As Hercolubus gets closer its powerful magnetic field is interacting stronger with the Sun magnetic grid, and then it reacts with big flares.

A sample was the massive solar flare, the strongest so far this year, erupted yesterday from the same active region that triggered a solar storm earlier in the week.

The eruption occurred at 1:37 EST (1837 GMT). The explosion also produced a spectacular coronal mass ejection (CME). This movie from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory shows the cloud racing away from the sun at 2500 km/s or 5.6 million mph.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) inform that it was an X1.7-Class Flare, and X-Class flares are the most powerful type of solar storm.

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the extreme ultraviolet flash.

The eruption created a spectacular coronal mass ejection (CME), but fortunately the flare did not occur while the active sun region 1402 was facing the Earth. If it was come toward us, Internet would not work today.

We were very lucky this time because if an X-class flare occurs in the direction of the Earth, it would disrupt power grids, and that means that nothing would work.

Analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab say the CME raced away from the sun at 2500 km/s or 5.6 million miles per hour. Though the CME is not heading for the Earth, it is too soon to rule out that it may affect the Earth today.

Energetic protons accelerated by the blast are now surrounding our planet and an S2-class radiation storm is now in progress, and it can affect spacecraft and satellites, for instance, this coronagraph image from SOHO is clouded by protons hitting SOHO's onboard digital camera.

Doug Biesecker, physicist at NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center, said “The coronal mass ejection seems to be headed well away from Earth, which is good because this one seems like a bigger beast than the last one, but that's still preliminary."

Be ready because Sun's present activity is increasing and NASA expects it is going to peak to a maximum in 2013.

In other words, NASA calculates that the Hercolubus approaching will trigger a monster Solar Flare toward us soon.

NOAA experts available for interviews

NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center – the nation’s official source of warnings and alerts about space weather and its impacts on Earth – has issued a watch for a geomagnetic storm associated with a bright flare on the sun Sunday evening. The storm could arrive Tuesday morning, with possible impacts to navigation, the power grid and satellites.

Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) forecasters have also issued a warning for ongoing "strong" solar radiation storming. Radiation storms are a concern for astronauts, communications at high latitudes, satellites in space and rocket launches. Geomagnetic storms (G-scale) and solar radiation storms(S-scale) range from 1 (minor) to 5 (extreme).

NOAA’s space weather experts are available to discuss this event, which represents the strongest radiation storm in more than six years, and potential impacts.

Associated with Sunday’s flare was a “coronal mass ejection,” a burst of charged particles and magnetic field that streamed out from the sun at about four million miles an hour. The coronal mass ejection (CME) is heading toward Earth. NOAA’s SWPC predicts it will trigger onset of a geomagnetic storm on Tuesday morning EST, with storm intensity likely to be moderate (G-2), possibly strong (G-3).

So if the US Government is warning clearly that tomorrow a Solar flare can impact in power grids, it means that we could have a general catastrophe tomorrow.

I do not know if tomorrow will be all blocked, but I am sure that it is going to happen in short time, because the Hercolubus approaching is going to trigger every time more monster Flares from our Sun.

Analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab confirm that a large Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is heading for Earth, and they say strong geomagnetic storms are possible when the cloud arrives this weekend. Their forecast track predicts an impact on Jan. 21st at 22:30 UT (+/- 7 hrs).

Days later images released by NASA Earth Observatory show that the underwater explosion has created a new island in between the Rugged and Haycock islands.

A NASA spokesman said: “The Advanced Land Imager on NASA’s Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite captured these high-resolution, natural-color images on December 23, 2011, and October 24, 2007.”

“The image from December 2011 shows an island where there had previously been an unbroken water surface.”

“A thick plume rises from the island, dark near the bottom and light near the top, perhaps a mixture of volcanic ash and water vapor.”

At least 23 people have died in floods after unusually heavy rains hit Tanzania's main city of Dar es Salaam.

The Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) has warned that the downpours are set to continue and has told those living in the city's valleys to move.

The BBC's Aboubakar Famau in Dar es Salaam says the city's business activities have come to a standstill.

Several major roads linking the centre of the city’s business districts to the suburbs are flooded and some bridges have been destroyed.

According to TMA, these are the heaviest rains Tanzania has experienced since independence in 1961.

Hundreds of people living in the city's valleys have been left homeless.

The floods seem to have caught many by surprise.

Taabu Kibwa said her whole house was covered by water.

"We have lost all our properties, in fact we are left with empty hands. Everything in the house has been lost including television sets and refrigerators," she said.

"I have three children, one of whom I don't even know where he is."

Another resident, Shaaban Ramadhan Hussein, said he worked and lived in his home which was now under water.

"Everywhere is flooded, people are on top of their house roofs, and no rescue has come so far. We are not happy, it is like the government doesn't care about us," he said.

The government has set up 12 centers to temporarily accommodate an estimated 5,000 people displaced by the floods.

There is little chance of them relocating to their home villages or regions before the festive season because the weather agency has cautioned that the rains are not going away.

"We have been having heavy rainfall the day before yesterday, yesterday and today - we will therefore have more floods," said Agness Kijazi, TMA's director.

Fishermen spotted 20-30 meter fountains of lava near Saba Island, one of the Al-Zubair archipelago small Islands located 30 nautical miles away if Salif city. Fishermen said this was the first volcano they ever seen in the region.

The last eruption happened in 1824.

A sample is the massive tropical storm Washi that swept today across Philippines unleashing mammoth floods across vast areas that left 440 people dead and nearly 200 missing, relief workers said.

Typhoon Washi, with winds gusting up to 90km/h (56 mph), hit the resource-rich island of Mindanao late Friday, bringing heavy rain that also grounded some domestic flights and left wide areas without power, triggering flash floods and landslides.

"The death toll might still rise because there are still a lot of missing people," said Gwendolyn Pang, secretary-general of the PNRC.

100,000 people had to flee their homes.

She said the hardest-hit areas were in the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro.

Iligan mayor Lawrence Cruz described rampaging floodwaters from swollen rivers that swamped up to a quarter of the land area of the city of 100,000.

"It's the worst flood in the history of our city," Mr. Cruz told GMA television.”

"It happened so fast, at a time when people were fast asleep."

Television pictures showed dramatic pictures of a family escaping out of the window of their home in the town as the flood waters rose, and rescue workers in orange vests shepherding survivors to safety. Water levels rose three feet in less than an hour, forcing thousands on to their rooftops to try to escape.

“Mindanao was rarely visited by storms”, Benito Ramos, head of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said

Marlyn Manos, an Iligan resident, recounted how she and her children watched in terror from their rooftop as the floodwaters swallowed up the neighborhood.

"All the small houses behind ours were destroyed, and many of my neighbors are missing," she said.

Eric Carillo, other Iligan resident, said heavy rain started late on Friday but his family, who emerged alive from the floods, were not unduly alarmed and did not seek higher ground.

"I've been around for 47 years and this was the worst flooding I have ever experienced," he added.

Iligan tourism officer Pat Noel said waters began rising shortly before midnight on Friday (local time) as people slept, sweeping and their inhabitants along the riverbanks.

"Many of them told me they sought refuge on their rooftops," he said after joining the first wave of rescuers at daybreak.

Two of the three rivers that flow into the port of Iligan had overflowed, he added, and a popular radio commentator was among those killed.

"What happened was beyond the expectation of the public," said the civil defense official, Minda Morante.

Weather forecasters said the eye of the storm passed close to the southern tip of the central island of Negros on Saturday morning. Winds reached speeds as high as 104.6 kilometers per hour.

It was expected to hit the western island of Palawan on Saturday night after crossing the Sulu Sea.

The driver of this red car got the shock of her life when her vehicle plunged into a giant sink hole as she drove along a busy city street.

The woman was making her way across an intersection in Manchester, New Hampshire, when the ground opened up beneath her.

Her car became stuck in the sink hole as water began shooting into the air, catapulting several large boulders out of the ground.

About 200ft of road at the intersection of North and Beech streets collapsed.

Firemen worked to remove the car, with the driver still stuck inside, from the sinkhole.

The woman was uninjured but shaken up. Firemen reported that during the rescue water began to surge around the car, causing her to panic.

Lt Dan O'Rourke said: 'She was still in the car, and the water was bubbling over the left side of the car, so we went on the right side.

'So, we stood on top of that drain and carried her and her bags out of the car, over the concrete and over to here to safety.'

The vehicle's front tires first became trapped in the hole before the entire vehicle sank a few feet underground as 'the whole street fell in', one eyewitness said.

Police said the woman thought she was about to drive through a large puddle in the moments leading up to the incident.

Firemen eventually removed the vehicle from its underground tomb three-and-a-half hours after the accident.

They had to take extra care because the car sat atop a gas line.

Between 25 and 30 homes had their water supply disrupted.

A sample is the strong earthquake with magnitude 7.3 on the Richter scale that hit the eastern region of Papua New Guinea at 1.04 pm today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department said in a statement that the epicenter of the quake was 216 km northwest of Port Moresby and 3,445 km southeast of Kunak, Sabah.

This quake has struck near Papua New Guinea’s second major city, Lae.

The earthquake struck about 89 kilometers southwest of Lae at a depth of around 115 kilometers.

Early reports indicate damage to infrastructure and buildings in the city however reports from the mountainous interior near the quake’s epicenter are yet to filter in.

A journalist in Lae, Oseah Philemon, says the quake appeared to last about two minutes.

“I can confirm that homes have also reported glass and plates etc all falling off the shelves and breaking. It was a very strong earthquake. I was on the road and I felt the car swaying and I thought there must be a problem with the tyres. So then I pulled up and, lo and behold, right next to me I could see the power pole was just swinging.”

“It was very, very big,” said Dolly Kinibo, a receptionist at the Lae International Hotel.

“It lasted for two to three minutes. The whole building moved. The Christmas tree moved, we all moved, people are very shaken”.

The quake sent goods flying from the shelves of Lae’s Foodmart store. “It wrecked some displays and caused some damage to the ceiling,” said store manager Albert Martinez.

The quake was felt strongly in both the capital Port Moresby, 216 kilometers to the south, and in Madang on the northern coast.

A sample is the 6.7 magnitude earthquake that struck today in Mexico's western Guerrero state, shaking buildings and causing panic in the capital and the Pacific resort of Acapulco.

At least three people were killed in the quake. According to Guerrero's Civil Protection agency, an 11-year-old boy was killed when a house's roof collapsed; a second died in the small town of Ixcateopan and the driver of a cargo truck was killed by rocks that fell on the vehicle driving on the toll highway linking Acapulco with Mexico City.

The epicenter of the quake was located about 42 km southwest of Iguala in Guerrero and about 166 km south-southwest of Mexico City, with a depth of 61.3 km.

High-rises swayed in the centre of Mexico City for more than a minute, and shoppers were temporarily herded out of some shopping centers until the danger passed.

When the quake happened, panicked residents ran out of buildings and gathered in the streets. Some people began to cry and pray. The quake also interrupted public traffic and subway in Guerrero.

Marcelo Ebrard, mayor of Mexico City, said by Twitter that "there is power cut in part of the city." 70,000 residents are affected.

"People freaked out standing in middle of the street after tonight's strong quake in Mexico City," reporter Daniel Hernandez described on his Twitter account.

As Hercolubus is getting very close, NASA start to leak confidential information.

NASA's Kepler mission has confirmed its first planet in the "habitable zone," the region where there is liquid water on a planet’s surface.

The planet is about 2.4 times the radius of Earth.

The newly confirmed planet, Kepler-22b orbits in the middle of the habitable zone of a star similar to our sun.

"This is a major milestone on the road to finding Earth's twin," said Douglas Hudgins, Kepler program scientist at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

Kepler discovers planets and planet candidates by measuring dips in the brightness of more than 150,000 stars to search for planets that cross in front, or "transit," the stars. Kepler requires at least three transits to verify a signal as a planet.

"Fortune smiled upon us with the detection of this planet," said William Borucki, Kepler principal investigator at NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Calif., who led the team that discovered Kepler-22b. "The first transit was captured just three days after we declared the spacecraft operationally ready. We witnessed the defining third transit over the 2010 holiday season."

Kepler-22b is located 600 light-years away. Its orbit of 290 days around a sun-like star resembles that of our world. The planet's host star belongs to the same class as our sun, called G-type, although it is slightly smaller and cooler.

This discovery will be published in The Astrophysical Journal.

The Kepler team is hosting its inaugural science conference at Ames Dec. 5-9, announcing 1,094 new planet candidate discoveries. Since the last catalog was released in February, the number of planet candidates identified by Kepler has increased by 89 percent and now totals 2,326. Of these, 207 are approximately Earth-size, 680 are super Earth-size, 1,181 are Neptune-size, 203 are Jupiter-size and 55 are larger than Jupiter. The findings are based on observations conducted from May 2009 to September 2010.

The Kepler team has applied a stricter definition of what constitutes a habitable zone, NASA said.

And they have published the following diagram:

1- A NASA diagram telling clearly that Mars and Venus are habitable, in other words, that they must have life.

2 - The Kepler Team informs that have discovered 55 planets larger than Jupiter, the largest in our solar system. Obviously one of them is Hercolubus.

According to The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the data autumn and November have been both warmer than average in the United States

During November, the eastern half of the country experienced above-average temperatures. The warmest temperature anomalies, which is the actual temperature compared to the 20th century average, occurred across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast, with13 states across these areas having November temperatures among their 10 warmest on record.

Cooler-than-average temperatures were present across parts of the West and Northwest, with six states having November temperatures below average.

Precipitation during November was variable from region to region. Several storm systems brought above-average precipitation to the Ohio Valley and parts of the South, where eight states had precipitation totals ranking among their 10 wettest.

Below-average precipitation was observed across parts of the West, and parts of the northern and southern United States. Minnesota tied its ninth driest November on record, with only 0.35 inch of precipitation – 0.95 inch below average.

As of November 29, about six percent of the contiguous United States remained in the worst category of drought, called D4 or exceptional drought, a decrease from the nearly 9 percent at the beginning of the month. Drought conditions lessened across Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma, where there was above-normal precipitation during November.

The 2011 North Atlantic hurricane season ended on November 30, after an above-average season for the basin. This year’s 19 named storms tied with three other years (2010, 1995, and 1887) as the third busiest season on record. Seven of the named storms became hurricanes, which is near average. Only Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Irene made landfall in the United States.

A large and powerful extratropical cyclone slammed into western Alaska in early November, with extremely high tides, strong winds, heavy rain, and blizzard conditions. Winds gusted to over 80 mph and the storm surge topped eight feet, marking the strongest storm to impact the region in decades.

A powerful Santa Ana windstorm whipped through mountain passes and canyons across the West and Southwest beginning on November 30 and continuing into December. The near-hurricane force winds were driven by the interaction between a strong high pressure system in the northwest and a low pressure system moving through the southwest. Portland, Ore., recorded its second highest maximum atmospheric pressure reading (30.76”) ever.
