It is really just the story of a middle-aged and wayward hero finding an anchor in a woman who seems to be half of his age.<br /> Chandramouli (Mohanlal) is a world-renowned drummer who has collaborated with most international musicians.He is a vagabond while being commitment phobic.<br /> He has solved the mysteries of existence. We can think of no actor other than Mohanlal to carry off this role . He finds it difficult to sustain his enthusiasm because his characterisation is flawed at the most basic level. It begins with such fervour and ends with such a whimper that it disappoints not only lay viewers but also fans of the star.<br /> The story is about a group of musician friends, Chandramouli being one of them. Everyone else is settled in Chennai, working in the film industry in various capacities.<br /> One day Guna (Siddique) requires a drummer to spice up his composition and feels there is no one better than his old friend Chandramouli to do it. He locates Chandramouli in Mumbai and pleads with him to visit Chennai and record the song.<br /> The director invests heavily in etching out these characters but does not carry the story forward with them. The other side of him is that he is a responsible auto jeep driver since it is his family responsibilities of a widowed mother and three unmarried sisters that is bogging him down. Kunjapoo is the bread winner of the family and for a valid reason he is bent upon torturing his uncle Bava Haji (Jagathy) and begins his revenge that he is in a relationship with his daughter Sajira (Radhika ) and soon he will be marrying her. This gives nightmares to Bava who keeps doing his best to keep Kunjapoo at a bay with some offer or the other. He is aided by his henchmen Sakath Beeran (Salim), Salahudeen(Jagadheesh) whose sole mission is that. However, things take a change when Kunjapoo sees a girl and falls for her at the first sight. He assumed her to be 'Rasiya' and starts searching for her. This news reaches the ears of Bava who is more than happy with it and takes initiative and goes to Rasiya's house and proclaims Kunjapoo's love and fixes up the wedding also. However, Kunjapoo releases that it was Sunanda (Bhama) that he had seen and backs off from Rasiya which leaves Haji getting his only son married to Rasiya to save face. Meanwhile, Sunanda is having her own issues as her uncle Karunakaran (Thilakan) has set his eyes on her huge family fortune and wants her to get married to his son (Nishanth Sagar) who is a widower. As luck would have it, Sunanda keeps bumping across Kunjapoo and soon she falls in love with him. Now, it is upto Kunjapoo to resolve this issue and in this process he is assisted by his favorite star Mammootty himself.<br /> <br /> The director came out with an interesting concept but he failed out miserably on the presentation and narration aspects. The dialogues were dull and the script was loose, the screenplay was shoddy. Even the technical side was bad with some poor music and editing, camera was just about okay. The film has survived majorly on the performances since Prithvi has come out as a matured actor and has enacted crucial scenes with ease. He was well supported by Bhama who is showing a natural flair for acting and full marks to the comedy by Jagathy, Jaffer and Salimkumar. Mammootty has done his best to be a crowd puller with his appeal but then his role has not been etched out very well so not much will happen from his end this time. Thilakan was underutilized. But this time they have failed to keep up the standards of their earlier films like ' Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam', 'TP Balagopalan MA' etc<br /> <br /> The story revolves around the day to day life of villagers, who have a passionate affinity towards politics - here the director has sarcastically tried to portray the current political scenario in Kannur. Set against the beautiful rural settings of a village Paruthippara, the film begins with the arrival of Jayakanthan (Kunchakko Boban) from Kumbakonam, Tamil Nad. He is the son of Narendran who left Paruthippara village 25 years ago after eloping with a native girl Devi from Thakkottur family. Jayakanthan comes to the village for the purpose of bringing home the monetary compensation for his father's property which is now acquired by the airport authority for the construction of a newly sanctioned airport. Unfortunately before he arrives, the village money lender Bhargavan (Srinivasan) had claimed the compensation forging ownership documents.<br /> Barghavan considers Jayakanthan's arrival as a threat and tries to get rid off him with his uncle's help. But there are some good people in the village who supports him like Paruthippara Panchayat President Vinodini (Samyuktha Varma), a former naxalite Vasu (oduvil Unnikrishnan) and Swathi (Asin) his uncle's daughter<br /> <br /> <br /> After a series of events the film ends with his uncle welcoming Jayakanthan to his ancestral home.<br /> <br /> There is nothing new about the theme of the film and the humour is not up to the mark. But the actors have performed their roles well.. Samyukta as the tough Panchayat President who always opposes injustice and has a soft corner for Jayakanthan, Srinivasan in his negative role with a humour touch, Innocent as the politician who wants to be famous somehow, all have done their part. Kunjakoo Boban does not do justice to Jayakanthan's character, romantic roles suits him better.<br /> <br /> Vipins Mohan's camera gives a beautiful picture of the rural settings in their natural splendour. Johnson's compositions lacks freshness. However, Franco has a weakness and that is his love for his sister Jennifer (Roma) since they lose their parents at an early stage. For clarity, they decide that they will marry their respective partners only on each other's approval. Soon, Jennifer comes up with Dr Aby (Boban) a psychiatrist and wants to marry him and on the other hand, Franco has a serious interest in Rosebella (Bhavana) who is a major enemy for Jennifer. However, Franco is unable to take a call on this since Aby knows many things about their past that must not be revealed to Jennifer. In all this comes Francis (Jayasurya) who is a former pickpocket trying to reform and he joins Franco as his assistant with an evil motive, top among them being getting the hand of Jennifer. A barber Balan (Sreenivasan) is poor with his wife Sredevi (Meena) and three children. He is not able to cope with modernization with a new air condition beauty salon / parlour opened by Sarasan (Jagadish) set up opposite his shop. He does not get license or a loan for the salon. He is in debt and ridiculed by everyone in the village. Life is tough for him ? he does not have money to pay children's school fee, nor knows how he is going to have his next meal for his family. There enters a Malayalam superstar Ashok Raj (Mammotty), who is going to come to the village for a ten day shoot.<br /> <br /> The whole village is excited in preparing their superstar's arrival. Slowly a word spreads that Balan and Ashok Raj are childhood friends. Balan, who was a laughing stock, becomes the center of attention. Everyone goes out of their way to help Balan in every way, so that they can get a favor when Ashok Raj arrives to the village. Balan is under pressure from everyone to part a favor of Ashok Raj. When Ashok Raj arrives, Balan tries his best to approach Ashok Raj ? but his honesty and status of barber, does not allow him to go pass through the police security. When the village people know that Balan is not able to help them for a favor, they start taking their support to Balan back, abusing him of cheating them. Balan depressed and sad is back to his old self.<br /> <br /> Ashok Raj gives a ceremonial speech at a school function where he talks about today's life, modernization, the state of good people etc. opening eyes of everyone to the sad truth of peoples behavior.
