My baby is growing up too fast! I feel like crying on a daily basis. I was so excited for him to start crawling, it seemed like such a fun milestone. But he has quickly moved on to pulling up on everything and using baskets, toys, whatever he can to walk around the house with. Crawling was one thing, if he starts walking soon I will really feel like I don't have a baby anymore :-( Here's to hoping that he stays in this stage for a LONG time!

Sorry! Its long! He always seems to stop doing whatever he's doing when I start filming him. Stinker!

So far it doesn't seem to be bothering him too much. He is waking up at night so I'll go ahead and attribute that to teething. We've been using the Orajel and that seems to be helping.

How cute is he?

This was just a couple of weeks ago and he's already graduated to this weird one leg straight while on one knee crawl. Of course he doesn't do it much in this video, but you get the picture.

He is going faster and further each day. I'm quickly learning what things he is going to get into (everything) and putting things up and out of reach. He's already found the outlets, thankfully they are all covered but we will have to be very diligent about putting them back on if we take them off! He basically wants anything that is not his and anything of Lily's he REALLY wants bad!

And maybe just maybe he has discovered that her water bowl is super fun to splash in.

Who needs toys when Mom has mixing bowls low and in my reach! And they're brightly colored, they must be for ME!

Like I said...he's into EVERYTHING! Makes my job harder, but I love watching him scoot around discovering his house in a brand new way.

8 Months

8 Months down....and I'm starting to THINK about first birthday party. Can you believe it? Not too much longer and we're going to have a ONE year old.

What is new? Probably a lot of things that I will forget. We had a super busy past month. We were in Indiana for 2 1/2 weeks, then when Maddox and I got home Jeff was gone for 6 days skiing in Taos. Being a single parent is tough, big props to those of you that do it 24/7. I found myself some days counting down the minutes to bedtime (and feeling like a horrible Mom while doing it!)

While Jeff was gone we kept ourselves busy with play dates with Jackson and we visited our friends Matt and Kayleigh who have Hadley and one on the way. In hindsight its too bad we were so busy with all our visiting because the day after we were at Kayleigh's house Maddox got this huge blister on his belly. I thought it was weird and decided to just keep an eye on it. A few hours later I noticed another blister, so of course I went to trusty 'ole Google and searched "blister on baby tummy". I found an article that listed 11 different common childhood rashes and came to the conclusion that it must be hives. That is until more of them started popping up, and popping up fast! Seriously, every time I looked at him he would have a new one. They were mainly on his tummy, back and a few on his head. By this time I had the thought in my head, could it be possible, that my 8 month old has chicken pox?? I revisited the article I read earlier and yes, it did sound possible. I called my Mom, sent her a picture and she agreed with me. I called the doctor the next day and took him in. When our doctor walked into the room and asked what was wrong and I told him I thought Maddox had chicken pox, he literally looked at me like I was crazy and said "No one gets chicken pox anymore" He took a look at Maddox and then stood up asked me to give him a second, he needed to get a second opinion because he'd actually never seen the chicken pox (for you old timers, every kid gets the chicken pox vaccine at 12 months now days) He's in practice with his dad, so his dad came in, looked Maddox over and said "Yep, its chicken pox!" They were both pretty surprised. They said they maybe get one case a year, so of course, the one case for this year had to by my baby. I told them not to be surprised if they end up with another one since Jackson sees the same doctor! So far no bumps for J, fingers crossed, since those two boys like to share pacifiers.

So we've had a super boring week, quarantined in our house. You would think I would take this opportunity to clean, but I just can't seem to get in the groove!

I did take his 8 month photos in his chair and he wasn't really interested. He was way more interested in banging the blocks together rather than smiling for the camera :-)

He loves to play with toys now. I remember those days when I thought he would never be interested in anything and now he wants anything and everything he gets his hands on!

I think its pretty hilarious, I give him a basket full of toys and he digs through it! I crack up everything I see him digging.

Oh, don't mind me, I'm just standing on my own for like a full minute. My parents are freaking crazy and they're going nuts. Whatevs....

So it might be time to lower the mattress!

We are spending more time in his room nowadays. He likes it up there. Especially being stuck in the house we have to just have a change of scenery at different points of the day.

He is also talking up a storm. I hear A LOT of dada and by a lot I mean all day everyday. Is it too much to ask for a mama thrown in there? I kid!

We had to make new friends since we're contagious.

I might have forgotten to mention that he is CRAWLING now! A post to come on that later, this one is just too long already! I feel like my life has just changed drastically and we'll have to change our whole routine. Although with a baby I've come to find out that once you have a routine established it seems to change!

Christmas #3

Whoa...almost done with Christmas posts!

We traveled to Indiana for Christmas, like we do every year, only this year I flew with Maddox and Jeff drove with Lily. We decided that would be best for everyone :-) I feel like I got the better bargain since Maddox is such a good flyer! As an extra bonus, on our flight up to Indy it was not full so Maddox and I got a row to ourselves. He got his very own seat which he was very excited about.

The first couple of nights we stayed with my brother and sister-in-law in Indianapolis. They have a dog, Colt, so Lily was in heaven! Maddox loved being around everyone (once he got over the shock of so many unfamiliar faces)

Mark and Jackie were so excited to give Maddox his Christmas presents he got one the second night we were there.

Of course Uncle Mark would get something basketball related. I guess he's trying to train him early!

We then headed down to my Mom's house in my hometown. We were down there a few days before my brother and sister were able to come down, its so silly that not everyone can take off 2 weeks at Christmas time!

So my Mom redid her bathroom a few years ago and got rid of her bathtub. AND we actually have a baby bathtub in Indiana, but my sister is in the process of building a house and they have a lot of stuff in storage and the bathtub just happened to be one of those things. So....we improvised, and MD got redneck baths while we were there ;-)

I'm not going lie, he pretty much loved taking a bath in that thing. By the end of the trip it was impossible to give him a bath without him pulling up to a standing position every second. Oh yea, did I forget to mention that we have a STANDER now?!?! We do!

While we were in town I got together with some of my girlfriends from high school. We get together every year for a Christmas party. This year we had a few extra guests! 4 of us had babies this past year.

Marshall - 10 Months, Maddox - 7 Months, Eli - 2 Months, Haylin -1 WEEK!

It was pretty fun! Maddox was very interested in Marshall, and he could not figure out why those other babies kept crying. Our friend Lori was a trooper for coming just 1 week after giving birth. I can only imagine how crazy next year is going to be, holy moly!!

Its so nice being at my Mom's house. We just do a lot of hanging out, spending time together. Playing games. This year a lot of our time was spent just watching Maddox. He went through a little withdrawl being home, when he didn't have at least 4 pairs of eyes watching him at all times.

We had our Christmas on Christmas Eve morning because my sister and her husband travel to his families houses on Christmas this always makes it a little less hectic for them. And it doesn't really matter what day you celebrate anyway!

MD made out! I'm pretty sure leading up to Christmas he opened at least one present per day and he still had presents to open up on Christmas morning! It ended up being a good thing that he had opened up quite a few beforehand because he got tired pretty quickly and in my family opening presents takes quite awhile because our Mom always goes overboard!!!

He was asleep by the time we were finished, so I didn't get a photo of him with all his presents.

He loved the dogs. Ha! But the dogs probably loved him more. I didn't realize how many of his treats that don't actually make it into his mouth until there were no dogs at my Mom's house then I realized how many ended up on the floor.

It snowed!!! One day while were all there for only a few hours and it was gone just as quickly as it started. I made Jeff go out in his pj's and it was a good thing we did because if we would have waited we would have missed it!

We had such a great time while we were in Indiana. Jeff left a few days before we did, so we missed him. Maddox got sick towards the end of the trip, but I think that was to be expected. Just a cold, no biggie. He got waaaay off his schedule, but again, to be expected, and it seems like every time I think we're on a schedule it changes so who cares! While we had a great time we were happy to get home (to our high 70 degree weather) to Daddy and Lily.

My Mom took a quilting class this past year and her first project that she did was make a quilt for Maddox. I know that she not only put a lot of hours into this quilt but lots of love too! (insert sappy "awwww" here)

I'm sure Maddox will treasure this, since his one and only Granny made it for him. Love you Granny!

The week before we left for Indiana we got together with Jeff's parents, brother and uncle for dinner and to exchange gifts. Too bad no ones gifts were in yet...oh well!

Santa came to our house early this year! We wanted to have Christmas as a family before we left for Indiana, so we celebrated Christmas this past Thursday. We got up, made coffee, Maddox ate a little breakfast and then on to opening presents! He actually had a good time opening presents. He would bang on the boxes, and we would help him grab the paper and rip it off. He loved eating the paper, even though it didn't taste good he kept going back for more.

His big present was a walking toy! He loves it and has a big smile on his face when he plays with it. It is music themed, I guess we're trying to train him early to be a musician :-)

Lily got a new bone, which she promptly chewed on the entire time we opened presents. She couldn't even be bothered to open up her new frisbee!

Jeff got anew hat, wallet, pjs and a mug from MD.

Jeff, Maddox and Lily decided to get me an iPad this year! What an amazing family I have, I'm the luckiest wife/Mommy in the world. I have a feeling that the iPad will make me more and less productive at the same time...ha!

7 Months

So all day yesterday I kept thinking, tomorrow Maddox is 7 months old! Only today did I realize that yesterday he was actually 7 months old. Whoops!

We had to go to the doctor yesterday for his second round of the flu shot. He's gained over 2.5 pounds since his 6 month appointment, yay! We have our first case of diaper rash, boo, but it had already mostly cleared up by our appointment yesterday and today he looks even better.

- Not crawling yet, but, he does get himself into the crawling position quite frequently.

- He is squealing, a lot! Not babbling too much yet, but lots of screams.

- Still loves his excersaucer. He plays in it a lot everyday. He got a new walking toy for Christmas, its one that he can play with sitting down as well, and he loves it! He has a huge smile on his face while he plays with it.

- Still loving his Lily Belle. He wants to pet her, and she obliges most of the time. He does get a little annoyed when she licks him in the face too much, but he puts up with it for the most part.

- Sitting up like a champ. I still put the bobby pillow behind him, just in case, and he actually likes to lay back on it and play with his feet.

- He's kind of got himself on a nap schedule. Naps at 9am, 1pm, then a little nap between 5 & 6. He's happier, I'm happier, its pretty awesome.

- Sleeping through the night again! Whoo hoo! We still have a night here and there where he wakes up, but most of the time he's going to bed 7:30/8 and sleeping until 7:30/8.

- We moved his small bathtub to our big bathtub and he loves, loves, loves playing in the bath! He splashes and plays with his toys. Uncle Chris got him a few new bath toys, one of them blow bubbles. Needless to say, it takes all the willpower that Lily has not to jump in that tub and get those bubbles. But she does a good job and stands by the tub and catches as many as she can :-)

- He's starting having "snack time" I feel like he's growing up too fast! My little boy is eating snacks!!! At our last doctor visit he said we could start giving him puffs and yogurt melts. We were already giving him Mum Mum crackers here and there. He LOVES the puffs! I think he really loves feeding himself more than anything. But we love it too because it actually gives us time to eat while he eats his puffs. He is such a quick learner, in the beginning it was tough for him to figure out he had to open his hand to get the puff in his mouth, but now before I know it he's finished all that were on his tray and wants more.

- We've started sign language, and by started I mean like yesterday. They say that 7/8 months is a good time to start, and it will be most likely at least 10 weeks before you see any signing back from them. So far we've been using sings for more, mommy, daddy, all gone and milk.

We visited the Christmas tree farm this past weekend! No, we did not cut down a tree, we just used the farm as a backdrop for photos :-)

It was actually pretty chilly that day, and we felt like pretty bad parents for not bringing a jacket for Maddox. In our defense it was much cooler at the farm than at our house. Also, he had on long sleeves under his flannel shirt, so honestly I think he may have been the warmest one of all!

A Day in the Life of Maddox....2nd Edition

You may remember that I did a day in the life of Maddox when he was a month or two old (I could go back and link to it, but I'm just too lazy to look for it) And I thought it was about time that I did another one!

Funny enough, the day that I finally remembered to start taking photos at the beginning of the day our friends Darci and Jackson came over. While they were over Darci mentioned that a friend of hers had done "a day in the life" blog post and she was going to do one too and had been taking photos all day. I swear, I think that we may have been separated at birth, its just too freaky how similar our families are :-)

So here we go!

6 Months

Well! Maddox is already 6.5 months old and I'm just now getting around to this post. I've been so busy with my photography business! Its a very good thing and I'm very blessed, but it doesn't leave me much free time to do much else.

We had Maddox's 6 month appointment a couple of weeks ago. First thing, he was down a few ounces from his 4 month appoitment. Last I heard babies are supposed to GAIN weight not lose it! He had been sick in between there and he was up from what his weight dropped down to while he was sick, but he still should have been higher. Turns out the poor thing was hungry. For some reason, and I'm guessing its because I was not eating or drinking enough, my milk production had slowed down and I'm just not able to keep up with what he needs. To say that I feel like the worst mother of the year would be an understatement. The doctor wasn't too concerned and he said it was totally up to me if I wanted to supplement with formula. He told me to add another meal of solids in and that would help. After stressing about it non stop for a few days I finally decided that we would just start supplementing. He's taking about 10-16 ounces of formula a day, a few days its been more and some days its less. And it really has made such a difference. He is so much happier now, he's like his old self again. He's still not doing a great job of sleeping through the night, but the doctor also said he's getting his bottom teeth so I'm sure that doesn't help!

Other than the fact that I was starving him, he looks great in every other way, thank goodness! He got his vaccines and his flu shot like an old pro. His height is right on track (25.5 in)

So, highlights of the new things he's doing:

- Sitting up like a champ! I can definitely leave him on the floor to play with toys and he's fine. I still put the bobby pillow behind him in case he tips back, and sometimes I think he does it on purpose just to recline.

- When he does tummy time he pushes himself backwards. He will scoot to the side sometimes too, and he can spin all the way around on his belly. I'm sure it won't be too long before he's crawling and I'll be thinking "Why did I want him to crawl?!?"

- He's had so many different foods:

Liked - butternut squash, acorn squash, pears, sweet potatoes, green peas, apples

Disliked: avocado, zucchini

Jury is still out: bananas (he liked them pureed with apples), peaches (he eats them but makes a funny face while doing so)

- His first Thanksgiving was a success. Jeff's grandmother and aunt were in town to celebrate with us. He had sweet potatoes as his Thanksgiving dinner and he stole the show (pretty much the entire time)

- He loves to give big, wet, slobbery kisses. He likes to pull hair, noses, ears, whatever he can get his little hands on.

- He definitely knows his Mommy and Daddy and is not too big of a fan if he doesn't see at least one of us.

- I made the mistake of letting him drink a little out of my cup one day and now whenever you're holding him and have a drink in your hand he wants a drink of it.

- Its becoming pretty near impossible to eat with him in my lap anymore. He tries to grab anything and everything and when I eat he just cries for whatever it is I have. So at home I have him on one side crying for my food and Lily on the other side begging for my food. Once he starts eating our food it might be the best diet ever, because I'm pretty sure I'm never going to get to eat anything ever again!

There is plenty more going on in our lives I just can't think of it to write it down! We have lots of Christmas fun coming up. A visit from Amanda, Eric and Layla this weekend to Christmas movie marathons and cookie baking. We get to see SANTA this Saturday (who has already been to our house, cause we're so special!) We have a family date with our friends the White's to go to the Christmas tree farm next weekend, we're also planning on seeing a Christmas play this year as well as go to a tree lighting. Our little family Christmas will be on the 17th before we all hit the road (and air!) for Indiana to celebrate the holidays with my family! And so we'll have something to look forward to after Christmas, Ice Skating at Discovery Green. Whew, I'm kind of tired after just writing that!

Just Keep Swinging

Recently we were out on a walk with another Mom and her little girl, Lucy, who is almost 2. Lucy loves to "wee!" (swing) so we stopped at the park. While Lucy was swinging Shana (her Mom) asked if I'd ever put Maddox in the swings, I hadn't, so I tried it. And he LOVED it! He was giggling and smiling. And I totally understand why Lucy says she wants "to wee" because as soon as I got Maddox in that swing my natural instinct was to go "Weee!!"

I didn't have my phone with me that day, but a few days later Maddox and I went to the park by our house and played again.

P.S. I really need to learn to STOP talking while I take video :-)

Eating

So we've graduated from rice and oatmeal cereal to actual foods! I decided I'm going to make all his food, because really, why not? I started out with squash and he loved it! I basically had nothing to wipe off his face because he wanted to eat every last bit of that delicious squash. I've been following the 4 day rule, so we waited 4 days to introduce a new food and I decided to try avocado.

So I Don't Forget

I wanted to make a list of the things that MD does that I think are cute or funny so I won't forget!!

- He loves appliances. Seriously, its like he has conversations with them, the fridge, the coffee maker, crockpot. He just laughs, smiles and talks to them.

- He loves looking at photos of other kids on the computer. Sometimes he'll sit with me in the office while I edit photos and he squeals and smiles when they are pictures of kids.

- He's reaching now! While I love it when he reaches for me, its pretty dang cute when he reaches for Lily. He grabs whatever he can on her and she takes it as an invitation to lick up whatever might be on his clothes, body or head :-)

- He wants whatever I'm eating now. I can't hold him and eat anymore, he cries and reaches for whatever it is I'm eating. I guess this will play to my advantage in a few months when he is eating what we're eating, I should lose weight if he eats all my food!

- He puts EVERYTHING in his mouth...everything. And while we're on this topic, people...it is NOT ok to put your finger/hand in a baby's mouth. Of course they want to put your finger in their mouth, they would put dog poop in their mouth if you let them. But you wouldn't let them.

- He's doing better at tummy time. Lily helps with that a lot. When he starts getting upset I call Lil over (if she's not already there!) and she can entertain him forever.

- Maddox gives the best hugs! When I get him up in the morning or after a nap he wraps his little arms around my neck so tight. Its probably the sweetest thing in the entire world. He was also so so cuddly when he was sick, I just had to soak it up because I know in a few years the last place he'll want to be is in his Momma's arms.

- He crinkles his nose when he smiles really big :-)

- He is the biggest flirt! He gets the girls attention with a big 'ole grin and then buries his face, but then peeks out to see if they are still looking. We might have trouble with this one!!

Granny's 3rd visit to Houston to see Maddox

I know there is probably stuff I'm missing (a good reason to blog more!) Everyday he changes and becomes more independent. The past few weeks I've been busy with photo shoots every Saturday and Sunday and its so hard for me to leave him! I can't imagine if I had to go back to work and leave him 8+ hours a day. Jeff makes fun of me on a daily basis about it, but even he will admit that I am getting a little better at it.

Last Monday he got a runny nose and a little bit of a cough. No fever so I thought we'd just let it run its course. On Friday he seemed more tired than he had been all week. He wasn't interested in eating or playing so I thought I'd call the doctor since it was Friday and I was pretty sure he'd be super sick on Saturday if I didn't! Good thing I did! His right ear was infected, not bad...yet. The doctor started him on amoxocillian and he LOVES it. When its gone out of the syringe he wants more! I hope he's like that with all medicine ;-)

We had a pretty quiet week, getting over this cold, but on a pretty regular basis we've been going to play groups. It was at a play group that Maddox sat up on his own. He was watching the other kids, and wanted toys, grabbing for them and actually playing with them! I was so impressed! I think its good for him to be around other kids close to his age. He loves to watch them and I know soon enough he'll be crawling around interacting with them.

One Month, Two Months, Three Months, Four Months

Hello, who stole my baby??

Because seriously! I'm not sure I can call this a baby anymore!

Sitting up and playing all on his own! With no help from his Mama! Ok, well maybe I do catch him before he tips over onto the floor from time to time. And I do retrieve the toys when he gets bored with the one he's got.

But what's this you say!?!? Sitting up...in a highchair...at a RESTAURANT! I in no way thought he was going to be ready for this at 4.5 months, but he did great!

I really felt like I had a kid, not a baby. He played with his toys while my friend Claudia and I ate lunch, it was crazy!

I do love the fact that he is interested in playing with toys now. And not just the toys on his excersaucer. I really felt like as his sole source of entertainment most of the day I was probably pretty boring. And I'm not going to lie. There are a couple of his toys that I think Lily and I like playing with more than he does. Holla!

I can always fall back on one thing to assure me I still have a baby. The fact that he's decided he wants to get up a minimum of twice per night to eat and maybe cry a little, maybe throw a screaming fit. You know, whatever the mood might be. I'm really hoping that once he gets over this cold he will go back to sleeping through the night. Because people (and my family can attest to this) I'm not the nicest person to be around when I'm going on 4 hours of sleep a night, especially when 3 of those 4 hours include sleeping with a baby on top of you, which for those of you that do not know, isn't really the most restful position to sleep in.

Three more days and its time to take 5 month photos. 5 MONTHS!! Holy cow! I have lots to update on! See ya then :-)

At Maddox's 4 month appointment last week Dr. Kagen said we could start him on rice cereal. At that moment I felt like my baby is growing up way to fast for me. Although I'm excited for him to do new things, he's already depending on me less. My brother and sister and I always make fun of our Mom because she always says she would love for us all to move home with her. Although I will not stop making fun of her for these kind of statements, I do understand them now :-)

Needless to say. We documented his first time with cereal with plenty of photos and videos, which I won't bore you with. Ha! Just joking! Here they come!!!

This is what happened when we weren't fast enough with another spoonful. We might have a mini Jeff on our hands when it comes to eating....

Also, Jeff is responsible for the early 90's gansta style hat. I debated taking it off for his first time eating cereal and then decided against it. Why? I don't know. Poor kid is going to hate us when he's older.

Indiana...again!

We recently made another trip to Indiana! Not only did we get to see family this trip, but we also attended a wedding of one of Jeff's fraternity brothers, so we saw lots of college friends as well.

First things first. The weather, it was amazing. Sorry to rub it in your faces Texans seeing as its October and still crazy hot here. Although I'm positive that in the next couple of months I will once again be glad I live in the south.

Maddox and I travelled up on Wednesday to Indianapolis. We stayed with Aunt Angie and Uncle Randy while we were there.

You know how you don't realize how much you depend on something until its gone? Well I depend a lot on having a place to sit Maddox at home. We have an excersaucer, a bumpo seat, a swing, bouncer chairs. So he has a few options when it comes to sitting, seeing as he can't sit on his own yet. Obviously those things didn't fit in my suitcase so we had to improvise when it came to having a place to put Maddox at Aunt Angie's.

It wasn't until the second to last day that we were there that I thought about actually sitting him in his stroller...duh! He also spent a lot of time on blankets on the floor. And it was there that he actually rolled over for the first time! Along with rolling over, he officially found his feet! They haven't made it into his mouth yet, but I'm sure its just a matter of time.

Maddox really missed his crib while we were away. And you know who missed it more than he did? Me! Because he woke me up constantly in the middle of the night and he would NOT take naps in his pack n play. So we had to improvise the nap situation a little too ;-)

There were also a lot of people willing to hold him while he slept. Imagine that!

Granny went with us to Munster, IN, where the wedding was and she watched Maddox while Jeff and I went to the reception. There was a lot of arm twisting done to get her to go with us. Not so much. In fact, I think Granny may have jogged up to Indianapolis if it meant she could have Maddox all to herself!

The two weddings we attended in September Maddox got presents at both of them! Aaron (the groom at the Indiana wedding) gave Maddox the Boiler Up t-shirt he has on in the picture above. We love all things Purdue!

Uncle Mark and Aunt Jackie got home from their honeymoon while we were still in Indiana, so we got to hang out with them a little bit too.

Papaw Thom and Mamaw Pam came up to visit too. Maddox got a tour of the One Click offices where Aunt Angie, Uncle Mark and Uncle Randy work, where Maddox is already a star. At that office I am now only known as Maddox's Mom. At least I've moved on from only being Angie and Mark's sister!

We had a busy week, but it was fun. And of course it was so nice to see my family again. We've gotten so spoiled by getting to see everyone so often this summer. December seems so far away! But I'm sure we'll be back up there before we know it.
