Starting a home business is a very important decision, and there are some typical home business resources you will need to have in order for you to
succeed. Home business resources are assets, services and systems you will need to make your home business run smoothly; and also other steps
you will need to take to make sure that you will succeed with your business.

So, to start a successful home business, what resources and steps do you need to take?

*A clearly laid out business plan. Without a business plan and goals to achieve, then you can not get anywhere. A business plan will map out what
you need to succeed and how you will achieve your goals.

* Good research. Whatever your business will need, you will need to be well informed about it. So you will need to do me research so that you
become an expert on the niche, product or service. Knowledge about the business is an important home business resource, so you must do the
necessary research to be well-informed about the industry or product/service.

* A well set-up office. Your office is another important home business resource. You will need to be productive while working from home. You will therefore need an office that has all you will need to run a smooth business; a computer, printer, internet access, fax, telephone, business cards and a conducive work environment.

A suitable desk and appropriate lighting in your office is also an important resource that is often underestimated in its importance. You will sometimes work for many hours in a day, and your work space needs to be comfortable. Allocate some money towards setting up
a working environment you will enjoy working from everyday!

* Some money to cover capital outlay and running costs is an important home business resource which you will need. Any business requires some
form of investment, and you will need to know how much you have, and how much investments and ongoing marketing your business will need for it to succeed. It is therefore recommended that you start your business while you are still employed, so that you have some income to live on while you are still building your business.

* Support system. This can be a mentor; someone who has succeeded with a similar business, or simply your family and friends. You need to have
people close to you who will encourage you and give you any support you need. You can also join a forum of people with the same business like
yours. A good support network is a very important home business resource.

* Business leads and clients are a crucial home business resource. Making and creating contacts and networking is very important - you need to start
building your potential clients base before you launch your business. Start marketing your business by giving away some products and services.

By creating a relationship with your potential customers, you build trust with them, and when you launch your business, it will be easy for them to buy from you.

* Be professional! The way you run your business and relate to your customers is very important. Be prepared to 'go the extra mile' with your
customers. Care about your customers, and provide all the information they may need.

* Hire any professional help you may need. Treat your business professionally, and if you need the services of a lawyer or accountant, hire/outsource it. It is more productive and effective to get experts to do what you can not do, leaving you time to focus on your business. You will want to do the best for your business; so if there are any home business resources you do not have, outsource them.

In every bloggers life comes a special day - the day they first launch a new blog. Now unless you went out and purchased someone else''s blog chances are your blog launched with only one very loyal reader - you. Maybe a few days later you received a few hits when you told your sister, father, girlfriend and best friend about your new blog but that''s about as far you went when it comes to finding readers.

Here are the top 10 techniques new bloggers can use to find readers. These are tips specifically for new bloggers, those people who have next-to-no audience at the moment and want to get the ball rolling.

It helps if you work on this list from top to bottom as each technique builds on the previous step to help you create momentum. Eventually once you establish enough momentum you gain what is called "traction", which is a large enough audience base (about 500 readers a day is good) that you no longer have to work too hard on finding new readers. Instead your current loyal readers do the work for you through word of mouth.

Top 10 Tips

10. Write at least five major "pillar" articles. A pillar article is a tutorial style article aimed to teach your audience something. Generally they are longer than 500 words and have lots of very practical tips or advice. This article you are currently reading could be considered a pillar article since it is very practical and a good "how-to" lesson. This style of article has long term appeal, stays current (it isn’t news or time dependent) and offers real value and insight. The more pillars you have on your blog the better.

9. Write one new blog post per day minimum. Not every post has to be a pillar, but you should work on getting those five pillars done at the same time as you keep your blog fresh with a daily news or short article style post. The important thing here is to demonstrate to first time visitors that your blog is updated all the time so they feel that if they come back tomorrow they will likely find something new. This causes them to bookmark your site or subscribe to your blog feed.

You don''t have to produce one post per day all the time but it is important you do when your blog is brand new. Once you get traction you still need to keep the fresh content coming but your loyal audience will be more forgiving if you slow down to a few per week instead. The first few months are critical so the more content you can produce at this time the better.

8. Use a proper domain name. If you are serious about blogging be serious about what you call your blog. In order for people to easily spread the word about your blog you need a easily rememberable domain name. People often talk about blogs they like when they are speaking to friends in the real world (that''s the offline world, you remember that place right?) so you need to make it easy for them to spread the word and pass on your URL. Try and get a .com if you can and focus on small easy to remember domains rather than worry about having the correct keywords (of course if you can get great keywords and easy to remember then you’ve done a good job!).

7. Start commenting on other blogs. Once you have your pillar articles and your daily fresh smaller articles your blog is ready to be exposed to the world. One of the best ways to find the right type of reader for your blog is to comment on other people’s blogs. You should aim to comment on blogs focused on a similar niche topic to yours since the readers there will be more likely to be interested in your blog.

Most blog commenting systems allow you to have your name/title linked to your blog when you leave a comment. This is how people find your blog. If you are a prolific commentor and always have something valuable to say then people will be interested to read more of your work and hence click through to visit your blog.

6. Trackback and link to other blogs in your blog posts. A trackback is sort of like a blog conversation. When you write a new article to your blog and it links or references another blogger''s article you can do a trackback to their entry. What this does is leave a truncated summary of your blog post on their blog entry - it''s sort of like your blog telling someone else’s blog that you wrote an article mentioning them. Trackbacks often appear like comments.

This is a good technique because like leaving comments a trackback leaves a link from another blog back to yours for readers to follow, but it also does something very important - it gets the attention of another blogger. The other blogger will likely come and read your post eager to see what you wrote about them. They may then become a loyal reader of yours or at least monitor you and if you are lucky some time down the road they may do a post linking to your blog bringing in more new readers.

5. Encourage comments on your own blog. One of the most powerful ways to convince someone to become a loyal reader is to show there are other loyal readers already following your work. If they see people commenting on your blog then they infer that your content must be good since you have readers so they should stick around and see what all the fuss is about. To encourage comments you can simply pose a question in a blog post. Be sure to always respond to comments as well so you can keep the conversation going.

4. Submit your latest pillar article to a blog carnival. A blog carnival is a post in a blog that summarizes a collection of articles from many different blogs on a specific topic. The idea is to collect some of the best content on a topic in a given week. Often many other blogs link back to a carnival host and as such the people that have articles featured in the carnival often enjoy a spike in new readers.

3. Submit your blog to blogtopsites.com. To be honest this tip is not going to bring in a flood of new readers but it''s so easy to do and only takes five minutes so it''s worth the effort. Go to Blog Top Sites, find the appropriate category for your blog and submit it. You have to copy and paste a couple of lines of code on to your blog so you can rank and then sit back and watch the traffic come in. You will probably only get 1-10 incoming readers per day with this technique but over time it can build up as you climb the rankings. It all helps!

2. Submit your articles to EzineArticles.com. This is another tip that doesn’t bring in hundreds of new visitors immediately (although it can if you keep doing it) but it''s worthwhile because you simply leverage what you already have - your pillar articles. Once a week or so take one of your pillar articles and submit it to Ezine Articles. Your article then becomes available to other people who can republish your article on their website or in their newsletter.

How you benefit is through what is called your "Resource Box". You create your own resource box which is like a signature file where you include one to two sentences and link back to your website (or blog in this case). Anyone who publishes your article has to include your resource box so you get incoming links. If someone with a large newsletter publishes your article you can get a lot of new readers at once.

1. Write more pillar articles. Everything you do above will help you to find blog readers however all of the techniques I’ve listed only work when you have strong pillars in place. Without them if you do everything above you may bring in readers but they won’t stay or bother to come back. Aim for one solid pillar article per week and by the end of the year you will have a database of over 50 fantastic feature articles that will work hard for you to bring in more and more readers.

I hope you enjoyed my list of traffic tips. Everything listed above are techniques I’ve put into place myself for my blogs and have worked for me, however it''s certainly not a comprehensive list. There are many more things you can do. Finding readers is all about testing to see what works best for you and your audience and I have no doubt if you put your mind to it you will find a balance that works for you.

The Power of Positive Thinking

Although you can see that the glass is half-empty, you chose to see it in a positive way. It is still half-full, anyway. The absence of half of the volume of water didn’t even bother you. What mattered was that it still contains water. If this is how you answered the question above and how you justified your answer, then you have a positive way of thinking.

Positive thinking is a way of looking at the brighter side of life. Everything is good, beautiful, and light. There are no worries, problems, or fears. In short, all you see and believe in is, well, positive. I guess that’s already the most suitable word in describing this way of thinking, which is why it is the term being used.

This kind of thinking is very powerful in that if you think that you are going to pass an exam, you are going to pass; if you think that you’ll get noticed by your crush, you’ll get noticed; if you think you will get promoted at work, then you’ll get promoted. This is how powerful the mind is, particularly positive mind. Even the famous Clint Eastwood believes in this general truth that he quoted, “If you think it’s going to rain, it will.”

So, how does the power of positive thinking works? How can it create reality? Do we only have to think of positive things and then will it happen right away? That positive thinking really is powerful may be somehow hard to believe at first, that’s why we may ask certain questions like those above. Because the mind is working on the information you send it, positive thinking leads to positive reality. This is how it works. Yes, we do have to really think of positive things. But it doesn’t stop there.

Remember the ever-famous cliché “Do your best and God will do the rest”? You know, it’s true. Aside from believing in and having faith in something we want to happen, we have to do something about it. You can’t ace an exam just by sitting on the couch and watching TV days before taking it, can you?

Let us take into account again the computer as a metaphor of the human mind. The mind is like a computer, this time due to the fact that we can program it with certain functions and tasks. Sometimes, it even acts as our autopilot. For instance, we use it when we drive and talk on a mobile phone at the same time. Therefore, we can program it with whatever we want to happen.

Say, for example, you want to be attractive. Thus, you say to yourself “I can be beautiful, healthy and slim.” But for this positive thinking to work, you can’t just leave it at that. You still need to do something. You need the right self-programming: “I can be beautiful, healthy, and slim if… (a) I’ll take enough rest every night; (b) I’ll eat proper balance diet; (c) I’ll do exercises; (d) I’ll brush my teeth every after meal; etc.” And if all these thoughts sink into your system, you’ll see that they wouldn’t be far from happening.

Mind power implies will power. With positive thinking, one does not stop with I can or I am. There will always be an I will after it in which it will cause the realization of his aspirations.

Positive thinking is a powerful tool that helps us build the life we want. It can make us beautiful and smart. It can get us the dream job with the excellent salary we always dreamed of. It can help us find our one true love. But we have to use them properly and we have to continue working with them regularly - to the point where it becomes such a habit that we ought to say them all the time. Isn’t it better maintaining such thoughts than keeping worthless ideas inside our head – the stuff we keep thinking about but doesn't really help us accomplish anything and, in many cases, may actually push us backwards?

We should also understand that some affirmations take some time to take effect. It really depends on where we are and what we want to accomplish. For example, if you're unemployed yet want to be a millionaire, well, in reality, it will take quite some time. You have to get a job first, and from there, start making the big money and earn the millions you want. Successes usually not happen overnight. So the first step is to focus on how we can accomplish our goal. If we are on the right place, plus we possess the right attitude, then it won’t be too far.

That can happen for you, and I have great news for you! You are about to learn how to find your Niche, how to be the Expert that your Niche trusts, how to develop products for your Niche - products they’ll buy, and how do design your marketing to fit your Niche.

Only a few business owners using the secrets I’m about to share with you. They know what their Niche is and they do everything they can to “own” that Niche. That is, to be known as the Expert, so clients come to them, and they have a loyal following of customers who come back to them and buy valuable information time after time.

As you read these steps, I would suggest that you make notes. I also recommend that you start a folder called “Riches Are Niches” and put this article and all the notes and information you find about Niches in it. That way you have all the information in one place, and can work with it much more easily as you define your own Niche.

Finding your Niche means you are matching your expertise with a group of people you love to work with, who have the challenges you solve, and who can afford to pay you.

A Niche is a specific group within your target audience and clients. For example, a business that provides marketing services may have a target audience of “business owners” because business owners always want to get more clients. “Business owners” is a very large, broad category—too broad to focus on as your customers.

A Niche within “business owners” is “business owners who are speakers” or “business owners of companies that have been in business at least 3 years” or “business owners of companies who want million-dollar businesses”.

Action Steps:

Answer these questions to start identifying your Niche:

1. Who are you? For example, what is your Brilliance? What do you love to do? What do you do easily? What energizes you? What do people come to you for—advice, resources, positive thinking, and getting things done?

2. Who do you want to work with? People who do what they say? Follow up? Pay on time, gratefully? Are committed to making changes? Are easy to work with? What is their age? Family situation? A transition they’re in?

3. Who can afford to pay you? What is their income level? Seasonal? Your fees may be a tax deduction for a business owner—check with your accountant. Business owners often invest in their businesses and ways to improve it.

If so, it's a sign that you don't love marketing and selling. It may also mean you don't have a Niche, or you don't have a Niche of people you love to work with. You're not alone.

Do you find that marketing and selling seems to slip to the bottom of your To-Do list every week? That there are always other “better” things to do—people to see, places to go, things to do?

If so, it’s a sign that you don’t love marketing and selling. It may also mean you don’t have a Niche, or you don’t have a Niche of people you love to work with. You’re not alone. And you don’t have to change who you are to build the business and earn the income you want—you simply have to learn how to find a Niche.

Your Niche is a specific group of people and businesses you enjoy working with, who have challenges that you can solve, they want those challenges solved, and they can afford to pay you for your products and services. They could be consumers, businesses, non-profit organizations, government agencies or schools or education-related organizations.

For example, if your expertise is in “motivating employees to work at their peak performance level”, a Niche for you might be “employees in the healthcare industry” rather than “employees” in general. Or your Niche might be “employees in marketing departments of consulting companies”.

With a Niche, you are providing solutions to a specific group of people who really want and will pay for your products and services. You’re making your solutions more targeted and can deliver them in a laser-beam focus to a group of people who really want and benefit from your knowledge. Successful leading experts own a Niche. You can’t be the leading expert for “everyone”.

Why is a Niche so important? And what does having a Niche really do for you?

It simplifies your life and your marketing, and increases your income. When you’re recognized as a leading expert in your field, clients and the media call you - you don’t spend a lot of your time selling. And when your Niche sees you as an Expert, they’ll pay more for your products and services.

Let’s take a real-life example. One of my colleagues is a Virtual Assistant and provides services to business owners. Her services are appropriate for various types of businesses and their owners, including speakers, authors, coaches, consultants, free-lance writers and trainers. When we first met, she was trying to market to all of these groups at the same time. Now she’s focusing on one Niche right now - speakers. And in her Elevator Speech she tells people that her specialty is speakers. Since she’s started focusing on speakers, 1) she gets many more referrals than she used to, 2) she knows the challenges of speakers better, since she talks to them all the time, and 3) she’s increased her income dramatically. Because she now focuses on a Niche, she understands the challenges that speakers face, since she talks to them all the time. And that means she can design services specifically to solve those challenges. Speakers gladly hire her because they know she’s the Expert in this area. She’s known as the Virtual Assistant for Speakers.

A key success strategy for marketing your business and becoming known as a leading Expert in your area is writing articles for ezines and newsletters. It’s much, much easier to find publications to submit your articles to when you pick a Niche. For example, let’s use the same real-life example. When my colleague looks up ezines and newsletters to send her article to, she used to look up “business owners”. There are thousands of publications for “business owners”, and she didn’t know where to start.

Now, with her Niche - Speakers—she still finds many ezines and newsletters for “speakers”. However, it’s a manageable number, and she now spends her time sending her articles out rather than deciding which of thousands of newsletters she wants to submit them to.

And when these speakers read her articles and call her, she has a program, answers and examples of how other speakers get more speaking engagements. So they know she’s “the Expert”.

Action Steps:

1. Start a folder called My Niche. Put it in a place where it’s handy and you can look at it and add to it over the next few weeks. Take 3 sheets of paper, and put these headings on each: -- My Niche - Who I like to work with - for example, Accountants, Business Owners, men and women between the ages of 30 and 45, bright savvy executives, etc. Be specific!—What people in my Niche do - job title, work they do, leisure activities, etc.—Challenges that people in my Niche face, and really, really want to solve. Start making your lists, and write everything you can think of that goes on each one. You’re looking for the ones that they’ll do almost anything and pay almost anything to solve.

2. Take time every week and every chance you get to search the Internet, publications, newspapers, colleagues, books, and any resources you think of. Find out what people in your Niche are like. Find out about their challenges. For example, act as if you’re one of the people in your Niche - a manager who wants a promotion, or someone who’s stressed out and wants to make changes. Search Google for solutions. Look at the headlines on magazines. Go to a large newsstand and look at all the magazines that are out there now. These all give you clues. Find professional and leisure organizations that your Niche may belong to or participate in. All these give you clues to the challenges they face.

3. Know your Niche so well that you give them a name and cut a picture of them out of a magazine. Give them a personality. Keep adding to the information on all your lists.

It can be complicated, but armed with some of the more important issues you will be able to avoid the more common pitfalls. So, before you sign up, consider these questions:

The time to ask questions is before you join an affiliate program. Especially, for those that charge fees or other miscellaneous costs. Do a little research about the choices of programs. Will it cost you anything to join? Most affiliate programs being offered today are free of charge. So why settle for those that charge you some dollars before joining, unless there is a crystal clear benefit for the investment.

When do they issue commission checks? Every program is different. Some issue their checks once a month, every quarter, etc. Select the one that is suited to your payment time choice. Many affiliate programs are setting a minimum earned commission amount that an affiliate must meet or exceed in order for their checks to be issued.

What is the hit per sale ratio? This is the average number of hits to a banner or text link it takes to generate a sale based on all affiliate statistics. This factor is extremely important because this will tell you how much traffic you must generate before you can earn a commission from the sale.

How are referrals from an affiliate’s site tracked and for how long do they remain in the system? You need to be confident on the program enough to track those people you refer from your site. This is the only way that you can credit for a sale.

The period of time that those people stay in the system is also important. This is because some visitors do not buy initially but may want to return later to make the purchase. Know if you will still get credit for the sale if it is done some months from a certain day.

What kind and type of affiliate stats available? Your choice of affiliate programs should be capable of offering detailed stats. They should be available online anytime you decide to check them out.

Constantly checking your individual stats is important. To know how many impressions, hits and sales are generated from your site is critical data. Impressions are the number of times the banner or text link was viewed by a visitor of your site. A hit is the one clicking on the banner or text links.

Does the affiliate program also pay for hits and impressions besides the commissions on sales? It is important that impressions and hits are also paid, as this will add to the earnings you get from the sales commission. This is especially important if the program you are in offers low sales to be able to hit ratio.

Who is the online retailer? Find out whom you are doing business with to know if it is really a solid company. Know the products they are selling and the average amount they are achieving. The more you know about the retailer offering you the affiliate program, the easier it will be for you to know if that program is really for you and your site.

Is the affiliate a one tier or two tier program? A single tier program pays you only for the business you yourself have generated. A two tier program pays you for the business, plus it also pays you a commission on the on the sales generated by any affiliate you sponsor in your program. Some two-tier programs are even paying small fees on each new affiliate you sponsor. More like a recruitment fee.

Lastly, what is the amount of commission paid? 5% - 20% is the commission paid by most programs. .01% - .05% is the amount paid for each hit. If you find a program that also pays for impressions, the amount paid is not much at all. As you can see from the figures, you will now understand why the average sales amount and hit to sale ratio is important.
