5 years ago from today was Kobe's historic 81 point game.

2011-01-23T19:44:00.000+11:00

It has been exactly 5 years since Kobe's 81 point game against the Toronto Raptors ending with Lakers winning 122-104. It is without a doubt the best individual scoring performance us NBA fans have ever seen. Sure Wilt Chamberlain holds the record for most points in a game with 100, but let's be real here, 40 years ago, many NBA players would not focus on defence; their main focus was offence, hence the end score 169-147.

Kobe was 28-46 in field goals which is almost 61%, 18-20 from the FT line and 7-13 from the 3pt line !! From Phil Jackson himself, "I've seen some remarkable games but I've never seen anything like that before." Keep in mind that Phil has played against Wilt and coached the GOAT MJ.

Please watch Kobe's remarkable performace, it is all of his 81 points in a 3 minute video.
Thanks~

How to improve your Free Throw shot percentage

2011-01-22T16:03:00.000+11:00

Free throws are one of the fundamental skills a basketball player needs to possess. This skill is not dependent on talent, it is developed through hard work, practice and consistency. I will provide tips on how to improve your free throws.

Tip #1

You must dedicate 30 minutes everyday shooting free throws. It doesn't matter if you miss the majority of your shots, the more you practice, the better you will get. Every basketball player has a free throw routine or ritual. For example, Gilbert Arenas will move the basketball 3 times behind his back before taking the free throw. He will do this for EVERY free throw shot. You must make yourself a free throw routine and stick with it.

Tip #2

Work on your free throw form. When I started playing basketball, my coach would tell the team to think of the acronym "BEEF" when shooting the free throw. The B is balance; make sure before you shoot the ball, your legs, body and head are balanced. This is very important if you want the ball to follow through and not curve to the side. The first E is eyes. Most new basketball players would look at the ball while shooting the ball. THIS IS WRONG. The point of basketball is to shoot the ball into the hoop. Your eyes must be focused on the rim; not the ball. The second E is elbow. Now if you're right handed and your getting ready to shoot the free throw; make sure your elbow is at a position where it does not cover one of your eyes. When you shoot a free throw, you want both your eyes focused on the rim, positioning your elbow so that it blocks one of your eyes can distort the whole shot and result in a miss. You don't want that. The F is follow through. Following through is very important and I can't stress this enough. When you follow through, what happens is when the ball leaves your hand, it moves into the direction of your index finger. This is crucial because if you don't follow through, the ball can move to the right or left and you don't want that.

Tip #3

Once you have the first two tips done, now it's time to put this to practice. Go to your local basketball court and stand behind the free throw line. You have your routine, you understand "BEEF", now shoot the ball the same way every time. Do the same amount of bounces, hold the ball the same, stand in the same spot. Do this everytime without changing it up and I guarantee your free throw game will increase dramatically.

STOJAKOVIC TRADED TO THE MAVERICKS

2011-01-21T22:01:00.000+11:00

The Mavericks are on the verge of adding All-Star swingman help after losing Caron Butler to a season-ending knee injury. Peja Stojakovic, bought out by Toronto on Thursday, has given Dallas a verbal agreement to sign once he clears waivers Monday, a league source confirmed to NBA.com.

This is a great trade for the Mavericks. Peja Stojakovic, a 13-year vet, is one of the league’s all-time best 3-point shooters at 40.1 percent. Peja is currently 5th in all time 3 point shots made.

Carmelo trade rumors with Nets

2011-01-20T23:10:00.000+11:00

Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has told the team to end trade talks with Denver Nuggets concerning Carmelo Anthony.

"There comes a time when the price is simply too expensive," Prokhorov said in a news conference before the Nets faced the Utah Jazz. "I am instructing our team to walk away from the deal."

These trade rumors have affected the Nets, losing six straight games.

There were reports Wednesday that Anthony's representatives had let the Nuggets know that the 26-year-old forward was interested in playing for the Chicago Bulls. Houston and the Knicks also have been mentioned in trade talks involving Anthony.

The proposed deal had New Jersey sending point guard Devin Harris, rookie power forward Derrick Favors, the third draft pick overall, guards Anthony Morrow, Quinton Ross and Ben Uzoh, swingman Stephen Graham and at least two first-round draft picks to Denver.

History of Basketball

2011-01-20T23:04:00.000+11:00

Basketball was invented in December 1891 by the Canadian clergyman, educator, and physician James Naismith. Naismith introduced the game when we was an instructor at the Young Men's Christian Association Training School (now Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts. At the request of his superior, Dr. Luther H. Gulick, he organized a vigorous recreation suitable for indoor winter play. The game involved elements of American football, soccer, and hockey, and the first ball used was a soccer ball. Teams had nine players, and the goals were wooden peach baskets affixed to the walls. By 1897-1898, teams of five became standard. The game rapidly spread nationwide and to Canada and other parts of the world, played by both women and men; it also became a popular informal outdoor game. U.S. servicemen in World War II (1939-1945) popularized the sport in many other countries.

A number of U.S. colleges adopted the game between about 1893 and 1895. In 1934 the first college games were staged in New York City's Madison Square Garden, and college basketball began to attract heightened interest. By the 1950s basketball had become a major college sport, thus paving the way for a growth of interest in professional basketball.

The first pro league, the National Basketball League, was formed in 1898 to protect players from exploitation and to promote a less rough game. This league only lasted five years before disbanding; its demise spawned a number of loosely organized leagues throughout the northeastern United States. One of the first and greatest pro teams was the Original Celtics, organized about 1915 in New York City. They played as many as 150 games a season and dominated basketball until 1936. The Harlem Globetrotters, founded in 1927, a notable exhibition team, specializes in amusing court antics and expert ball handling.

In 1949 two subsequent professional leagues, the National Basketball League (formed in 1937) and the Basketball Association of America (1946) merged to create the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Boston Celtics, led by their center Bill Russell, dominated the NBA from the late 1950s through the 1960s. By the 1960s, pro teams from coast to coast played before crowds of many millions annually. Wilt Chamberlain, a center for the Los Angeles Lakers, was another leading player during the era, and his battles with Russell were eagerly anticipated. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, also a center, came to prominence during the 1970s. Jabbar perfected his famed "sky hook" shot while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers and dominated the opposition.

The NBA suffered a drop in popularity during the late 1970s, but was resuscitated, principally through the growing popularity of its most prominent players. Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics, and Magic Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers are credited with injecting excitement into the league in the 1980s through their superior skills and decade-long rivalry. During the late 1980s Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls rose to stardom and helped the Bulls dominate the NBA during the early 1990s. A new generation of basketball stars, including Shaquille O'Neal of the Orlando Magic and Larry Johnson of the Charlotte Hornets, have sustained the NBA's growth in popularity.

In 1959 a Basketball Hall of Fame was founded in Springfield, Massachusetts. Its rosters include the names of great players, coaches, referees, and people who have contributed significantly to the development of the game.

I am 6' and 170lbs at 15% bodyfat. I am currently bulking at 3500 calories separated with 6 meals a day. My short term goal at the moment is to gain 20lbs so I have a decent amount of mass. Once I achieve that I will cut down to 180lbs~ with 10% bodyfat.

My current goal is to gain strength in my lifts. I will be doing Madcows 5x5 for 4-6months, depending on my results. Hopefully I can achieve my goals.

Dubstep History

2011-01-20T12:24:00.000+11:00

Dubstep was originally emerged in London during the early 2000's. Despite its formation at the turn of the century, dubstep did not really become popular or well known until 2006.

Dubstep is characterized by its heavy emphasis on bass frequencies, minimalist rhythms and dark notes. Listening to dubstep as its meant to be heard, surrounded by towering subs that vibrate through the club, can give the impression of being underwater thanks to the permanently suppressed bass.

Like techno, dubstep is mostly instrumental and uses simplistic samples as a basis for a track but, although it has been known as ‘Croydon Techno’ thanks to its origins in the parties and DJs of the Croydon scene, but it bears little similarity to this better known element of dance music. It is darker, using minor keys and jarring chords in conjunction with dissonant rhythms that are often syncopated and shuffled, using triplets to establish skip-and-repeat progressions. Dubstep also uses the bass drop recognisable in drum and bass yet retains a curiously minimal sound.

Fuelled by the community spirit that kept it at the centre of internet forum discussions and bought it into the high profile club scene, dubstep has become an exciting answer for those searching for something new and original in dance music.
