I Began as a Driver Trainee,

In McLean's West Middlesex PA terminal

Ended up as the

Quincy IL Terminal Manager

After a year on the road Management Transferred me to N.C. to continue My training towards management.

Drove OTR (Over the Road) 2-man operation (sleeper berth)

Shifting was easy, road ranger switch on the Shift-lever or on the Dog-House, depending on items that 45 years later I cannot.

The Spicer switch was always on the lever, next to the knob. remember.

started driving the old single axle Whites,

I was offered and went into Management training

Which resulted of being named the Terminal Manager

Of the Quincy IL Terminal at 23 years old,

I was fired at 27, graduated from

Law School at 32

and all is fine

What happened McLean Trucking?

Unfortunately, it was too far gone. In 1986, the company filed for bankruptcy, and approximately 10,000 people lost their jobs. At its largest, McLean operated approximately 3,800 tractors and 9,600 trailers out of its 300 terminals in 45 states.Jan 9, 2020

Trip planning, GPS or maps? Tail Light Overkill?

Maps or GPS?

For a reason I have never used a GPS on my Motorbike Journeys

I have a clear map holder on my tank bag &

On a 6x9" note card I write my daily directions.

"Rt 219 S to (town)

E on rt 422 towards the next step"

I do not want to read an electric screen for route numbers.

I do not was a computer to pick my routes.

Over coffee with a map & sharpie

I mark my route number boldly on the note card.

I have found that sometimes one misses a turn.

Wanders somewhat aimlessly about.

It is during these wanders that I have stumbled across

interesting folks and places,

the journey is what is important

Motorcycle Camping

I prefer to camp on a motorcycle trip

I have done both, camp & motels

My first long distance trip was in 1967 on new Triumph T100C

Bethany OK to Pittsburgh PA for college

first night rain, cheap motel W. of St Louis

second night near dayton ohio

slept on picnic bench under a road side rest shelter

Then 30 years later graduated to BMWs, Tents or

staying in hotels, maybe if it has been raining all day

My 2 BMWs 1978 R100RS and my 1977 R100/7

Camping, sit around a few candle lanterns

Have a few drinks and discuss anything.

The RS and the Alum bagged /7 are my machines

Hotels, sit in th eroom or bar then to bed
