Mio’s Alpha Kickstarter Project Is A Very Cool, Touch-Free Heart-Rate Monitor Watch

Mio made some fairly cool heart-rate watches a few years ago but they required you to place a finger on two little pads while running in order to take the measurements. It was interesting, and when you consider that most other heart-rate watches require a chest strap, fairly unique. However, nobody wanted to touch a little thinger just to get their heart rate.

Enter the Mio Alpha. This new product uses a precise light sensor to sense your heart rate on the go. No straps, no muss, no fuss. It’s pretty ingenious.

I got a chance to sit down with the watch a few days ago and I was really impressed. They’re tooling up right now to start manufacturing them and they will cost $99 when you pre-order through Kickstarter. The watches work by sensing changes in blood volume moving through the skin. It takes a moment to begin sensing but once it’s figured out your heart rate it’s ready to go. A small LED on the top tells you if you’re in the proper heart-rate zone and you can program it for various activity levels.

They’re looking for $100,000 and they’ve already hit $30K so things look good for an on-time arrival. Given that this watch does away with annoying straps and futzing, I’m pretty excited

Apple announces next-generation 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, ships today for $2199

Apple has just announced the next-generation Macbook Pro with a retina display. It goes along the rest of the Macbook line, but Apple is looking foward with this model: removing the optical drive to enable a laptop that's only 0.71 inches thick. The premiere feature, however, is clearly the Retina Display, which packs a a 2880 x 1800 screen into 15.4 inches, which adds up to 220 ppi.The new Macbook weighs under 4.5 lbs, making it the lightest Pro laptop Apple has ever produced. Phil Schiller called it "the most beautiful computer we have ever made." Its beautiful on the inside as well, with a quad-core Intel i5 or i7 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia Kepler GeForce GT 650m GPU. Naturally, Apple is focusing on flash storage instead of a traditional hard drive, and will offer it with up to 768GB. Battery life is rated to 7 hours, and ports include an SD card slot, HDMI, USB 3, two Thunderbolt ports, MagSafe 2 and a headphone jack. It also has two microphones. Connectivity includes 802.11n for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, but so far Apple has unfortunately not made mention of 4G connectivity being built-in. As with other Macbooks, it features a backlit keyboard and a Multi-Touch trackpad. Those hoping to swap in their own SSDs should probably look to the more traditional Macbook Pros — Apple notes that "By not purchasing standard parts, we can create a product that's more elegant and more efficient." That said, during the Keynote Apple showed off some of the design and manufacturing behind the next-gen Macbook Pro, including asymmetrically-placed fans for quieter operation. Is Apple's iPad 3 Already Leaving China For The United States?

In a report that recently hit the Web, 9to5Mac notes that iPad 3 models might have already started leaving China’s Foxconn factories for the United States. The report also suggests that preorders for the iPad could open as early as March 7, while a second major announcement (potentially a new Apple TV device) may also be planned.

First, we mentioned that iPad 3 models have already started leaving China. The source for this piece of information is a shipping document, which apparently appeared on the Weibo social network and WeiPhone forums (and was highlighted by Apple.pro).

The iPad 3 shipping documents

The WeiPhone forum posted said:

Our company started undertake a load of top-secured cargo. The owner has extreme requirements for the security. In order to prevent the cargo from being dragged on the airport ramp for too long, as well as shortening the time the cargo stay on the airport ramp, we hereby require XXXX to schedule all the XXX cargo planes from Feb. 26 to Mar. 9. to XXX slot.

Apple’s iPad 3 is expected to be announced on March 7, and 9to5Mac’s sources note that preorders for the iPad could launch on this day. In the past, preorders for a new product have launched a few days after it’s been announced, meaning a March 7 announcement would more likely give a preorder launch date of March 10, or soon after.

The website also suggests that Apple might launch a new Apple TV product at its iPad 3 special event. Already, we’ve told you second-generation Apple TV stock is low and that stores haven’t been receiving shipments, suggesting that a product refresh is in-bound. In 9to5Mac’s article, the website notes that it has heard Apple is planning to launch two new products in March, with the second product being unspecified. If Apple TV stock remains as low as it has been, it’s likely that we’ll see a third-generation Apple TV device launch with the iPad 3, potentially packing Bluetooth 4.0 support.

Finally, 9to5Mac adds:

Additionally, our sources are pointing to the discontinuation of all iPad 2 WiFi + 3G models and all iPad 2 WiFi-only models (except the black and white 16GB units – at least initially) when the iPad 3 launches. This would refute rumors of Apple launching the Retina Display-packing iPad 3 as an extension of the iPad 2 line, and would seem to back up rumors of Apple keeping the 16 GB iPad 2 around at a lower price point. This iPad 2 model discontinuation information is based on Apple product supply checks.

The Apple iPad is one of the best-selling tablets in the world, and the iPad 3 is one of the most anticipated devices from Apple this year. This article explains you about the new features that are to be included in theiPad 3.

A6 Processor

The current Apple iPad 2 has a 900MHz dual-core ARM Cortext-A9 processor, Apple A5 chipset and PowerVr SGX543MP2 GPU. This certainly made the Apple iPad 2 a powerful tablet and a main competitor in the world of tablets. Now Apple is aiming to make the competition tougher by sporting an A6 Quad-core Processor in the iPad 3. This would make the iPad 3 as powerful as any high-end desktop.

According to Linley Group senior analyst Kevin Krewell, “We expect the A6 will be a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 design, which would be competitive with next year’s best mobile processors. In 2012, Nvidia will offer a quad-core Cortex-A9 processor, and Qualcomm will have the aforementioned MSM8960, a dual-core A15-class processor operating at 1.7GHz. Fabricating Apple’s A6 in 28nm (instead of the 40nm process Nvidia is using for its quad-core part) will reduce both die cost and power, yielding a much better product.”

iOS 5

The iPad 3 will come with the latest iOS 5, which will host the multi-touch gesture technology. However, analyst and tech enthusiasts predict that Apple would introduce OS X Lion for the tablet, since it will be powered by a quad-core processor.

This will also include multitasking features, such as notifications, task-finishing, app-switching, location and background sound.

3D Feature and New Retina Display

Apple enthusiast expected the Retina Display feature on Apple iPad 2; however, Apple has been working majorly for an improved version of it to include it in the iPad 3. The iPhone 4 currently supports the Retina Display with a screen resolution of 960 x 640. Apple explains Retina Display as: “Developing pixels a mere 78 micrometers wide, Apple engineers were able to pack four times the number of pixels into the same 3.5-inch (diagonal) screen found on earlier iPhone models. The resulting pixel density of iPhone 4 – 326 pixels per inch – makes text and graphics look smooth and continuous at any size.”

With the Retina Display feature, the screen resolution of the iPad3 will be 2048 x 1536 pixels. However, it is said that the third version of the tablet is delayed due to Retina Display issues, and Apple is expected to ship the tablet in early 2012.

There are speculations that the tablet will display the 3D view. Although it’s too early to expect features like 3D display, devices like the LG Optimus can record videos in 3D, and output the same through HDMI.

Cloud Computing

Apple announced its Cloud services during the WWDC 2011, and will definitely include the iCloud technology both in the iPhone 5 and iPad 3. With iCloud users can store photos, apps, calendars and access songs on iTunes without having them to store in the phone’s memory.

Camera

The iPad 3 will come with an improved camera, since the previous version of the table didn’t seem impressive enough. Unlike the iPad 2, the new tablet will come with LED flash to support the camera. It is expected to have a 5MP camera with 1080p or 720p video recording quality of 60 frames per second. The technology made by OmniVision will help reduce the size of the table by 20 percent.

Fingerprint Proof

Apple has already been granted patents on this technology, and is working real hard to make the iPad3 fingerprint proof. The touch screen will be coated with oleophobic materials, which will reduce the oil and fingerprints on the screen.

Apple iPad 3 Release Date

There isn’t any official word from Apple on when the iPad 3 will be released; however, rumors indicate that it will be announced sometime early next year. Proview podría paralizar la fabricación del iPad de Apple en China

Cuando Apple decidió llamar iPad al iPad tuvo que negociar la compra del nombre comercial con las empresas que previamente eran dueñas del término iPad. Entre ellas se encontraba Proview, una semidesconocida empresa china de monitores que ahora está cerca de la quiebra. En 2007 Proview y Apple llegaron a un acuerdo por valor de 35,000£ para que Apple tuviese la marca iPad en todo el mundo. ¿Todo el mundo? No. Parece que… las triquiñuelas de Proview han logrado poner contra las cuerdas a Apple en un tribunal chino y corre el riesgo de no poder usar la marca comercial de iPad en toda China. La clave está en una demanda que asegura que Proview vendió la marca para ser usada en todo el mundo menos en China. En Apple aseguran tener los papeles en regla, pero el caso ya ha estallado. Claro que Proview está dispuesta a retirar la demanda por la modica suma de 2 billones de dólares -billones anglosajones- (más de 1.500 millones de euros). Y con esto el lio ya está montado. Apple ganó esta disputa en un tribunal de Hok Kong pero ahora en China las cosas pueden ser muy diferentes. Las implicaciones del caso podrían llegar a paralizar la producción mundial de iPad que se fabrican precisamente en China.

El dispositivo de Proview poco tiene que ver con el de Apple. Mientras el iPad de Apple es un tablet que ha vendido cerca de 50 millones de unidades en dos años, el IPAD de Proview “Internet Personal Access Device” era una especie de ordenador todo en uno que no vendió más de 20.000 unidades entre 1998 y 2009. Pero ahí están los resquicios legales que pueden poner en apuros a Apple. Ya veremos en que acaba esto.

Apple y el “blanqueo” de iPhone robados

El iPhone es uno de los terminales móviles más buscados por los amantes de lo ajeno. Su alto valor, popularidad y facilidad de venta lo hace muy atractivo. Otra característica a tener en cuenta es la garantía del teléfono, ya que está ligada al terminal y no a su legítimo dueño, como ocurre en otras marcas. Eso, según Reuters, es una de las causas por las el robo de iPhones se está convirtiendo en un problema para las víctimas.

Una vez robado el terminal, el ladrón puede acudir a una Apple Store a solicitar un cambio de terminal, siempre que esté en periodo de garantía, o descuento por compra de otro al entregar el suyo. El cambio se suele achacar a algún supuesto problema del teléfono, con lo que una vez cambiado es prácticamente imposible recuperar el dispositivo original por su auténtico dueño.

Según Robert Siciliano, experto en seguridad que trabaja para empresas como McAfee, Apple se basa en el sistema de honor, y no tiene en cuenta los dispositivos robados. La compañía es consciente del problema, pero no ha hecho nada por ahora al respecto, ni lo hará hasta que sus clientes comiencen a quejarse lo suficientemente alto.

Bloqueo del IMEI del iPhone
Hay que reconocer que el sistema de garantía de Apple funciona muy bien de cara al usuario, ya que ante cualquier problema podemos llevar el terminal defectuoso a una Apple Store y conseguir un reemplazo inmediato. En caso de que no tengamos alguna tienda oficial cerca, normalmente nos recogen el teléfono y en pocos días lo tenemos de vuelta.

Para esto, en la mayoría de países donde se vende, no nos piden factura o confirmación legal de que somos dueños del dispositivo, con lo que un ladrón puede, inmediatamente después de haberlo robado, ir a una tienda a cambiar el teléfono. Es relativamente fácil inventarse alguna problema y conseguir que Apple reemplace el terminal, con lo que ya no se le puede seguir la pista. Una vez denunciamos el robo, nuestra compañía de teléfono bloqueará el IMEI, pero si el ladrón ha cambiado ya el iPhone, nuestra operadora de telefonía no tendrá el nuevo IMEI, produciéndose el blanqueo de ese móvil.

Hace unos meses descubrimos una pantente de Apple en la que se hablaba de una mejora del servicio “Encuentra mi iPhone”, y podría ser una ayuda en estos casos, aunque lamentablemente esto no sirve de nada en cuanto se apaga el terminal.

El iPhone 5 podría estar listo en verano

EP / MADRID La siguiente generación de iPhone ya está lista para comenzar a producirse, por lo que su fecha de salida al mercado sería en los meses de verano. Por el momento, no se han ofrecido muchos detalles sobre sus características pero podría contar con una pantalla de más de cuatro pulgadas y no tendrá la misma forma que el iPhone 4 ni el iPhone 4S.

Como ocurre con todos los dispositivos de Apple, los rumores sobre sus características y fecha de salida al mercado no dejan de sucederse. Sin embargo, una nueva generación de iPhone lleva esperándose desde hace muchos meses, ya que el último 'smartphone' presentado por los de Cupertino fue un mejorado iPhone de cuarta generación, el iPhone 4S, como ocurrió con el 3G.

Esto supuso una decepción para muchos usuarios, por lo que la llegada del denominado iPhone 5 es cada vez más deseada. Y esta espera es posible que finalice este verano. Una persona de la fábrica de Foxconn en China -compañía fabricante de los 'smartphones' de Apple- ha confirmado a 9to5mac que el iPhone 5 ya ha entrado en fase de producción, por lo que su salida al mercado se esperaría para verano de 2012.

Sin embargo, esta misma fuente ha asegurado que varios dispositivos de muestra se encuentra en la fábrica, los cuales varían ligeramente de unos a otros, así que por el momento es imposible saber cuál será el modelo definitivo.

Algunas de las características que muestran esos modeles son una pantalla superior a las cuatro pulgadas y con un grosor uniforme distinto al iPhone 4 y 4S -eso sí, más largo y más ancho que sus predecesores-. Pero aseguran que ninguno de los modelos responden a la versión final del nuevo dispositivo.

Según informa 9to5mac, esta misma fuerte es la que confirmó en su momento que el iPhone 5 no estaría disponible para el verano pasado y que Apple estaba pensando en otro modelo distinto, el iPhone 4S.

Existen editores web de varios tipos, incluso los que realizan tareas específicas para cambiar el tamaño de imágenes, crear una para el perfil de redes sociales como Facebook..
Entre los editores de escritorio los hay gratuitos para varios sistemas operativos como Gimp.

Photoshop se ha convertido con el paso de los años en el referente de los programas de retoque digital de imágenes. El gran problema para muchos usuarios domésticos (y para muchos profesionales) es el elevado precio del programa, en relación con las prestaciones que realmente necesitan esos usuarios, que muchas veces no pasan de recortar, mejorar niveles de saturación y contraste o disponer del cambio de tamaño de imágenes.

Adobe Photoshop Elements: es un 'Photoshop para casa'bastante más económico (ronda los 126 euros).Decenas de aplicaciones, tanto de escritorio como 'online', son adecuadas para realizar tareas de retoque y edición de imágenes, según detallan desde Consumer. Las hay más asequibles al bolsillo e, incluso gratuitas.

Photoshop Express: 'online' y gratuito, permite, entre otras opciones, realizar algunas de las funciones más demandadas por los usuarios, como corrección de ojos rojos o rotar imágenes o niveles, pero nunca con la caja de herramientas de mano ni con la opción de edición por capas. Es decir, es insuficiente en muchos casos.

En la Red

Entre los editores web más destacados figuran herramientas gratuitas como Picnik y Splashup, porque permiten una edición básica de imágenes suficiente como para corregir algunos de los problemas más habituales en la edición fotográfica. Picnick dispone de una cuenta premium con un coste de dos dólares al mes y con un mayor número de funciones y características. Otras herramientas 'online' de edición de imágenes disponibles son Cellsea, Drpic, Flaunt,Pixer.us o Fotoflexer.
Herramientas específicas para una tarea concreta, comoPicResize, que resulta idónea para recortar fotografías de una manera personalizada y darles un nuevo tamaño acorde a su uso, o Facebomb, que recorta imágenes verticales para el perfil de Facebook, según las dimensiones específicas de esta red social.

Editores de escritorio

Gimp: es gratuito y está disponible para los sistemas operativos Linux, Mac Os X y Windows, ya que está basado en software libre y cuenta con funciones solo al alcance de aplicaciones de manipulación de imágenes profesionales. Por tanto, su uso va más allá de la simple edición de imágenes. Entre las características orientadas a esta función, destacan las destinadas a la corrección de las imperfecciones más comunes en fotografía digital, como la distorsión de la perspectiva.
Para Windows, una alternativa asequible es PaintShop Pro x4, orientado a la edición de fotografías con multitud de funciones y características, como la posibilidad de crear imágenes con alto rango dinámico (HDR), mezclar varias fotografías en una o una sencilla función para iluminar áreas con sombra en una fotografía. Esta aplicación tiene un precio estimado de 69,99 euros.
Por su parte, PhotoPlus es una completa aplicación para la manipulación de fotografías, que permite mejorar las imágenes mediante el uso de diferentes tipos de filtros, así como acciones concretas para la edición rápida, entre ellas, la corrección de ojos rojos o la restauración de imágenes antiguas. También tiene soporte para archivos de imágenes Raw. Esta aplicación alcanza un precio estimado de 85 euros, aunque cuenta con una versión gratuita con un menor número de características.
Paint.net es otra de las aplicaciones más completas para el sistema operativo Windows, orientada a la edición de fotografías. Cuenta con las funciones más demandadas en este tipo de software, como recortar, corrección de brillo y contraste, edición por capas o la posibilidad de añadir diferentes filtros y efectos. Es gratuita.
PaintStar es otra aplicación gratuita para la edición de imágenes en ordenadores que corran en el sistema operativo Windows. Destaca por ser muy sencilla de utilizar. Cuenta con funciones como la manipulación del canal Alpha de las imágenes, diferentes tipos de filtros, creación de texto en 3D sobre las fotografías o ejecución de acciones como "morphing" entre dos imágenes. Otra aplicación gratuita muy similar, pero orientada a la edición gráfica es Pixia.
Los usuarios de Mac Os X cuentan con Acorn, un editor de imágenes orientado a ámbitos domésticos, gracias a que su entorno gráfico está simplificado con acciones comprensibles, como añadir texto y gradientes de color a una imagen o utilizar diferentes filtros. Esta aplicación tiene un coste de 49,99 dólares.
Otra alternativa para usuarios de Mac Os X más barata y apta para ediciones profesionales y semiprofesionales es PixelMator, con un precio de 23,99 dólares. Permite casi las mismas funciones que Photoshop, de una manera intuitiva y clara, aunque algunas funciones más complejas son algo limitadas. Se descarga de la tienda Mac Store.

Tutorial: Jailbreak Untethered para iPhone 4S y iPad 2 con Absinthe (Mac)

Ayer mismo se liberó la esperadísima herramienta para hacer el Jailbreak Untethered en los iPhone 4S y iPad 2, dos terminales que hasta ahora permanecían inexpugnables. El trabajo conjunto del Chronic Dev Team y el iPhone Dev Team ha dado sus frutos y los usuarios de estos modelos ya pueden desbloquear sus dispositivos para disfrutar de todas las ventajas del Jailbreak.

El proceso de Jailbreak elimina las restricciones que impone Apple en sus productos y te permite descargar de contenidos desde Cydia -la tienda de aplicaciones no oficial para los iPhone con Jailbreak-. En Cydia puedes encontrar multitud de herramientas para personalizar tu dispositivo o agregar nuevas funciones que serían imposibles en un iPhone o iPad no modificado. Recordamos que este proceso es legal, la pega es que eliminará la garantía. No hay que alarmarse porque es totalmente reversible, sólo tendrás que restaurar los valores de fábrica desde iTunes y todo volverá a la normalidad; esto también te servirá si durante el proceso se produce algún problema inesperado.

Tal y como os prometimos ayer, vamos a explicar paso a paso como realizar el Jailbreak en eliPhone 4S y el iPad 2 con la nueva herramienta Absinthe. Esta nueva aplicación sólo es compatible con Mac, los usuarios de Windows tendrán que esperar un poco más a que los desarrolladores publiquen la herramienta que funcione en este sistema operativo.

Absinthe funciona con todos los iPhone 4S actualizados a iOS 5.0 (recomendado si además quieresliberar el terminal para usarlo con otro operador) y ambas versiones de iOS 5.0.1 (9A405 y 9A405). En el caso del iPad 2 deberás haber actualizado a iOS 5.0.1 y no funcionará si todavía estás en iOS 5.0, en este caso debes actualizar dirigiéndote al menú Ajustes – General – Actualización de Software. Y dicho esto empezamos.

Tutorial: Jailbreak Untethered para iPhone 4S y iPad 2 con Absinthe (Mac)

1) Como siempre, y como precaución, es recomendable hacer una copia de seguridad de tus archivos. Desde iTunes puedes hacerlo de forma inalámbrica (siempre y cuando hayas configurado tu dispositivo para este método) o conectando el terminal con el cable USB y seleccionando la opción Guardar copia de seguridad (haciendo clic derecho sobre el nombre del dispositivo). Este paso es muy recomendable en el caso de que surja algún problema durante el proceso de Jailbreak, así podrás restaurar y volver a empezar desde el principio.

2) Lo siguiente que necesitas es la herramienta Absinthe. Recordamos que sólo funciona con Mac OSX,si eres usuario de PC (Windows) tendrás que esperar un poco más hasta que aparezca la herramienta compatible.

Absinthe 0.1.2 – 2 (Mac)

3) Una vez hayas guardado la copia de seguridad y descargado Absinthe, abre la aplicación (tendrás primero que descomprimir el fichero .zip) y conecta tu iPhone 4S o iPad 2 al ordenador a través del cable USB. Absinthe detectará el dispositivo cuando lo conectes, en ese momento el botón Jailbreak se resaltará indicando que puedes pulsarlo.

4) Con el terminal conectado pulsa el botón Jailbreak y el proceso comenzará. En la pantalla deAbsinthe aparecerán mensajes acerca del estado del proceso. Recuerda que hasta que no termine(puede tardar unos minutos) no debes desconectar el iPhone 4S o el iPad 2 bajo ningún concepto. También verás que empiezan a suceder cosas en el terminal, no hay que tocar nada.

5) Una vez terminado el proceso, cuando en Absinthe aparezca el mensaje Done, el dispositvo se reiniciará automáticamente. Al encenderse de nuevo verás que en el escritorio del iPhone ha aparecido el icono de Absinthe. Pulsa sobre él y se abrirá la página web de Greenpois0n. Tras hacer esto el terminal volverá a reiniciarse, se sustituirá el icono de Absynthe por Cydia y ya habrás terminado el proceso.

Solución de problemas

Muchos usuarios han tenido problemas de instalación debido a la saturación de los servidores. Al abrir la aplicación Absinthe desde el terminal, en ocasiones sale una pantalla en blanco donde se muestra un mensaje de error con la base de datos. Para solucionarlo tienes dos opciones: puedesseguir intentando abrir Absinthe hasta que por fin consigas conectar con la web de Greenpois0n o, si eres impaciente, dirígete al menú Ajustes y activa la función VPN. Una vez activada verás queaparece un mensaje de error (esto es normal) y el dispositivo se reinicia. Cuando se encienda trata de abrir Absinthe de nuevo y así completar el proceso de Jailbreak tal y como hemos especificado en el paso 5.

Absinthe es una nueva herramienta desarrollada específicamente para aplicar el Jailbreak en el iPhone 4S y el iPad 2. Como verás el proceso es bastante sencillo, incluso más que con Redsn0w que te obliga a poner el terminal en modo DFU. Con Absinthe sólo tienes que pulsar el botón Jailbreak y el proceso se lleva a cabo de forma automática.

Apple vs. the textbook: Can education go paperless?

Apple announced that it was "reinventing the textbook" using the iPad, its iBooks bookstore and a new kind of book creation tool. But despite the tremendous success of the iPad in recent years, and despite the biggest partners in educational publishing, does the company have the ability to effect real change? Or is Apple ignoring some serious obstacles? Content providers and education experts are torn.

During a press event on Thursday, Apple senior vice president Phil Schiller explained that the "iPad is rapidly being adopted by schools" and that the brand-new iBooks 2 app will offer students an interactive way to learn using a device they may already be familiar with.

Schiller described the iBooks Author app and how it can be used to easily create these interactive learning experiences. He also announced that three major textbook publishers — Pearson, McGraw-Hill, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt — are working to provide content priced at $14.99 and under.

What Schiller didn't touch on, however, is how Apple will control the quality of textbooks offered through the iBookstore, whether these interactive textbooks will truly be a help (rather than a distraction), and how he expects all these snazzy new tools to make their way to students who may not be able to afford iPads.

Can Apple control quality and manage the educational boards?
As soon as the iBooks Author tool was introduced, many Apple watchers who had previously witnessed the garbaging up of the iTunes App Store — with useless or redundant fart or flashlight apps — let out a collective sigh.

How long until the shiny new corner of the iBookstore, where the textbooks will reside, is filled with hastily made, low-quality products, or worse yet, works of high quality that nevertheless contain misleading or unsubstantiated information.

Ben Jackson, an independent app developer based in New York, told me he believes that Apple has learned a lesson from the App Store — to which it refuses to admit useless apps nowadays — and that it will subject textbooks to some form of review which is "as strict, if not more strict, than app review policies" as this content is "directed towards kids for the purpose of learning."

The tech giant plans to offer digital textbooks for e-readers. NBC's Mark Barger reports.

Mac McCarthy, ANewDomain.net publisher and founding editor-in-chief of IDG Books, told me that he's confident that existing textbook review processes will continue to exist as well, and be applied to books supplied through the iBookstore — with a little twist.

"This will turn out to be as important a move on Apple's part as anything they have ever done — iTunes, but in education — totally disruptive against a bad system, for good," wrote McCarthy, commenting duringTechnologizer's liveblog of the announcement. When I asked him to elaborate on that remark, he explained that the way textbooks are currently approved for classroom use frequently drives publishers to do things that aren't good for students.

Bloated, overpriced textbooks are a symptom of one-size-fits-all publishing, a necessity for the imprints who have to jump through hoops pitching the same textbook to multiple approval committees in multiple state and local jurisdictions. By giving even the bigger publishing houses more flexibility, iBooks 2 may be able to remove some of these issues from the playing field entirely.

Does an interactive textbook really facilitate learning?
Before Schiller dove into the iBooks 2 announcement, he made it a point to discuss the flaws of traditional textbooks. Such textbooks, he explained, aren't the most ideal learning tool. They can be cumbersome, get dog-eared and suffer from wear. They're not interactive, easily searchable or cheap.

And that's why the iPad and iBooks 2 are supposedly necessary — to offer learning experiences filled with movies, multitouch gestures, links, lightning-fast searches, photo galleries, instant quizzes, automatic flashcard creation and other interactive elements.

These features sound great on paper, and they solve problems that those who have graduated already suffered from (but managed to live with) throughout the education process, but how great will everything be in practice?

Sylvia Martinez, president of Generation YES, a nationwide program that helps K-12 schools integrate technology into the classroom, suggests that we likely won't see the textbook reinvention we're being told is occurring. "Publishers will still create and students will still consume," she told me. "If heavy backpacks were the only issue, [iBooks 2] would be amazing, but as that isn't the case, [it's] simply more convenient."

All the features offered by iBooks 2 are great, Martinez said, but they're still not changing how education is being approached. We're still attempting to "deliver learning to students," instead of focusing on reality — which is that students need to be encouraged to learn.

"Students taking notes, creating flashcards and taking quizzes after reading a text are not revolutionary, even when spiced up by multimedia. Students should be creators, not consumers. Decreasing the weight of student backpacks may provide a health benefit but says nothing about learning in the 21st century," she said.

"But," Martinez acknowledged, "some teachers and students will [use iBooks 2] and that can be great." Perhaps some students will even begin to get in groups and create their very own textbooks using iBooks Author.

Did you bring enough iPads for the whole class?
Though Apple is certain to work to address many of the above issues in the months and years to come, there's still one glaring problem: How do you get iPads to every student in the U.S.?

Schiller mentioned that over 1.5 million iPads are being used in education, but that number is meaningless without context.

U.S. Census statistics show that there are well over 57 million enrolled students between the ages of 5 and 19. Factor in students who don't fall into that age range — plus teachers and motivated parents — and suddenly Schiller's number isn't quite as impressive.

A soon-to-be-released national survey by PBS LearningMedia, an online media-on-demand service, reveals that while 91 percent of teachers surveyed "reported having access to computers in their classrooms" only "one in five (22 percent) said they have the right level of technology." I would doubt that many would count iPads as "the right level of technology" when they are struggling to fulfill their minimal needs. Sixty-three percent of those teachers cited budget constraints as the "biggest barrier to accessing tech in the classroom."

What is certain is that while the notion of iPad textbooks offers great promise, by pledging to take the digital classroom to the next level, Apple raises as many concerns as it answers.

Apple patent outlines Siri plans for 2012

Apple has big plans for Siri in 2012. For starters, we expect Apple's digital assistant to put in an appearance in the iPad 3 as well as its hotly anticipated Apple TV, or iTV. Today, we've discovered Apple's Virtual Assistant could be winging its way to the web and email platforms – and it will eventually assist us with online purchases, control our thermostats and even weigh in with its tuppence worth during conversations.

A new patent application, published this morning in the U.S Patent and Trademark Office (spotted by Patently Apple) provides details of an "Intelligent Automated Assistant". In addition to translating user voice requests into actions, Apple's patent goes on to say: "The system can be implemented using any number of different platforms, such as the web, email, smartphone and the like, or any combination thereof."

The patent also hints at Apple's plans for Siri to play a role in cars and in-car entertainment systems.

While Siri already works with both email and the Safari browser, the patent suggests Siri could surpass its current capabilities by working on "different platforms used by a variety of operating systems." Interestingly, the patent includes details about the software being able to operate devices locally or remotely, throwing up suggestions like dialling telephones, controlling light and temperature, security devices and playing music or video.

But perhaps the most bizarre Siri implementation could be its ability to join in and participate in text conversations, suggesting Apple wants Siri to play more of an active role within applications. This could include anything from email and instant messaging, to forums and group chat sessions, where Siri could respond accordingly to initiate action, communication with the user and provide alerts, for example.

When Siri stepped onto the scene during the iPhone 4S launch back in October, Apple announced it was in beta, and that additional features would be coming later.

While these features have yet to be confirmed, one thing is clear – Apple's voice-controlled tech is destined to go far beyond the iPhone and into devices like the iMac, cameras, HDTVs and more. And we can't wait to find out more.

Apple “reinvents textbooks” with iBooks 2 and iBooks Author

If only Apple had made textbooks when we were at school we’d have made straight A grades and graduated with a first from Oxbridge. With the introduction of Apple iBooks 2 – a iPad-based platform for selling education materials – learning might just have become cool again.

Assuming you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that interactivity is the crux of this new appraoch to learning – interactive glossaries, indexes and appendices are all present and correct – plus there’s the ability to make interactive section tests that are fun and can be marked by your iPad instantaneously (we just hope it doesn't scrawl condescending comments in the margin as it goes).

The new digital textbooks let students tap to make notes or highlight passages in different colours, something we’d like to see drift into more general applications, particularly if we could send URLs with highlighted passages and annotations. All those notes are automatically compiled into study cards for quick pre-test cramming.

A new textbook category in the iBookstore is the library for these hi-tech tomes, and you should be able to pick up a free sample when it goes live. (Who knows? You might even learn something.) As for filling the shelves, Apple’s thought that one through as well. Its method is iBooks Author, a Mac App for authoring interactive textbooks that provides a bevy of templates and widgets, WSIWYG editing and the ability to customise with Keynote, HTML 5 or Javascript. Oh, and it’s free.

Apple launches iTunes U app

Apple's on an education spree today – and having announced iBooks 2 and iBooks Author, it's graduating to university with the new and improved iTunes U. If you haven't heard of it before, it's iTunes as we know and love it – but in place of music and movies, you get course notes and lecture slides. No moaning please, it's character-building.

The all-new iTunes U is getting a dedicated app with redesigned tabs on the right hand side of your course notes – which will include Info, Posts, Notes and Materials.

Posts is the area where teacher can bug you to hand in work or send updates to students, plus assignments sync nicely with iBooks 2 so you know exactly what to read.

The Notes tab in iTunes U pulls in anything you've highlighted for re-reading. Materials is where you can buy books, video, audio or apps – if you're a student with money to burn, that is.

Students can easily see links to videos or apps outside iTunes U – no cats or FPS games though, remember – you're here to learn. Unless you're learning about cats or FPS games, in which case go to town.

Enrolling on the course and giving feedback also happen entirely in-app – we just hope the ratings comments match the calibre of the App Store.

It's clear where Apple's headed with this – iPad in hand, in theory you'll be able to sit down and crack on with learning just about anything. And it's not just a US knowledge frenzy, the app is headed for 123 countries – and of course it's free.

The big question is, can Apple make online learning cool? Hand your answers to the teacher, and show your working.

Google y Microsoft apenas crecen en el último trimestre de 2011 y frenan sus beneficios

Microsoft sufrió en el último trimestre de 2011 un retroceso del 0,1% respecto al año anterior, aunque ganó más de 5.100 millones de euros.
Google creció un 6,6% y se embolsó 2.090 millones de euros.
Ambas compañías destacan que su facturación aumentó entre octubre y diciembre.

Los gigantes tecnológicos Microsoft y Google frenaron su ritmo de beneficios en el último trimestre de 2011 y mientras el primero estancó sus resultados con un mínimo retroceso interanual del 0,1%, el segundo abandonó los crecimientos de dos dígitos para avanzar el 6,6%.

Los resultados positivos de las dos empresas estadounidenses se traducen en unos beneficios de 6.624 millones de dólares (5.109 millones de euros) para Microsoft y de 2.710 millones de dólares (2.090 millones de euros) para Google, según los datos presentados el jueves tras el cierre de Wall Street.

"Hemos presentado unos resultados financieros sólidos", subrayó en un comunicado el consejero delegado de Microsoft, Steve Ballmer.

Su compañía obtuvo en el último trimestre de 2011 unos ingresos de 20.885 millones de dólares (16.111 millones de euros), una cifra récord según la empresa y que mejora el 4,6% la facturación del mismo periodo del año anterior.

El alza interanual de los ingresos es porcentualmente mayor para el motor de búsqueda, que vio crecer su facturación el 25% hasta los 10.584 millones de dólares (8.164 millones de euros).

"Google tuvo un trimestre muy fuerte para terminar un año fantástico, los ingresos del año completo subieron un 29%", celebró el consejero delegado la empresa, Larry Page, en su primer cierre de año fiscal al frente de la compañía californiana.

El cofundador de Google accedió al cargo en abril y, bajo su dirección, la empresa lanzó en junio la red social Google+ para rivalizar con Facebook y compró en agosto el fabricante de teléfonos móviles Motorola por 12.500 millones de dólares (más de 9.640 millones de euros).

Por ello, Page subrayó el jueves ante los medios la confianza que deposita en el negocio de los móviles, sustentado por el crecimiento de las aplicaciones y la expansión del sistema operativo Android.

A Microsoft, en los resultados del último trimestre, le afectó todavía más directamente una gran operación de compra, como fue la adquisición del programa de videollamadas Skype por más de 8.600 millones de dólares (más de 6.600 millones de euros).

Apple Says Kodak Loan Terms Should Shield Disputed Patents

Jan. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc. asked a bankruptcy court to attach “clarifying language” to any order approving financing for Eastman Kodak Co.

Apple said in a filing today the order should indicate that no security interests or liens will attach to patents that Apple owns and has asserted claims on until the court resolves the ownership dispute between it and Kodak.

“Apple does not oppose Kodak’s acquisition of postpetition financing as a general matter,” the maker of the iPhone and iPad said in court papers. “However, Kodak cannot grant security interests in and liens upon patents that Kodak does not own.”

Citigroup Inc. agreed to provide $950 million in financing to help Kodak operate during bankruptcy, the photo company said today in a statement. Kodak is seeking permission to borrow as much as $700 million on an interim basis, court papers show. The loan must be approved by a bankruptcy judge.

A group of noteholders has also filed an objection, saying there should be “significant restrictions” on Kodak’s ability to borrow and spend.

Kodak, the photography pioneer that introduced its $1 Brownie Camera more than a century ago, filed for bankruptcy today after consumers embraced digital cameras, a technology Kodak invented and failed to commercialize.

Assets, Debt

The Rochester, New York-based company, which traces its roots to 1880, listed assets of $5.1 billion and debt of $6.8 billion in Chapter 11 documents filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan.

Apple has claimed it is the true owner of the image-preview patent that is the subject of infringement claims lodged against Apple and Research in Motion Ltd. The Cupertino, California- based company contends that it developed a digital camera in the early 1990s that it shared with Kodak, and that Kodak then sought the patent on the technology. Kodak has denied the allegations.

The U.S. International Trade Commission rejected the ownership arguments in a case that’s still pending at the Washington agency, and it’s an issue in a civil suit that’s on hold in federal court in Rochester.

The case is In re Eastman Kodak Co., 12-10202, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District New York (Manhattan).

NEW YORK - Apple on Thursday lifted the veil on its plans to remake the educational landscape in a way that centers on its best-selling tablet computer, the iPad.

"Education is deep in Apple's DNA and iPad may be our most exciting education product yet," Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of marketing, said in a statement.

At a press conference in New York, the company announced three products that aim to get students and teachers to use the iPad's touch-screen interface to read, write, plan classes and communicate with each other.

First, a free app called iBooks Author lets anyone create a digital, interactive textbook.

In a demo at the event, an Apple employee created an e-book with the app in about five minutes, according to live blogs.

Second, an update to a piece of software called iTunes U lets teachers plan their curriculum and communicate with their students over the iPad.

The new iTunes U, which also is free and available on Thursday, will "allow anyone, anywhere, at any time to take courses for free," Schiller said, according to Fortune.com's Philip Elmer-DeWitt, who was live blogging from the event. Fortune is a partner site of CNN.com.

"If you're an educator at a university, college, or K-12 school, now you have an easy way to design and distribute complete courses featuring audio, video, books, and other content," Apple's website said Thursday. "And students and lifelong learners can experience your courses for free through a powerful new app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch."

Finally, a new textbook store called iBooks 2, also a free app, will feature digital e-books for schools.

Apple said it is partnering with several major textbook companies -- including Pearson, McGraw-Hill and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, who will make e-books for the store, according to Fortune.

High school textbooks start at $14.99, the company said.

In another demo, Apple's Roger Rosner showed off textbooks for the iPad that allow students to zoom in on pictures of cells, dissect digital frogs and make notes and highlights on the e-book pages.

"I don't think there's ever been a textbook that made it this easy to be a good student," Rosner said, according to Fortune.

All of these moves are part of Apple's larger strategy to remake the textbook industry. The company reportedly has been courting schools to make use of its popular tablet computer.

At the press conference, Schiller mocked paper textbooks, saying, "They're not portable, not durable, not interactive, not searchable." Books on the iPad are all of those things, he said, according to live blogs covering the event.

Some educators seem to be excited about the changes.

"Apple has recognized that learning for students is not a one-way street," Jed Macosko, an associate professor at Wake Forest University, said in a statement.

"Until now, most traditional e-textbooks have focused on linear content delivery, which is not the way people learn. Research shows that we learn by asking questions," said Macosko, the author of an interactive biology textbook.

Others questioned whether the move could give Apple too much control over educational content.

"(It's) not clear so far whether Apple's new textbooks will be open formats (ePub etc.) or only in Apple format," Mathew Ingram, a senior writer for the blog GigaOm, posted on Twitter after the event.

Or they mocked the fact that Apple is trying to take such a big role in education.

"For a small upcharge, Apple will put a huge logo on your school and tattoo an Apple on each (student's) forearm," user @irasocol wrote on Twitter.

La firma se vio hoy forzada a empezar a cotizar en los mercados secundarios después de que su quiebra voluntaria llevara al regulador de la bolsa de Nueva York (NYSE) a suspender la negociación de las acciones de Kodak, que a principios de este mes ya había recibido una advertencia de su posible expulsión del mercado si no conseguía cerrar por encima de un dólar.

Kodak se despidió así de Wall Street con un nuevo desplome de sus acciones del 35,1 % en los primeros compases de la sesión, tras lo cual fue expulsada del NYSE y sus títulos empezaron a cotizar en los mercados OTC, donde continuaba su fuerte caída.

En los últimos 12 meses de cotización en Wall Street, la histórica firma acumuló una caída del 93,12 %, una depreciación que se produjo en medio de los rumores, desde septiembre pasado, de que planeaba declararse en suspensión de pagos para reestructurar su negocio.

Finalmente este jueves los rumores se cumplieron, por lo que el NYSE retiró a la compañía de ese mercado, en el que empezó a cotizar en abril de 1905 y donde consiguió durante más de siete décadas ser uno de los 30 componentes del índice Dow Jones de Industriales, la principal referencia de Wall Street.

Kodak pidió este jueves a un tribunal de Nueva York acogerse al Capítulo 11 de la Ley de Bancarrotas estadounidense, con lo que pretende reforzar su liquidez en Estados Unidos y en el exterior, rentabilizar la propiedad intelectual no estratégica, resolver la situación de los pasivos y concentrarse en los negocios más competitivos.

De cualquier modo, Kodak señaló en un comunicado que, pese a la declaración de suspensión de pagos, tiene capacidad suficiente para operar su negocio y prestar servicios a sus clientes con "normalidad".

Nissan makes first self-healing iPhone case

Japanese automaker Nissan has applied its self-healing paint technology to an iPhone case. The first-of-its-kind case is a tribute to the Juke crossover and was created with the help of the University of Tokyo and Advanced Softmaterials. As on Nissan's cars, any small scratches or scrapes can fix themselves over time.

The polyrotaxane-based paint, dubbed Scratch Shield by the automaker, will fill in a minor scratch in about an hour, with larger nicks taking as much as one week to repair themselves. The trick is that the paint never truly dries, but doesn't feel wet to the touch or mark anything it touches. The case should also be harder to scratch in the first place, Nissan said, at least compared to paint from other automakers.

The automaker may sell the case later this year, and has reportedly licensed it to Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo. It will also give out about 100 of the cases at an event in Dubai. [via Leftlane News]

El nuevo iPad 3 está previsto para el próximo mes de marzo, según todas las informaciones existentes. Entre las nuevas características que se han filtrado por parte tres personas cercanas al nuevo producto están una pantalla en alta definición, un procesador más rápido ytecnología 4G, para mejorar el tráfico de datos.

Apple cada vez está más cerca de presentar el iPad 3. De nuevo los rumores vuelven a apuntar al mes de marzo como el de la salida al mercado de la tableta que ya ha vendido más de 40 millones de unidades.

Según tres personas cercanas al producto, algunas de las características por las que eliPad 3 se va a destacar son una pantalla en alta definición, un procesador más rápidoy la posibilidad de conectarse a redes 4G. Se trata de líneas de Internet móvil ultrarrápidas, cuya puesta en marcha por parte de las operadoras está teniendo lugar en estos momentos.

La conexión 4G LTE (logn term evolution) proporciona una mayor capacidad para navegar por Internet, dando lugar a un tráfico de datos más fluido. Entre otras cosas, se dice que la reproducción de vídeo desde el móvil requiere de la popularización de estas líneas para que el consumo se desarrolle.

Las razones que se apuntan por las que Apple va a incorporar 4G al iPad 3, sin haberlo hecho antes en el iPhone, señalan que la compañía quiere esperar a que las operadoras desplieguen esta tecnología primero. Es decir, para evitar desigualdad en el acceso, dependiendo de las zonas.

El iPad 3 para marzo

Apple estaría cambiando su estrategia de producción con vistas a los lanzamientos de este año. No hay que olvidar que el iPhone 5 está previsto para verano u otoño de 2012, mientras que los últimos rumores acerca del iPad 3 indican una posible salida al mercado en marzo.

No sólo eso, sino que las últimas informaciones apuntan a la aparición de un iPad 4 en el mes de octubre. Independientemente de la exactitud de estos rumores, sí parece claro que Apple lanzará en 2012 el iPhone 5 y al menos una nueva tableta.

Uno de los fabricantes de componentes que trabajan para la firma de Cupertino, Pegatron, ya ha recibido un pequeño volumen de órdenes para el iPad 3, segúnDigiTimes. Las fuentes consultadas por la publicación taiwanesa indican también que Apple está cambiando su estrategia de producción.

Pegatron se centrará principalmente en la producción del iPad, teniendo al iPhone como dispositivo secundario. El otro gran proveedor de Apple, Foxconn, hará lo contrario, dedicando la mayor parte de su esfuerzo al smartphone de la marca de la manzana.

El misterio alrededor de las presentaciones de algunos productos de Apple, y el enorme reflejo que tienen en la prensa, es casi una de las señas de identidad de sus estrategias de ,arketing. El pasado año vimos como, a pesar de que finalmente se haya lanzado eliPhone 4S, las expectativas por la rumoreada presentación del iPhone 5 generaron una enorme cantidad de contenido en los medios de comunicación de todo el mundo.

Justin Bieber sigue en la posición número uno, acumulando visitas récord con su vídeo “Baby”. Jennifer Lopez y su On the Floor (con Pitbull) se afianza en la segunda posición y Lady Gaga repite en tercer lugar con su tema Bad Romance.

El vídeo “Parto in letto” ha perdido fuelle después de dos meses subiendo posiciones y en esta ocasión pierde una a favor de Party Rock Anthem de LMFAO. Estos son los únicos dos vídeos que cambian posiciones.

Justin Bieber sigue siendo el líder en YouTube pero comienza a perder la batalla que mantiene con Eminem en la liga de los artistas con más de un vídeo en la lista.

Si la ley SOPA hubiese existido hace 10 años...

Si la ley SOPA hubiese existido hace 10 años hoy probablemente no existirían Google ni Yahoo!. Ni YouTube. Ni Flickr. Ni Wordpress oBlogger. Puede que tampoco Twitter ni Facebook. Incluso es muy posible que gran parte del negocio de Amazon no se hubiese desarrollado. Y que compañías como Spotify o NetFlix jamás se hubiesen puesto en marcha porque nunca se habría creado la necesidad de que existiesen.

Todo lo que se publica está protegido por derechos de propiedad intelectual. Todo lo que está en Internet es también susceptible deenlazarse, copiarse, modificarse o reenviarse. Internet es tan dinámica como sus usuarios, que cambian constantemente y con ello modifican la Red y lo que hay en ella. Esta filosofía, lejos de ser un problema, es un gran avance, y de hecho al calor de este modelo han aparecido algunos de los mayores avances del conocimiento, la tecnología o los negocios de la últma década.

Si hace 10 años normativas como SOPA-PIPA o la 'ley Sinde' hubiesen permitido boicotear y censurar un sitio web porque podría -condicional- perjudicar al propietario de los derechos de propiedad intelectual de un obra, probablemente Google -o Yahoo!- no existiría porque en aquel momento el supuesto perjudicado habría argumentado que el buscador iba contra su modelo de negocio al enlazar directamente contenido protegido sin pasar por una página de inicio.

Asimismo, YouTube o Flickr se habrían ahogado entre demandas porque nada más aparecer cientos e incluso miles de usuarios se dedicaron a 'colgar' vídeos y fotografías protegidos por derechos de autor. Wordpress y Blogger tampoco hubiesen durado mucho ya que los autores que publicaban en estas plataformas enlazaban contenido protegido, usaban fotos con derechos de autor y vídeos sin permiso, en muchos casos de YouTube o Flickr. Algo muy parecido hubiese sucedido con Twitter y Facebook. Al no haberse desarrollado todos estos negocios es muy probable que la 'nube' de Amazon no hubiese visto la luz porque no habría sido necesaria. Y Spotify o NetFlix no serían hoy empresas boyantes que luchan por adaptar a la filosofía de Internet dos negocios de contenidos protegidos por derechos de autor porque nadie vería películas en la Red y ni siquiera existiría la necesidad de hacerlo de forma legítima.

Si en China, Túnez o Cuba el Gobierno decide que una página web incumple ciertas normas de su legislación, la bloquea. Es censura. Hasta ahora, esto era inconcebible en las democracias occidentales. Pero cada vez hay más normativas, como la 'ley Sinde', que dejan la puerta abierta a que eso suceda. La diferencia es que China censura páginas web que publican información contraria a su ideología oficialmientras en España se censurarán páginas que pueden -o no- provocar un daño a la propiedad intelectual.

Pero como en dichos países, en las democracias occidentales será posible, e incluso fácil, saltarse un bloqueo técnico y puntual como el que se pretende. Silenciar una página web en una zona determinada no es difícil. Apagarla es casi imposible, por lo que también lo es evitar el acceso. Es decir, ni la 'ley Sinde' ni la SOPA ni la PIPA son remedios eficaces para frenar las descargas ilegítimas de contenido protegido por derechos de autor.

Quien quiera descargar una película sin pagar podrá seguir haciéndolo. Quien quiera encontrar música gratis lo hará. Es inevitable y es parte del cambio que supone Internet. Las leyes restrictivas que tratan de impedirlo no sólo no lo lograrán, sino que pueden provocar que compañías e individuos que quieran lanzar nuevos productos en Internet piensen en hacerlo en países donde no haya restricciones y la legislación sea coherente.

Estos intentos de censurar la Red sólo pueden calificarse de desastre. Para los usuarios y para las compañías, que destruyen parte su imagen cada vez que emprenden una campaña de este tipo. Desde su punto de vista la culpa de todos sus males la tienen los usuarios y quienes ponen en marcha páginas para facilitar que éstos puedan acceder de forma sencilla, barata y cómoda a películas, series, música, libros u otro contenido.

Pero el problema no son las páginas de descargas ni los usuarios, el problema es doble, legal y empresarial:

- Legal porque las leyes de propiedad intelectual no están adaptadas a los cambios y novedades que supone Internet. Un canal que, antes de lo que todo el mundo piensa, será el principal y el más importante para la difusión de todo tipo de contenido.
- Empresarial porque las compañías de contenido siguen siendo reacias a cambiar sus ciclos de negocio y a dar una oferta adecuada para Internet, tanto en tiempos como en precios.

Mientras no se solucionen ambos problemas lo que muchos llaman 'piratería' no dejará de serlo para los grandes productores de contenido y los gestores de derechos de autor, que prefieren decir#MeCaíEnUnaLancha a asumir su parte de culpa. Porque para la mayor parte de los autores nunca lo fue.
