• Jason Alexander has booked a killer (ha!) guest stint on CBS’ Criminal Minds. “It’s a really crazy role,” says executive producer Ed Bernero. “He's going to come in and turn himself in, but we have no idea who his victims are. So we have to reverse profile.” The episode’s slated to kick off November sweeps.

• James Streisand Brolin is headed to Law & Order: SVU, where he’ll play an ex-military man with a connection to Chris Meloni’s Stabler in the show’s season premiere. The episode will also feature Chris Elliott as a stalkerish-looking dude who’s accused of being — OMFG! — a stalker.

• Justine Bateman, who’s turning into quite the serial guest star of late (see also Men in Trees, Desperate Housewives, etc), is adding an episode of Psych to her ever-expanding resume. She’ll play Victoria, the long-discussed-but-never-seen estranged wife of Det. Lassiter (Timothy Omundson). Psych kicks off its third season on July 18. But you already knew that.

• Prison Break is adding a new branch to Jodi Lyn O’Keefe’s family tree this season. Producers are looking for an actress to play Gretchen’s sister, a run-of-the-mill suburban mom who’s less than thrilled to get a visit from her sis. And I’d be heading into serious spoiler territory if I told you why that is. So I won’t.

With CSI spun out to within an inch of its life, what's CBS to do? Find another established hit to exploit, natch! Yes, Criminal Minds, I'm talking about you.

Executive producer Ed Bernero confirms to me exclusively that "substantive" discussions are currently taking place between CBS and producer ABC Studios to expand the Minds franchise with an offshoot. "It's safe to say there will be something soon," he reveals. "We had talked about it from the beginning, but something always got in the way of it happening… like Mandy [Patinkin] leaving and the strike. But it's definitely gaining momentum now."

A consensus on what an alternate Minds would look like has not yet been reached, but Bernero says they're "looking at all of the things the FBI does and how we can work that into the Criminal Minds world." The idea would likely be introduced during a special episode of Minds to air later this coming season.

The big question, of course, is whether one of the show's current cast will be poached to headline the new series. "I don't think so," Bernero says. "We're very happy with the team we have. On the other hand, it's possible characters could be on both shows… All options are open."

Well, except for the one labeled "Mandy Patinkin." That one I'm pretty sure is closed.

CBS Announce Fall Dates

CBS announced its fall launch dates, including an early premiere for the 17th edition of "Survivor."

"Survivor: Gabon" -- the series' first cycle to be shot in high definition -- will debut Thursday, Sept. 18. This is the seventh year that CBS has rolled out "Survivor" a week before the rest of its shows.

The bulk of CBS' schedule will debut during the traditional September premiere week, or just after. The show times are unchanged from the schedule CBS unveiled during its upfront presentation in May.

The network's Monday comedies, including the series debut of "Worst Week," will return Sept. 22, along with "CSI: Miami."

"NCIS," freshman drama "The Mentalist" and "Without a Trace" (on its new night) will premiere Sept. 23.

The network's new Wednesday night comedy hour including "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Project Gary" premieres Sept. 24, as well as "Criminal Minds" and "CSI: NY."

CBS' Friday block of "Ghost Whisperer," new drama "The Ex List" and "Numb3rs" debuts Oct. 3.

Thursday night crime dramas "CSI" and freshman series "Eleventh Hour" premiere Oct. 9.

Ausiello: I'm guessing not. When asked who got blown up in the episodes final seconds, exec producer Ed Bernero said in this week's issue of TV Guide, "The person who's injured is the right person to have been injured, and it will all make sense when you see the rest of this story." Notice how he said injured and not killed? Notice also how I repurposed a fairly innocuous quote from the magazine to distract you from the fact that I really don't have an answer to your question? I'm sneaky like that.

The team convinces her to testify against him when they point out how he has been tying her in to each murder he commits.
