Happy's Bathroom Makeover

Well I promised you the pictures of my bathroom makeover and here they are...really all I did was paint the walls duck egg blue and moved in a whole lotta stuff, but I think we did good....

Rosie helped me paint the walls...she used the paintbrush and I, the roller...I use radiator rollers to paint walls, I find that the paint goes on easier and more evenly...Rosie did try the roller but it did splatter a bit and she didn't want to ruin her tan ;)

It was very easy moving my bits and bobs in, I had been saving things that I have been buying on my trips around Blighty and adding a few shop bought delights into the equation.

I have been collecting Cath Kidston pieces for years now and as you can see from the laundry bag hanging on the locker this dates back a good few years ago...infact probably when she was only 2 years old :)

I have also bought cheapies too! As the towels above and below on this retro unit were from Primark...or Primarni as we call it! They cost me £5 each and they are bath sheet size...the lovely spots and flowers and BIG UP BLIGHTY Union Jack really look good on this unit, and plus, I really couldn't bring myself to pay the CK price tag for towels...especially with the amount of hair that gets dyed in this bathroom...

Yes that is my bath and don't worry I haven't painted it blue too!...No! it is actually full up with water! lol! as just as I decided to take some piccies, Rosie decided to run a bath! doh!

The spotty pink and white towels are from Asda, they cost me £6 each...they are lovely and thick and soft and soooo worth the money! Also the bag is a homemade one, made from CK material, that I bought from a local craft fair...isn't it just yummy!

...The 1970's teak retro unit, (above, now painted white) I bought ages ago...we decoupaged it a while back, but I hated it and never took any piccies of it...but it looks fabulous painted white and looks so at home in the bathroom...it didn't have any shelves so I pushed in this lovely metal basket which fits very snugly, which helps to keep it in place. ( I know what ya thinking!...No Rosie isn't in the bath yet! lol)

I bought this beach hut fabric in Whitstable and made this cushion and the pictures I found at an Antiques Fair...

I hope you like my locker sticker, Freddy found this amoungst some papers that he bought...and I just had to stick it on this cupboard.

The shutters either side of the window are CD racks that I bought years ago...I was going to try and sell them, but they are a bit worn and some of the slats are uneven...and anyway I had a brainwave that they might look good as lookalikey shuttery type thingies...Now I am not very good at DIY but I found a hammer and a nail....and hey presto they are up!...Just don't walk too close to them! ;)

Artificial flowers again!!! ahh! they are doing so well in the window!

Can you remember the bathroom before...it had cream coloured walls, but I so love this duck egg! I think it makes colours POP, especially white and pink...oh yes loverley!

I Love Artificial Flowers

Ooooh yes I do...now do not get me wrong I love fresh flowers too!
...but I seriously love my artificial ones...

I am totally useless with plants...not the garden variety, because I have plants that do well in my soil, in the garden!...No! I am talking about the HOUSE PLANT!...I just can't help it...I forget to water them and they die off...

I have been known to talk to them! Yep Ok OK so I know it is supposed to be the first sign of madness!...or is that talking to yourself???...but no matter what I do, I think it might even be the 'fear' of killing them off!

...As I soooo remember, when my Mum and Dad left me for the first time, to go away on holiday on their own! I think I must have been about 17 at the time!! Oh what a disaster! No no no! I wasn't rowdy or anything...I didn't have a BIG party or anything...Na nuffing as awful as that!

They went away for one week only...and before my Mum left, she gave me strict instructions on how and how often to water the plants...yeh yeh yeh I said, rolling my eyes! I know! Keep Calm Mother! lol!

...Well I never heard from them all week until the day before they were coming home...and Mum said how are my plants doing Happs! And with that I looked around and thought! SH*T! Their all dead Mum! Whoops! I told her they were fine, to stop her worrying!

But no amount of watering was going to revive them! Oh dear! Needless to say I got a right 'ole telling off when she got home!lol!...and everytime she went on holiday after that little incident, she used to put her plants in a bath of shallow water! and I had to shower at a neighbours house!
Rotten Cheek! lol!

I think the news spread around the flower community and that is why, I do not have a very good relationship with indoor plants :)....anyway as I was saying...I love my artificial flowers...I love cheap and expensive ones, vintage and new ones...but buy the right colour and the right styles and they can look as delightful as the real thing, as do these little beauties above.

Its been raining cats and dogs

A lot of things have been happening at the Happy House lately...Ok Ok so it has been raining cats and dogs outside for a few weeks and my joints seem to be affected by the damp...jobs that I have been putting off for ages have been building up and the fact that I have two grown up children living with me...doesn't seem to help!!!...but only make them worse! Do kids ever end up tidying up after themselves????

Anyway...the Ironing needed doing, (I had a pile taller than the Eiffel Tower!) The house was getting into a right 'ole mess...and I told myself it was Ok because I was an artist...and all artists live in a mess! lol!...but it was making me depressed...no-one in the house is really capable...Rosie and Freddy are excused because they have 'orrible conditions and my grown up son Daz is always out! I think there is a method in his madness, so he doesn't have to do any jobs for me...!

...and what with all the rain...oh sooo depressing..I decided to use it to my advantage in the end and get sorting out and decorating...because after all who wants to decorate when its hot outside!

The grass in the garden has grown nearly as tall as my ironing pile...but I will have to leave that until it gets a bit dryer...what I have been doing though is decorating my bathroom, I have painted it a duck egg blue and moved the furniture around a bit and added some different books and ornaments...I haven't taken any pictures in there yet though....but rest assured that when I do I will blog about it :)

I have also sorted out my bedroom, added a few different pictures...moved the bed around to four different corners of the room and then decided it looked better where it originally was! Phew! it was sooo tiring doing that...I am also planning to add some wallpaper in this room (only on one wall) and perhaps paint some furniture...but again I will blog about that when I have finished it all...

I have been buying little nic naks on my travels and now I have so many things to add to my website, and re-decorate the rest of the house with...if you have been watching that programme 'The Hoarder Next Door'...well that is me right now...all my collectables are in the corner of the dining room, with the pile getting bigger and bigger...but it makes me feel soooo good! I just love clutter! lol! I am contradicting myself there a bit I know..but happy clutter is good clutter ain't it!

...and yesterday morning, Freddy's Mum and Dad popped round to help me with the ceremonious and rather overdue task of pulling down the overgrown ivy from the front of the house...yep it had reached the roof and was trying to get into the rafters!...surprisingly it came down really easily...it was a job that I had been putting off for ages, as I rather liked the look of it...but the thought that it could damage the roof was too much...but after a lot of hard work our efforts paid off and now we are ivyless!

I am now thinking how to make the front look better...nothing a few red geraniums can't sort out me finks!

I hope you have enjoyed the pictures...all taken in my house, here and there, more will follow, the more I keep you updated with how things are going...

Yes Gals...how exciting! Happy's Holivan is featured in the June edition of the Famous American Magazine 'Romantic Homes'

I do not have a copy to drool over myself yet, as it has just come out and the team at RHM have yet to send me a couple of copies...so I am showing you this PDF that they sent me...just as a preview.

I am so chuffed to be a part of this amazing magazine and so to make it a little different reading for my wonderful fans here in Blogland, that know quite a lot about me already, I have told RHM a few more details about my past...that hopefully will make more interesting reading.

So go on gals...buy this lovely mag, they send it all around the world and it kind of reminds me what our old Country Living Magazine used to be like, but more interesting with lots of REAL people and their wonderful arts and crafts...

Great Ideas for a Right Queen's Jubilee Knees Up!

Take yourself back to the summer of 1977...Roads were closed off, the sun was shining and we never had a care for Health and Safety! lol!...anyway we had a right 'ole Royal knees up didn't we!..Infact every street seemed to be closed off, with happy people, celebrating...

Well if you want to be involved in The Queens 60th Jubilee Celebrations you must have a look at this brilliant website that I have just stumbled upon...it is THE BIG LUNCH website, they have been having them all around the country for a few years now and the 2012 lunch coinsides with the 60th Jubilee!

There are plenty of ideas on their website including a pack to download if you are thinking of having a party...its probably a bit late to register for a street party now, but it gives plenty of tips and ideas, including a pack to download if you have been invited to one or you are having a garden party!

These BIG Lunches have been held all over the world too...which I think it is a brilliant, it gets people together, meeting and socialising with their neighbours, which can't be a bad thing can it! A new community spirit is surely a step in the right direction these days!

Ok ok so I have bright red hair...but these pictures make me want to have blue hair!

These lassies might be young...but that has never stopped me before...

I think blue hair Rocks! Especially these lighter tones

Perhaps I might have dark blue hair with light blue slices...
or will that look a little 'Rocky Horror show' lol!

Happy Easter my lovely people...

I have bought the outside in...this easter...I have flowers all over the place...although I have had to spray these yellow ones with perfume lol! I must admit they are looking a little worse for ware this morning! EeK!

Ok so I have spread the decorations around a bit...but everything looks so fresh and vibrant...I have also decorated this year with these vintage and very very shabby Japanese lanterns...I have had them for a couple of years now...infact I nearly put them up at Christmas...but they would of looked a little lost in amoungst all that sparkle...

So I decided to put them up on the ceiling for this Easters decorations and I think they look wonderful...do you like them?

My little chickadees are everywhere...and looking very cute in and amoungst my BIG UP BLIGHTY collectables.

These flowers above I did spray with perfume...coz they were getting a little whiffy!...so can you please squint when you are looking at this piccie...and hopefully the flowers might look a little better lol!

These are the eggs I managed to get...I have filled them with lots of little treats including maltesers and scratch cards...all ready for the Easter Egg hunt later today.

Its funny...as I usually have a stash of chocolate by where I sit in the living room...and last night my son Daz came to sit with us and watch telly, he asked if I had any chocolate and I said no and that I was saving anything I had for the Easter Egg hunt lol!

He has a very sweet tooth just like me...and asked if he could have them now and not participate in the Easter hunt!...but I said No and stuck to my guns!...you would think he was about 8 years old the way he was acting...not 22!

Anyway...I hope you have enjoyed all my pictures & do have a Happy Day today whatever you decide to do I will try to go to church I think, as I love to keep up with traditions...I might even fit in an afternoon Booty as well...and then I think a lovely Roast Dinner and a Snooze!

Sounds like a good plan!

Hello again...here are some more springtime and Easter pictures for you... there is a couple here that I havnt edited at all...so they are a little darker than usual...

Some of these piccies are of this years decorations...for instance the two above...I love these little chickies...I found these in the Pound Store...I love that place!...there was roughly 20 in the box and all for £1.00 what a bargain...so now they are dotted around the house!

This picture was taken a few years back...isn't nature wonderful!

Perfect colour combinations here!

...And do you remember this is a piccie from last years Easter decorations...I made these from a sheet of wrapping paper that was so apt for the job

Pretty flowers, I love to decorate with them...artificial or real it makes no difference to me, as long as they are in the right colours...

Swans...are my thing at the moment...and this one I will be filling with little eggs for tomorrow morning :)

Happy Easter Piccies

Well first of all let me start by saying HAPPY EASTER to you all!

I thought I would start Good Friday off by showcasing some of my past Easter decorations...These particular pictures were taken at my last house...infact this was Easter 2008.

Freddy made this teacup candleabre and it was featured on the Marie Claire idees website...which we were very chuffed about.

Nobody knew back then that we lived on a rather new Island with lots of new houses around us (most peeps thought we lived in an older house!)

...it was rather lovely though as we had three floors and looked over basin 2, which used to be visited by war ships and tall ships alike...

it was like being on holiday every day, living there...sigh!

Decorating your house for Easter couldn't be easier...get out those egg cups from your kitchen cupboards and display them around the house next to pretty postcards.

...buy Easter cards that you would like to receive yourself and display them in card holders (above)...or you might already have cards that have been sent to you...so this would be a lovely way to display them rather than just plonking them along the mantle or window sill.

Display your Easter stash of pretties...just like here...these above are artificial flowers...and I seem to of lost them over the years...this year I have gone into the Garden and picked my own...I have that yellow plant in the garden and I have also picked and made arrangements of my lovely pastel pink Ribes (thanks Sairer for telling me what it was ;) I love ya xx)

As for all the lovely sweet treats...I cannot display those until Easter Sunday, as they will all be eaten up and won't look all lovely on display!....with just the wrappers for show! Yep! even though my kids are now 18 and 22...they will still be naughty and eat all the treats...and then swear blind it wasn't them that ate them! :) Grrr!

I love this apple moneybox...not a very obvious Easter decoration, but it is lovely and bright...and that is the main thing...decorating the house with the things that you love and make you happy is the key to a happy life...

Oh I soooo love bunnies and this felt bunny garland will be used again this year...I do remember finding it the other day and putting it somewhere for safe keeping....do lets hope I can find it again lol!

Well! as I said...I will be bringing you some more pictures over the weekend of my springtime flowers and decorations for this year...I plan a Easter Egg hunt for Easter Sunday! lol! yep even though my kiddies are grown ups now...I still like to keep up the traditions...when I said the other day about, perhaps they were too old for it...Rosie was horrified! so at the moment I am trying to find little things that fit into those plastic refillable eggs that I seem to of bought! Oh what fun! lol!

Freddies Clip it Up Craft Tidy

In a crafting circle near you, there will be a bunch of ladies and gents creating their art in a turmoil of clutter...never being able to find what they want at the right time...this is also Freddies Dilemma..

He has an abundance of craft supplies in several boxes, shelves and cupboards...and you know when you want to make something and for the life of you - you cannot remember what box or cupboard it is in...well this is definitely the answer!

I am not claiming that this is our idea...oh no! 'Clip it Up' is a trade name for a similar product...but YOUTUBE is full of crafty crafters making their own cheaper alternatives and this is ours...

We have made this one from an old lamp shade and base...plastic folders, paper clips and bulldog clips...all cheap as chips, found in charity shops and The Pound Store...

It isn't quite finished as we are going to put something on the top to hide the light fitting...perhaps a plate or something....the base is stuck to a wheelie plant base, so that it can spin around...this was also bought in the good 'ole Pound Store!

Total Cost

Wheelie Plant stand = £1

Lamp Base = £2
Lampshade = £2 take the cover off
Paper clips and bulldog clips - our own
Clear plastic CD covers (top section) £2 for 100 - Ebay
Filofax clear covers (bottom section) Our Own

TOTAL = £7.00

Of course all the kit inside the pockets, is not included in this price!...lol!

...and here it is all finished and ready to put into our Hobby Holivan Caravan...
OoooOh! we are now soooo organsied!...Now where did I put the key to the caravan! lol!

I think I am going to have to make a few of these to organise my whole life! lol!

Light Nights - I love 'em

Oh I just love the light evenings...we are now watching 'Dancing on Ice' and it is still light!...I feel so much more energetic!

The cherry blossom will soon be in full bloom...

...and this lovely pink flower has already started to bud and bloom...I always forget what it is called (someone please remind me!)

Isn't nature wonderful!...Easter is on the way, and its time to get in the garden and clear away all the old and start planting some new.

Its also time to get those old garden shoes out and put the wellies away...oh its all so exciting for me as I love this time of year...we also have a new caravan to do up as well..I have been saving this especially for the Spring...its gonna be my BIG spring project.

And all the lovely dafodils and tulips here and there...Oh bring it on!

Yarn Bombing - Knit the City - Love it!

I was watching TV this evening and on popped an article about Yarn Bombing (I think it was on 'The One Show' but don't quote me!)...I had heard of it before, but hadn't really paid that much attention to it!...Well I happened to say I liked this on Facebook and so many people replied, so I thought I would bring this FANTABULOUS idea to your attention (thats if you havn't heard of it before of course!)!

It's kind of friendly graffitti but applied with quirky knitting of all shapes and sizes...you know the kind of stuff that, if you saw it, it would make you Happy! Just looking at these pictures shows you a little insight into it!...It so makes me want to get out the 'Ole' Knitting needles again...and brighten up my Towns lamp posts and pavements etc!

New Doll Additions

I have found a couple of new dolls...what do you think of them...?

Sorry about the picture quality...coupled with my camera getting worse and the light in my cottage...it doesn't bode very well for brilliant pictures...but hopefully you can see how divine they are!

I won the black one and the one just above on Ebay...I can never seem to get a bargain on there these days....but with these I did!

Blondie's head was falling off a bit...and not being very 'up there' with doll restoration, I stuck her head back on with E6000 glue...gosh that stuff is good!...she needs a little wash, especially her feet and hair...but its her eyes that bowled me over! Isn't she just sooo pretty and cute!

The black one is so sweet too, I love that kind, especially without their hair, it has probably fallen off over time...but I love 'em like that...and to actually own a black one is brilliant...she is sooo pretty.

The red one I have had for a while now...I can't remember where I bought her...but I bet it was from a Bootsale or some Flea Market somewhere...I always think..I wonder what the owners are thinking, when I buy some of their unwanted goods! Because I am in my own little world, when I am out and about! Often talking to myself and chuckling away at the (what I think is cute and pretty) and sometimes I hear them saying! lol! OMG I never thought I would sell that!...hehehe!

I am having a little sale to make room for new items that will be added next week...

Please please please (do I sound desperate! lol)...buy some items from me, as I really do need the space.

My Craft Room/Dining Room (which I might add is in the center of the house!) looks like a bomb site...well anyone who crafts will realise the kind of mess that I am talking about!

...And I need more cupboard space to house all my new stock and makes ;)

Its the 29th of February...so I couldn't leave the day without marking it with a post....I have used my spare day well...I have made lots of items to go into my shop...I'll let you know when I add them...

Freddy went out for the day with Rosie...he hired a scooter at Bluewater, so he could get around easier...and leave me alone to create :)

When he came home he presented me with a couple of
Happy February the 29th pressie's from Cath Kidston...well you can hardly visit Bluewater without visiting the lovely ladies in her shop now can you!
