when i was younger I played a bit of basketball, from 7th to 9th grade. I, like a good Irish catholic, would do the 'sign of the cross' before each foul shot.

in tenth grade I realized that god/Jesus/alah/buddah ect. might have more to do than helping me score one more point so I quit signing. I practiced more and worked on my arc and follow through because a coach told me to.

Camus' philosophical essay LE MYTHE DE SISYPHE states..."There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide. Deciding whether or not life is worth living is to answer the fundamental question in philosophy. All other questions follow from that." Camus compares the absurdity of the existence of humanity to the labours of the mythical character Sisyphus, who was condemned through all eternity to push a boulder to the top of a hill and watch helplessly as it rolled down again. Camus takes the nonexistence of God granted and finds meaning in the struggle itself……...Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Ken Baldwin, a depressed 28 year-old who attempted suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge, recalls his first thoughts after he jumped: "I instantly realized that everything in my life that I’d thought was unfixable was totally fixable — except for having just jumped....

.John Stuart Mill argued in his influential essay On Liberty that since the sine qua non of liberty is the power of the individual to make choices; any choice that one might make that would deprive him or her of the ability to make further choices should be prevented. Thus, for Mill, selling oneself into slavery or killing oneself should be prevented, in order to avoid precluding the ability to make further choices.

When my children were young and a TV news story would expound about a fellows suicide and the alleged causes of the deceased actions. I would opine that If my job was going into the tank, finances were rotten, my wife & I were at verbal loggerheads and divorce was imminent. That if I did not show up at dinner and no one knew where I was, I had not committed suicide.

The experiences of life are irreplaceable,
both the good and bad,
the tasteful and the retched,
the beautiful and the ugly,
everything is some how pleasant in its experience......

That if I disappear,
I am not ravaged at the bottom of an Allegheny Mountain precipice,
I am not swelling up in the mud of one of Pittsburgh's three rivers,
nor decomposing, self shot, in the Appalachians.

My family will not know where I am but rest assured that I am not dead by my own hand........

There is a gas station in Montana waiting for me.
I will be pumping gas, fixing flats and changing oil.
making my way.
I will have a garret above a store,
an old BMW airhead motorcycle and a fishing rod.

I will be enjoying the warm sun on my face,
the wonderful sweetness of Bourbon over a piece of ice,
the taste of sweat and the muscle ache following a long brisk mountain walk.

When time heals, I will return.

.As Camus advises.In the final analysis suicide is redundant because it destroys all future choices, it negates the individual’s emerging passion for life,
it contradicts a person’s nascent rebellion.

if the time ever arrives, as it once passed thru my mind.
I will be at a gas station in Montana…
keeping my old BMW airhead motorcycle in good nick...
Finding meaning in the struggle...
waiting for the unfixable to be fixed….

I got the bike in Oklahoma City and rode same to Pittsburgh at 17 years old

They were desert sleds on the west coast

500cc & 650 cc brit bikes for running in the vast deserts of the south west

We saw lots of water and mud on the east coast

I raced motocross on the T100C until a friend passed me riding a 360 greeves

He was standing on the pegs throwing stones
It was then that I knew I was only a woods rider
