So as usual if I'm too busy dealing with life, I tend to neglect this blog. But that's not an excuse right?

I just ended my first quarter in college and thankfully my grade is looking good (now I just have to be consistent!). So, this quarter break will be a time for me to catch up on my side projects including figuring out the direction for this blog. I am planning to buy a domain name and even change the name of this blog or website because there's so much I want to do. It is still in the planning stage so I'm really not putting that on my priority list, as of now. But we'll see.

I believe the secret to a healthy body, mind and soul is through exercising. Exercising has loads of benefits. It's a stress reliever, mood booster, it creates positive energy and makes you feel stronger.

Personally for me, getting into an exercising habit is hard but if there's motivation and a little push, it becomes easier. One important thing is to be consistent. Consistency helps you get used to the workouts and you'll progress faster.

I don't have a gym membership so I do my workouts at home with my husband. We bought a few kettlebells a few months ago so we can get more out of our exercises. Kettlebell helps you build your body strength and it's just a great tool for overall body workout.

I've seen some improvements since I first got my hands on my 8 kg kettle bell. I started with kettlebell swings early this year and it killed me. Now I'm able to do workout routines with the kettlebell for different parts of my body. And since I've gotten used to it, maybe soon I will start practicing with the 12 kg.

In this post, I'm sharing my go to lower body workouts. I keep changing the routines from time to time but so far this one works for me.

1. Goblet squat or sumo squat (20 secs)

2. Lateral lunges (20 secs)

3. Fire hydrants and/or donkey kicks (20 secs)

4. Kettlebell swings (20 secs)

5. Weighted lunges (20 secs)

6. Jumping jacks (20 secs)

Repeat this 5 times. This routine is very flexible so you can just skip the kettlebell if you don't have one. This takes less than half an hour of your time. Do this consistently and you will see results in no time. Happy trying!

Summer is here and I finally got my hands on the Maybelline Fit Me!® Matte + Poreless foundation. A lot of people are raving about this foundation and how it's better than the previous one so I decided to give it a try. I bought mine in shade 125 Nude Beige. The color seems right for me except that this one has a pink undertone. I would purchase a different shade next time. I have worn this foundation 3 - 4 times and I have had it on my face the whole day so I guess I can now talk about this product.

note: Every skin reacts differently to different products. Just because I don't like how it looks on me, that does not mean that it won't look good on others - and vice versa.

Ok, now let's move on to the review.

What the product claims:
1. Matte finish
2. Erases pores
3. Matches natural tone

Formula and application:
Like most drugstore foundations, this one does not come with a pump. It doesn't really bother me but of course I prefer a foundation that comes with a pump. It makes everyone's life easier, right? I applied two coats on my face but I didn't use a lot because I want to review this product as if I'm wearing it as an everyday foundation.

I like the formula because it's not that runny nor thick. It like how it blends so smoothly on the skin and I don't really feel like there's foundation on my face. The coverage of this foundation is between light to medium. So if you want a full coverage you may want to apply primer, concealer and apply another coat. This foundation is buildable. So even if you apply another two or three coats, you'll get a nice coverage but still feel like you don't have too much on your face. I still have visible pimple scars on my cheeks so without concealer you can still see the scars but trust me, in person the foundation looks beautiful after it starts to set. Take your time to apply your makeup because it takes a while for this foundation to set.

Result:
Overall, I would give this foundation 7/10. Does it do what it claims? yes and no. I feel like it does make my pores look almost invisible. It's not completely matte but it does have a nice glowy finish. It doesn't make my skin look shiny but after a few hours I do feel the need to blot my face (Even though my face doesn't look oily when I look at myself in the mirror. I guess it's just a feeling!). The foundation does match my skin tone when I apply it but after a while, the shade became a bit pinkish. So make sure you get the right shade for your face! It does a good job in balancing my skin tone and cover whatever that needs to be covered. It's not a long wearing foundation so you might want to skip this if you're gonna be out the whole day without needing to re-apply your makeup. But anyway, the product doesn't claim to be long lasting so it's not a big issue for me.

So, here's a picture of me with minimal makeup. Maybelline Fit Me!® Matte + Poreless foundation, eye makeup, lipstick, under eye concealer, no setting powder, no blush, no contour but flat hair.

The weekend trip to Oregon was a much needed break for both husband and I since we haven't been on a holiday together for a while. Our journey started quite late on Friday but early enough to avoid the office traffic. We drove down south and reached Lincoln City at night to spend the night there (I love our hotel btw!). The next day, we explored Oregon coast and drove up north towards Portland. It was sweet although there's not much to say about Oregon during the trip. We missed a lot of tourist spots because it was such a short visit but we hope next time we get to explore other parts of the state. Oregon, we'll definitely meet again!

The highlights of our visit:

1. We went to Tillamook Cheese Factory and had their yummy fresh ice-cream.

2. I had the best Indian food in Portland. The restaurant is called Siri India.

3. We had the famous school bus grilled cheese.

4. We drove around some neighborhoods in Portland. I like the buildings. Their designs have character but man, they're almost as expensive as Seattle!

Recently, I've been using coconut oil in my beauty regimen after discovering its benefits. Coconut oil is like an all-rounder in skincare and health because it is good for almost everything you can think of. It is safe to say that I've been using coconut oil on and off for about two months now. I can tell that my skin is a lot softer compared to when I was first introduced to this super oil. I'm only going to talk about the beauty benefits of coconut oil because as far as health is concern, I can't say that every claim is proven to be correct. So I'd rather not write about it because I don't want to give false information.

SOME (AMONGST THE MANY) BENEFITS OF COCONUT OIL:

1. It's an amazing moisturizer

This has been a staple for my beauty routine. I scooped a small amount with my hand and slather it all over my body. I like to top it with my own body lotion because I like my body to have a sweet scent. I do this in the morning after shower and before bedtime. I like how smooth my skin feels when I wake up in the morning. I have tried using it for my face because coconut oil is also known for its ability to fight wrinkles. But after a few days my face started breaking out. I didn't know why so I did some reasearch and it turns out that coconut oil tends to clog pores. So I won't recommend using it as a moisturizer on the face, especially if you have a sensitive skin.

2. It's good for hair and scalp
Coconut oil is rich in nutrients such as Vitamin E and Vitamin K which are good for strengthening, shine and growth of hair. On top of that, it's antifungal and antibacterial properties help in eliminating dandruff and lice. That said, it can help with your baby's cradle cap too! I like to use coconut oil as a hair mask once a week. I scooped out a small amount on my palm and run it through my hair with my fingers, making sure I massage it all over my scalp for a few minutes. Usually I put my hair in a bun and sleep with the mask on.

3. It provides dental hygiene
One thing coconut oil is famous for nowadays is 'oil pulling'. It is an Ayurvedic medicinal ancient practice used for dental hygiene. It involves swishing coconut oil in your mouth for 10 - 20 minutes before spitting it out (source). Oil pulling has a lot of benefits such as boosting immunities, increase overall oral hygiene, whitens teeth, reduces bad breath, balances hormones, clear sinuses, helps with jaw problems and a lot of other benefits. I have not tried this yet but I'm willing to give it a go because of the benefits it has to offer. Here is the right method for oil pulling that I found online:

4. It's a substitute for your makeup remover
Coconut oil may work better than any of your makeup remover. Sure it's oily but it's not hard to remove and wash off. Using cotton pad or your own finger, massage the oil on your dry face making sure you lightly rub in around your eyes especially your lashes. And then take a hot damp cloth and wipe the residue until there's no trace of makeup left on your face. Then was your face with your favorite cleanser. Your face will feel soft and hydrated at the same time.

5. Fights cellulite and stretch marks
Cellulite is one of the beautiful flaws that women have as they age. It's that one flaw that we have to accept naturally. It's the same as wrinkles. It will happen. There are so many laser treatments and commercial products that aim to fight cellulites. But there's also natural ways of fighting it. Coconut oil is known for its benefit to reduce the appearance of cellulite. In case you didn't know, coffee is also known for the same benefit, plus it is a natural exfoliator. You can easily make your own coffee + coconut oil scrub for your body. For pregnant women especially, you can rub the coconut oil all over your belly on a daily basis to prevent stretch marks. I heard that it works!

6. It's a natural healing remedy
Coconut oil contains antibacterial and anti fungal properties. Hence it is a good healing agent. It has proven to heal scars and burns. I'm prone to accidents when it comes to frying food. I've had a few experience when I have oil splattered on my hands while cooking. I immediately applied coconut oil on the affected area. The next morning, I see no trace of burns or redness on my skin at all. Other than that, it's really good for diaper rash, rashes in general and itchyness. I like to use it on the driest part of my body (my legs) because I tend to scratch them in the middle of the night. I notice that I don't have red bumps on my legs anymore. It's like a miracle worker!

Ok I'm a sucker for Bath and Body Works stuff and I use them on a daily basis. The best thing is that they always have sale and I keep getting coupons every time I purchase something in the store. The last time I went on a massive shopping spree was during our last vacation in Seattle. I think it was the semi-annual sale in January. I'm so excited now that the summer semi-annual sale is here. I just need to stock up on some of these stuff.

The sale started this week's Monday and ends early July if I'm not mistaken. It's always better to go early because you wanna grab the stuff you want before they go out of stock. I went on the first day and managed to get a few to add to my collection. The best deal is the 75% off body care items and I think the hand soaps was $3 each. I paid less than $50 for these babies after the discount and I used my $10 off coupon. Now I'm thinking whether I should go back for more.

Our hike to Snowlake started on a very hot Sunday afternoon. The sky was clear and there was no sign of cloud at all. I remember how I hated walking in the sun. I'm crankier and I feel weaker when it's hot. Plus I wasn't feeling a hundred percent but it was the determination that motivated me to go.

If I had to rate the hike, I would say it's between easy to moderate depending on how your stamina is. It's not as steep as Ira Springs Trail but the trail is rocky almost all the way up. I tripped a few times which is not good at all! The hike towards the lake took us approximately 2.5 hours then we took about 15 minutes to relax by the water and enjoy the view and its surroundings.

We spent the next 1.5 hours hiking down towards the parking lot. It's always faster hiking back because the trail goes downhill. It also helped when the weather cooled down a bit so we don't have to stop for a quick water break.

I personally prefer hiking in a cooler weather. But I don't mind hiking in the sun and feeling all sticky for a clear view like this.

Ok I was a bit hesitant to write this post because I don't like to making people lose their job. But I'm not dropping names and at the same time I feel like other people should be aware about giving their money to dishonest people. I was in a situation of feeling cheated which really tested my patience. By writing this, I hope I can save some people from experiencing the same thing as I did.

Most of us have heard some unpleasant stories about wedding photographers. There are so many unethical photographers nowadays doing business. And these people are making the industry look bad. These (amateur) photographers are also making it hard for the pioneers and other great photographers to survive in this wedding business.

To be honest, it's not hard to be a photographer. As long as you know how to pick up a camera, take pictures and edit them, you're on your way to becoming one. It's an easy money-making business but so many people are abusing it. I'm surrounded by people with good photography background so I can differentiate between good photography and bad. I can safely say that only less than 50% of wedding photographers (in Malaysia) can truly be called top-notch photographers (from gathering their team, customer service, communication and delivery).

Quality photographers are so hard to find nowadays. Most photographers are either lacking experience, have no communication skills, attitude problems or just don't know what they're doing - which result to many couples getting cheated by their own photographers. Sadly, my husband and I are among the unlucky ones. I'm not gonna go into details because it was a tiring chasing game for us. All I can say is that we know our way out and we got our pictures from our photographer. We didn't harass nor lose our temper at the guy. Well, he's still a human and whatever he did or problems he claimed he was facing, let that be between him and the Mighty One. (Hint: If you find out who my photographer is, you might not want to go anywhere near him).

Anyway, lesson learned. I realized that wedding is one of those life events that you want to be able to remember forever. It's important to have the right people involved in it. Especially those you're giving your money to. Future bride and groom, please do your research on the people and services you're planning on hiring (from catering to decorations, photographers to makeup artist and other stuff). It's important because after all the stress you go through during the wedding process, you don't wanna be having problems with the people that you're paying for their service.

Photographers should be in the top three priority list because pictures are everything. I listed down a few tips on finding photographers based on my experience (and things I should've done back then). I hope this guide can help you find the best photographers for your wedding day.

1. Set your budget. You have to have a fixed budget for everything. So stick to it and look for a few options based on that budget and your preference.

2. Have a shortlist. Break it into 3 - 5 photographers before you make a decision. It's easier to have a small list so that you're focused on the most ideal options than having so many potentials.

3. Avoid looking for photographers at wedding expo. Chances of them getting overbooked is high especially if they are offering attractive wedding packages. I may be wrong but I can come up with two reasons photographers get involved in these kind of expos: 1. They're desperate for customers and 2. They have customers but they want more so that they can get more money. More reasons to not hire them...

4. Meet your photographers in person. Don't just deal with your photographer via phone or email. The best thing to do is to meet them to discuss the cost, delivery time, the event and any agreement you can make.

5. Chemistry is the key for a comfortable working environment. But it's not easy to have chemistry with your photographer. One of the ways to create chemistry is to have a pre-wedding session with them. Not only this allows you to connect with them, you can also study their style and vice versa.

6. Study their portfolio. Every photographer has their own style of taking pictures right to editing them. You can tell by looking at their portfolio. If their style fit what you want, then go for it. If you're not keen on their style except that their price fits your budget - then you might just have to consider and look at a few other options. Even if you tell the photographers the style of pictures you want them to take, they may not be able to deliver up to your expectation - just because that it's not their style.

7. Put it in paper. Make sure you have everything in black and white in case anything happens. If you list down every detail and have both parties sign the agreement, that means both of you are agreeable to everything listed on the paper. These are the things that you want to put on the paper: How many events, working hours, no. of photographers, no. of albums (size and pages), any extra stuff (posters, canvas pictures, banners), raw pictures and edited pictures, delivery time. This is crucial to make sure that you get your album (3 - 4 months max should be the cut off time).

Misty morning on Ira Springs Trail

Our second week of hiking started on a misty Sunday morning. We decided to go to Mason Lake through Ira Springs Trail since we wanted something slightly challenging than the first hike we did. And boy, it was a pretty damn good workout!

The first part was a smooth hike along the path covered by forest trees. We hiked for over one mile until we reached the end of a straight path - and then the real hike started. The trail elevates as the path zig-zags its way up. It was hell of a climb but definitely not a boring trail. We hiked passed a beautiful green garden, 'flinstones town' and the trail led us all the way down to Mason Lake. We walked halfway around the lake to look for a private spot where we could have our snacks. It felt peaceful out there. Unfortunately, the visibility was very low so we didn't get to enjoy the the lake as much.

Ira Springs Trail took my breath away. It is one of those hikes that you have to experience on a clear day. I was already blown away by the trail even though the weather was not at its best. Imagine being there when the sun is up - exceptionally beautiful!

Recently, I developed a newfound love for flowers and been posting a lot of 'flower-themed' pictures on instagram since. I guess the timing is right because it's the spring season (duh!). But those who have known me forever know that I'm more of a chocolate kinda girl. Because of that, I never received flowers ever in my life up until recently. Yeap, sad truth.

I consider myself a 'flower-newbie' because I still don't know much about them. This week I found out there are different species of roses and I just figured out the name of one of my favourite flowers: Ranunculus (That's how bad I am). My mother-in-law gave me some tips on how to give flowers a longer vase life because she's quite an expert in this area. Based on what I learned, these are the basic 101 on what I do whenever I receive/buy fresh cut flowers. I hope this is helpful for fellow newbies out there.

1. Arrange your flowers in a vase filled with lukewarm water (not hot/cold) immediately after you get your fresh cut flowers.

2. Best to trim the ends of the stems at a 45 degrees angle before you put them in the vase. If I'm not mistaken, it's easier for the flowers to absorb water when cut at a certain angle.

3. Make sure all the leaves and branches stand above the water line. Excess leaves below the water line will encourage the growth of bacteria.

4. Change your water as often as you can because you don't want bacteria to be seating inside the water and "eat" your flowers. Some flowers drink up more water so I usually check the water level every morning. I like to change it every one or two days.

5. Trim the ends of the stems every day or every time you change your water to keep it fresh. Again, cut it at the same angle.

6. Cut any part that looks wilted to keep the flowers looking fresh. If the whole flower looks dead, best to toss it in a compost bin.

Ready to re-arrange my flowers and change the water

I bought a bouquet of mixed peonies with poppies at the Farmers' market. After only two days, I had to throw a few of them away. Pretty sure they weren't that fresh when I bought them :(

Rattlesnake Ledge was our first official hike together in Washington. Although both of us are not gym junkies, we do try to do activities together on a regular basis. We went running together (I must admit it's my least favourite exercise), we tried cycling, we do at-home-workout and since summer is approaching, we are planning to hike around Washington.

I've been to a few hikes in Malaysia but those are nothing compared to the hikes here. The trails are much more challenging and you get to see more here. We chose Rattlesnake Ledge because it's a fairly easy trail and also amongst the famous short hike not so far from where we live.

We drove about 45 mins to North Bend where the trail is and hiked up the foggy/misty trail. It wasn't a good day so we really couldn't see much once we reached the top of Rattlesnake Ledge. We were literally in the clouds.

I saw some really nice pictures of the peak when the skies are clear and they look amazing. If I had known better, I would've chosen to go on a sunny day. But despite the weather, it was still a pretty good first hike (for me) and good experience for both of us.

Two weekends ago on mothers' day, we decided to take a day trip to Deception Pass. We drove up from Seattle to Mukilteo ferry terminal and took a 20 minutes ferry to Whidbey Island where we had our quick lunch. I remember getting to Deception Pass was quite a journey but it was a perfect day trip. I am a nature person so it was worth the trip for me.

Some short history via Wiki: Deception Pass is strait located in the northern part of Puget Sound, connecting Strait of Juan de Fuca and Skagit Bay. A pair of bridges known collectively as Deception Pass Bridge cross Deception Pass, and the bridges are on the National Register of Historic Places.

I couldn't get peonies during our wedding last August so having the flowers in our bedroom now makes me happy. This flower arrangement adds a pop of colour in our room and I love seeing the flowers bloom from day to day.

the getaway in Dubai

Dubai was a stop over during our last trip to the U.S via Emirates. My best friend is a staff so she was kind enough to give us a good deal using her employee benefits. To be honest, if it wasn't for her we wouldn't be thinking about stopping by for a few nights (not this soon at least) or consider flying with Emirates because it is not the cheapest flight you can get. But since it's my husband's dream to visit Dubai, we decided to give it a go.

At the time, it was a perfect time to go because we needed a breather after the last busy weeks we had. The trip was a good pause for both of us before we arrive in the U.S. It felt like a real getaway for three days. The flight to Dubai from Kuala Lumpur took us about 7 hours. It was a tiring journey but flying with Emirates was a pleasant experience.

Exploring Dubai made me realize how similar it is to Singapore. These two cities are known to be very developed and both the governments have that same vision to make their city as a tourist spot and a business hub for its respective region.

I must say that Dubai is the richest place I've been to even though it's the only part of the middle east that I've visited. It feels like a kingdom. The new Dubai (as how they like to call it) is very different from the old Dubai but the best thing is that the old Dubai remains untouched to preserve its history. This is probably one of the reasons why Dubai is listed as one of the best places for tourists. It's not just the cosmetic; how the city is designed to look pretty and classy for tourists and residents, it also protects the authenticity of what Dubai once was. And with everything that is going on in Dubai, I believe will create more job opportunities for individuals and business.

Some guide based on our stay:
Hotel: Hyatt Place (Al Rigga) - We purposely chose a hotel that is near the airport and easy to get to. This hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the Al Rigga train station and it is one stop away from the Old City which is very near the traditional souks and Dubai museum.

What to do:
1. You haven't really been to Dubai if you did not visit Burj Khalifa. Seeing the tallest building in the world makes me wonder; how can anything else be taller than that? It's magnificent. You can also buy ticket to go up to the deck to see the view of the city. It's not cheap but watching the view from above was well worth the money.
2. Walk along Jumeirah beach to get a better view of Burj Al-Arab. In case you didn't know yet, it is known as the world's 7 star luxurious hotel and stands amongst the world's tallest hotels.
3. Desert Safari. There are a lot of desert activities line up in Dubai but be sure to book one from reputable companies. Some companies can offer you a good price but with terrible service so it might leave you feeling unsatisfied.
4. Dubai museum is great place to visit to learn about the history of Dubai.
5. Spice and gold souk offer loads of goodies. Located in the middle of the old city and near the creek.
6. The Palm island is a beautifully done man-made island and this feature is one of the best attractions in Dubai.

You must see Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab with your own eyes!

That's the priceless view from 124th floor of Burj Khalifa

We walked around Jumeira beach and saw this mosque. We like the intricacy of the design.

This henna tattoo was 'supposed' to be complimentary when you book a desert safari tour. Of course it's complimentary when it's tiny. Lesson: when they ask "how big do want?", you ask them "how much?". Well lesson learned.

You get entertained by belly dancers trying to balance a cane on her torso

Walking around a rather quiet Bastakiya quarter. We also spotted this man serving tea with style when we visited the Global Village. I believe this is adopted from a Turkish culture.

The spice souk is a nice place to walk around too. You can find all kinds of spices, tea, scarfs and souvenirs.

A little over a year ago, one of my best friends announced that she's finally getting married to her long time on-off boyfriend and that she wanted us to start saving our money for her destination wedding. I was so excited because I have never been to any destination wedding ever in my life. This would be the first.

The family chose Chiang Mai, the northern part of Thailand to be the place to have their intimate wedding reception. Both husband and I have never visited Chiang Mai so we thought it'd be interesting to attend the wedding and have one or two extra days as tourists. I didn't know much about Chiang Mai but I know the weather is cooler and pretty pleasant compared to the Islands (well of course, Asians like us just love the cool weather!)

We flew from Singapore to Chiang Mai in January via Thai Airways. It wasn't an ideal flight because of the stopover in Bangkok but the timing worked for us so it was our only best option. We arrived in the afternoon, just in time for lunch. After we checked in to our hotel, we managed to have a quick nap and got ready for the wedding in the evening.

The wedding was held in Ratilanna Resort, a luxurious hotel by the river. I must say it was probably the best wedding reception I've attended. The night was all about bringing the close ones together with games and performances with a mix of Thai tradition in the wedding. It was a perfect event.

Going around Chiang Mai is easy because there are Tuk-tuk and songthaew everywhere. These forms of transportation is famous in Thailand and they are considered to be more affordable than taxis. Be careful though, these people tend to overcharge so you always have to bargain! I find the songthaew to be cheaper because it's on sharing basis where else the tuk-tuks are able to accommodate only two people at once. So either way, it depends on what you are comfortable with. Sometimes it also depends on your bargaining skills.

Chiang Mai is interesting because the city presents its own identity. Would I come here again? No. Simply because I have seen what I needed to see there. Even though we didn't do the famous Elephant sanctuary nor did we go to the Tiger kingdom, I think we've seen enough temples and enjoyed walking around the night markets. Not to forget, cheap massage that I always look forward to in Thailand.

Here are some quick guide based on our stay:

Vieng Mantra Lanna - Located in the middle of the old city. It's comfortable enough if you're out and about most of the time. It's just a few steps from the famous Sunday Market and walking distance from some local temples.

What to do:

1. Walk around old city and explore the temples around the area. Wat Chedi Luang is one of the attractions in old city. It's a Buddhist temple that was built 600 years ago.

2. Visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. This temple is located on the hills in Chiang Mai. The temple was commissioned by King Kuena, ruler of the region from 1367-1388.

3. Shop and eat local street food at Sunday Walking Market in Old City and Night Market in Chang Khlan Road.
4. Brave yourself to interact with tigers at the Tiger kingdom. Don't worry I heard they don't bite.

5. Pay a visit to the Elephant sanctuary, which we didn't get a chance to go unfortunately.
6. Massage and spa. It's everywhere so all you need to do is look for a good place (with good bargain) and then you're set.

There's more to Chiang Mai other than temples and markets but it really depends on what you're looking for as tourists. I believe there are also nice waterfalls you can go to and some water sports activities. If you're looking for something different when visiting Thailand, Chiang Mai could be worth a visit.

Traditional Thai dance. Just one of the entertainment at the wedding reception.

Beautiful moment captured in the middle of our group dance

Wat Chedi Luang is only a few minutes walk from our hotel at Old City

It's street food time! There's me just enjoying my Banana pratha. My favourite snack every time I visit Thailand. 100 baht for a whole crab? That's dirt cheap!

The seafood platter was seen at the Sunday Walking Market. That's about 10 dollars. Not bad at all.

Our quest to find a perfect honeymoon destination did not start until the final stage of our wedding planning. Well initially we thought we could postpone our honeymoon until the wedding phase is over. But we were advised to go on honeymoon right after our wedding ceremonies before reality hit us hard. Glad we made that choice.

Bali is a huge island and because there are so many activities and places to go, ground arrangement is extremely important. Car and bike rentals are common among tourists. Traffic can get a little bit crazy and some places have very limited parking space so I would suggest renting a car with a driver to save time. We booked Pak Isme to arrange our tours because I’ve known him since he first started the business back in 2007 when I visited Bali for the first time with my family. When he first started, he had no online connection, no official website and little knowledge about online marketing. Fast forward until today, he has about 14 drivers working with him. It's very helpful that he caters to the Muslim tourist so his drivers would know nice places to get Halal food.

Our first few nights were spent up north in Ubud exploring their arts and culture before we moved down to the central part of Bali for some sun and beaches. We stayed in a nice villa in Seminyak, an up market area in Bali famous for its sunset lounge and coffee joints. From Seminyak, we explored other neighboring areas such as Nusa Dua, Jimbaran and Uluwatu, each has their own unique features.

For those who are into beaches as well as exploring other cultures, Bali is definitely a good balance between the two. I'm not a city person (despite living in the middle of a city myself), so when it comes to holidays I look forward to going to the beach or exploring places that can give me a peace of mind. Bali is definitely one of my favorite places on earth. If anyone need a recommendation on holiday destinations around Southeast Asia, Bali is definitely in my 'must go' list!

Here’s our little Bali guide based on our stay:

1. Gino Ferucci Villa(Ubud)

2. Aria Exclusive Villa (Seminyak)

What to do (obviously there’s more to this but we just didn’t have enough time for everything!):

1. Have lunch while enjoying the scenic view of Mount Batur at Kintamani

2. Take pictures at Tegalallang Rice Terrace

3. Tampak Siring

4. Rent a bike and explore the island

5. Watch the traditional kecak dance at Uluwatu

6. Catch the beautiful sunset at Tanah Lot

7. Go to the beach. There are so many beaches in Bali, from touristy ones to secret hideaways. Just google and look up famous/best beaches in Bali or ask your tour guide for recommendations. You won’t regret your Bali beach day regardless where you go)

Where to eat?

1. Bebek Tepi Sawah

Sunset and lounging:

It's amazing how fast time flies. We've been married for 7 months and still slowly trying to adapt to the changes and this new life. Since the wedding, we have moved, travelled (a lot) and finally settling down at a completely new place and environment. For me at least. I have been unemployed for as long as our marriage and everyday I search for things I can potentially do. I'm not good with hobbies to be honest because all I know was earning. This blog has been around since I can't even remember. I have deleted all of my old postings as a first step of growing this blog and making it more of a lifestyle and hobbies theme, rather than personal.

My goal is to train myself to do something I enjoy doing which is writing. There are a few ideas that I can start with to build the contents and most of it are the stuff than I have been doing and are planning to do. Some of the list are:

1. Travel

2. Organising and home improvements

3. Lifestyle

4. Art (I plan to practice my painting)

5. DIY
