Mr. Canevin to be Announced Wednesday

After a lot of hard work, the six nominees for Mr. Canevin will find out who has been chosen to represent our school! Mr. Canevin will be crowned this Wednesday during a recognition assembly scheduled for 1:25 p.m. Parents of the six boys that participated are encouraged to attend the event.

BC Swim Team Update

Congrats to the following BC Swimmers for setting new school records!

Emily Bergman broke the high school swim team record in the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:21.57.

Colin Gilson broke the high school swim team record in the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:10.13 also qualifying him for WPIAL's.

The boys 200 Medley Relay of Brad Davis, Colin Gilson Marty Scanlon and Charles Simpson broke the high school swim team record as well.

Congrats to the follow members of swim team for qualifying for the WPIAL swimming championships!

The following boys have qualified for the WPIAL swimming championships at the University of Pgh. on Feb 27 and 28.

Brad Davis, Colin Gilson, Marty Scanlon, Colin Scanlon Charles Simpson, Eric Cleis and Connor Gaitens. They have qualified in 5 individual events and all 3 relays.

BC Football Fundraiser

Rockefeller's is sponsoring a fund raiser event for the BC Football Program on the third Tuesday of every month, starting on Febraury 18th.

To participate, all you have to do is go to Rockefeller's anytime onTuesday and tell them you are with Bishop Canevin Football. Then, they will donate 15% of your total bill (prior to tax and tip), to the boosters.

It is that easy!

Penguin Ticket Raffle - Deadline Approaching

Jamie Egan, a junior, was honored by the Zonta Club of Washington with their Amelia Earhart Recognition award. She was nominated by her guidance counselor, Mrs. Liptak, to represent our school due to her academic excellence and her service to the community.

Spanish Club Pulsera Project

¿Se ha preguntado alguna vez sobre la vida en América central? Many people who live in Central America suffer from poor living conditions that are surrounded by famine, vagrancy, and poverty. In an attempt to improve these conditions, the “Pulsera Project” was created to provide young adults from these countries with empowering opportunities by selling their artwork in schools. Bishop Canevin participated in the “Puslera Project” this year by selling handmade bracelets from Nicaragua for $5. The sale occurred for three days, and the bracelets were sold during all lunch periods. Our school raised over $1,000 for the project. All proceeds from this event will help provide shelter, education, environmental improvements, and job opportunities to the students and families who made the bracelets. Attention Holy Trinity Alumni – Volunteers are needed!

Holy Trinity graduates attending Bishop Canevin High School are needed to act as tour guides for the February Open House events hosted by the school. You will be joining parents, teachers, former classmates and other volunteers to help conduct tours of the school for new families.

This is a great chance to come back to your former school, see some of your old friends and teachers and help us show new families just how nice Holy Trinity is!

There are two Open Houses. You can volunteer for one or both if you like. Saturday February 15th from 11-2 and Wednesday February 19th from 5:30 – 8:30.

Please plan on arriving a half hour before the event to receive instructions. Students should dress appropriately. Many students choose to wear their high school uniforms or something with their school logo on it. We will have light refreshments on hand.

Sign the list outside of Mrs. Reinhart’s office to commit to volunteering for one or both of the Open House events.

Think Spring! Girls Softball is Starting

If you’re suffering from snow fatigue, we have the cure: join the girls softball team. There’s still time to be a part of this winning tradition. Established in 1979 and coached for 30 years by WPIAL Hall of Fame inductee Bob Jacoby, the softball team has won 2 WPIAL championships, 1 PIAA state title and countless section crowns.

We look to keep this proud tradition going strong as we seek our second straight playoff appearance this season. It’s a young team and we looking to add some dedicated, hard-working athletes to help us achieve our goals. Practice is Tuesday, Thursday and Friday through February and early March. BC Basketball - 20 Point Club

Several BC Basketball players scored 20 points or more last week in AA Section Basketball action:

On Tuesday, February 4th, Brennan Cahill '14 and Dom Palmosina '16 scored 20 a piece as the boys basketball team defeated Fort Cherry 73-63 in Section 4 play.

Also on Tuesday Feb 4th, as the girls team beat Fort Cherry 56-35, Erin Joyce '16 scored 22 points.

Lastly, on Friday Feb 7th, Johnie Olkosky '14 scored 21 points for the Lady Crusaders when they soundly defeated Brentwood 64- 30

Playoff pairings will be announced Tuesday 2/11/14.

Explore La Roche College Design on Feb. 17

“Meet Design” to provide overview of graphic and interior design fields

On Monday, February 17, La Roche College will host “Meet Design”, an all-day event for high school students to explore creative careers in the fields of graphic and interior design. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at La Roche’s main campus in the North Hills. Students who attend “Meet Design” will test their own creative skills by participating in a hands-on design project. After presenting their projects, students will engage in a question-and-answer session with current La Roche students, faculty and outside professionals for an inside look at the challenges and opportunities in the design field. Parents also are welcome to attend. “Meet Design” will offer an alternate schedule for parents to learn more about La Roche’s admissions process, financial aid, tutoring and academic support, and career services.

The event will include a personal tour of a La Roche residence hall and design studios, as well as a free continental breakfast and lunch in the Cantellops Dining Hall. Students in Action 2014 Mid-Winter Leadership Conference
