42nd Luaua birthday

It was indeed a day worth remembering. I just turned 42 years old two days ago. Before that day I was busy preparing from theme to the food I wanted to served for my friends. I wanted something colorful and unique. When I posted some invitation on social network my friends get surprise and stress out .They were thinking of what will they wear since it comes with theme not familiar with them. I took time to go to a bookstore just to buy the materials I needed. I am so exhausted but I find it so enjoying. I am so excited .

When the day comes it was indeed so colorful. My cupcakes are all layered in three. I place two candles with 42 on it. Some starfish decorations.

Instead of placing some fruit bowl.I made some fruit basket. All in yellow fruit color. Fresh fruits on the stick. I place some dipping for others to enjoy. On the other side, I place also some sticky rice with some colorful toppings and a slice of mango on a cup. My friends thought it is some ice cream. I said " a twist of something old".

I also prepared some prizes to give especially for the most Luau girl for the day. The winner is Rachel, a teacher by profession. I really appreciated her very much for really taking time to dress up for the occasion.She really spice up the day with her Hawaiian attire.

We end the day with some dancing and singing. We enjoyed the rest of the day. It was a day to remember. I also ask my friends to put some wishes on my log

Pizza Eater Frenzy

A friend of mine just arrived from the USA. She wanted to treat the group with some pizza. I don’t usually go out late night. I used to staying home with friends over. But this one is different a big pizza with friends in four different flavour. I find it so amusing we had it during Cj’s birthday last year. This one is bigger its size 36’inches. We took the picture in front so that we can enjoy eating it. When the pizza arrived all of us seems to be thinking .Can we really consume all of it?

We dig in and enjoy the moment. We enjoyed the night with all memory recalling of our high school life. We shared some jokes we used to laughed at. The night ended with all the pizza gone. But we continue to share stories and crushes we had before. Reunions indeed are nice to have once in a while. Especially friends coming from out of the country. We may meet someday and in different place and time. Laughing and sharing some jokes and blessings will always be there.

Delightful dessert

During December there seems to be plenty of food around you. I have lots of shopping to do and things to buy before Christmas day. So I decided to have a snack on the nearby store where I shop. So I was there looking for some snacks. I saw plenty of salads and so expensive. So I bought the ice cream with crispy banana wrapped with lumpia. We call it “ turon”. It was indeed locally made. Just to my amaze three scoops of different flavour of ice cream and two sticks of crispy banana. Some chocolate dips on the side on the plate to complete it. It was an afternoon I will never forget. It was indeed a good treat for me.

One day I sliced all the available fruits inside the fridge to make the breakfast of the day. I have some apples, ripe mango and banana on the plate. I saw some French bread. I sliced and toast it again just to complete my day. All the meat being presented during holidays seems to make me fed up with it. So a different breakfast will make my holiday a different approached. I enjoyed the rest of the day with my breakfast like that. One of my resolutions will be to make it a habit to eat a plate of fruits a day.

New Year @ GUIMARAS Island..

It was indeed a different New Year for all of us. It has been for 12 years that we never experienced a fireworks display. Davao city always celebrate it with a different bang. The sounds everywhere you go. Big sound boxes where on the streets for the countdown.

Last December 28, 2011 we attended an annual reunion on my father side relatives. We were able to meet some new found relative. They welcome us with a warm embrace. We do not like the fireworks .

Since our flight was moved to a latter days we decided to explore the Island of GUIMARAS. I have visited the place when I was very young. Now is different I am with whole family with the kids. An experienced worth keeping.

We arrived at Jordan Warf and took a jeepney to Raymen Resort which was located at ALOBIJOD. It took us 30 minutes boat ride and another one hour for the jeepney to reach our destinations. It was indeed new for all of us. Nobody from us knew the place .But it was indeed a secured place. Imagine white sand and islets from a far. Fresh air and people are all smiling to welcome us.

The kids can’t wait to take a deep. We found out plenty of fresh catch fish for sale. Wow indeed a paradise island for us. More Guimaras escapade on the next post..........

Christmas in the Philippines

It is the first day of Christmas. My kids are very happy and excited. Soon they will have a vacation at ILOILO meeting some relatives there.

As for me, I am also excited for all the incoming events. A grand reunion with my high school friends. Friends I haven't seen for 25 years.And for sure the busiest week ever with all the preparations and dance rehearsals..Got to look for good for the event

People will be busy shopping even with a small token will be appreciated. Kids will be excited to wear their new dresses.

Cities will be lighted with colorful stars. as well Departments stores...Discounts and other sales sparks everywhere.

Improvise snow man in a department malls...even though we do not have the snow.Maybe with this kind of snowman everything will be ok

Every where you are in the Philippines you can enjoy a month long celebration of Holidays...MERRY CHRISTMAS everybody..

Kim's Encampment

It was her first to try also this kind of game. She find it difficult yet she keep on trying to balance with it. She love doing it again and again.

It was a Friday morning that Kim is so excited to go. She will be attending the Encampment in their school. She will have some activities that's seems to be her first. Kim's first exposure to origami.It may not be that perfect or good. But as I looked into her eyes.It connotes she is very proud of her master piece.

I am willing to support her for the upcoming camping outside the campus. It may be early for her to take care of her self.But I know with the training ,exposure and experience she will be undergoing it will be worth a try. I may be pampering her for I will always be at her side. Just wondering how is she coping with the physical challenges. Kim may you enjoy every activity .More art works and worthwhile activity with your other star scout..

We will be having a grand alumni homecoming on December. So we need to have some head dress for our costume. I have a friend to be help me and to represent the group.So I took the liberty to take her pictures so that the group can decide immediately.

Choco loko

I do love chocolate very much. I know I should slow down about eating it because of my sugar count. Well I can't resist especially one afternoon in my friend’s house. We have very healthy lunch with some veggies and super slurp y soup. It was indeed a great lunch.

I cannot resist the dessert especially wrapped with white covering. I was thinking it will be just an ordinary kakanin made locally. But I was surprised that it was one of the most rarest chocolate I would be tasting for that day. You name most chocolates in the world but for me this one is new and indeed different. My friends was the first one to pick their choice. I was just holding on to my self as I watch them crave for it. Atlast I got the chance to get one of the most chewiest and chocolatey I have ever tasted . I really felt cloud nine at that time. I cannot express my gratitude to have tasted one of the best chocolates made from SAN FRANCISCO, USA. According to my friend it was the trademark of the place. And it is only available in their state. Though I haven’t gone to that place sure with the bite of their choco means a lot to me already. I go choco loko for a while.

Onion rings on the loose

It was a cloudy afternoon for us kids. So we decided to have crispy onion rings for a snack. We already have the big orange goodness onions, flour ,eggs and salt and pepper to taste and there you have a crunchy onion rings.
First chop the onion slice thinly. Be sure it is in circle shape. Separate some of it. sprinkle some and pepper to taste. Ready with your flour inside a plastic . Put some onions so that flour will cover all of it. On the other bowl put some eggs . whisk it . Put some salt and some seasoning. After putting the onions on the flour put it on the egg mixture after which put it back again to the flour mixture. and dropped it on the hot oil. Let it cooked. Cooled. For the sauce mixture some mayonnaise and catsup .Seasoned with salt and pepper to taste.Place it in a nice platter to served . You have a crunchy onion rings.

Blue berry cheese cake treat

We celebrated our dear Apong’s birthday every October 4. We celebrated it earlier for everyone to enjoy the whole afternoon. Her birthday falls in the middle of the week. She was born at San Juan, La Union last 73 years ago. The whole family migrated in Mindanao after the drought they experienced in Luzon.

So we decided to have a blue berry cheese cake on the day of her birthday. Blow a candle on the day of her natal day. She was indeed surprised. So we sang some songs and she made a wish. She was misty eyed to see her cake.

As the celebrant sliced the cake all of us seem to be eager to have a bite of it. The blue berry cheese cake was so delicious. Wow it was indeed so yummy and everything taste so heavenly .It last only for a day.

World's Teachers day

October 5 will be TEACHERS day to all public schools. I remembered before I used to teach in private school we usually celebrated it during Valentine’s Day. But things have change since then.

My second daughter was so eager to make something nice for her teacher. Since the theme is ‘MY TEACHER , MY HERO” I made something appropriate for the latest event happened in the Philippines. Shamcey Supsup was chosen as third runner up in the said Miss Universe Pageant.

The teacher has that sweet smile and long shiny hair. So I decided to make her someone like a Miss Universe. Even though she’s not that perfect in physical features to qualify for a candidate but she is a HERO to my daughter. She always shares what her teacher talked about the whole day. Some maybe her bad experiences as a teacher others will be the places she visited. She approached the student with a motherly touch. I know how strict she is. But mind you it is for the good of her students. She is still in their minds making assignments and how to deal with it. We made something like this handmade straight from the heart.

As we celebrate teachers day next week , may we also remember our old teachers who used to teach. From Kinder – Elementary , High School and college teachers. I know we struggle for every teachers we encounter some maybe bad, strict, loving,sweet and for sure good teachers. They may teach us the basic to high faluping words to simple math to abstract reasoning. All I can say , I salute all the teachers in the whole wide world.

Keziah's first birthday

We attended a birthday party yesterday. It was Keziah's first birthday. We arrived very early. So I tried alluring the birthday girl that I will carry her. Sad to say I am a stranger to her. So what I did I keep on looking at her and making some funny faces but it did not convince her. Her mom told us that it is her sleepy time and yet she did not sleep. She knew that there will be relatives, neighbours and friends who will celebrate her birthday. The food was great especially the home made palabok. I couldn’t help but eat more than two servings. She shared to me her ingredients some noodles cooked and drained, in another pan sauté some garlic and onions, then set aside. Place some pork fats until it becomes crunchy and less fats. The place some slices of pork lean and some shrimps. Place some chitcharon and then put some chopped spring onions for garnishing. You have it and it was indeed delicious. I just love eating to parties especially for some food sold in commercial fast food and being served. I enjoyed the party the giggles of some kids as they play.

Escapade of Milk Fish

My father loved this dish very much. Bangus with puso ng saging (bananas heart).We enjoy dining this dish during lunch time. Some will say it is sinigang na bangus. I just love this dish. You can hear a slurping sound among us, us we sip the sourly soap of it. I just enjoy seeing them sweating pout as they eat.

Milk fish is our national fish according to Kim as we study the different emblem of our country. I really love this fish especially grilled with some tomatoes, onions and lemon grass inside its belly. It is indeed cheap and very good source of white meat.

I tried cooking some bangus fillet. Do some bonelessing first before the desired cut. They thought for a while an expensive fish for the said dish. I have tried also the kinilaw bangus. It is so yummy. Imagine the bones are being melt by the sour vinegar they used.

You can indeed make some new recipes for our national fish. I will eat bangus forever if and when you wanted to eat white meat.

From Badjao to Goodjao

The Badjao people are one of the ethnic groups who migrated to key cities in the Philippines. They always have the sea as source of their income. How? By begging or asking you to throw money in the water for them to dive on. But most often they really are begging. I experienced being spit on by some of them. I do not like to give. They have this style of begging when you give one of their companions they will go rushing to you and ask for more. I really find them annoying sometimes.

Years have passed but they become productive now. I saw some groups of children being educated in some barangays. They were also train to make some burloloys and other ornaments.

One day I enjoy my usual walking and buying at the market. I was looking for some used clothes stalls a.k.a "ukay-ukay". If and when I needed some costumes for a certain school related activities I choose used clothes. It is cheap and durable. As I continue to look and search in the mountain full of used clothes. I was also elbow to elbow with some Badjao. I was looking at them they were really busy choosing also some clothes. See how used clothes help people to wrap their body. I left as I found what I am looking for. As I walked a group of Badjao also are busy putting all those used clothes in a hanger. Where are they going to put it? They have big cabinets in the market. Now I know they are selling it. They become a walking ukay ukay stalls selected items. They become productive. I remember after that I bought a short for my daughter. She liked it very much and she said "how young she becomes a business woman...” referring to young girl carrying all the used clothes in a bunch of hangers. They become GOODJAO.

Steam Seafood with Coconut milk

We attended a birthday party yesterday and I tasted this very delicious menu I discovered . He call it steam seafood with coconut milk. I usually eat with tahong only and some lemon grass. Just to find out a variety of cooking it . It was indeed something new for a lunch .That’s why I wanted to share it.

Ingredients

Tahong

Shrimps

Carrots

Kangkong

Red and green bell pepper

Coconut milk

Salt and pepper to taste

Put some oil on the pan . Place some onions , ginger and garlic. Sautee it. Put the shrimps and let it cooked. Add carrots until tender .Add the rest of the ingredients. Be sure to let it boil and cook. Especially with the thick coconut milk. Add some salt and pepper to taste. Place it a nice bowl container and you have it a very wonderful dish to spice up the day.

Coconut Milk Extractor

Coconut milk is very important especially in making BIKO .Or shall we say sweetened sticky rice. It is the essential ingredient for that dish. When I was young, I would frowned when my tatay will call me to do the dirty job which is getting the meat of the coconut by using a wooden chair with a sharp teeth at the end of it. We call it “kaguran”. I always hurt myself because I cannot control it. Sometimes I would beg my elder brother to do for it.

My father stayed in the USA for quite some time. He still cooked the bike. But this time he is using the canned coconut milk. It has improved a lot. Though it doesn’t have the same juiciness’ or freshness shall we say from the raw coconut meat. People tend to invent some things to make life easier. So they have the electric coconut meat grinder. But it is still tasking because you need to purge the milk by using your bare hands. I still find it tiring sometimes.

During my mom’s 82^nd birthday, we wanted to cook again BIKO. But this time I have discovered a much easier and less tasking way in purging the milk. I called it coconut milk extractor. You see the woman here just place a kilo of fresh grated coconut milk in her magnificent machine. Just before my very eyes the coconut milk dripping from that machine. I was really amazed to see such invention worth keeping especially in making some desserts in the future. I am happy really for this coconut milk extractor. Bravo!!! Well done. Good innovations.

Chorizo Sealer

Since I engaged myself in chorizo business. I find it very relieving when I see the faces of the team of chorizo sealer. Every time I see them do their part in the expansion of the chorizo business. I couldn’t help it but thanked them for the magnificent job they are doing. As I observed them I am amazed of how fast their hands work in the rhythmic position. A string and only a razor blade will works in wonder. They are being paid for daily business. Sometimes by the hundreds of chorizo packs or maybe by the thousand. Since they are team they have to divide it equally. I see them very happy and satisfied rather staying at home without money. One time, as I waited for my order to be packed. I listened to their conversations. They sometimes talked about the new Teleserye, the latest news, events as well the new chikas. They continue to satisfy their own world with their own found job. Being a chorizo sealer. Another job being discovered that will continue to feed their family. The kind of job that will sustain their needs. I continue to wonder why is it that some people tend to beg rather than work? Its their choice.

Kadayawan sa DAVAO 2011

Davao City is very busy for the Kadayawan '11. The main streets are being adorned of colourful pongees to indicate the start of it. Teasers are being posted at Youtube. Even though I have not yet seen some teasers in the television. I can feel the intense preparation of organizers and the surrounding community.

My little Kim was so excited to be of help for the said event. How? In their school they were encouraged to bring some handful of rice and some canned goods for their participating dancers. Their school is very active and constant winner of the “Indak Indak” (street dancing) category children division. Their school is MAGALLANES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. It is indeed an activity Davaonoes will look for in the month of August. They have line up activities posted in every bulletin board. Some are in malls and accessible areas. Just search on the Kadayawan schedule of activities at www.google.com

Every year they will display some plants and other orchids in a very cheap prize. Lots of exhibits about Davao .Malls will also welcome entertainers to highlight the occasion. They will also decorate and make fun activities to show case what is Kadayawan all about.

May this year be of fruits beyond compare. Pomelos and other loved fruits like Durian. Flowers display is indescribable. All for world class interpretation.

Google Adsense Treat for my Family

It was a fine morning to treat my family and friends for a deep at Highponds Resort. It happened to be my treat for my family for the blessings received from Google Adsense.

I would like to take this opportunity that being a blogger is not waste of our time but a worthy hobby .It is also an income generating. Since the evolution of fast food people tend to eat in an instant. They wanted immediate satisfaction . But as they continue to grow and expand. They continue also to be very expensive.

So I tried exploring not so popular fast food so that I can compare them with quality of food and the prize. As I passed by City hall drive I discovered a very new fast food. It was indeed new. They just opened last June 2011. I do not know the date to be exact. They gave some coupons like some promotions materials. At first I couldn’t believe it. Imagine two spaghetti in a prize of one. Tell you it is really yummy. Shanghai meal with only five sticks of it was really delicious. Almost all delicious combo are in buy one take one menus. No wonder lots of students, professionals and moms like me bring our kids for a fast, cheap yet delicious meal. Try for yourself they are located at San Pedro drive, Davao City.

Shell shaker

We visited again the beautiful place of Lake Sebu. The waterfalls current is strong and it seems so angry. It passes like a loud thunder roar. I saw some group of people looking for some stones under the fast moving current of waters. So I looked and observed that they are looking for shells. I observed them closely as the woman continue to grab some amount of sands and there you are some small shells .Mind you that the shells collected are just enough for a decent meal. The shells they are getting is very small. I asked them how much does it cost for them to sell a plastic container. She sells it 20 pesos. So as she continues to dig in. She used some kind of net.

I noticed a man also digging some of it but without a net . I asked him if he selling it .He replied he just wanted to try some of it for viand later on. It free for all. As the strong current of water continues the shell shakers make their day. It was a pleasant day to look for some honest income for a day.

This is the shells looks like inside her net. She will sell this in the nearby local market . She will buy some rice and vegetables for family for the incoming days. It seems to be a very tiring day with a decent work. As long as the falls fall its water, I know you will see her every now and then.

Third eye Amenities

My little Cj is no longer a baby. She will be turning thirteen next week. I remembered then that during her pre-school years, her teacher approached us. She told us that my Cj has eye defect. She needed an eye glasses. I couldn’t believe it especially knowing she has high grade for lenses. Since then her miseries of having eyeglasses began. I recall she will go home crying. She was teased by her classmates for wearing eyeglasses and looks like old woman. I always tell her it would be good for her eyes and health. She will never bump into something again.

Just the other day, she requested for a new set of eyeglasses. She wanted to change it because she remembered it was almost two years now. She saw some eyeglasses with tinted lenses. I told her it would be difficult for her since their classroom lacks a lot of lighting features. I find it inappropriate for her age. So we decided to buy the prescription eyeglasses which suited for her eye needs. She’s so happy with it. While we were waiting for her eyeglasses fix. I discovered that you can also buy as low as $ 6.95 prescription eyeglasses.

She was very happy that we chose a high index multicoated eyeglasses as birthday gift for her.

When I was young I just love simply hotdogs. But when the day I tasted chorizo I really fell in love with it. I keep on asking my mom to buy me every week. It was so expensive then. I enjoyed looking at it especially when it pops up. I remember that it inside the pig’s intestine. Later on we have the skinless chorizo, without the skin of the pig’s intestine. We have it properly packed and ready to eat. Until now I enjoyed it especially that I intend to sell it so some of my friends and relatives for extra income. I have already tasted almost all chorizo in some local market. Mind you this one I am selling is guaranteed delicious and well recommended. Try some of your chorizos at home and let’s compare.

Fresh rice a.k.a Pinipig

Fresh young rice o.k. PINIPIG. I was waiting for my brother and his son to finished their biking time when a woman bringing a basket with green rice looking. The aroma was so enticing. It lingers in the air when she opens her basket. It is green and mouth watering smell. I find it very delicious .But I was wondering why is it green and soft. While the one I used to see back home is white and crunchy. This one is really different. They sell it 40 pesos for a small plastic can and 100 for a big plastic container. When I took a handful of it to my mouth it is tasty and soft. So I asked my mom about it. She said it the young rice being harvested and cooks. Others use pandan leaves to make it aromatic and green in colour. Another lessons learned about the dried pinipig I used to eat when I was young. For sure there are so many foods worth trying for.

Every time I visits a place I always noticed the landscape and the there stones being used. I remembered during my younger days our house was made of wash out pebbles for our flooring. Though it is not known for its use I am into scrutinizing every detail.

One time my father intends to buy house. He was very particular with structures and the possible expenses for the repairs. But to my amazement he chose the house because of the uniqueness of the tiles being used. The tiles in the floors really give meaning and elegant looking. They can also minimize scrubbing. These days tiles and other floor decors are in. Big houses and almost buildings have floor tiles.

May they continue to produce some earth friendly materials such as old tires? I heard someone have already made some replicas on using old tires for flooring and other are still discovering.
