The late 1960s and the early 1970s were the golden years for rock music's one-hit-wonders. Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" was probably the best of the lot.

But another great one was "Indiana Wants Me" by R. Dean Taylor.

This song come to mind after the Chicago Bears announced they are pursuing a move to Hammond, Indiana.

Indiana wants them.

This song, however, has a much different narrative, it's about a husband who kills a man in Indiana after he insulted his wife.

One indulgent track is the jazzy "Summertime in England." The studio version is 15 minutes long. Nine years later, the Belfast Cowboy performed a powerful, and much better, six-minute version at a London jazz club.

The Clash: The Street Parade

While the Clash's Sandinista! album, in my opinion, has aged poorly, this song still stands out. And it's an ignored track, "The Street Parade," despite the bizarre sound effects that kick it off.

I suspect that Topper Headon, the Clash's drummer and a huge fan of Stax and Motown, was behind it. Because this tune has a real soul feel to it.
