Honesty

When I was growing up, I lied a lot. I mean, if that little ditty "Liar, liar, you're pants are on fire" were true I would have been in the hospital with third degree burns on the regular. But, if you ask any of my friends today, they would say I am one of the most honest and open people they know. Trust me - a lot of therapy and life lessons came between then and now.

It took a lot of time, but I finally learned why I used to lie. It was my only protection from being hurt. If people didn't like me, it was "okay" in my book because they didn't really know me. I could wear any mask or disguise I wanted so that I would hope no one would reject me. They knew the person that I made up for them. They knew the girl I pretended to be, not who I really was. It was the ultimate defense mechanism, and one I could control and I was admittedly pretty good at. They didn't know I was the girl who didn't want to go home. They didn't know I was the girl who would think of new hiding places for her grandfather's gin. They didn't know I was the girl who wore longer sleeves in the summer to hide bruises that weren't from her own clumsiness (and I am a klutz!). They didn't know I was the girl who kept a packed duffle bag in her closet if she ever got the nerve to run away. They didn't know I was the girl who questioned every move she made. They knew who I wanted them to know and for a while that was alright.

But I did grow up and get away from the madness that I grew up in. It was then I started to wonder who I was because I didn't know the person looking back at me from the mirror. I was so used to pretending to be someone else that I didn't even know what was true anymore. So, I began to soul search and finally decided to not lie anymore. I had no idea how exhausting it was lying until I finally stopped. I was so free and much less tired. I didn't need to keep my stories straight or remember what I told people because it was all the same and it was the truth. Smart person who said the truth will set you free, because it definitely gave me my wings.

The hardest thing to get used to once I started being honest was the fear of rejection and getting hurt. I was so used to protecting myself in my blanket of lies that becoming an open book was like pulling off a band-aid really fast - I was completely vulnerable. And I still am. I know that many people respect my candidness and the fact that I am completely open and honest. But I also know that there are people who look to take advantage of me as well. Unfortunately, the potential to get hurt comes along with the amazing rush of living my life on my own terms. I can't shelter myself from the world because the rewards outweigh the risks. If people don't like me for who I really am, that is their issue, not mine to own. If someone is going to try to exploit my kindness, I can't stop them. I can be wary, but every experience has it's lesson. I have learned to own my feelings and my desires. I have learned that what is most important is living the life I want to. And in doing so, I've never felt more like a whole person.

The only thing I would change at this point is I would LOVE to not be anonymous. I wish our society would come to a place where we would not judge people for their sexuality. It shouldn't "define" or categorize me. It is just part of me. It is who I am. I won't apologize for being a sexual submissive. However, until the day where our world can accept sex positivity, I will unfortunately continue to wear one mask. But just know, that it is only hiding my face, not who I am.

My Pontification on Anonymous Accounts

I didn't start my anonymous twitter/blog account to meet anyone. If anything it was so I would know No One, and no one would know me, and I’d be able to post whatever the hell I felt like, without judgment. I wanted the freedom to speak my mind, especially when it comes to my sex life.

To be fair, I am a pretty much an open book. I have another account under my real identity and I don't hold much back there either, but there are just some lines you can't cross. Sometimes I like to brag about how much i am getting laid, or how I'm not but the orgasm I gave myself was beyond anything I've gotten from a guy recently. As much as sexuality has evolved, there is still a shroud around it that amuses me. But I digress.

Anon or not, I'm not a fan of meeting people from the Internet. I'm not saying I am against it, I know plenty of people who have had amazing success. I've done the online dating thing a few times over the years and nothing has stuck. I've made some friends sure, and gotten laid once or twice, but no one that lasted past date two or three.

It's just not for me. And most likely it’s because of me, not the guy involved. When I first start talking to someone online, I take what I know and I create this character, this person in my head. And often when I meet the real deal its not as I have envisioned and then become disappointed. Or vice versa, I'm sure I have been on the other side of that table before.

I compare it to going to see a movie that's been made out of a book. I love reading and being swept away to another world, time, place. I take the words and turn them into pictures in my head. So often when I see the movie I am disappointed because its rarely how I imagined it. Sure, it could be a great movie but because I already read the book it doesn't do it justice. Take Shutter Island for example. The movie was incredible...for anyone who hadn’t read the book first. I was disappointed I had because I missed out on an opportunity to really enjoy the film without any previous knowledge/ideas going in.

I realize this sounds rather superficial, but you've got to have a physical connection with someone or it won't work. And I'm not just talking looks, mannerisms and body language are a huge part of that. It's why I would rather meet someone organically in real life, if there is a physical attraction you can move on to the emotional and mental connection. I hate to create that bond first, the one that really gets you to your core, to only have it dissipate within seconds when there is attraction. It’s such a letdown to me, and it doesn’t seem worth it.

I write this mainly because I went against my original plan to remain anon and opened up lines of communication with someone via this account. Two days ago I easily would have tweeted about a guy I hooked up with a month ago suddenly sexting me out of the blue, but now I second guess my decision to make that public. And that makes me kind of mad. Mad mostly at myself, for going against my original intention to remain anonymous, faceless, unattached. I like having this secret account that no one else is aware of.

So now there are decisions to be made. Do I see if there is anything there, losing my anonymity and risk being disappointed, or disappointing them? Or what if there really could be a connection, and I miss out on it because I am stubborn and bull headed? And that’s scary too.

I realize that by posting this some may see it as a “challenge” and that certainly is not my intention at all. If anything it’s to help explain who I am, and the decisions that may come in the future.

One Night Stands

I've been into one night stands since I lost my virginity. Hell, that's how I lost it! I would estimate that out of all my sexual encounters, only ~25% have resulted in repeat encounters. And while I haven't had a ridiculous number of partners, I am way above "average".

I've always liked having sex, but when I was younger and first having it, I thought it was the way to attract, and keep, a guy. Sleep with him and it will lead to dating! By my early/mid 20s I finally realized this was not the case, and that I should be having sex because I want to, not because the guy does. And let me tell you, I want to. A lot. And I'm not afraid to go out and find it.

I've had ONS where I didn't even bother getting the guys name, or giving him mine. I've had others that have turned into something more, or ones in which I wish they had because of the way the guy held my face while he kissed me (my kryptonite, for the record). Some started as a small flirtation that grew throughout the night, while one happened right after sharing a cab with a random guy.

ONS, or sex in general, can be kind of like ice cream. Sometimes its fun to try a new flavor for the night, whereas other times you'd rather just stick what you know tastes good. Sometimes you are craving a flavor from years ago, but it's no longer in stock. Either way, when you want ice cream sometimes you've just got to have it right then.

For the record, I have insanely good intuition, and have never (knock on wood) been in a position where I felt threatened or forced to do anything against my will. Male or female, if you feel uncomfortable about something then you probably should remove yourself from the situation.

Sinful Sunday 99: Remnants of the Past

As Molly says, Sinful Sunday is about the image. She was preparing for a conference presentation and she put out a call to all her submissive followers: What five words would you use to describe your submission?
I'm sure many who don't know enough about the subject would not understand the words that a chose. But I also think that many other subs and Dominants know exactly what I meant.

Sinful Sunday, Week 94: Still Single

Sinful Sunday Week 93: Lazy Sunday

The Baltimore Sun held their Fourth Annual Mobbies awards for best social media and blogs in Maryland. Last year was my first year to be eligible and I actually won for Best Reader Engagement blog! Alas, although I know so many of you voted and voted for me (Thank you to all of you!!! You know who you are and I love you!), I did not take the top spot. New Things On The Horizon
One of the best parts of being part of the Mobbies competition is getting to discover other blogs, collaborate with other great writers, and share innovative ideas. This year was no different. Although I remain anonymous, I have been able to talk to many other people about so many different aspects of sex, dating, sexuality, etc. That got me thinking. This is mostly a personal blog, and I plan to keep it that way for the most part. However, there are so many different points of view about sex than just my own. I have always loved writing about my experiences and giving advice so that we open the dialogue about these topics more and more. This is something that I actually wrote on July 5, 2012 -- only a few days after June 30, 2012, the night it actually happened. I don't post things about friends or lovers unless a) they are past b) they deserve to be called out or c) I have his/her permission. Just after I wrote this and was ready to post, I thought that something had changed and this person had not given permission. I recently was given the go-ahead, so here it is -- Part 1.

Derecho. It was a word I hadn't heard before this past weekend. Apparently, it is Spanish for "Straight" and usually refers to a straight-line windstorm that also incorporates severe thunderstorms. But neither myself or my friend "B" were thinking of the storm outside late Friday night, early Saturday morning. I know it has taken me a while to post this final part, but I think I was just so upset about it all that I couldn't bring myself to write it at first. Without further ado, the conclusion of my few weeks trying to figure out R.

We went back and forth texting for the next couple of days. He had told me about a big event he was working that week and I was also swamped with work myself. He actually even tried to ask for my advice as to what he should do. I told him that if he decided to try to work things out with her that there would not be a chance #3. He was upset about that (umm - why? unless you think things won't work out with her, you shouldn't even care!). I think the thing that actually hurt me was he seemed more worried about the way it looked that he did the same thing to me once again rather than how much it hurt me to be betrayed by him.

Needless to say, that was that. I felt really stupid for giving him another chance, but that is my nature. I care too much about people and give them the benefit of the doubt. What is worse is I wonder if I wasn't ready to open up to anyone. Yet, he convinced me to trust him and let him in, only to turn around and break that. Sadly, I now feel more gun-shy than ever and I am not sure I want to continue trying to date. Maybe time will help, but I'm just kind of done being hurt.

Dating: The Actual Moment (Part 3)

Dating: OK Date 1 Approaches (Part 2)

The very next night, my phone rang. I didn't recognize the number so I of course just let it go to voice mail and kept watching Dexter. It all almost felt like it was a little too good to be true, but I detected the sincerity in his voice. He convinced me, after a lot of good conversation to at least go out with him once. He wanted one chance to not only say that he had matured, but to show me what he is like now and to prove he wasn't the guy who flaked out on me ten years ago. I hung up excited to see him that upcoming Friday night.

Dating: I Met Someone (Part One)

After a while sitting on the sidelines, I tried to start dating again this past summer. As many of you know, if you follow me on Twitter, I'm not afraid to live update a date that has gone awry. There was the guy who had pictures on his online dating profile that were 5 years old (and looked nothing like that guy I actually met face-to-face). There was the guy who kept talking about his job, his car, how much money he made. Then there was the guy who barely spoke at all, but at the end of the night still tried to hook up. I really felt like my choice to try and put myself out there again was a huge mistake. I almost started to wonder if I was the problem.

Then, at a concert with some girl friends, I ran into a guy (R) that I had met about ten years ago. We had gone on a couple dates (nothing major), but he told me he wanted to get back with his ex-girlfriend, and that ended it all. It was sort of nice to see him again, except for the fact that he didn't even remember me. At first he thought I was joking that we had gone out before (let alone 3 dates). I, for better or worse, have a pretty good memory, so I told him a couple of facts that I remembered. He was still not recalling, and I know I am not that forgettable, so I took that as a sure sign that it was definitely not meant to be. A little embarrassed, I told him to take care and started to walk away.

However, he seemed newly interested. Before I could turn away he smiled and said, "Trust me, I think I would remember going out with someone as beautiful as you." So - Here's Where I'm At

I know I know - I don't post enough. I have overcome some major hurdles at work these few weeks, so I can only hope that means a little more personal time for me. Which hopefully means, if any of you would like, more posts to come.

I will admit, as I think I had before this, that I isolated myself from the dating scene for quite a while. I had two very major relationships end in a hurtful manor about 5 and 6 years ago. Sadly, that was something I wasn't really used to. For the most part, although hurt feelings may have been involved on either or both sides, up until then, I remained friends with most of my ex'es. It wasn't that one or the other of us did any wrong, it was more that we had grown apart and one of us (usually him unfortunately for me) would realize we just weren't right for each other.

So, since the last two men had really either "done me wrong" or hurt me more than I had ever been, I took a long, self-imposed break from trying to date. And, if you have read any of my blog, that is when I met Daddy J. That is when I was awakened to the submissive inside me. But, that was fleeting in a way. I then just rationalized with myself that he didn't feel about me the way I felt about him. Yes, I would love to have the "data" to tell me what I could change or do better, but that was never to try to get him back. That data would then be used to do what I do even better for the next guy who may be lucky enough to be with me.

Unfortunately, many people have taken my curiosity the wrong way. Some people think I am jealous that he has moved on. But, truthfully?! I don't want someone who doesn't want to be with me. Who wants to settle like that? And I actually respect him (only a little bit) to go after what it is he really wants. I would have thought he would have been mature enough to actually communicate with me that he didn't want me or he had met someone he wanted more. But, c'est la vie - he is who he is. And I liked him for that. And I wish him the best for where he goes next. Just one bit of advice? COMMUNICATE with the new "her" - or next time? YOU will be on the end that gets left behind ;)
