Review

NVIDIA chose the start of 2009 as an opportune time to release a couple of high-end graphics cards, GeForce GTX 295 and GeForce GTX 285, etailing at £400 and £300, respectively, whose introduction solidified NVIDIA's position as provider of cutting-edge graphics. Whilst performance was undeniably good, especially from the twin-GPU GTX 295, the asking price deterred many.

The battle for volume sales happens far lower in the pricing spectrum, clearly, and both NVIDIA and arch-rival ATI need to have compelling discrete cards from, say, £30 to £150. ATI's shown its performance hand last year with a mid-range upgrade in the form of the Radeon HD 4800-series, whilst NVIDIA's been content to extend the longevity of the GeForce 9800 class of GPUs, which, in turn, are based on GeForce 8800 cards.

Long story short, right now, NVIDIA has three options by which to increase the attractiveness of its mid-range wares, priced at between £100-£150. Firstly, it can build an entire programming and application ecosystem around modern GPUs that make them more than just a pixel-cruncher. It's done this, reasonably successfully, with the nascent CUDA-driven and Graphics Plus initiatives, beating ATI to the punch. Secondly, it can reduce the price that it sells various GPUs in to its partners, and the GeForce 9800 GTX+ is currently available from around £115. Lastly, to bring greater performance gains the company can leverage the existing high-end architecture found in GTX 285 (GT200), cheapen it through architecture-cutting maneuvers, and release a £125 card that traces it lineage directly back to GT200.

High-end GeForce 9800GTX video card was originally announced a few short months ago in April of 2008. It seems like a long time ago as the GeForce GTX 280 and HD 4870 cards from NVIDIA and ATI were released and redefined what was the high-end of the video card market and relegated the GeForce 9800GTX to a more mainstream role in the NVIDIA lineup.

ATI’s release of the HD 4850 forced NVIDIA to launch an overclocked version of the 9800GTX called the 9800GTX+. XFX is a solid NVIDIA partner with their entire lineup consisting of NVIDIA based video cards. They have released the GeForce 9800GTX+ to fight the under $200 video card market that is dominated by the HD 4850 cards and today’s review is on that specific card. Previous reviews showed the new 9800GTX+ cards to be a very viable SLI solution.

Panasonic has announced their third Micro Four Thirds camera today. The camera is called Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 and is their smallest Micro Four Thirds camera to date. The DMC-GF1 feature 12.1 megapixels and a 3″ LCD screen with higher resolution (460,000 dots) than the one you find on the Olympus E-P1. Seems like Panasonic has made a very exciting camera with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 and it will probably make the Micro Four Thirds standard even more popular.

Though small in size, the LUMIX GF1 does not compromise in advanced features. The LUMIX GF1 thoroughly optimizes the advantages of a system camera to ensure high performance, whether capturing photos or HD video. The LUMIX DMC-GF1 can record 1280 x 720 High Definition video in AVCHD Lite, a format that enables longer recording times. For instance, Panasonic’s new Scene mode, Peripheral Defocus, lets users take a photo where the foreground is in focus and background is blurred – or vice versa. This popular effect can be intimidating for a beginner, but in the Peripheral Defocus mode, by simply selecting the objects to be blurred and focused using the camera’s keypad, it is simple for photographers of any level.

Also, helping to make the LUMIX GF1 more approachable, Panasonic’s popular iA (Intelligent Auto) mode, a system of technologies that engage automatically – no setting changes needed – allows for intuitive use when shooting still or video images. While shooting video, iA activates Panasonic’s O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization), which helps reduce video-blurring due to handshake. In addition, Face Detection automatically detects a face in the frame and adjusts focus, exposure, contrast, and skin complexion on it so it always turns out beautifully. Intelligent Exposure continually checks the ambient light level and adjusts the exposure setting as conditions change to prevent blown highlights and blocked shadows. For still photos, the iA system encompasses: Face Recognition (up to six faces can be registered); Auto Focus (AF) Tracking; Mega O.I.S.; Intelligent ISO; Intelligent Exposure; and Intelligent Scene Selector.

The LUMIX GF1 also comes fully-equipped with a built-in flash and a large, 3.0-inch Intelligent LCD with a wide viewing angle and a 460,000-dot resolution. The Intelligent LCD offers automatic backlight control, which when combined with its high-resolution, helps improve visibility in all light environments – from sunny outdoors to low-light interior settings. New for the LUMIX G Series, the LUMIX GF1 is compatible with an optional Live View Finder (DMW-LVF1), which provides the full-time live view function boasting 100% field of view regardless of the attached lens. Users can choose from a wide-range of AF modes, including multiple-area AF with up to 23 focus areas; 1-area AF with a selectable focus area; Face Detection; and AF Tracking. The LUMIX GF1 also has a Quick AF function that begins focusing as soon as the user aims the camera - without pressing the shutter button halfway.

As with all Panasonic LUMIX G Series digital cameras, the LUMIX GF1 is equipped with a highly-effective Dust Reduction system. Thus, if dust gets inside the camera (when changing lenses), Panasonic’s Dust Reduction system addresses this problem by placing a supersonic wave filter in front of the Live MOS sensor which vertically vibrates around 50,000 times per second, thus repelling the dust.

The content captured on the LUMIX GF1 can easily be viewed on a Panasonic VIERA® HDTV by simply inserting the SD/SDCH Memory Card into the VIERA’s SD/SDHC Memory Card slot or into a Panasonic DIGA Blu-ray Disc Player. Alternatively, an optional mini HDMI cable can be used to output still and motion images recorded with the LUMIX DMC-GF1 directly to the TV for easy VIERA Link™ operation, with control of playback functions, such as slideshows, managed from the VIERA HDTV’s remote control.

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GF1 will be available in early October 2009 with the option of two kits – both with a suggested retail price (SRP) of $899.95. One kit option includes the newly-announced LUMIX G 20mm/F1.7 ASPH, a compact and lightweight “pancake” lens, while the other kit features the LUMIX G VARIO 14-45mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S. Digital Camera Resource Page has reviewed the new DSLR camera from Canon. The camera is called Canon EOS 500D (also known asRebel T1i in North America and Kiss X3 in Japan) and features an impressive 15 megapixels and video recording.

Digital Camera Resource Page ends up giving the Canon EOS 500D a good review as the camera is able to take pictures of high quality even at higher ISO levels. The large LCD screen is also great with its high resolution and the camera has a lot of nice features.
The reviewer wasn’t too fond of how the camera felt, but that is very individual. The movie mode is also a bit lacking with only 20fps when you record HD movies and there is no auto focus while recording video (a function the Panasonic GH1 have).
Overall you can’t go wrong by purchasing the 500D, but there are other good competitor cameras on the marked that you also might want to check out.

I find Nokia the most user friendly of all the phones. The Nokia N97 is definitely not just eye candy. The specs and features really make this one power-packed phone. I’m not sure if it would be anything close to being an Iphone killer though, IPhone manufacturers seem to have the smartphone market firmly in their hands.

Nokia N97 is one of the best smartphones in the market and is widely known as Nokia’s best fully featured and most powerful phone. Several magazines and newspapers covered a story on Nokia N97 review mentioning that the large touch-display of this phone has refused Nokia fans to switch over to the iPhone. Why not? Well, this article is not based on others review, but we have actually used N97 Nokia for few weeks. We have continuously browsed web, read news, checked several sites and also accessed Facebook application. Below are the details about what we found in it.

Nokia N97 Phone Basics

The sound quality is awesome with powerful sound quality and the dialing of numbers is easy, but dialing a contact is little complex. To browse the contact list there are facilities of either scroll and click or type a name and then click.

The virtual numeric pad (keyboard) easily replaces the physical one in all the applications except in typing a name for dialing. The phone asks, each time while dialing, whether you want to place a video call. There is no point asking every time because it is hardly seen people using video calls. I did not find the option to skip this question.

Well, answering any call, placing on hold or hang up is easy.

Nokia N97 Touch Phone Aspect

Nokia N97 is purely used as a touch phone. Good job by Nokia. The interface is highly user-friendly.

To avoid accidental clicks vs. drag interpretations Nokia has used a double-tap system. This means the first tap is for selecting and the second one is for launching the application.

Few features such as the “Unlock” or “Menu” are only accessible by its hardware buttons and not through the touch display. So, we can say that it is not completely intuitive.

Nokia N97 Responsiveness

If more applications are opened at the same time then the phone becomes slow. There is no “close all apps” icon on homepage. So, one has to close all the apps one by one.

Nokia N97 has one of the best homepage widgets implementation among all other smartphones. In this the widgets are not messy as we found in OMNIA. The screen space is maximum in it. The default homepage has Facebook included. We noticed that sometimes the phone lacked to provide real-time content. Moreover, the widgets cannot be interacted directly from the homepage.

Nokia N97 Text/Email, Mapping and Web Browsing

Nokia N97 has too many email options. Email arrives instantly in it but the phone does not use the cache feature. So, it spends time doing a “sync” from scratch. GMail in it had all the mail server settings.

The default navigation app is the best. The Nokia maps are cache on the device and hence it does not download each time. So, one can pre-load the entire city or country while traveling. This will cut down the roaming charges.

Well, the map is fast with smooth scroll and zoom in/out features. It can send .Imx files that contains geo-position.

The phone is a good browser. Almost every sites were well browsed. Yahoo Finance and Google Docs were equally good on it. Google Sheets had a problem in both the mode, write and also read-only. Adobe Flash Lite was well supported. YouTube was also perfect as a computer.

Conclusion

For the fans of Nokia this is the best smartphone even though there are few shortcomings. Those are forgivable by them. For those who are not in love with the brand Nokia may try some other smartphones.

It sounds amazing. Perfect for a bedroom or office. Very full sound. Pretty awesome how much bass this thing can produce at it's small size. The button layout includes two top buttons, two thumb buttons, a single button on the scroll wheel, and the sensitivity adjustment button.

With a sensitive laser sensor and a driverless approach designed to appeal to hardcore tournament players (who play their most important matches on machines not their own), the Ikari Laser leaves us undeniably stoked. The new Everio is basically a compact video camera that records at full 1920×1080 1080i resolution at 24Mbps in its highest setting. It can take 9-megapixel still images and records directly to an SD/SDHC memory card. It weights 300 grams (.66 pounds) and has a 2.8-inch color screen.

JVC's new "Everio X" GZ-X900 camcorder is just what we like in a flagship device: incredible style, crazy specs, and awesome slow motion video of us slapping people. The GZ-X900 reworks the Everio line into a new brick-like form factor that's bordering on the shape of camcorders of yore, but JVC puts a nice twist to it, and the camera is obviously very compact. JVC used some "premium materials" in the construction and it really shows, but what's more exciting is the high-end 1080p resolution, with 1000 "TV lines" to sample from (it's not upscaling from a completely bum source like many compact camcorders). The unit also works as a fast-action still camera, for 9 megapixel shots at 15 fps, and 5.3 megapixel shots at 60 fps. What we're really wild about is the 600 fps slow motion, which operates at a 640 x 72 resolution -- you can get more pixels at slower frame rates. Unfortunately, none of this good stuff comes cheap: the camera hits retail in June for an even $1000.

Razer Naga

Once again razer is back with a boom in the market. The first ever mouse to be produced with such a vast functionality. If you've played World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online, Eve Online, or other MMOs, you've most likely felt overwhelmed by the number of hot keys required to attack, communicate, and manage your inventory.

Aside from the keypad, the Naga looks like a wired version of the Razer Mamba from earlier this year. Like the Mamba, the Naga has all of the speeds and feeds common to high-end gaming mice, including a 5,600 dpi laser sensor and 1,000MHz polling rate. You won't really need those high-precision settings to master the assisted targeting and timed-attack mechanics in a MMO, but it's hard to find a gaming mouse these days without such crazy settings, so you might as well have them.

Razer also boasts in-game configuration add-ons for World of Warcraft and Warhammer Online for the Naga, which will hopefully simplify mapping the various key commands. And if the Naga is reasonably comfortable and intuitive to use, we can see how it might appeal to other gamers, digital media artists, or users of any other hot key-heavy software.

Razer lists the Naga for $79.99 on its Web site, and says it will be available online "soon."
