Back from the Bayerischer Wald (Bavaria - Germany) I brought home with me a lot of emotions, memories and a few good shots.I'll try to summarize briefly below, my journey.I leaved Vicenza (November 30, 2011) with some friends and we reach Munchen after about 5 hours (stops included).You have to pay 8 euros to go through the motorway in Austria.
The city of Monaco amazed me for the order and flow of the very limited city traffic. It's really little caotic.
A city that struck me from this point of view.I stopped and stayed in the city center to lunch with Bavarian sausages and sauerkraut and a brief visit to Marienplatz, then I've continued my journey to Neuschonau, my destination.The highway from Monaco in Deggendorf Germany is rather monotonous, but then, once in the direction of Grafenau, landscapes become increasingly interesting as you get closer to the Bavarian Forest (in my case even thanks to the complicity of the magnificent autumnal colors ).You can reach Neuschonau from Monaco in about 2 hours and fifteen minutes (including a stop).

Tornato dalla Bayerischer Wald (Baviera - Germania) ho portato a casa con me molte emozioni, ricordi ed alcuni buoni scatti.
Cercherò di riassumere brevemente, qui di seguito, il mio viaggio.
Partito il 30 Novembre 2011 da Vicenza con alcuni amici ho raggiunto Monaco di Baviera dopo circa 5 ore soste comprese.
Si deve pagare una vignetta di 8 euro per la tratta autostradale austriaca.
La città di Monaco mi ha stupito per il suo ordine. Non pareva quasi di essere in una città. Il traffico era relativamente limitato e veramente poco caotico.
Una città che mi ha colpito anche da questo punto di vista insomma.
Ho sostato in centro per il pranzo a base di wurstel bavaresi e crauti e per una breve visita a Marienplatz, per poi proseguire con il viaggio alla volta di Neuschonau, nostra meta finale.
L'autostrada tedesca da Monaco a Deggendorf è piuttosto monotona ma poi, una volta in direzione di Grafenau i paesaggi cominciano a diventare via via più interessanti, man mano che ci si avvicina alla Selva Bavarese (nel mio caso complici anche i magnifici colori dell'autunno).
Da Monaco si raggiunge Neuschonau in circa 2 ore e un quarto (compresa una sosta).

Neuschonau is a small village in Bavaria with the residential center located a few hundred meters from the Tier-Freigelände I, a footpath loop of about 8 km which is the larger of the two zoos in the Bayerischer Wald, the the first German national park (opened in 1970).
I stayed at the Landgasthof Euler, a family-operated inn in the Bavarian style.
The innkeepers are nice and helpful, they speak German and English and the food is really good.
The prices are really affordable too.
In short, as a base for excursions in the parks, I wanna recommend it.

Neuschonau è un piccolo paesino bavarese il cui centro abitativo è situato a poche centinaia di metri dall'ingresso del Tier-Freigelände I, che con i suoi circa 8 km di percorso ad anello rappresenta il più grande dei due parchi faunistici della Bayerischer Wald, il primo parco nazionale tedesco (inaugurato nel 1970)
Io assieme ai miei amici ho alloggiato al Landgasthof Euler, una locanda a conduzione familiare in stile bavarese.
I gestori sono gentili e disponibili, parlano tedesco ed inglese e la cucina è davvero ottima.
Anche i prezzi sono davvero convenienti.
Insomma come base per le escursioni nei parchi non posso che consigliarvelo.

The Bayerischer Wald, with its 240 square kilometers of extension, is the largest German forest and, together with its continuation in the Czech Republic, called Šumava Park, is the largest forest area in Europe.

La Bayerischer Wald, con i suoi 240 kmq di estensione, è la più grande foresta tedesca e, assieme alla sua prosecuzione in territorio ceco, che prende il dome di Parco di Šumava, costituisce la più vasta superficie forestale d'Europa.

Tier-Freigelände I

The path of the Tier Freigelände I is pretty easy and accessible. With a lot of photo gear in the backpack is a little hard after a long day but the beauty of the place is worth it.
Some of the animals that you can see in this park are the following:

Il percorso del Tier-Freigelände I è piuttosto facile ed accessibile. Con molta attrezzatura fotografica nello zaino si fatica un po a fine giornata ma la bellezza del posto vale la pena.
Tra gli animali che popolano il parco in stato di libertà controllata figurano i seguenti:

Boar: it's the only animals that you can see without fences 'cos the footpath crosses its enclosure. I've photographed the boars a few minutes after a worker had brought them their food, so they were quite active and lively.

Cinghiale: unici animali del parco dei quali si attraversa a piedi il recinto e che ho fotografato pochi minuti dopo che un addetto aveva portato loro il cibo, motivo per il quale erano piuttosto attivi e vivaci.

Deer: Their enclosure is very large and unfortunately I have seen them from far away while they were eating at their shelter

Cervo: il loro recinto è molto ampio e purtroppo li ho visti solo da lontano, intenti a rifocillarsi alla mangiatoia

Otter: they are in an enclosure with a pair of large pools of water and it's possible to observe these animals from under the surface of the pond through an underground tunnel with portholes.

Lontra: si trovano in un recinto con un paio di ampie pozze d'acqua. E' possibile osservare gli animaletti anche da sotto la superficie dello stagno grazie ad un tunnel sotterraneo con degli oblò.

Lynx: a spectacular animal for its elegance. The one I have observed in the first park rested on a rock covered with moss and then jump down and disappear after a few minutes of awakening.

Lince: animale spettacolare per la sua eleganza. L'esemplare che ho potuto osservare nel primo parco riposava sopra una roccia ricoperta di muschio per poi balzare giù e sparire dopo qualche minuto di risveglio.

Wolf: the animal most exciting of the park in my opinion. I could count about ten of them in the Tier Freigelände I moving solitary or in packs inside the large enclosure, appearing among the vegetation.

Lupo: l'animale più emozionante del parco a mio avviso. Ho potuto contare una circa una di esemplari nel Tier-Freigelände I che si muovevano solitari o in branco all'interno dell'ampio recinto apparendo qua e la tra la vegetazione.

Bear: When we visited the reserve two bears were sleeping at the opposite point of view of the fence and we could see only certain parts of the body protruding behind some boulders. Unfortunately no photographs in this case so.

Orso: quando abbiamo visitato la riserva due orsi stavano dormendo nell'estremità opposta al punto di osservazione del recinto e si intravedevano solamente alcune parti del corpo sporgere dietro ad alcuni massi. Niente foto in questo caso purtroppo quindi.

The only drawback of the park (both first and second ones anyway) are the aviaries. These are too small for very large wingspan birds as owls and hawks.

Unico neo del parco (sia del primo che del secondo comunque) sono le voliere. Troppo piccole per animali con un'apertura alare davvero notevole come gufi, civette e falchi e perciò non mi son piaciute.

Tier-Freigelände II

The second path within the park is small compared to the first (the ring is about 2 km) and it can be visited easily in half a day.
It's located near Ludwigsthal, about fifty km from Neuschonau, our point of accommodation.
At the beginning of the path there's an interesting prehistoric cave with beautiful cave paintings.
Among the animals you can see:

Il secondo percorso all'interno del parco è di dimensioni ridotte rispetto al primo (l'anello è all'incirca lungo 2 km) e si visita agevolmente in mezza giornata.
E' situato nei pressi di Ludwigsthal, ad una cinquantina di km da Neuschonau, nostro punto di alloggio.
Carina la grotta preistorica con delle belle pitture rupestri che si trova ad inizio percorso.

Wolf: in this case I had to wait for the wolves finished their nap to take pictures of their activities.
There was a omega-male with a showy bite on the back.
The vast enclosure of this area is very beautiful.

Lupo: in questo caso ho dovuto attendere che i lupi terminassero il loro riposino prima di poter scattare qualche foto della loro attività.
Si poteva notare un maschio omega con un vistoso morso sul dorso.
Molto belli in questa area il vasto recinto e le strutture di osservazione.

Lynx: lynx when we visited the second largest park was dozing beneath a fallen log and it never move from there unfortunately.

Lince: la lince quando abbiamo visitato il secondo parco stava sonnecchiando sotto ad un tronco caduto e non si è mai smossa da li purtroppo.

Landscapes

In addition to the beautiful specimens of fauna that we have observed I've to mention also the magnificent scenery and views offered by the Bavarian forest.
The autumn colors have given me some beautiful pictures and the rustle of the leaves, the colors ranging from the red of some trees to the bright green of the moss on tree trunks in this humid forest give to the walks a great atmosphere.

Paesaggi

Oltre ai bellissimi esemplari della fauna che abbiamo potuto osservare vale la pena citare i magnifici paesaggi e scorci offerti dalla selva bavarese.

I colori autunnali mi hanno regalato delle belle immagini e il fruscio delle foglie, i colori che variavano dal rosso fuoco di alcuni alberi al verde acceso del muschio presente sui tronchi dell'umidissima foresta rendevano le passeggiate ricche di atmosfera.

Review: Sigma 30 f/1.4 EX DC

I've used the Sigma 30 f/1.4 for some years and I finally sold it 'cos I'd like to change my aps-c (Canon EOS 40D) with a full frame camera (Canon EOS 1Ds) and the Sigma 30 f/1.4 fits only the aps-c cameras.
I love very much this lens.
It's soft at f/1.4 (but this is also a pro if maybe you're looking for portrait photography) and from f/1.8 it becomes very usable.
It's very light,compact and its focal lenght is equal to a standard lens in 35mm sensor and so I normally took it always mounted on my camera (I loves fixed focal lens...).
The photographic results are very good, the quality good enough and the costruction are ok (it's a lens of Sigma high level EX series).
I've often used it also in really poor light situations and it is very interesting from this point of view 'cos the wide aperture of f/1.4 allows to take pictures in a quite dark ambientation, without a flash (I don't like to use a flashlight if I can) and also with good results.
The autofocus motor is not to much fast and it's a bit loudly.
The Sigma 30 f/1.4 EX DC is a good lens, with an accessible price and with a very good quality (personally I think it's comparable with the Canon EF 50 f/1.4 lens ) and with a wide aperture that allows to shoot in a various range of situations.
Teh focal lenght of 30mm makes this Sigma lens a good lens for street photograhy, an interesting full figure portrait lens and a quite usable lens for landscapes.
Personally I think it's a great lens for its price

Ho usato il Sigma 30 f/1.4 per alcuni anni ed alla fine l'ho venduto perchè intenzionato a passare da aps-c a full frame ed il 30 1.4 è una lente solo per sensori ridotti.
Mi piace molto questo obiettivo.
A f/1.4 è morbido (ma questo può essere anche un vantaggio se pensate alla fotografia di ritratto) ed a partire da f/1.8 diventa sfruttabile appieno.
È una lente molto leggera, compatta e la sua lunghezza focale equivale all'incirca ad un obiettivo normale su sensore da 35mm e per questo solitamente lo tenevo montato costantemente sulla mia fotocamera (son un amante degli obiettivi fissi).
I risultati fotografici sono molto buoni, la qualità piuttosto buona e la costruzione è ok (è una lente della serie EX di Sigma).
Spesso l'ho usato in situazioni di luce veramente molto scarsa e da questo punto di vista è molto interessante per la sua apertura di f/1.4 che permette di scattare foto in situazioni difficili, con ambientazioni scure, senza flash (non amo usare il flash se posso evitarlo) e anche con buoni risultati.
L'autofocus non è molto veloce e un po' rumoroso.
Il Sigma 30 f/1.4 EX DC è un buon obiettivo, con un prezzo accessibile e con una qualità molto buona (personalmente penso sia comparabile al Canon EF 50 f/1.4) e con una grande apertura massima che consente di scattare in un ampio range di situazioni.
La lunghezza focale di 30mm fa di questa lente Sigma una buona lente per street, un'interessante obiettivo per ritratti a figura intera e abbastanza sfruttabile per fotografia di paesaggio.
Personalmente penso che sia un'ottima lente per il suo prezzo e non posso che consigliarlo.

Review: Canon EF 135 f/2 L USM

The Canon EF 135 f / 2 L USM is probably one of the most popular and appreciated lens of Canon. Together with the 50 f/1.2 L and the 85 f/1.2 L, it composes the trio of lenses that many photographers desire to have in their own equipment. It gives a fantastic blur, great bokeh and colors and the details are really excellent. It's made with a robust construction coupled with an excellent ultrasonic motor. A lens that's really one of the the best and most successful of Canon.The focal length of 135 mm makes this lens ideal for close-up portrait. This length, associated with the maximum opening of f/2, allows a blur and a detachment of the subject from the background that are really fantastic.There are so many really good words to be spent in support of this lens but I'd be repetitive (a simple google search gives you access to tons of threads regarding this lens and photo galleries). So I'll just briefly describe what I have found about the characteristics of my 135L. In few words: superior optical performance, very good construction, fast auto-focus, high opening that allows good shots even in low light and a really beautiful blur. The only flaw? The price. Unfortunately, there's not a Canon 135 non-L lens. A lacking from a certain point of view. In fact, if next to EF 50 f/1.2 L there's the appreciated EF 50 f/1.4 brother and similarly with regard to the 85 f/1.2 L there's the good EF 85 f/1.8, the 135 f/2 has no relatives "brothers" (except the old Canon EF 135 f2.8 soft-focus, but it does not certainly have a reputation comparable to the 50 1.4 and 85 1.8).The 135 f/2 L is a lens which is very easy to fall in love with and it is difficult to separate from it without any remorse.

Il Canon EF 135 f/2 L USM è probabilmente uno dei più conosciuti ed apprezzati obiettivi di casa Canon per ritrattistica. Assieme al 50 f/1.2 L e all'85 f/1.2 L costituisce il terzetto di ottiche da ritratto che molti fotografi desidererebbero possedere nel loro corredo.
Un'ottica L, la fascia professionale di obiettivi Canon, e non per niente. Sfocato invidiabile, generosa apertura, resa dei colori e dei dettagli davvero eccellente, costruzione robusta affiancata da un ottimo motore ultrasonico. Una lente veramente tra le migliori e più riuscite di Canon.
La lunghezza focale di 135 mm rende quest'ottica ideale per i primi piani. Lunghezza che, associata all'apertura massima di f/2, permette uno sfocato ed uno stacco del soggetto dallo sfondo davvero fantastici.
Ci sarebbero davvero tante buone parole da spendere a favore di questo obiettivo ma risulterebbero ripetitive (una semplice ricerca con google permette di accedere a tonnellate di discussioni e gallerie fotografiche riguardanti questa lente). Io mi limiterò perciò a descrivere brevemente, come mia consuetudine, le caratteristiche che ho potuto riscontrare del mio 135L.
In breve: un'ottica eccellente sia per quanto riguarda i files che sforna, sia per costruzione; un autofocus veloce, un'apertura elevata che consente ottimi scatti anche con poca luce; uno sfocato magnifico. L'unico difetto? Il prezzo.
Purtroppo un'ottica di questa focale non L in casa Canon manca in un certo senso.
Se a fianco all' EF 50 f/1.2 L si colloca il buon fratellino EF 50 f/1.4 e analogamente per quanto concerne l'85 f/1.2 L c'è l'ottimo EF 85 f/1.8, il 135 f/2 L non ha parenti Canon degni di nota se non il vecchio Canon EF 135 f/2.8 soft-focus che però non ha una fama paragonabile al 50 1.4 ed all'85 1.8.
IL 135 f/2 L rimane comunque una lente della quale è molto facile innamorarsi una volta provata e delle quale difficilmente si riesce a separarsi senza qualche rimorso.

Review: Canon EF 200 f/2.8 L USM mkII

An L lens, synonymous of optical and mechanical quality at the highest levels for Canon, with a quite low price? The answer to this question is the excellent Canon EF 200 f/2.8 L USM mkII: a fixed focal length lens, equipped with ultrasonic motor with a great f/2 ratio and an undeniable quality. The 200 f/2.8 L lens is often overlooked considering the Canon L lenses.But if you're among those who use a 70-200 zoom at maximum focal almost always so the cheaper Canon 200 fixed lens could be the right choice for you. The quality of this optic is really great, as its construction too. The colors in my opinion are more than satisfactory, I would say they're excellent. The objective is short, has internal focusing, is black (unlike other Canon L-series telephoto) and is light enough.
Personally, I mounted the Canon EF 200 f/2.8 L mostly on a Canon EOS 40D with very satisfactory results, a good blur, a color quality truly wonderful and a very good quality of details. Even on Canon EOS 30-film optics the pictures come out really well. I used mainly black and white films with excellent results for portraiture.I tried also it on a Canon EOS 5D mkII. What about this... the results are truly excellent. The blur is even better and I must say that the optic mounted in a FF camera become an excellent portrait lens (with APS-c of course sometimes you're facing the problem of a quite too long lens maybe).I also own the Canon 135 f/2 L and I must say that as optical quality the 200L is closer enough. Of course the 135L is wider so it's the best in the field of portraiture, but also the 200 fights very well, and as construction they're practically twins. A lens, the 200 f/2.8 L USM mkII, that I highly recommend if you're looking for this kind of optic. Compared to the 70-200 f/2.8 L it costs less, it's lighter and it gives anyway really great results.The only thing that I think could be a goal for the 70-200 f/2.8 is the versatility of the zoom.

Una lente L, sinonimo di qualità ottica e meccanica ai massimi livelli in casa Canon, ad un prezzo tutto sommato contenuto? La risposta a questo interrogativo è l'ottimo obiettivo Canon EF 200 f/2.8 L USM mkII: una lente a focale fissa, dotata di motore ultrasonico con una generosa apertura e dalla qualità innegabile.
Il 200 f/2.8 L fisso viene spesso tralasciato quando si prendono in considerazione i teleobiettivi L di Canon.
Se siete però tra quelli che usano uno zoom 70-200 quasi sempre alla massima focale allora il più economico 200 fisso di casa Canon potrebbe fare al caso vostro.
La qualità di quest'ottica è davvero ottima, così come la sua costruzione. La resa dei colori a mio avviso è ben più che soddisfacente, direi che è eccellente.
L'obiettivo è corto, ha la messa a fuoco interna, è nero (a differenza degli altri tele Canon serie L) ed è abbastanza leggero. L'ideale per non dare nell'occhio per qualche scatto rubato o per portarsi in borsa o al collo un tele senza pesi ed ingombri che possano infastidire una semplice gita fuori porta.
Personalmente ho montato il Canon EF 200 f/2.8 L USM principalmente Canon EOS 40D, con risultati molto soddisfacenti, un buono sfuocato, una resa dei colori veramente invidiabile e una buonissima resa dei dettagli. Anche su Canon EOS 30 a pellicola l'ottica ne esce veramente bene. L'ho usate soprattutto con pellicole in bianco e nero per degli ottimi risultati in ritrattistica.
Per quanto riguarda il full frame ho provato il 200L su Canon EOS 5D mkII di una amica. Che dire... risultati davvero eccellenti. Lo sfocato si fa ancora migliore e devo dire che l'ottica 200 su FF diventa un ottimo obiettivo per ritratti (mentre su aps-c a volte risulta ovviamente lungo dato il fattore di moltiplicazione 1.6x).
Concludendo non posso che consigliarvi questa lente.
Posseggo anche il Canon 135 f/2 L e devo dire che come qualità ottica se la battono davvero bene. Certo la maggior apertura del 135 la fa da padrone in ambito ritrattistico ma anche il 200 combatte davvero ottimamente e come costruzione sono praticamente gemelli.
Un obiettivo il 200 f/2.8 L USM mkII che mi sento quindi di consigliare. Rispetto al 70-200 L f/2.8 costa decisamente meno, è più leggero e dona risultati davvero ottimi.
L'unica cosa che a mio avviso può far optare per il 70-200 f/2.8 liscio è la maggiore versatilità dello zoom. De gustibus.

I've used the Sigma 150-500 OS HSM for about one year and a half.

This lens, in my opinion, is a good compromise between a good price and quite good optic.

Obviously it cannot be compared to the Canon prime lenses as 400 L or 500 L but it could be compared (taking care that anyway it's in another quality level) with the 100-400 L IS.

The Sigma 150-500 cost is about 850€ now and the Canon 100-400 about 1400€.

I found the Sigma 150-500 OS HSM a good lens, with an interesting quality until 400mm and a decay at 500mm.

The stabilizer is very good and it's very helpful for the shoot without tripod. The only one thing that could be a bit annoying is the image shift when the OS comes into operation.

The AF, based on Sigma HSM motor, is very fast and silent.

The most relevant problem is, obviously, the lack of luminosity.

The lens aperture varies between f/5 and f/6.3 so in low light situation it could be a problem and you need to increase the ISO setting.

For this reason i replace it, loosing the supertele focal, with a Canon 200 f/2.8 L mkII lens.

In conclusion it's a good lens, with a good, but not great, optical quality and a very good price that permit people to obtain good pictures with a not too high expense.

Ho posseduto ed utilizzato il Sigma 150-500 OS HSM per un anno e mezzo circa.
L'obiettivo in questione a mio parere è un buon compromesso per chi cerca un supertele a prezzo ridotto, magari perchè la focale non è quella preferita o per motivi più puramente economici (un Canon 400 L o 500 L costano ben di più come si sa...).
Ovviamente la qualità non può essere paragonata a quella di un tele fisso Canon.
L'accostamento che viene più naturale è quello con il Canon 100-400 L IS.
Si deve comunque considerare che si stan accostando un obiettivo (il sigma) che costa intorno agli 850€ con un altro che si trova attorno ai 1400€ al momento.
Il confronto va quindi fatto con le dovute considerazioni di contorno.
Detto questo personalmente ho trovato il 150-500 Sigma un buon obiettivo, con una resa interessante fino a circa 400mm, che poi decade alla massima lunghezza focale.
La stabilizzazione è buona ed aiuta non poco negli scatti a mano libera; unica cosa che si nota è lo "scatto" che ha l'immagine all'attivazione dell'OS che può un po' disturbare.
L'AF, che sfrutta il motore HSM Sigma, è silenzioso e veloce.
L'obiettivo si può utilizzare anche a mano libera, anzi la maggior parte degli scatti l'ho effettuata proprio in questo modo.
Il fattore più problematico è, ovviamente, la scarsa luminosità. L'obiettivo ha un'apertura variabile da f/5 a f/6.3. In condizioni di luce scarsa quindi diventa di difficile utilizzo e si rende necessario aumentare gli ISO, con tutte le conseguenze che ne derivano.
Questo è proprio il motivo per cui l'ho sostituito con il Canon 200 f/2.8 L USM, avendo personalmente bisogno di un tele luminoso.
Come ovvio mi manca il lato super tele che i 500 mm del Sigma offrivano.
Magari ci penserò su più avanti per un fisso tipo i Canon serie L 300 f/4 o il 400 f/5.6, ma questa è già un'altra storia.
Per concludere questa breve serie di opinioni personali riguardo quest'ottica il Sigma 150-500 OS HSM è un obiettivo che consiglio a chi non se la sente di spendere troppi soldi in un'ottica supertele che poi rischia di non utilizzare a sufficienza oppure a chi vuole provare a iniziare ad usare una focale prima sconosciuta. La qualità ottica è buona ma non certo eccelsa. Un compromesso che comunque permette di scattare buone fotografie.
Il prezzo per una focale del genere è insuperabile. Considerate che questi obiettivi si trovano spesso anche nel mercato dell'usato a buoni prezzi.
