Smoke Detectors & Vaulted Ceilings

So, it happened. I knew it was only a matter of time. The battery of the smoke detector in our bedroom died. And so the chirping began. At 2:00 in the morning. Why does that always happen in the middle of the night--in the room with the vaulted ceilings? Of course, we don't own a ladder, so I had to stand on Jeremy's shoulders. I didn't know what I was doing and accidentally pressed the test button, so that every single alarm in the entire house went off. I could hardly reach, but I was able to pull out the battery--which we all know does not stop the chirping. (Remember the Friends episode with Phoebe and the smoke detector?!) Luckily, we had a battery, and we were able to make the switch. You know, you never know when your high school cheerleading skills are going to come in handy. And, I'm just sure that Jeremy really appreciated my, "Ready one two's" at two in the morning. But, in spite of the three ring circus in our bedroom last night, I still LOVE vaulted ceilings. Battle of the Beds | Four Poster Beds

So...I haven't blogged in a while. As Stella says, "I got distracted." (For two (or more) weeks...story of my life.) The good news? I have made EVERY single decision for the new house. Of course, that doesn't include interior design, just all of the other stuff. I'm sure there will be plenty of time to ~~lose sleep~~ think over the interior. It's moving fast, and we're super excited!

So, speaking of the interior, something super annoying has happened: Jeremy all of a sudden has opinions on decor. I'm like, "Dude, this is my thing. I don't go around your clinic telling you what to do with your patients. Stella needs a four poster bed in her room. Who cares if it blocks your line of vision, and since when did you start using the phrase line of vision?" I know. He's ridiculous. I knew you'd agree with me. So, let's look at some of inspiration pics for Stella's bed, shall we?

Have you guys seen this? I love it, and I think that even I could handle this. (And, by I, I actually mean me. I could actually do it myself, and not just have the idea then beg Jeremy to do it for me.) I mean, this is right up my alley: a project that entails just looking at the pictures, no reading instructions on this one, folks. Supplies needed are four six-foot dowels, paint, tape, and rope. I LOVE me a nice, soft pink. I think it's a lot more versatile than some people may think. I mean, let's be honest, pink kind of has a personality of belonging in a little girl's room, but I think it can go anywhere. I'll tell you why. First of all, I love it paired with more masculine hues like navies, dark grays, and even blacks. Second of all, a little bit can go a long way. Just adding light pink in a piece of art, a throw, or a pillow can sometimes be enough. Third of all, it's subtle and calming, and it's just awesome, so you should just add some to your home. I know what you're thinking: I should have gone into law.

Staircase Obsession

I'm not going to reference Stairway(s) to Heaven on this post (which was way before my time, by the way) , but I'll be honest, I was thinking it. I mean, honestly, these staircases...pure obsession here, aaaand a little bit of disappointment that mine are not going to look remotely like any of these. World wide web, why do you do this to me? You with all of your beautiful pictures and things to buy. Sigh*. I mean, in your defense, you were helpful when I wanted to look up the artist and year of Stairway to Heaven, I will give you that, but who cares about that when there are so many pretty pictures to look at? Not me.

I love that I can go on Pinterest and find Valentines for Stella. And, as an added bonus, a lot of them have free printable, too. (Bless you creative mommas who are willing to share your creations!) On the other hand, I've realized that since Pinterest has come along, I'm about the least creative person ever. Oh well, not creating my own Valentines, gave me the opportunity to stay up until 1:00 am every night stressing out about bathroom light fixtures. See? Much better use of time! Ok, so here's the disclaimer: I don't sew, and I don't know how to use power tools. So, when I say that something's easy, I mean that it may be easy(ish) for someone who knows what he or she is doing. I may or may not be correct. With that being said, this project looks like it is totally doable...with the right tools (and person). In other words, I bet I could find someone to make this for me.

I was going to say pink AND gray, but quite honestly, I'm not a hundred percent sure what color is in all of the pictures. I'm using the laptop tonight, and either I'm not used to it, or my eyes are not great. It could be a combination of the two, but I'm going to blame it on the computer. I'm in total denial about my eyesight. I love the different hues of pink. Pink is actually super versatile, which is why I love it. It can go in any room from nursery to living room. But hey, don't take my word for it, I can't even see which rooms are gray and which rooms are tan. Either way, pink looks great with both!

Metal Beds

Oh my goodness, you guys. I promise I haven't already quit updating this blog (although, if I'm being honest, some of my other resolutions fell to the wayside puh-rit-ty quickly). Now, I'm not positive that we had the full-blown flu around these parts, but Salem, Stella, and I had body aches, fevers, sore throats, and general icky-ness. (That's the medical term, by the way.) Let's just say there was a lot of movie watching going on. (I'm pretty sure Stella probably likes it when I'm sick, because it's the one time her screen time is pretty much unmonitored and unlimited.)The good news is, I think it's over and done.

In other news, let's talk about my love for metal beds. I think one of my daughters needs one. Or two. Because, as we know, I equally love two twin beds. Imagine my excitement if I had two METAL beds. I get giddy just thinking about it.

Things Are Looking Up

I'm pretty sure I've used that title before, but, let's be honest, it works. Aren't these ceilings amazing? I love the detail and character of the ceilings in these pictures. I would LOVE any of these. Actually, I would be happy with ceilings, period. And guess what--we may be getting ceilings sooner rather than later. (And walls and floors, too!) That's right, after weeks and weeks of waiting for permits, we're ready to dig, folks. And though my ceilings won't be anything like these, they will be our ceilings, and I can't wait!

Holy cow, I'm glad we made it to Wednesday! Both Salem and Stella have been sick with fevers. They are finally feeling better, but I'll be honest, there's a whole lot of mucus goin' on up in herrr. It's gross.

Speaking of not gross, how much do we love charcoal gray? I love that it pops against white like black does, but it's not as harsh as black can sometimes be. It's almost black, but it's not. (That was a super deep statement, wasn't it?!) Hey, let's take what we can get after four days of being with kids in bed watching Barbie ten jillion times in a row, shall we?

P.S. My favorite charcoal is Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams.

I know this is a shocker, but I want everything in these pictures. I am seriously considering changing my bathroom vanities to navy. Yumm-ee. Speaking of blue, let's talk about the awkward party and the blue jeans I wore to said party--a "casual work get-together" according to Jeremy. Yeah...not so much. We walked into the room, and people were in suits, tuxes, cocktail dresses, and even a few floor-length gowns…and there I was in my faded jeans. It. Was. Awesome. Nothing like an awkward party to get the year started off right.

Colorful Couches

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a good weekend. I did--mostly because I got a brand new, super cute, practically perfect nephew. Oh, and I had lunch with some of my favorite people and later ate sushi at a totally awkward party. Good stuff, and I mean everything, not just the sush. (Yes, I call it sush, which is a super awesome word, because it can be both a noun and a verb (ie. Do you sush?).

Anyway…that was so far off topic, that I had to start a new paragraph. Colorful couches: I love them. I've always thought it would be fun to have one in a sitting room. We are actually going to have a sitting room in our new house, but it's not going to be a sitting room. It's going to be a roller skating/ballet/piano with no piano room. Yup, it's going to be empty. Completely. Empty. Sigh…no green couch for me! Oh well, I could really stand to improve on my roller skating skills.
