BBC denies 'Doctor Who' reunion reports

The BBC has denied speculation of an "all-Doctors reunion" for this year's Children In Need.

The Mirror claimed that all ten incarnations of The Doctor would appear together in a 15-minute episode to be shown as part of the annual telethon in November.

The special would see David Tennant's Doctor calling on his nine predecessors to help him find a missing piece of Time Lord apparatus. The actors who portrayed the first three Doctors - William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee - are all deceased but would be represented by archive footage.

The report also claimed that the special would mark the first appearance of Matt Smith as the Doctor, although Smith is not due to take over from Tennant in the titular role until early 2010.

A spokesman told the newspaper: "Nothing has been finalised yet, although there is discussion of a Children in Need Doctor Who special. It is too early to say what."

Doctor Who - Creators & Cast at Comic-Con

BBC America announced that it is bringing the cast and creators of Doctor Who, Torchwood and Being Human to Comic-Con International in San Diego next month.

Doctor Who star David Tennant will appear alongside writer/executive producer Russell T. Davies at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego, BBC America announced. They will take part in a Doctor Who panel, along with executive producer Julie Gardner and director Euros Lyn, July 26 at 10 a.m. PT.

Tennant will travel to San Diego having shot his final scenes as the 10th Time Lord. He and fellow panelists will discuss the latest incarnation of television's longest-running science fiction series and take questions from the floor. There will also be exclusive sneak peeks from the upcoming specials, which will debut on BBC America.

The stars and makers of Torchwood will also make an appearance 48 hours after the last episode of Children of Earth airs on BBC America with a panel featuring star John Barrowman, writer/executive producer Davies, executive producer Julie Gardner and director Lyn, July 26 at 2:15 p.m.

Being Human's creator and writer, Toby Whithouse, plus lead actors Russell Tovey, Lenora Crichlow and Aidan Turner will appear at the same panel to talk about the inspiration for the show and what it's like to play three twentysomethings with secret double lives: as a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost. All four panelists will be signing exclusively at the BBC America booth on July 25 at 3 p.m.

New Doctor Who Matt Smith will reportedly face the Daleks in one of his first on-screen adventures.

Producers of the cult BBC sci-fi show have decided to bring back the Time Lord's arch nemeses to mark Matt's debut as the Doctor next year, according to the Daily Star.

A source claimed: "Fans may take a while to get used to Matt as the Doctor so it makes sense to have him fight his most famous enemies."

The 26-year-old is taking over from David Tennant, 38, as the 11th Doctor Who in the spring of 2010.

Show bosses apparently plan to "step back in time" with their Tardis make-over for the new series, giving it blue walls and white windows, reminiscent of the 1960s time travelling vehicle.

WEDDING fever will hit Doctor Who - with three of the Timelord's former sidekicks getting hitched, TV Biz can reveal.

They will all get wed as Who star David Tennant bows out of the show,

We previously told how all the time-travelling hero's assistants will return for Tennant's final scenes on the BBC1 sci-fi hit later this year.

Fans will see Rose Tyler - played by Billie Piper - marry the half-human clone of the Doctor in their parallel universe.

Meanwhile, Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) - her replacement as assistant - will tie the knot with Mickey Smith (Noel Clarke).

Tennant will also make a special guest appearance in the CBBC spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures for the wedding of his former companion Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen).

Executive producer Russell T Davies said: "Viewers thought they may have to wait until November for the next full episode of Doctor Who - but this is an extra special treat."

Comedian Catherine Tate, who plays sidekick Donna Noble, will also reunite with Tennant, 38, for his finale.

He will be replaced in the next series by 26-year-old Matt Smith, who will become the 11th Doctor.

A show source said: "Fans won't be disappointed by the new Doctor and they're in for a treat with the new series - which will include the return of the ultra-scary Weeping Angels."

Meanwhile, we can reveal that Tennant has signed up for even more Doctor Who episodes - as a cartoon.

The Scots star has already recorded seven new animated shorts. They will also feature his real-life girlfriend Georgia Moffett, who played the Doctor's daughter in the 2008 series.

Russell said the six-minute episodes - called Dreamland - will feature "truly exotic aliens and locations, in a beautiful, rich script full of history and imagination".

He added: "Voice recordings have already been completed - including David Tennant as the Doctor of course.

"And we're delighted to welcome Georgia Moffett back to the fold."

But Russell said the cartoon series would not see a return for the Doctor's daughter - as Georgia, 24, will be playing a brand new character called Cassie Rice.

The series - which will air on CBBC - will be the second animated Who story to star Tennant.

He appeared in The Infinite Quest two years ago.

Russell will give way to Steven Moffat as the show's lead writer and executive producer in 2010.

But he hinted at yet ANOTHER outing for Tennant as the Timelord.

He said: "With the Doctor's appearance in The Sarah Jane Adventures as special project one, and the Dreamland animation as special project two, it would be nice to round things off for Doctor Who in 2009 with a special project three. We're working on it."

Rumours abound that Russell is working on a Doctor Who movie which could star Tennant.

Doctor Who - DVD & High-Def Blu-Ray Releases of Planet of the Dead Special

The first Doctor Who installment ever to be shot in high-definition will come home on both standard DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc this July 28th, when BBC Video and Warner Home Video release Doctor Who - Planet of the Dead just two days after this special appears for broadcast on BBC America. This is one of 4 specials (five, if you count the 2008 Christmas Special) that wrap up David Tennant's time as the 10th Doctor. In it, he co-stars with Michelle Ryan, recently seen in the remake of Bionic Woman.

Each comes on a single disc running roughly an hour. Additionally they each have a one-hour "Doctor Who Confidential" behind-the-scenes look, as a bonus. The DVD will cost $14.98 SRP, while the Blu-ray version costs $19.89 SRP. This is releasing on the same day as Torchwood - Children of Earth on DVD and Blu-ray, and the Torchwood - The Complete 2nd Series Blu-ray edition...and all in time to be celebrated at the San Diego Comic Con!

Doctor Who Assistant Is Unveiled

Little-known actress Karen Gillan has been unveiled as the next assistant in Doctor Who. The 21-year-old will star alongside new Time Lord Matt Smith in the new series, to be broadcast next year.

Gillan has already appeared in the drama, having played a Soothsayer in The Fires Of Pompeii in the last run.

"I am absolutely over the moon at being chosen to play the Doctor's new companion. - I just can't wait to get started," she said. "The show is such a massive phenomenon that I can't quite believe I am going to be a part of it. Matt Smith is an incredible actor and it is going to be so much fun to act alongside him," she added.

Head of Drama, BBC Wales, Piers Wenger said she brings "energy and excitement" to the role.

"When she auditioned alongside Matt we knew we had something special," he said.

Writer and executive producer Steven Moffat said they saw some "amazing actresses" but Gillan "walked through the door the game was up". He described her as "funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it".

"A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too," he added.

Gillan, from Inverness, developed a love for acting after attending several youth theatre groups and taking part in various school productions. At the age of 16, she decided to pursue her career further and left school to study acting at Edinburgh's Telford College. She went on to secure a place at the Italia Conti drama school in London and landed her first role in the Scottish drama Rebus. Parts in Channel 4's Stacked, The Kevin Bishop Show and James Nesbitt's forthcoming film Outcast followed, but the role in Doctor Who is her first high profile to date.

Not only is Billie Piper back for a cameo in David Tennant's final episodes, so is her on-screen mom, Camille Coduri. The two filmed a scene where they walk through the Powell Estate, and they're having a bit of an argument. Then they hug and make up. Jackie tells Rose happy new year and tries to tell her not to stay out all night. "Try and stop me," Rose replies. Then she comes around the corner and runs into the Doctor, who's staggering and convulsed with pain, clutching the wall. He asks her what year it is, and she says 2005. (So Rose hasn't actually met the Doctor yet.) He tells her he's sure she'll have a fantastic year. Then he has a startling confrontation with Ood Sigma, whom he also meets in this fall's "Waters Of Mars." The Daily Mail article also repeats the earlier, somewhat suspect, claim that Claire Bloom is playing "the Doctor's mother." Science fiction pin-up Gillian Anderson is being lined up to join the cast of Doctor Who as a new deadly enemy of the Time Lord.

Sources say programme chiefs want the London-based X-Files star to appear opposite the new DoctorMatt Smith in a one-off adventure next year. It’s understood the American actress could play renegade Time Lady The Rani, a glamorous but evil scientific genius previously played in the series by Kate O’Mara in the Eighties.

“Gillian obviously has a massive sci-fi following and it’s felt it would be a major coup to have her appear in Doctor Who,” says a show insider. “The team behind the show are keen for the next Doctor to have lots of new enemies and Gillian would be a glamorous and impressive addition to the list. The Rani would be a perfect role for her as the character used to be regarded as one of the Doctor’s most deadly opponents.”

Anderson, 40, recently appeared in a big screen version of The X-Files along with co-star David Duchovny. In recent years she has enjoyed critical acclaim as an actress, appearing in the BBC’s Bleak House and hit film The Last King Of Scotland. She is currently preparing to star alongside former Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston next month in A Doll’s House at the Donmar Warehouse in London’s West End.

“It would undoubtedly be regarded as one of those great sci-fi moments if the star of The X-Files gets to clash with the Doctor,” gushes our mole with the sonic screwdriver.

Doctor Who - Cribbins is David Tennant's final companion

David Tennant's final Doctor Who companion has been revealed, and it's a familiar face to fans of the Time Lord.

Doctor Who boss Russell T Davies has said that Bernard Cribbins - who played Donna Noble's grandad - will be back at Christmas as a companion.

Davies added that it will be a packed end to the year, with a special in November and a two-parter at Christmas.

So does that mean Donna will be back too? And if so will she still be unable to remember her adventures?

And internet rumours suggest other characters could be back too for Christmas, as the actors who play them have been spotted on the film set.

We don't want to give anything away, but it seems like the Tardis could be packed tightly before Tennant hands over the keys to a new actor.

But while those episodes are a long way off yet, there is a brand new one being shown on Saturday.

Ex-BBC Newsround presenter and uber fan Lizo Mzimba has reported, via Twitter, that the first of this year's Doctor Who specials is still not finished.

Tweeting on the social networking site the BBC presenter said: "No press launch. It won't be finished in time." The press launch for Planet of the Dead was due to take place this week but this is not the first time that a Doctor Who episode has gone straight from the editing room to the screen. Even last year's series finale was not shown to any press before its broadcast on BBC One.

Showrunner Russell T Davies has assured the fans that the episode will be finished in time whilst also adding that the title and a preview of the next special will be shown at the end of Planet of the Dead, airing Saturday 11th April, 6.45pm. It will be repeated the next day on BBC Three and then on Easter Monday on BBC One at 5pm.

As the first special approaches the promotion for Doctor Who hots up with David Tennant and Catherine Tate sitting in for Jonathan Ross on his Radio 2 show on April 11th. John Barrowman is their guest along with The Proclaimers. One-off companion Michelle Ryan can also be seen on Wednesday's edition of the BBC children's programme, Blue Peter.

Filming on David Tennant's final Doctor Who story has begun today with the return of the actor Bernard Cribbins.

Cribbins, who plays Donna Noble's grandfather Wilf, was last seen in the Series 4 finale, Journey's End and first appeared in Doctor Who in the 1966 film, Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150AD.

The legendary actor was spotted on set in Tredegar House where Who has filmed a number of times, including most recently in The Next Doctor. Next week, the production team are heading to another familiar location - the house used for Donna Noble's home.

David Harewood, currently starring as Friar Tuck in BBC1's Robin Hood, confirmed on Jonathan Ross's radio show that he will also be starring in the two part finale, due to air over the Christmas period.

The first special, Planet of the Dead, is due to air ~~April 12~~(confirmed as April 11 by the BBC), with the first trailer being broadcast this Wednesday on BBC1.

Three towns to get 'Who' early

Three venues across the UK will show an advance screening of the upcoming Doctor Who Easter special two days before the rest of the country.

The Theater Hafren in Newtown, Wales, will host a broadcast of 'Planet Of The Dead' on April 10, while the episode will be aired nationally on April 12, County Times reports.

Theatre director Sara Clutton said: "We are absolutely delighted, it is something free for our customers and we are delighted to be able to open our doors and put on something different.

"It just builds on the success we had at the Here for You roadshow two years ago."

Fans who wish to attend the screening must contact the theatre to apply for tickets.

The other towns rumoured to be showing an advance screening of the episode are Denby and Newport.

'Planet Of The Dead' will feature former EastEnders actress Michelle Ryan and comedian Lee Evans.

Doctor Who - Billie Piper to return

BILLIE Piper will return to Doctor Who with ALL the Time Lord’s former companions as part of David Tennant’s final episode.

Billie, 26, will again play Rose Tyler and teams up with other sidekicks Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) and Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman).

The trio will join forces to take on the Doctor’s revived arch-enemy The Master, played again by John Simm.

The episode sees the Timelord regenerate into the new Doctor (Matt Smith).

An insider said: “This will be the most exciting episode Doctor Who have ever done. We really wanted to get all the companions back on board as a fitting send-off to David.

“And of all the enemies for him to face in his final episode it makes sense for The Master to be the main one. Getting Billie to agree is a real coup, but she loved working on the show so much it didn’t take much convincing.”

Rose — who left after series two — formed the strongest bond with the Doctor out of the female companions. She returned for a few episodes in the last series where she was reunited with the Doctor.

Rose then returned to Earth with a separate half-human version of the Time Lord.

Since she left Doctor Who, Billie has gone on to star in the raunchy ITV2 drama Secret Diary of a Call Girl. She plays a high-class hooker in the risque show, which is currently on its third series.

We revealed yesterday how her three brothers and sisters are embarrassed about her success.

David, 37, will quit the show after the last of the four specials.

Meanwhile the red London bus set to feature in the first special has been damaged in Dubai by schoolkids.

Skins star Hannah Murray has been tipped to become Matt Smith's companion in the fifth series of Doctor Who.

Murray, who played Cassie in the first two series of the Channel 4 teen drama, is supposedly in secret talks with producers about the role, News Of The World reports.

A BBC insider said: "Hannah did some challenging stuff in Skins and they see her as an up-and-comer."

Other stars reportedly being considered for the role include Georgia Moffett, Lily Allen and Kelly Brook.

Russell T. Davies has confirmed that he does not want to "ruin anyone's chances" of being cast as the fifth series companion by using them in this year's specials.
