Playing the cuda version of leela chess zero on lenovo flex 14' with NVidia GeForce 840

I thought my laptop was not supported by CUDA version of Leela Chess Zero, the AI powered open source chess engine. But today, I have managed to run it on my old lenovo laptop.

Before this cuda build, i have been using the cpu version, opencl build and the last the directx 12 build.

To run this, first i download the latest lc0 from lc0 download page. Then, I update my NVidia GeForce driver to the latest release. Unpack the cuda build of leela chess zero and add the engine to my Arena Chess GUI. And it work out of the box.

this version of lc0 was intended to use with directx 12 card. From Leela's page, this variant is for non NVIDIA card windows 10. but when you try to run the engine on dual graphic card laptop, for example, mine, using NVIDIA Geforce 840 and Intel Graphic, it would spit "Dx error: Unspecified error (c:\projects\lc0\src\neural\dx\shader_wrapper.cc:122)". That error would disappear when you set lc0 to use NVIDIA High performance from NVIDIA control panel Settings.

Installing additional RAM on my Lenovo Flex 2 14 inch

In this tutorial, I will show you how to install additional RAM on Lenovo Flex 2 14". The RAM that I was using for this project is team elite 8GB DDR3 PC3L piece from team. It operates on 1600 MHz. On the laptop, there have already 4 GB RAM from Skynix.
The seller told me that it is OK to install them together.
So, lets do that!
I open the laptop case, and install the RAM on the available slot. Put the case back and run some test. The installation went success, and performance boost have been noted.

Hello Everyone!
I just notice today that i cannot do the drag and drop action with my laptop touchscreen when playing live chess game at chess.com. I've looking the net for some solution but failed to find one.

For your information, I was using latest Mozilla Firefox. When using google Chrome, did not encounter this problem.

So, I went to look at Mozilla Firefox configuration, at about:config that will give out this kind of warning:

I went to click "I accept the risk" and searching for touch_event, and my screen looked like this:

I doubled click the key named "dom.w3c_touch_events.legacy_apis.enabled" so the value went from false to true.

When I open a new live game at chess.com, the drag and drop has worked once more.
I hoped this log help anyone.

What to try when (3D Viewer) mixed reality not recognising your laptop built-in camera

Finally, it works :)

Today I try to use 3d viewer and then try to used the 3d model in mixed reality. But the app (mixed reality) always ask me to setup camera first. But another application can use my laptop built in camera normally.
I then search the web, of course, looking for other user with same problem. I found a couple, but no solution could cure my finding.
But, then I try to update the camera driver via windows device manager. It appear that windows find more updated driver and install it. When I open 3D viewer again, tap on mixed reality, it does recognize my camera. May be, you can try that to if you have same problem. Hope this help.

If you happen to have that old flatbed scanner, Canoscan Lide 20, and intend to use it with windows 10 64 bit, you might find it difficult to get a working driver.
Well, there is a work around. Use VueScan, a scanning program that will automatically install your CanoScan driver. This software is developed by Hamrick.
It enable me to keep the functionality of my old Canoscan, which is no longer supported by Canon. You can program the Button on the scanner to meet your preference.
This software is stright forward, easy to understand user interface. It allow you to adjust various setting, it saves to pdf and tiff.
But the price is not cheap. More than a half price of the Scanner it self. I hope someone find this post useful. Thank you

Playing Throne Rush on Your Advent Vega

This week throne rush has make me addicted. This war game is really has effect on my time management, I must warn you before you decide to play. Hehehe. The game play is like Stronghold or Warcraft or Battle realm or even the great Civilization. You start the game with a ruined castle along with minimal support for a village. How have to make your way to gain enough support to build an army. Buliding minery, windmill, barn and barrack. When you finally has your army. Try attacking real player to get morale, gems, and even ruines on some occasion. There is also a rarity fair which I think a genius addition to the game play, make it even more addictive to me.

I just updated the MXPlayer on my advent vega running JellyBean. The result is unexpected, because the movie play now really slow. You will not enjoy it anymore. Maybe because the update or something else. I've tried reinstall, same result.

Finally I get the older version is this player and the movie play is back to nice again.

Upgrade Your LG L5 E612 to Android JellyBean 4.1.2

I seldom use the phone software checker (Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update) to see if any firmware update are available from the server. I never thought there would be a major update for this phone. I realized about this update from web news I accidentally read.
It says that LG L5 got a major firmware update from Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) to Jelly Bean (4.1.2).

If you want to do this upgrade, prepare the following:
1. LG PC Suite for LG L5 (just google it), update it to the latest version
2. A computer, USB data cable.

then do as follow:
1. Connect your LG L5 E612 phone to your PC/Laptop via USB.
2. if this is the first time you connect your phone, the phone will let you choose USB mode for this connection, choose PC suite mode. Also the PC may install the driver for the phone, it may take a few minutes, or restart the PC/Laptop once.

3. Lauch the PC suite, confirm that the phone is recognized by the suite, select menu, [Mobile Device]-> [Mobile Device software update], it will check the server for update. The jelly bean firmware will be named by V20E_00.kdz. Choose to download the upgrades (it's a big about 700MB file).
4. Do not disconnect you LG during the upgrades. Wait for the download to finish, LG PC suite will change your phone mode to download mode and upload the upgrades to your phone.
5. Once finish uploading, the phone will restart, optimizing application already installed and ...
you have android jelly bean on your phone.
You can now install google now, and say OK google to start search :)

Kiss the Vega Good Bye

Scanno, the nickname behind VegaBean, and Unofficial CM 10.1 for Vega has gave it up. You can kiss your dream about vega getting a 4.3 update from this folk, good bye.
As he mention in his post at tabletroms that he now has a new toy, a Nexus 10. He love the beauty of its HD display. His fellow developer and a few user express their gratitude for Scanno's long effort to make Vega stand confidently although it has been dated an old tablet.

Scanno bring the 4.2 to Vega even faster than Samsung bring a 4.2 update to SGS2. My sister has seen 4.2 in my Vega first, for she had to wait 4 month later to see 4.2 in her handset.

But, I still hope that Scanno or maybe someone still want to put some effort for this old tablet. At least, in working to make the VegaBean more faster and perfect. Fixing the bluetooh or Accelorometer support for this tablet. VegaCream is also a good memories for my Vega, I hope someone with skill can look at it, may be he/she can find something to improve or add new functionality.

Let's hope this beloved Vega not die anytime soon, I still enjoying it's company :)

Setting VegaBean to WCDMA only using Elixir widget

My data plan is kind of weird, when I use 2G, edge or GPRS, it charge me extra cost. Look like I only pay for the 3G band.

For this reason, I've searched the www for a way to make "the VegaBean" connect only using 3G network. After hours of searching, i've found a number to dial:

*#*#4636#*#*

this number will bring the dialog to choose what I need, WCDMA only network. But, it did not save the settings. After boot, the settings back to WCDMA prefered.

Search continued to find Elixir. It has a 4G widget, tapping this will bring the same interface when dial the above magic number. Aaand did not save it's settings too.

Still searching it a way to save the settings until now.

Every time before my Vegabean tablet turned off, I must remember to disconnecting it from network, but it's simple with the elixir widget.

Better Movie Play in VegaBean

This review based on my personal experience using the latest MX player with hw encoding enabled in Vegabean Beta6.

HD 720p play nicely
HD 1080p play nicely

compared to my experience with earlier custom ROM like honeyice, VegaICS, or Vegacream.

But, maybe it's the player, not the ROM. I don't have time to test this player againts the older ROM. What matter is the movie play nicely now.

Enabling USB host mode at boot in Vegabean

Vegabean last release was Beta6. I am using it right now, it's a nice ROM although a bit slower than Vegacream.
Some people still have problem with their touchscreen when installing whatever custom ROM, including this one. When faced with this, mouse or keyboard from usb port could come handy, but the default mode for usb in this build is "peripheral", which means: no mouse, or keyboard will be recognized at the usb port.

Enabling usb host mode is easy using shuttle tool, but frustrating when you don't have your touchscreen work. So, maybe it's better to set it to host mode by default.

In Vegacream beta 2.1 you can use this approach I post earlier, but in vegabean you cannot. You'll need to remount your /system read+write enabled in order to do that, so:

1. Open Terminal Emulator
2. Enter the following:

xx@anroid:/$ su

xx@anroid:/$ mount -o remount,rw /system

xx@anroid:/$ echo "echo 1 > /sys/usbbus/host_mode" >> /etc/vega_postboot.sh

xx@anroid:/$ mount -o remount,ro /system

xx@anroid:/$ exit

xx@anroid:/$ exit

reboot your tablet with the host mode enabled by default.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich(ICS) is better than Froyo, Gingerbread, or Honeycomb isn’t it?

Well, you can take it to your tablet now, by installing VegaCream ROM.

This guide is for Advent Vega, PoV Mobii, Zyrex OnePad and other P10AN01 clone tablet user.

There are at least two ways installing this ROM, using nvflash method or ClockwordMod zip update file.

This guide will use the first method.

It took no more than five minutes to flash ROM to the tablet, given the entire ingredient ready.

First, you need to understand, that doing this could:
1. Damage your tablet.
2. Void your tablet warranty, so I have warned you.

What you need?
1. USB male to male cable
2. A PC running windows XP or later.
3. USB driver, get it here. To install it see this post
4. The VegaCream ROM

Flashing step:
1. Turn off your tablet
2. Connect your tablet to the PC using the USB cable
3. Connect your tablet to its charger
4. Put your tablet into nvflash mode: Press back button and hold it, press power button and release both. You should hear a notification sound from the PC speaker.
5. Run the VegaCream*.exe file, wait until the process done, the tablet will reboot itself then power off.
6. Done

You now have VegaCream, enjoy

Installing Windows USB Driver for Advent Vega and Clone

You need to install USB Driver, so your PC recognize the tablet

1.       Extract the SystemUSB.zip
2.       Turn off the tablet.
3.       Connect the PC and the tablet using USB cable.
4.       Connect the tablet to its charger.
5.       Put the tablet into nvflash mode.

          6.       If successful, you’ll hear a notification sound from your PC.
7.       Your PC will ask you to install a driver for the new APX device connected.
8.       Choose to install the driver from specific location.
9.       Locate the driver in the folder where you extract SystemUSB.zip
          10.   Done

Now you can proceed to any flashing procedure using nvflash program.

To put the tablet into nvflash mode:
You need to connect the tablet to its charger, and press a certain button combo.
A lot of tutorial said press and hold 2 second etc, in my experience, it is not necessary.

The important thing is the right sequence.

1.       Back Button, press and hold,
2.       Power Button, press and,
3.       Release both when you hear notification sound from your PC

VegaBean Progress to Beta 1

This has been a blast!

Scanno just take VegaBean to the next rank, Beta 1.

VegaBean now has a working hardware accelerated video support. No more problem with the portrait orientation as seen on the removed alpha 3 version. But, I am not sure if this has fully worked, because a recent report that, some games using portrait as it's default orientation has a problem running on the ROM. Other than that, BBC player, Youtube HD are working as it should.

Other peripheral that work are bluetooth and camera. 3G were said not working, but a member found that 3G is now working on internal 3G. There is a good chance that GPS are working too.

Toggling the GPS off now would not bring the tablet to reboot, ejtagle has fix that. If the GPS working now we have one more major problem, the HDMI audio, but I am sure it would not stand time againts scanno, ejtagle, brucelee666 and the team.

Jelly Bean for Advent Vega/PoV now Alpha 2

Scanno has kept his promise, today he releases the JellyBean for Advent Vega / PoV Mobii Tegra and other P10AN01 clones, with Alpha 2 status. About a week ago, scanno has release VegaBean Alpha 1 for preview. This newly developed Jelly Bean ROM has been a collaboration between EJTagle, Brucelee666 and scanno himself. EJTagle do all the kernel and driver work, the post did not mention what part Brucelee666 take, but I guess he had helped EJTagle with the driver work. Scanno is the cheft who cook the ROM :).
Scanno did not reveal very much information to cover, may be he’ll do it soon. He did mention that almost everything is working, especially the sound. For those who has problem with bad NAND block, scanno has freed 10% space on /system for a better chance for the ROM to be written safely on your NAND memory.

Skype user?
Yes, I think scanno want to give a good news for the member using skype. Skype is now working, but he only test it against the skype test call.

He only mention one problem, the portrait mode, without any further information about the problem. With this information, I guess application like Instagram or Path which use portrait interface mostly, will also have a problem. But, this is not yet confirmed by hand test.

If you want to give support for this brand new promising ROM, go to the thread at tabletroms. There has been four positive responses already. Download the ROM, give your feedback and some donation for scanno cs. That would be a nice thing to do, cheers!

Jelly Bean Come to Vega, PoV, OnePad

A few days already, vegacream ROM thread at tabletroms was hijacked by VegaBean ROM. One or two member there becomes confused. There is some member who suggested that Scanno, the man who developed VegaCream ROM, should immediately create a new thread, which is intended for VegaBean discussion.

Responding to complaints from the forum members, scanno even wrote in one of his post: " The version i posted was just a little bit as a teaser to let people see what potential JellyBean has. As soon as sound is working, i will create a new thread.".

Will Jelly Bean bring potential for something more, particularly on this Advent Vega and Bros tablet? Answer to this question may be obtained by trying yourself the Alpha ROM provided for download by mr. scanno. The potential you found, might not be something you need, as a daily user. Maybe it’s just a potential, only scanno could understand. But, sadly, voluntary made ROM like this would not give you the opportunity to post a request to the dev. I deeply hope, that Jelly Bean port will just make our tablet (Advent Vega, PoV Mobii, ViewSonic, Zyrex OnePad) capable to show its real potential that we can understand as fanatics, enthusiast.

Do we share this hope? But reviewing the history of operating system development, the graphics for hardware requirement was an ascending trend. Jelly Bean, might has promised us smoother, faster, and more reliable system performance, with the price of a more sophisticated hardware. Also, from reviewing history, this is a marketing strategy. Google will definitely do it. Jelly Bean would require a faster processor, more memory, camera and other more refined accessories. And that means, buy new equipment to support it. Scanno, will make Jelly Bean come to our shuttle/tablet that has been aged, but wouldn’t it become too heavy for this device specification.

In my opinion, it will be much better if scanno, continuing his work on his masterpiece "VegaCream", until all bugs and problems become minimal, and finally a full released version. Scanno should listen to the forum members who have loyally test the ROM in every development phase. VegaCream ROM very feasible to develop into the best ROM for our tablets. Best regard!

I do not know for sure, but it seems like scanno has abandoned VegaCream project, and go for his new one, VegaBean.

JellyBean for Vega, PoV, OnePad -- to soon
Moving to jellybean is really cool, but this tablet has limited resources, can it catch JellyBean requirement. VegaBean Alpha has been released by scanno at tabletroms or modaco, and he clearly state that the ROM left only 3MB on /system. While other major devices, they still have to wait for JellyBean update. Application developer will still developing for ICS, I think for a longer time forward. JellyBean has used only by Nexus 7 right now.

More weighted to VegaCream
While it is always fun to have new things in the tablet, for me, it more like stability. I really hope that scanno would wanted to perfect his VegaCream, until at least, all device in our vega is functional. But that is up to his preference, I can only hope. If vega users read this post, please, give your voice in the forum, so someone, will continue scanno progress on VegaCream. It so close to perfection, we need someone like areo that fight for Vegacomb until it become HoneyIce.

Boot Your VegaCream in USB Host Mode

Why in the first place we want to boot vegacream to USB host mode?
There are a number of reason, people want this but of course the right answer is, because they want to connect a peripheral to their tablet usb port. In VegaCream, whether it is on Advent Vega, POV Mobii, or Zyrex OnePad, the default USB mode is peripheral. If you plug a mouse in to the USB port, the mouse wont be detected, but if you connect your tablet to PC, the computer will recognize it as a peripheral.

I found this from tablet ROM, a post by icpart, stating that changing value of /sys/usbbus/host_mode from 0 to 1 will make the tablet using USB host mode. This is achievable by first gaining super user access or root in a terminal. Then add a line in /etc/vega_postboot.sh to change this value. The default value is of course 0.
Step-by-step:
1. Power on your tablet running VegaCream
2. Open a terminal window
3.Obtain super user privilege by typing "su" [enter]
4. type: echo "echo 1 > /sys/usbbus/host_mode" >> /etc/vega_postboot.sh
5. close the terminal window
6. done

Next time you boot, VegaCream will be in USB host mode.

My VegaCream of Dream

Last night, while testing the newly flashed Zyrex OnePad SP1113G, now using the latest vegacream RC2, I fall asleep. I had a dream, a beautiful dream. I knew that because, I remembered my feeling, its a happy feeling. I looked at my OnePad running VegaCream. It is no more a release candidate, it's a stable version of vegacream with everything working.

The display dpi at 160. It is now capable playing 720p movie without hick up :), smooth on the tablet. HDMI is brilliantly play the video to wider screen.

The accelerometer has been fixed, I can now use google sky, playing NFS Hot Pursuit fast without lagging. Foursquare, Path, and Instagram is now fully functional because camera, gps, and bluetooth and wifi are now working flawless.

Voice recording, and command or searching is working. Easily switch betwen host and peripheral mode of USB by a combination of hardware button. The shuttle tools is very smart.

The calling function is the only thing left as it is, but it is ok, the mms application now works, people application work. Youtube work, news site rendered perfectly, and playing video nicely. No more browser and/or flash player issue. OnePad is a fully working and capable tablet now, then I woke up :)

Thats my dream and I hope scanno and ejtagle and brucelee and everybody at tabletroms, modaco, and xda can make it true.

Please, support scanno and his fellow dev to finish the VegaCream out of its RC status, before they move to JellyBean. The ROM dev was never a completed task before, and it has let us down, the users, the testers, the supporters :(

VegaCream RC2 Using New Nvidia Kernel rel-15r7

I have not had time to test the Release Candidate 1, but scanno has released another new update for vegacream. In his announcement in tabletroms.com, Scanno say that there is nothing new in this update, except that the kernel used is the latest release from NVidia rel-15r7. That's all the information come with his post, along with two downloads link.
However, some of the tester in the forum has tested the new update and respond quite well. Most of them said, there is an increased stability, although this update, not as fast as the previous updates. Apparently, scanno at this time, rather lay aside the speed matter and try to focus on the stability of the system.
This can be judged from the few releases that he has made lately. This update was becoming more stable and reliable. And of course we loved it :)

Black Screen When Installing VegaCream

I try to install vegacream, using modded stock v2 as base. But, after updating with CWM zip, and reboot, the screen just give me back light. Nothing else happen next, even when I let it like that for 30 menit, it stay just like that.

Then, I reflash my tablet using VegaICS beta. After, factory reset, clearing dalvik cache, then install the zip update, the tablet won't give me nothing but backlight of the screen.

I then download the nvflash format of VegaCream beta 2.1. I flash my tablet then it boot fine. My tablet is working now, I have no idea why, I only get back light when installing using CWM update.

I recall that I have made some success a few month ago with the CWM update when I install vegacream 2.1 for the first time, but I can not remember what ROM i use for its base. Whether the nvflash of Vegacream beta 2, VegaICS, or moddedsctock. It work that time, vegacream beta 2.1 was installed and run nicely. But now I got no luck with the CWM zip.

If you have problem with the CWM update, you could always download the nvflash version of vegacream.

VegaCream Finally a Release Candidate!

VegaCream on Zyrex OnePad Indonesia

Hello people, scanno brings you the release candidate for his Custom ICS ROM, VegaCream. The version of vegacream just released today. Scanno, has run it for 18 hours without single lockup or reboots. But, thats something for us -- vega, POV, viewsonic users -- to prove on our own tablet.

Just a note that if you decide to use the nvflash version, there will be a false positive from McAfee saying that the program being Malicious. You can ignore that, but remember, thats your own risk.

I am downloading the nvflash version right now, and there will be an update soon. Go to the forum people, or just follow the link below.
