I think the rights of copyright holders to protect their interests should not infringe on our rights to be considered innocent until proven guilty. By demanding the unilateral right to take down any website without due process, the media lobbyists are infringing the rights of all internet users.

The bills seek to target any site that links to another which links to content the entertainment industry deems infringing. The cost of policing any website where users may put up anything they like would bring down even giants like Google. How much more so would they destroy the small businesses the bills pretend to defend?

Jean-Yves Blondeau, a daredevil inventor, has created a suit that allows the wearer to skate downhill while lying flat on the pavement. His suit has been featured in Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel’s comedy, “Yes Man“. This looks immensely fun, and quite a bit less dangerous then Jeb-Corliss’s insane jumps, but difficult and perilous enough to exclude meeker souls.

Should I move Pensieve to Google’s Blogger platform again? Google has recently refreshed it’s blogging platform, and added Google+ integration.

Pensieve began on Google’s blogger platform. My earlier blogs were hand coded, which made a hassle out of blogging, but also made each post more special in my mind. I moved Pensieve out of Blogger and onto WordPress because WordPress offered me a great deal of freedom, better plug-ins,

But lately, I’ve been considering what to do with my blog. A few years ago, every post in Pensieve generated lively discussion. In part it was because of the expatriate community in Honduras, who enjoyed reading a blog written by a Honduran in their native English. That has changed now that I moved to Mexico.

I am still almost guaranteed a response when I post to Facebook, and less so, in Google+. When I cross post between these platforms, I at least have someone give me a “like” or a “+1″.

Imagine talking to your TV, and having it answer you. Such a scenario is what the editors at the MacRumors website are suggesting Apple will soon unleash to the world. In this article, they say the Siri, the iPhone 4S virtual assistant, will be coming to television soon. Once Apple enters the Smart TV market, many others will scramble to compete.

For instance, instead of hunting through crevices in furniture or fumbling with a remote that always manages to bewilder you in the dark, you would simply say: Siri, please play me the final 30 minutes of 2001: A Space Oddyssey, and voila! we could watch HAL 9000′s neurotic breakdown and have some psychedelic visuals afterward to soothe our own neuroses.

Imagine saying: “Siri, please turn on Spanish subtitles”, or, “Siri, please mute sound.” Or maybe, “Siri, fast forward.” or “rewind” or “slow-mo”. Or maybe, “Siri, what did Sheldon just say?”, and have her rewind to the right moment in the action. Id love to be able to say: “Siri, connect my BlueRay player” or “Siri, connect my laptop” instead of having to awkwardly press buttons to do the same.

I don’t know how this would be backward compatible with DVD menus, which operate on a point and click paradigm. But I’m absolutely sure Apple would mean this to replace DVDs and Bluerays alltogether, as it has been trying to do for years.

I suppose all video would be streamed to the smart TV, and we would finally be free from our fixation on little plastic discs. But there’s the rub: studios will be loath to give up their greatest revenue stream, selling those little plastic discs.

Siri, of course, is the first natural language voice recognition software that has taken center stage in a mainstream product: the iPhone 4S. I follows the paradigm set forth by Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick in their seminal film, mentioned above: speech as a user interface.

But I imagine a farther future when every house will have an 3d holographic avatar as a user interface. Keyboards will only be used for formal writing, if at all. The mouse? Why have a mouse when we have hands and fingers? Or, if we need fine control, a stylus is much more natural. Children will play with their own holographic avatars from toddlerhood. This might be accomplished by having 3d projectors in the ceilings of our rooms.

By then, movies might occur in a 3d space much like a stage, bringing them back to their theatrical roots. Maybe some experimental movies would break the fourth wall, like Hair, and have avatars as actors interacting with the people in the room.

I imagine the future of entertainment as coming full circle to its human roots, with technology so effortless, that it resembles magic. I miss Steve Jobs’s pitch of the new Apple TV, I’m sure that’s just the word he’d choose.

There isn’t much I can say about Steve Jobs. I never met him, personally, but his influence was felt from my childhood. Like many reacting to the news of his passing, I am doing so on a device he was involved in designing. He has inspired me greatly, as with countless others.

I love the 1984 and Matrix references in this video. The animators at Taiwan’s New Media Animation, have once again produced a delicious roast of the news of the day.

By the process described in detail in the Mashable tech blog, I have already started trying out the timeline. It seems perfect for uploading ancient pictures taken in the 70s and 80s, and putting them in context.

But, it seems that it will be a lot of work to get my timeline looking decent. I think most people won’t bother, and might stampede away. This doesn’t necessarily mean G+ will easily acquire the defectors. They will probably be averse to social networking, and no more likely to trust scary Google than scarier Mark Zuckerberg.

This app turns Facebook into a virtual scrapbook of your life. The current model for profiles is an image of your current self, not how you have changed throughout your life. By adding the fourth dimension to the profile, Facebook explodes the potential of the profile exponentially.

I read Ben Parr’s post yesterday about Facebook being ready to unveil the greatest change since its inception, and I have to agree. I was very resistant to the idea that anything that Facebook could pull out of a hat would be something I’d want to be a part of. Reading that Yahoo wants to publish your reading habits on Facebook for all to peruse gave me something to fear rather than relish.

But the timeline is something completely new. Good job Facebook! The only thing missing is what to do when a person is deceased. I expect they will address this when the time comes.

YouTube has had a very basic video editor for some time, and has now updated and relaunched it. To me this was the next logical step for YouTube: to own the customer journey from the beginning. I have a further idea which is my Capstone project for my master’s degree, and since very few if any companies are pursuing the same strategy, I won’t say anything further until it’s ready.
