*Please note that this video is a re-upload, and it was filmed in October 2010 when I was only 4 months into my transition to natural hair*

This is a video update showing my progress back in October 2010 when I was just 4 months post relaxer. I chopped "test patches" that month in the back, sides, and top of my head. This video shows off the test patches on the side and back. There are tons of texture shots and video footage showing that hair in its curly state(If anyone knows my hair type...please let me know). Also, I then flat ironed my hair on Friday October 29th, and it looks fabulous straight as well. It is still in great shape despite going without a relaxer for nearly 5 months. Also, when my hair is straight, the "test patches" are completely hidden. I think I need a slight trim, but other than that...it looks healthy! My hair looks just as healthy as it did before I started my transition. Please be sure to watch the entire video. Texture shots of my curls and mini chop are at the beginning, and my flat ironed hair is near the end. There is a hair whipping montage...I couldn't resist...lol.

Rant of the Day: Lady GaGa, you were not "Born This Way!"

Lady Gaga is so extra! I liked her better like 4 years ago when she actually made music. Pelvic thrusting in bikini bottoms "bald eagle" is a no go. She was not "born this way." No one is born skanky, and desperate for attention...lol.I guess getting a fan base made her give up on who she really is. She was not this extra when she first came into the industry...ugh. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE individuality! I've been one to wear out of the box attire and etc. However, I just don't think she is being genuine. Her style was vastly different when she was a struggling musician. She seemed more real back in the day. Her music was better, and she looked um...normal. She now walks around with flesh toned horns sticking out of her forehead and outlandish get-ups. It's as if she took someone stoned on acid and said, "Hey...shape my image!" Her new video "Born this Way wreaks of desperation and is so weird that it is borderline creepy lol. I'm not sure what to think of her. I also think she is taking advantage of the GLBT community in order to get more publicity.

Another thing that rubs me the wrong way is her obvious rip off Madonna image. She has essentially taken Madonna's image, added a little more crazy, and then tried to use it as her own style. I'm sorry, but I know Madonna's "Express Yourself" when I hear it, and "Born This Way" is nothing more than a 2011 version of Madonna's hit song. When Gaga decides to become a real artist again, let me know. Until then, I will give this "lady", that's if she even is one...the side eye!

My "Oh Hello No!" Moment: Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment

Well...well...well! Okay, so I have been hearing about this protein vs. moisture thing for months now. For the most part, I thought my hair was equally balanced, but I am new to this so I wasn't completely sure. I've been using a lot of moisture rich products, so I thought...what the heck, maybe I should do a protein treatment. So a few months ago I tried Aphogee 2 minute protein treatment(which is a light treatment) and everything went fine! So a few days ago I got the "genius" idea to "kick it up a notch" and try an even harder protein treatment...the infamous Aphogee 2 Step protein treatment. This stuff has been known to make chemically treated and damaged hair bounce back to perfect health. It has also been known to make healthy hair fall out..yikes! Now, I don't have any damage. However, I DO have relaxed ends left on my head, so I thought a nice protein treatment would help keep my ends strong. Especially since I am a long term transitioner, and I need to keep those bad boys around until I am ready to cut them off. But anywho, so I tried the treatment a few days ago, and it led to a major "Oh hello no!" moment! This is how it went down...

It was a pretty simple procedure. I washed my hair as normal with Aussie moist 2 in 1 shampoo, and then applied the Aphogee 2 step to my wet hair. The treatment was very runny and I had to use 2 packs on my hair. OMG, it was soooooooo funky too! It smelled like pickled pig's feet mixed with dog poop, vomit, and spoiled milk. Yes...it was that bad! But I pushed on through it for the sake of beauty. Once I applied the product, I got under the hooded hair dryer for about 45 minutes to an hour. The treatment dried VERYYYYY hard. It was LITERALLY as hard as cement, and you could probably knock on it. My hair definitely felt like something other than hair...it was weird. In fact, it was so hard, that touching it could cause the strands to break in two.

I then rinsed the product out in the shower only to find that it left my hair feeling horrible! I certainly had an "Oh hell no!" moment right then and there lol! My hair felt very hard, but I thought that doing a moisture treatment would bring it back to normal. So I immediately did the Aphogee moisture treatment that came with the protein treatment. The moisture treatment did NOTHING for my hair. It still felt like crap! So I then tried a doing an extreme moisture treatment by Ion(which smelled like heaven btw). I left the Ion treatment on for a few hours, and only to rinse it out and discover that it also did nothing for my hair. My hair was still just as hard as it was immediately after the protein treatment. I then decided to use my staple product, Aussie 3 minute miracle deep conditioner. This product has never failed me, and it leaves my hair feeling like silk everyyyyy time. Well, that didn't work either! I decided to just detangle my hair the best I could and move on.

Detangling was HORRIBLE! My hair was so tangled and etc. It was never like this before! I can normally comb it with my fingers and be good to go in less than two minutes flat. This time it took like 5 minutes or more to comb through, and it still wasn't fully detangled. I also lost a lot of hair trying to comb through it. I was going to just wear my hair in a wet bun, but my curls were not themselves. They were hard, shriveled and dry looking lol. I then decided that the best way to style it was to just flat iron it. Whew!

So, I flat ironed it and it has been okay since. It feels a bit more "textured" than normal, but looks nice in this state. I will NEVER do another Aphogee 2 step treatment again. I guess my hair just doesn't need hard core protein like that. I will probably have to do several deep conditioning moisture treatments in the future to get my hair balanced again...sigh! I will keep you all posted on how this goes on my next wash day!

Chris Brown Goes Blonde!!

They say blondes have more fun. While I am not sure I agree with that phrase, singer Chris Brown seems to be taking the bleached look for a test run. The singer tweeted a photo of himself today rocking his new golden locks.

Since posting the tweet, people have started to compare his new look to Sisqo. You know, the "has been" who had that song called "Thong Song." Well, it is hard to tell what Chris looks like simply from this one picture, but I actually think I'm going to go against the grain and say I like this look. Of course I will need to see other pics of it before I make my final judgment, but based off this photo it doesn't look bad to me. We shall see what it looks like as more pictures float to the surface though. But for now, I grant this look...APPROVED. What do you guys think???

Nude Lipstick for Brown and Dark Skin Tones...

I know I have been M.I.A for a while, but I'm back with a fun tutorial. If you are anything like me, you probably have a hard time finding the perfect lipstick. I love heavily pigmented shades, and it is really hard to find one that meets my expectations. So, for the past few years, I have mostly made my own lipstick instead! I have purchased some store brands, but I loveeee my custom shades. This is a fun little project that can be made with most items you have just lying around the house. If you are looking to get rid of some of your eye shadows, blushes, or bronzers...then this is the perfect project for you. Don't Call it a Comeback...Box Braids

It was the hottest hair trend in the 90's. Brandy had me wanting to be down, and Janet(Ms. Jackson if ya' nasty) had everyone seeking poetic justice. I have spent the past few months drooling over box braids (and dreadlock extensions). And it seems like I'm not alone, in loving the braided up look! In fact, box braids are apparently on their way to making a major come back. Solange Knowles has recently been spotted rocking some super long box braids. And the braid queen herself...Brandy Norwood has even gone back to rocking her bodacious box braids. I think I might have to give in to temptation and head down to my local braid shop stat...lol. This look will probably be great for the spring or even summer. Something, cute and low maintenance would be perfect for those (like myself) who are currently transitioning to natural hair. Heck, even if you aren't transitioning, this would still be a great protective style. I'm so happy to see textured styles making a comeback! So here's my question for you guys. Do you think box braids are ready for a comeback? Would you be bold enough to rock them??

Hello heartbreakers! I am back with two special announcements.

Announcement# 1:
As some of you already know...I loveee music. I have predicted the rise of many music greats before they even blew up or had record deals. I swear...I should be a talent scout or something because I would make a killing discovering stars. With that in mind, I would like to announce a new addition to my blog! I will now add a weekly post called "Feature Artist of the Week." I plan to share a new artist every week that I feel has the "it factor" and will def go places in the industry. Some posts will include interviews with the artists, others will simply include info about them and why they rock! These artists will range from unsigned and undiscovered to people who are up and coming performers with record deals. I will occasionally talk to "big name" artists who I feel deserve more "shine" in the industry as well.

Announcement# 2:
I will work harder within the next few weeks to add more of my Youtube videos to this site because I would like for them to become more connected. With that said, I will be doing a weekly video segment called "Reality Roundup." In the segment... I will basically give my take on all of the top reality shows of the week. This show will be similar to E! News or talk soup...something along those lines. I will be sure to post those videos here weekly for you all to enjoy!

Birthornot.com: Couple Creates Internet Poll on Whether or Not They Should Abort

Abortion is normally a sensitive subject, and many couples choose to handle the matter privately. Well, one couple is stepping outside of the norm and relying on the public to help them decide whether or not they should abort their 17 week old fetus/baby. That's right, abortion has now become like a reality show and the public gets to vote on who makes it to the next round. Peter and Alisha Arnold have created the website www.birthornot.com where they have given a detailed description of their personal situation and why they are contemplating abortion. Their site features a simple poll which asks, "Should we give birth or have an abortion?" The two options are "give birth" and "have an adoption" but people are offering far more advice than that. People seem to be furious with the couple, and others are just desperate to "save" the baby in question. Some have even offered to adopt the baby from the couple. So far, they have received 189,798 votes. Nearly 68 percent of those votes were in favor of the "give birth" option. The couple will close the poll on December 7th, and they claim December 9th is the last day their state will allow them to legally have an abortion.

I'm not so sure what to think about this story. I mean, it seems as if the couple's reasons for contemplating abortion(which are listed on their site) aren't really all that logical. I mean, they are gushing...posting ultrasound pictures and everything as if they will keep the child, yet they still have "questions." The child is healthy and they have even nicknamed the baby boy "Wiggles." Part of me wonders if this could just be an internet hoax designed to bring awareness to abortion rights and etc, but I digress. Have a look, and decide for yourself....

Prince William is Getting Married....Who Cares??

Congrats are now in order for Prince William and his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton! The couple is now officially engaged and news of their engagement hit the internet this morning. We can expect the couple to wed in 2011.

But here is what I don't understand...people are going absolutely crazy over the announcement as if this wasn't expected or something. I mean, am I the only one who doesn't really understand what the big "whoopy" is about this announcement?? The couple has been dating for years, and quite frankly I think they should have gone official a long time ago. Didn't Kate get Beyonce's memo?? He should have "put a ring on it" years ago...lol. I mean, hooray for them and all, but this is not anything I would consider to be earth-shattering news. We all knew it was coming eventually, and they probably had a secret engagement all this time anyway. It's just stale and played out to me. Personally, I am not looking forward to watching their wedding(as it will probably be broadcast on national television), and I'm over it. What I'm interested in is how quickly Kate will get pregnant after they tie the knot. I'm guessing she will suddenly become "preggers" within the first 6 months of marriage, and then they will make a big deal about that too...gag me! At any rate, good luck to them and their predictable life and marriage.

Hair Is Sort of A Big Deal...

Okay folks, so here I am at midnight stressing over what to do with my hair. Let me explain...lol. I'm in the process of going natural, and have gone 5 months without a relaxer at this point. My hair is currently long and healthy, but I've been feeling the urge to big chop lately. Other times I feel the urge to just let it keep growing and wait until I have more new growth before chopping off my relaxed ends. I will have to come back later this week and fill you all in on my transition journey. I have tons of Youtube videos about it, but I haven't updated this blog with those links yet(sorry).

But anyway...I think for now I will buy a new lace front and then wear that for a while until I make up my mind on this whole cutting thing. I've never had short hair, so cutting it would be very traumatic. The beauty of being a woman...insert sarcasm here ;)

Danielle Evans:
She won America's Next top model a few years back, but this covergirl faced a tough dilemma. When she originally auditioned for the show, her gap was very large. She was a great contestant and Tyra told her to close her gap in order to win the competition. Well, Danielle did not want to close her gap because she felt like it was a big part of her identity. She eventually gave in and decided to make the gap smaller instead. As a result, Tyra chose her as the winner. While I think she has nice teeth now, I think they would have been better if she made the gap a bit larger than what it is in the picture above. It barely looks like she even has a gap now. Still, there is a slight gap there, so I thought she would be a nice asset to my list. She gets points for somewhat sticking to her guns and not completely closing her gap for Tyra. Although, with gaps being en vogue now, I have to wonder if she regrets making hers so small...

She is the star of the hit show "CSI" & it would be a crime to deny the awesomeness of her gap!

This Sports Illustrated model is doing more than bringing sexy back...she's bringing the gap back!

Here's the thing, there are tons of men in hollywood with gaps. I don't care to highlight them simply because they get enough coverage already. There is a double standard in society where men can walk around missing teeth, crooked teeth, or anything else without being ridiculed. However, women are held up to a "higher" standard of perfection. If women have the "flaws" they are told to correct them. Meanwhile...the men are given an Oscar. With that said, I'm not going to shine the light on all of them gappy male celebrities because their "beauty" is celebrated far more than the gappy women. People who shouldn't have "fixed" their gaps:

Demi Lovato:
This Disney star is pretty, but looked better with her gap. It is unfortunate that she caved in to the pressure to do well in Hollywood. She didn't need to have her teeth or anything else altered in my opinion. I think this sends a bad message to little girls who look up to her.

Keyshia Cole:
R&B sensation Keyshia Cole sported a small gap in the very beginning of her career. As soon as she blew up, she closed her gap. Of all the things to change...why the gap Keyshia...whyyyy???? I mean, she should have been more concerned with her tacky colorful weave and hoodrat demeanor. The gap was the least of her problems. I haven't really liked her since she got rid of the gap...lol. Her career has been going downhill, so maybe if she had her gap she would have better luck. Maybe she should pay her dentist a visit and get things reversed ;)

Gap Teeth are Back!

As some of you already know I have a "gappy" smile...lol. Well according to the Wallstreet Journal, gaps are now en vogue! They recently published an article where they exposed the industry's new obsession with hiring gap toothed models, actresses, and etc. Casting directors are now looking for people who have gap teeth. Some models are even getting cosmetic surgery to add gaps in between their front teeth or to widen their existing gaps. As crazy as it might sound, this is something I actually saw coming.

Here's the thing, some people have an obsession with straight teeth, but those of us on "the inside" know the truth...lol. Quite frankly, I have never felt like my gap held me back in life. Of course when I was younger(10 or so) some guys would crack jokes about my teeth. But as soon as I hit puberty, those same boys were hitting on me and telling me how beautiful I was...go figure. It has been this way for most of my life. If gaps are soooo bad, then why am I constantly the recipient of tons of compliments daily(from both men and women)? Whenever I even mention getting rid of my gap, people complain and tell me to keep it. Many "gappies" also mention that they've had the same experience. Guys have told them how beautiful their gaps are and they are complimented regularly on their gaping grin. I don't think people should get braces unless they have a problem that effects their speech or ability to eat properly. Personally, my gap is a part of me and I would never want to get rid of it. I think it is beautiful, and you would be surprised just how many people feel the same way.

After doing Bridezillas, I noticed that there were some hateful viewers online putting me down because of my smile. These women were just looking for something to be negative about because they have nothing better to do. Most of them were well overweight, single, and a sight for sore eyes. Here's the thing...if you are going to put others down at least have your act together. Teeth don't determine someones beauty in my opinion. If a person is attractive, they will be attractive regardless of their teeth. If Halle Berry, Megan Fox, and Gabrielle Union had gaps, they would all still be gorgeous. With that said, I am happy to see more gap toothed people in the media.

However, I will admit that I dislike my overbite and it must go. I say this because it does effect the way I chew my food, and it impacts my speech. While it is not the end of the world, and people love my slight lisp...it must be corrected. As a journalist, I need to sound crisp and clear. The lisp works for Drew Barrymore though. And if I weren't in this field, then I would probably love my lisp. I am currently in the process of preparing my teeth for braces(I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled before getting the braces put on).

These braces will fix my overbite/openbite, but I am dead set on keeping my gap...dead set! It will probably have to be made smaller once my teeth are pushed back into their proper place, but it will still be there. The dentists all think I'm crazy when I tell them that I don't want a "perfect" smile, but I could care less. The gap is here to stay, and thankfully others are now openly coming forward to celebrate the beauty of gaps. After all, it is a sign of power, wealth, and sex appeal. The gap was coveted hundreds of years ago. It is still a sign of sexiness in many cultures and countries all over the world. When hubby and I vacationed in Jamaica, everyone loved my gap. Probably because most of the people there had gaps too. Gaps seem to be a very common natural trait in the black community. While my gap was caused by finger sucking, there are people in my family that have natural gaps...big and small. It's a beautiful thing and "flaws" make us all perfectly imperfectly perfect.

Dog...I don't know you like that!

Hubby and I have been working out regularly for about two months now. Well, tonight we went for our usual jog, and things got ugly! We were going about our normal route, but hubby wanted to detour into an area that we normally don't walk through. I knew immediately that it wasn't going to end well! Why you ask...well because there was a dog in the distance. You see, I am not an "animal person." I am very picky about germs and dirty creatures crawling all over me and etc...lol. The dog was on a leash, and hubby ensured that he would stand beside me so the dog wouldn't be able to attack me if it somehow got loose. I decided to give in, and walk in that direction with the hopes that everything would be okay. Well, as soon as we got close to the family, they then decided to take the dog off of the leash! And wouldn't you know, the thing immediately ran away from it's owner and started charging towards me full speed ahead. It had a very evil and crazed look in it's eyes, as if it was on a mission to attack me! It didn't even go near my hubby, but instead ran straight to me! I saw my life flash before my eyes! All I could think about was the movie Cujo, and this dog's teeth were frighting! Hubby tried to get the dog away, but it wouldn't stop. It kept jumping on me and acting very crazed. It was almost like the dog was hopped up on Red Bull and steroids. The owners couldn't even control it! I kept screaming desperately at the owners, "get it away from me...I don't like dogs at all...someone please make it stop...HELP!" I tried to remain calm and stood still the entire time, partially out of shock, and partially because I thought it would calm the dog down.

I was so upset that the damn owners were not even running over to help. They kept saying, "Oh he won't bite," and etc. First off, how can they say what the dog won't do?? You can't predict when an animal is going to snap! And secondly, even if it wasn't going to bite me, I still feel very violated. The dog should have remained on a leash in the first place. The owners were acting as if it was no big deal for their dog to attack someone. However, I am the one who now feels violated. It infuriates me when pet owners take this sort of tone with me after their dog touches me. They then have the nerve to get offended because I am not comfortable with their dog touching me or coming too close. Pet owners need to realize that everyone isn't going to perceive Fido, the raging pit bull as cute and cuddly. People like myself want you to keep your filthy creatures within a reasonable distance. This means, I don't want them licking me, sniffing me, jumping on me, or even grazing me with their tails as they walk by...lol. Do us all a favor, and keep your animal on a leash.

Thanks for visiting my blog! My name is Martina, and I am just getting this blog set up. You might know me from America's # 1 wedding reality show, Bridezillas! My hubby and I were just featured on season 7 of the show last month! We were lucky enough to be the 100th episode...yay. But anywho, I'm more than a Bridezilla. In fact, that is only a small portion of who I really am. I am a wife, a daughter, a journalist, a creative writer, an actress, and more! You will find out more about me later though...haha.

But anyway, be prepared to join me on my crazy blogging journey! I am still working on my format, but I would like my blog to include videos and etc as well as written journals. I look forward to discussing everything from my experience as a reality TV star, and a journalist. Additionally, I will post reviews on various items and etc.. I am a very picky and opinionated person, so I look forward to sharing reviews on pretty much everything...lol. I will also blog about cooking, politics, travel, religion, celeb gossip, parenting, married life and pretty much whatever random thoughts pop into my extra large head...lol. I look forward to covering news, as I am a journalist in my personal life.

However, that will not be the main point of this blog. This blog is a celebration of my right to have an opinion on what is going on in the world around me, and I want to share my voice with others. Journalists are often told to silence their inner voice in order to provide balanced/fair reporting. I honor that code in my professional life, and never bring my personal views into a news story. However, this blog is my outlet...this blog is MY voice. We are all human, no matter our profession/career path. Therefore, I need an outlet to freely talk with others. I need to be free to express myself, and this is my place for that.

I love getting to know others, and having new experiences. Hopefully this blog will provide what I am looking for at this stage in my life. If you are a fan of the show "Bridezillas," then feel free to ask me what you want. I will be doing a Q & A blog about the show, so please send me your questions!
