Truck crushes man to death in Ilorin on Agust 9th 2011

ILORIN Tragedy struck weekend at Offa garage area of Ilorin as a Volvo truck with number plate XW 795 AGL carrying goods cut a man believed to be a technician in his early thirties.

The gory accident occurred along Offa-Garage Road, around Romiechs International School at about 1.30 pm.

Before the technician died, he was heard shouting for help and struggling on his own to free himself from the wreckage.

Eyewitnesses said that efforts to save his upper trunk could not pay off as he died before he could be taken to hospital.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that the deceased was riding a commercial motorcycle popularly called “Okada” when the bike ran into the fateful truck.

Further account revealed that the deceased whose name unknown at the time of filing this report was said to have been called for a job by one of his customers.

It was this development according to the source, which made him to dash out of his office only to meet an untimely death.

An eyewitness, AbdulGaniy Sodiq, who later spoke with newsmen said before his death, the deceased managed to utter in faint voices that he was living at Opo-Malu area of the metropolis, pointing to a telephone handset in his pocket that people were not too eager to remove because of his critical condition.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck allegedly took to his heels before the mob could arrive the scene.

No one could, however, pursue him as they were all engrossed in the pitiable condition of the dying man.

When contacted, the Kwara Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Yusuf Salami confirmed the incident and the death of the late technician. He said the body had been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
