Satellite Internet Access

Satellite Internet Access is Internet access provided through satellites. The service can be provided to users world-wide through Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. Geostationary satellites can offer higher data speeds, but their signals can not reach some polar regions of the world. Different types of satellite systems have a wide range of different features and technical limitations, which can greatly affect their usefulness and performance in specific applications.

System hardware components

The transmitting station (also called "teleport", "head end", "uplink facility", or "hub") has two components :

Internet connection: The ISP's routers connect to proxy servers which can enforce quality of service (QoS) bandwidth limits and guarantees for user traffic. These are then connected to a DVB encapsulator which is then connected to a DVB-S modulator. The radio frequency (RF) signal from the DVB-S modulator is connected to an up converter which is connected via feed line to the outdoor unit.
Satellite uplink: The block upconverter (BUC) and optional low-noise block converter (LNB), which may use a waveguide to connect to the optional orthomode transducer (OMT) which is bolted to the feed horn which is connected by metal supports to the satellite dish and mount.

At the remote location (Earth station) the setup consists of:

Outdoor unit
- Satellite dish with mount
- Feedhorn
- Universal LNB, for Ku-band.
- Feed line
Indoor unit
- DVB-S Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) card internal to a computer.
- or, DVB external modem where an 8P8C (RJ-45) Ethernet port or a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port connects the modem to the computer

System software components

Remote sites require a minimum of programming to provide authentication and set proxy server settings. Filtering is usually provided by the DVB card driver.

Often, non-standard IP stacks are used to address the latency and asymmetry problems of the satellite connection. Data sent over the satellite link is generally also encrypted, as otherwise it would be accessible to anyone with a satellite receiver.

Many IP-over-satellite implementations use paired proxy servers at both endpoints so that certain communications between clients and servers do not need to accept the latency inherent in a satellite connection. For similar reasons, there exist special Virtual private network (VPN) implementations designed for use over satellite links because standard VPN software cannot handle the long packet travel times.

Upload speeds are limited by the user's dial-up modem, and latency is high, as it is for any satellite based Internet (minimum of 240 ms one-way, resulting in a minimum round-trip time of almost 500ms). Download speeds can be very fast compared to dial-up.

Theory of Operation

Remote sites use proxy server or(and) Virtual private network servers at the earth station (teleport), which is configured to route all outbound traffic to the QoS server, which makes sure no user exceeds their allotted bandwidth or monthly traffic limits. Traffic is then sent to the encapsulator, which puts the IP packets inside of DVB packets. The DVB packets are then sent to the DVB modem and then to the transmitter (BUC)

Computerworld Malaysia is reporting that Broadband over Powerline (BPL) provider Velchip Sdn Bhd has formalised three major partnerships to advance the world’s biggest BPL project announced earlier this month. The project intends offering 60 million people unlimited high speed Internet connection of 224Mbps (megabits per second) at a cost of only around RM5 (US$1.58) per user per month. It’s the fastest and cheapest internet connectivity in the world.

BPL modems use existing electrical power lines to deliver high speed Internet access and data transmission.

Velchip is a Pinnacle worldwide partner of the upcoming World Congress on Information Technology, to be held in Kuala Lumpur in May this year. Computerworld Malaysia is the official IT media for the WCIT.

Microsoft has recently released the new browser Internet Explorer version 8 and IE 8 has won the hearts of many people with its new features. I must admit I also have been using Firefox before that primarily because of all the features were better in Firefox along with its addons.

Internet Explorer 8 has good list of features as mentioned earlier and also has more speed than its earlier version IE7. IE8 is facing stiff competition with other browsers like Mozilla Firefox. But Microsoft has taken tremendous amount of effort to bring the standards in IE8 as they have been trying with Windows 7 also.

IE8 is indeed faster than Firefox but its too hard to notice the difference. So the browsing speed of IE8 has undergone some major changes and yet with a simple changes you can increase the speed even better.

So, to increase your IE8 speed much more :

1. Go to Start > Run

2. Open the command prompt with admin rights (type cmd in Run).

5 Tips To Increase Your Adsense Revenue

Bloggers can make cash in with Google’s AdSense network. Instead of posting blinking lights, cheap animation and a bobbing and bouncing monkey (or the paper football, although I totally rock at that one) Google matches vertical or horizontal blocks of text with the content of the web page. The ads don’t blink or jump around. Instead, they match or relate to the topic at hand, so the reader isn’t seized with the immediate need to get it off the screen right now no matter what it costs.

Traffic goes up, income goes up. Making money on the Internet – it may be the World Wide Web’s Holy Grail. Still, despite the simplicity, there are several steps savvy bloggers can take to give AdSense added oomph.

Here are some other almost obvious tips:

1* Don’t make it boring. Boring equals bad. More importantly, boring drives readers away in two clicks. No one wants to read for three days straight why organizing your closet via season, not color, makes sense. Try to keep content fresh and continually updated. The more often people check in to see what else is going on in your world, the more often you hear cha-ching. Wash-rinse-repeat a few times, and you have created a loyal and happy reader.

2* Make it easy to read. People cannot read blue text on a black screen! Keeping the layout simple and clean is the easiest way not to screw anything up. A general rule calls for placing an advertisement “above the fold,” or in place on the first portion of the screen before any scrolling is required.

3* Think about ad placement. Don’t try to squish a horizontal advertisement into a vertical one. Google provides plenty of ad options from including a link to placing an ad in the middle of some text so no need exists to use the wrong ad. If you don’t know what size to make an idea, going too wide will look the best.

4* Listen to your readers. Most of them are not to hesitant to give an honest opinion of a new advertisement type or content or anything else for that matter. If moving all your ads to the bottom of a rambling ode to your dead parakeet causes income to crash, then, well, maybe you shouldn’t do that. Consider making small, gradual changes and watching your traffic numbers.

5* Remember why you started blogging. Bloggers blog for fun, for release, for a creative jolt and any other number of reasons. But, usually, not because the idea of sitting at the computer makes them think of a dentists’ drill. If it stops being fun for you, your readers will likely realize it. And who wants to be around that guy? If you find your self in a slump, give yourself permission to take a day or two off. Then, think about why you do this and what you want out of it. Plus, it’s totally an addiction, so after a day or two you will be itching to get back.

Just because it took surfers years to almost literally rising up in arms against pop ad is no reason your blog can’t start earning money now. Follow these tips and let Google’s AdSense do most of the work.

For those who still don’t know what Adsense is, it is a pay-per-click advertising program which website publishers can use to monetize their websites.

The first thing you need to know about Adsense is it is not a program where you can earn money easily. Well to said, your website or your blog need lots of traffic to take full advantage of this program. Now, you must be wondering on how to improve your website traffic. From my experience,for the first time my website receive very little hits per day which is about 30-50 hits. Its really bad and to solve the problems, I have use these methods:

1. Add good content

2. Do a SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

3. Improve the site layout

When I added good content to the website, website traffic increases to 100 hits per day. Website visitors is always hungry to find new information in the net. Regardless what is the type of your website/blog is, you must create a truly original content for it. Don’t spend your time searching for free artilces because Adsense really don’t like duplicate contents.

Another tips is let your visitors know what your website/blog offers to its visitors. Create a section for your new website visitors what they can gain by visiting your website/blog. Suggest them to comment on your entry so that they will feel they are belonging to your blog/website.

From their comment and suggestion, you can improve your website/blog more. Now, thats for the section for getting website traffic.

The next factor that you must take care is SEO which means Search Engine Optimization. Search engine that we will focus is Google. Google receive million search per day. you can imagine a lot of people go to Google everyday to search for information. If you’re lucky they will find your website. But it’s not an easy way to do because SEO need lots of hard work and patience. The first thing you need to do when you have a website/blog is by giving its url to Google so that its crawler can search your pages and then include them in Google search engine. Google and Adsense should create an actual test that would prove that users of their system understand and can follow their guidelines. Not unlike the agreements candidates sign when taking 70-536 and 642-845 exams from Microsoft, fraudulent use of Adsense makes it increasingly difficult for us all. The test should be easier than Comptia’s 220-602 but as inclusive as the EX0-101 exam.
