year and begin reporting the new Christmas singles you are playing.

The purpose of any chart is to reflect the airplay that its reporting stations are giving new music. I don't see why this should change at Christmas time. If you're playing new Christmas singles, like "Bring a Torch" from Fernando Ortega, it makes sense that you would report these singles until the chart stops taking reports for the year? And for the record, R&R will be taking your report all the way through December 15.

Each year there are great Christmas songs that get tons of airplay, but that airplay is not reflected on the national charts. Join me this year and make sure you report the new Christmas songs you are playing, like "Bring a Torch" from Fernando, to R&R's Soft AC/Inspirational chart!

Okay...so we've covered Christmas and currents. What about the cookies? Well I especially like those Santa cookies with the red sprinkles and the white icing for a beard. Or how about Gingerbread cookies? I love Gingerbread cookies with big globs of icing for buttons. Of course you can never go wrong with Chocolate Chip cookies...even at Christmas!

Curt Collins wraps up tour with KNLB Radio

"Jesus Paid It All" from Curt Collins is now making a strong impact on Christian radio across the country now impacting over 200 stations. Recently, Curt returned from an extensive tour with Inspirational/Soft AC reporter KNLB. It's a tour that almost didn't happen. Curt shares...

Just 2 weeks before I was to start an "amazing" tour through parts of AZ, NM and CA sponsored by Faron Eckelbarger with KNLB, Lake Havasu City, AZ, I had a pretty bad motorcycle wreck. I, along with my wife, was thrown off of my cruiser at about 30/mph after missing a curve. She suffered minor scrapes and bruised ribs. I was not as fortunate. Apparently I took off the windshield with my face and ended up loosing my 2 front teeth, having 20 stitches and breaking three toes. In one day I had a root canal and surgery on my foot. I have a cast on now and a 5 inch pin coming up through the bottom of my foot. Fun, huh? I will get my 2nd cast off in 2 weeks. I can vividly remember the pain of having to get shots in my upper lip so they could sew me up while in the emergency room. That was painful. All I could do was sing Jesus Paid it All! That might sound funny but it's what I did. I hate pain, but I knew that since Christ died on the cross for me I could take a little pain. After having 2 root canals and foot surgery I went back to the doctor for a follow up. He amazingly said that I could go on the trip. He was hesitant but said because I had such little swelling and the surgery looked good, he'd would put my foot in a cast and I could be on my way. God is Good. I ask God for a big favor to not give me any pain after the surgery. You know what? For the whole 2 week tour I had little or no pain from my foot. My mouth was a little more uncomfortable but the pain was very minor.

Regarding the tour it was fabulous. We flew to the first three dates in NM and then drove the rest of the tour. We got to touch the lives of thousands of people and found out that Christian radio, specifically KNLB was really impacting their lives. That was a good thing for Faron and Debbie his wife to hear, who has a show for children called "Treehouse One." There were tons of children and their smiles and hugs made all those long miles worth it. At every stop we were greeted with hugs. It was great to talk to new friends and it was so cool hearing their comments and life stories and how my music had ministered to them. That gave me chills. If it's not about ministry, it's not for me. One woman shared with me as she was shaking and crying that she had just become a Christian. She was 51. She shared how God had changed her so much. I told her that's God's promise; 2nd Corinthians 5:17 (NIV) What a smile she had. She was "glowing" from head to toe as she shared her testimony with me about her conversion to Christianity. She said how much my music touched her during the concert. That made the evening a success. If my music and message touches just one heart, then my job has been done. There were so many stories that I can't begin to share all of them. God truly was with us and moved greatly throughout our tour. This tour was a great way for Faron to share his story and ministry and let him know that people are listening. He is truly making a way in the desert! I think all programmers could learn something by doing this and would recommend them giving it a try!

Chris Sorensen of Evensong Rising featured on "Breadcast"

Check out the September "Breadcast" Podcast from Bread For the World which features an interview with Chris Sorensen of the worship band Evensong Rising. When you listen to the "Breadcast" Podcast, you'll have a chance to get to know more about this very special band as well as their connection with Bread For the World. Evensong Rising recently became partners with Bread for the World, an advocacy organization active in the fight against world hunger.

Bread For the World works on a broad scale by organizing and uniting Christians to rise with one voice to influence our nation's decision makers, urging them to end hunger at home and abroad. They were also instrumental in the Jubilee campaign for debt cancellation in developing countries.

And they don't seek out partnerships with artists, something they told Evensong Rising's lead vocalist Chris Sorenson when he first approached them about working together.

That's not to say they don't ever partner with musicians. Bread for the World was a founding partner in Bono's ONE Campaign.

Once Chris explained that the band didn't want anything in return, and shared their hearts for humanitarian activism, a partnership began to take form.

In their work on behalf of Bread for the World, Evensong Rising will be encouraging audiences to participate in Bread for the World's annual Offering of Letters, where church members across the country write personal letters and emails to members of Congress on issues affecting hungry and poor people.
