TOPIC: GRACE TO REIGN OVER FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS DATE: 22 -05-2016

INTRODUCTION:

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, we have received abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness to reign in life. So, grace and righteousness are two powerful forces given to empower new creation in Christ to reign over the forces of financial hardships. The Holy Scriptures is replete with cases where God’s people were exempted and shielded from calamities and famines as demonstrations of God’s grace and glory. Our God is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb. 13:8).

No matter the severity of hardships and difficulty in the land, if God’s people can stand in the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness made available to us in Christ, our souls shall be delivered from famine. In Psalms 33:18-19 and Psalms 37:18-19, God’s assurances are very certain that we shall not be ashamed in evil times and in the days of famine we shall be satisfied.

How do the forces of grace and righteousness serve as “weather proofs” for the saints against financial hardships?

1. Grace

In 2 Cor. 9:8, God is able to make His grace abound towards us (God’s people), so that in all things and in all times we will always have more than enough to abound in good works. God gives His grace and glory as sun and shield to ensure that no good thing is withheld from His people (Ps. 84:11-12).

Isaiah prophesied that when the darkness covers the earth and gross darkness His people, God will arise upon us (because of His grace) and His glory shall be seen upon us to distinguish us from the darkness. In gen. 6:6-8, Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord and he and his family were exempted from the holocaust sent to consume mankind. That ark he built was a type or shadow of Jesus Christ today as a new creation is entering the ark of exemption.

2. Righteousness

The Bible says hardships are meant to be the experiences of transgressors/sinners (Prov.13:15). God does not allow the righteous and the sinners to suffer the same fate (Ps.37:18-20). In the days of Abraham and Isaac, there was famine, but they came out stronger after the famine than they were before it (Gen.12:10; 13:1-2; Gen 26:1, 12-14). The grave of hardship is too small to hold the righteous (Ps.16:10).

There is therefore no better time for the believers to stand in faith appropriating the forces of grace and righteousness than now. We must get ourselves to believe in what Christ has accomplished to provide abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness to reign over financial hardships. The faith of the believer is a believing and a speaking faith (2 Cor.4:13; Rom.10:6-9). We should therefore not fear what the people of the world fear and talk the way they talk. The New Testament faith is released in speaking the word of God.

TOPIC: OPERATING THE HIGHER LIFE IN CHRIST PART 2 DATE: 08 -05-2016

INTRODUCTION:

During the teaching of last week, we stated that salvation is a movement from the lower realm of life in the world into a higher realm of life in Christ. This movement was powered by man’s redemption and forgiveness of sin accomplished by Jesus Christ through His blood (Col. 1:12-14).

Our redemption through our Lord Jesus Christ provides the platform for our operating in the higher life in Him. We have already been delivered from the powers of darkness that held sway in the lower realm of this world and translated (carried to a higher realm) in Christ. No wonder Jesus said in John16:33 that in Him we shall have peace but in the world we shall have tribulations. This clearly affirms that there are two realms of living viz: Life in Christ (the higher realm) and life in the world (the lower realm). Redemption moves the believer from life in the world where the powers of darkness hold sway to Life in Christ; where Jesus reigns (Colo.1:13). For the believer to operate in the reality of the new realm he/she has been lifted to function, his/her thinking has to be transformed through the renewal of his mind (Rom.12:2).

The believer has to begin to think and operate in God’s higher thoughts and ways (Isa.55:8-9). He/she has to have a working knowledge of the great accomplishments made during his redemption. Last week we dealt with three of such accomplishments. Today we shall look at two other accomplishments of redemption. They are:

1. Jesus Christ has fulfilled the law (Matt. 5:17).

To be blessed under the law was conditional (Deut.28:1-2); such conditions were too hard to meet. Jesus clearly stated that His mission was not to abolish the law but to fulfill it. To fulfill means to meet its demands. Jesus has met all the demands of the law on our behalf. Obeying the law no longer determines our right relationship with God; but believing in what Jesus has accomplished via His work of redemption. When Jesus fulfilled the law, He met all the demands of the law unconditionally. We are no longer bound by the demands/responsibilities of the law.

Peter said the forefathers of the Jews could not bear the weight and the yoke the law placed on them (Acts15:10-11). No wonder Jesus said we should come unto Him all those struggling under the heavy weight of the Law and we shall find rest in Him. He said His burden was light and His yoke was easy (Matt.11:28-30).

2. Jesus Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law (Gal.3:13)

The curse includes all the negative consequences that go with failure to meet the demands of the law. The conditions to be met under the law before receiving blessings no longer hold. Jesus met all the conditions on our behalf once and for all.

These curses are 3-fold

1. The curse of death.

2. The curse of poverty.

3. The curse of sickness.

TOPIC: JESUS CHRIST: THE END OF ALL OF MAN’S STRUGGLES
TEXT: JOHN 14:6; 1 TIM. 2:5-6;
Jesus Christ is the end of all struggles man is going through. The woman with the issue of blood was plagued with an illness that could not be healed with man’s prescriptions, she suffered for so many years but when she met Jesus her struggles came to an end ( Mark5:25-34). No wonder He said " come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matt.11:28-30. Many are already in Christ but are still running from pillar to post struggling and looking for solution to their problems. This is largely because many churchgoers do not know JESUS CHRIST. Some Christians only know Him as a punctuation sign in their prayers. In church today, we teach all kinds of things except teachings centred on Jesus Christ. The people's faith are on many mundane things ( sinking sand), rather than on Jesus Christ (the Solid Rock).

Jesus Christ revealed Himself as the Alpha and Omega. The Lord Jesus Christ is both God and mediator between God and man. There is only one mediator between God and man; that is the man of Jesus Christ. Jesus was God who took on human flesh for the sake of man’s redemption (1 Tim.2:5-6). Jesus Christ though God Almighty emptied Himself of everything that made Him God in order to become a man (Phil. 2:6-8).
It is through Jesus all of God’s ways and eternal purposes are made manifest or known. Outside of Jesus, God remains a mystery. Jesus Christ is the unbundling of the mystery of God. Jesus Christ is not God’s assistant, neither is He one of the Gods in heaven, Jesus Christ of Nazareth is God.

Jesus answered Philip, “whoever has seen me has seen the father”. The father is Jesus and Jesus is the father (John 14:8-9). God is seen in the person of Jesus.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT JESUS CHRIST (JOHN 1:1-5, 14)
>The Word which is God Almighty Himself was made flesh
>His name was not Jesus before He came into the world.
In the pre-creation, he was not called Jesus, but “The Word”.
>It was for the sake of man’s redemption He had to come to now have a name.
The name was to carry the symbol of His assignment to the world.

UNVEILING THE NEW CREATION IN CHRIST JESUS.

The unveiling of the believer is tied to the revealing if Christ. The new creation believer is created in the image and likeness of the resurrected Christ, i.e the last Adam. And it is from this source he/she draws his being, nature or life (Eph. 4:24, 2Peter 1:2-4). The greatest good we can do for a believer is to help him/her to know who he/she has become in Christ. The faith that the new creation is required to live by is activated by these knowledge and understanding (Philemon:6).

Paul’s greatest prayer for the New Testament churches he founded was for them to have revelation knowledge and spiritual understanding (Ephes. 1:17-21; Colo. 1:9-11). This is because the things many Christians are struggling to get have already been given to us in Christ (Eph. 1:3). We need knowledge to enjoy them.

THINGS TO KNOW

1. The new creation is blessed in the heavenly realm with all spiritual blessings.

The new creation has no past, so he cannot suffer any form of curse. So, every enablement/empowerment he needs spiritually to succeed and become the best has been given to him in Christ. The blessing of the new creation is not subject to the law or based on what he does or does not do (Deut. 28:1-2 VS Ephe.1:3). The blessing upon the new creation is superior or above any curse on the earth. The new creation is blessed above all people. The faith of Christ is what the new creation needs to convert the blessings in the spiritual realm into physical reality. All that the new creation needs to make things happen is to believe in Jesus Christ. John6:28-29; and to speak what the word says 2Corint.4:13. Whatever is too big for your mouth (to speak) will be too big for your hand to handle.

2. The new creation has the mind of Christ (1Cor. 2:6-16)

The believer by the virtue of the Spirit of God at work in his mental facilities has unlimited mental powers and capabilities. The new creation is able to gain access to secrets in God’s mind because God’s spirit indwelling us is able to reveal God’s mind to us in every situation. The Spirit or the power of Christ working within us is able to bring to pass our desires expressed in words and conceived in our imaginations (Eph. 3:20). In Gen.11:1-9 we see how powerful and unstoppable is the imaginative capacity of man even in his fallen state. The City of Dubai is an Emirate (like a state) in the country of U.A.E; but unredeemed minds engaging their imaginative ability thought up the idea and are following through with it. How much more could the new creation believer capable of doing.

Since the New Creation has the mind of Christ, he is also able to function under the powerful influence of the spirits of the Lord, wisdom, knowledge, understanding, counsel etc which empowered JESUS mentally to operate in superior mental prowess. Isaiah11:1-3. He was able to judge things beyond the physical eyes and ears.

How can the new creation operate in this reality? Isaiah55:8-9.

1. Thinking the thoughts of God

Renew your mind by meditating on the words of God. You sharpen your mind as you rub it with the thoughts of God. Seek to know and believe all that you have become in Christ.

2. Operate or function like God

God functions through faith. God’s actions are motivated by love.

Salvation is a movement from the lower realm of life in the world into a higher realm of life in Christ. Redemption and forgiveness of sin were obtained through the blood of Jesus Christ. The life of Christ was offered as a ransom for our redemption. It was an eternal redemption that flows to all generations of mankind (Mark 10:45). The value and integrity of our redemption cannot be corrupted because of the kind of price paid for it (1 Peter 1:18-19).

We were not redeemed with corruptible things like money (which loses value and purchasing power) but by the precious blood of Jesus Christ – A lamb without blemish and without spot.

We were chosen in Christ before the world began, even before Adam was created. It was not after Adam’s sin that God determined our redemption; it was before the foundation of the world. Before there was Satan, sin and death, God already had the plan of redemption in place. The plan of redemption was put in Jesus Christ. To operate in the Higher or Superior life in Christ Jesus we must have a working knowledge of what Jesus Christ has accomplished for us via the work of Redemption.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF REDEMPTION

1. We have been made accepted in the blood of Christ (Eph. 1:4-7)

This forms the basis of our holiness and purity. They are attainable when we are in Christ. Jesus’ coming to the earth was to execute the blue-print of man’s redemption. No effort of man to be holy or maintain the highest level of morality can meet God’s standard of holiness and righteousness. On the cross, a divine exchange took place: Jesus took our sin and gave us His righteousness (2 Cor.5:21). Receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness and reign in life (Rom.5:17).

2. Redemption makes it possible for man to receive and enjoy the free gift of God; which is eternal life.

Eternal life is the ultimate gift to humanity in Christ Jesus. It is the heart of Christianity. In Adam we all died, but now in Christ, we have been made alive (1 Cor. 15:21:22). The Higher life in Christ is powered by the highest level and quality of life ZOE. This life was implanted in every born again believer at the instance of his accepting Jesus Christ as the Lord of his life. His/her human life (psuche) was replaced with eternal life (Zoe)… 1John5:11-13.

3. Jesus, through His redeeming mission has taken away sin (John 1:29).

The scriptures give us understanding that sin is primarily a nature that expresses itself in sinful acts. We can deduce from the above that sin is not a behavioral problem, but a nature. The work of redemption deals with the sin issue from its root by offering us an opportunity to have a change of nature. It is therefore wrong to subject people to spiritual, mental and physical drills to free them from sin or behavioral challenges in the name of deliverance. Teach them Jesus Christ and the realities of His accomplishments in our redemption, their minds will be transformed to operate in the Higher life we have been translated into. When a believer attains the realm he begins to see sinful tendencies and acts as bringing him/herself into lower things. It is only dogs that return to their vomit.
