State of the Euphemism

Some euphemisms are intended to amuse, while others are created to mislead or at least put a positive spin on events.

On January 24th we watched a master practicing his craft.

There was so much BS in this SOTU I don't even know where to begin. So I'll put it in categories .

Jobs:

He mentioned jobs 34 times in the STOU. Therefore jobs must be important to him. Then explain to me how this plays out. When Boeing built a plant in SC (a right to work state) and announces it's opening, the government (NLRB) steps in and shuts it down. In other words the government is telling Boeing when and where it can operate. Not only does this wreak with overbearing governmental jurisdiction; what about new jobs so vital in helping improve the economy?

Bottom line. Not pissing off the unions is more important then jobs. Why? He needs them to get reelected.

This one is even better. Remember when he touted the line... shovel ready projects? Did you here him mention the Keystone Pipeline in the SOTU? I didn't think so. Depending on who you listen to job creation from this project can generate between 25,000 and 100,000 jobs. Obama said he's not going to make a decision until after the election. Why? Even though the unions are for it, the majority of his liberal base (including the Hollywood crowd) are against it. (You know the type, they and their Limo's perform on accolades, not gas) I don't know how this is going to go down but I do know the Canadians are threatening to sell their oil to China. If that happens Obama is fucked.

Bottom line. The plan is to stall it until after the election (God forbid he's reelected) and then pass it crying...We need more jobs...throwing his liberal base under the bus knowing his presidential ticket has already been punched. This strategy shows, once again, he places himself ahead of the country.

Taxes

We all saw it coming. In fact there was a lively (business) going on the internet betting on how many times he was going to say FAIR-SHARE-TAXES-MILLIONAIRES AND BILLIONAIRES. I don't know who won, but the total was 31 times.

First. Poor Warren Buffett's secretary. She sat there glowing, basking in the radiance of the Messiah. My heart goes out to her. I got a suggestion. Why not lower her taxes or have Buffett give her a raise?

Second. This was nothing but a blatant attempt to pit the have's against the have-nots. This fair share crap is starting to get a little long in the tooth.

He is trying to convince Americans if millionaires and billionaires "would only" pay their "fair share" the deficit and the economy is just going to be hunky-dory. This is disingenuous at best and an out-and-out-lie at worse. If the government taxed all millionaires and billionaires at 25%.. no 50%... lets go a step further... 100% ...it would not put a scratch in the national debt! His use of the term "fair share" is nothing more then sanctimonious horse shit. 47% of Americans who work for a living pay zero income tax! How is that fair? Bottom line. You can't cure a crack heads by giving them more crack. I guarantee you if millionaires and billionaires paid more in taxes not one dime would go to pay down the national debt.

The truth of the matter is the top-earning 25 percent of taxpayers earned 67.5 percent of nation's income, but they paid more than four out of every five dollars collected by the federal income tax (86 percent). The top 1 percent of taxpayers earned approximately 21.2 percent of the nation's income yet paid 39.4 percent of all federal income taxes. That means the top 1 percent of tax returns paid about the same amount of federal individual income taxes as the bottom 95 percent of tax returns combined.

Obama likes to speak in half truths and is also quite good at twisting the facts. Lets get back to Buffett's secretary. He likes to say millionaires and billionaires pay less tax, percentage wise, then her. Romney just released his tax returns so I will use him as an example. He made about $21 million on investment income and was taxed at 15% which is less then Buffett's secretary. But where did Romney get the money to invest? He got it from the years he had an earned income which was taxed at 35%. He then took that income he just paid 35% on and invested it then had to pay an additional 15% on the gains. So in effect he's paying 50%!

Obama seeks to divide and conquer. Since most Americans have the political savvy of a door knob it may work. His scheme is intended to project the rich stealing from the middle class and the poor. When in fact they are the job creators. Which begs the question. When was the last time a poor person gave anyone a job?

What we didn't hear

Usually when a president hits his third year in office he likes to expound on his accomplishments during the SOTU. Well in this case there aren't any, he can't run on his record, so he has to deflect the blame away from himself and direct it elsewhere. First Bush was to blame. Then Republicans became obstructionists... the party of ...NO. Failing that he lumped the entire Congress together as the ...do nothing congress. Now it's millionaires and billionaires who are responsible. Oh..almost forgot about those racist Teapartiers. It's always someone else's fault... never his.

BTW...he had about as much to do with killing Bin Laden as I did.

The mere mention of Obama in the same sentence with Lincoln is blasphemy.

One of my favorite lines used by Obama was during the raising of the debt ceiling crisis:

"I cannot guarantee that those checks (SS) go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it."

The scare tactic worked so well S &P downgraded our triple A credit rating.

Obama has a lot in common with OJ. Americans couldn't help but like them... till you strip away the facade.

On Thursday January 12th 2012 Obama asked Congress for another $1.2 trillion increase in the nation's debt limit which is not reflected in the political ad above.

On an interesting side note. SC is considered the reddest of red states, a state populated with Evangelical Christians, the "buckle" on the bible belt if you will.

South Carolina has picked the winner of every GOP presidential nomination fight since 1980. That's why it's surprising to me Romney's Mormonism drew more wrath then Newt cheating on his wife.

What is the government? For all intents and purposes it's a business. Of the four remaining candidates who better to run a business then Mitt Romney?

The GOP primary is a 3 ring circus. Romney was supposed to be going for the "hat trick" in SC when suddenly Santorum is crowned the winner in Iowa. Who's monitoring the precincts in Iowa ACORN?

Newt and Perry go after Romney for embracing capitalism. Perry goes as far as calling it "vulture capitalism" (probably why he's no longer is in the race). These two attack Romney trying to make his association with Bain Capital tantamount to Bernie Madoff. Romney being Romney, sits there and takes it on the chin. Democrats got to be eating this up with a spoon!

It gets even better,or worse, depending on your point of view.

Now the ringleader (ABC Nightline... just in time for the SC primary vote, a coincidence I'm sure) is interviewing Newt's second wife Marianne. Newt said he has been truthful about his indiscretions besides this happened over ten years. Not that it matters, but so did Bain Capital right? This tawdry episode is not going to go down well for Newt. Apparently, according to her, while he was chastising Clinton for his affair with Lewinsky he was conducting his own with Callista…pardon me...wait a sec.…I'm having a John Edwards moment.

What is her motivation? How much is she being paid? Or does she just enjoy twisting the knife in Newt's back? Have you noticed every time a GOP candidate sticks his head above water the MSM pushes it back down? The GOP better get their act together and stop fighting among themselves. Our job is tougher then Democrats. There are no O'Reilly's, Mark Levin's, or Ed Henry's that are going to be interviewing Obama. We have to beat the media and Obama.

Lets get to work.

Iran’s morality police are cracking down on the sale of Barbie dolls to protect the public from what they see as pernicious western culture eroding Islamic values, shopkeepers said on Monday.

As the West imposes the toughest ever sanctions on Iran and tensions rise over its nuclear program, inside the country the Barbie ban is part of what the government calls a “soft war” against decadent cultural influences. “About three weeks ago the morality police came to our shop, asking us to remove all the Barbies,” said a shopkeeper in a toy store in northern Tehran.

Iran’s religious rulers first declared Barbie, made by U.S. company Mattel, un-Islamic in 1996, citing its “destructive cultural and social consequences.”

The new order, issued about three weeks ago, forced shopkeepers to hide the leggy, busty blonde behind other toys as a way of meeting popular demand for the dolls while avoiding being closed down by the police. A range of officially approved dolls launched in 2002 to counter demand for Barbie have not proven successful, merchants told Reuters. The dolls named Sara, a female, and Dara, a male, arrived in shops wearing a variety of traditional dress, with Sara fully respecting the rule that all women in Iran must obey in public, of covering their hair and wearing loose-fitting clothes.

Sales are exploding especially in the Middle East. Business has been so brisk we have now begun development of the Jihad Ken doll."

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad recently visited Venezuela to discuss the Barbie situation with his friend Hugo Chavez.

Miss Kantor writes in her new book The Obamas that the stalemate in Washington over healthcare reforms, among other initiatives, led the Obamas to muse that losing the 2012 bid for re-election might not be so bad.

They began to feel that life in the White House was something to be endured rather than savored.

On TV this week, Mrs Obama — who was once pilloried for stating that her husband’s successful presidential campaign meant that ‘for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country’ — insisted her time in the White House had made her ‘start feeling euphoric and proud and, you know, proud of yourself and proud of your time’.

When it was suggested that some people were disappointed in the Obama presidency, she responded that they ‘may be confused about how much has been accomplished’.

Confused??? Accomplished??? If she means destroying the economy her husband gets an A+.

The only positive coming out of his presidency was the death of Bin Laden. Which was simply a case of being in the right place at the right time.

Mrs Obama hints of feeling victimised and misunderstood will lead many to conclude she can’t get out of the White House fast enough.

Fast enough is not fast enough.

Some might remark that ambitious people should be careful what they wish for.

To which Michelle could be forgiven for responding that she didn’t want to be in the White House in the first place: it was all Barack’s idea.

Occupy Wall Street protesters return to Zuccotti Park after barricades come down

Cops remove an Occupy Wall Street protester from Zuccotti Park after she tried to lie down on cardboard.

What do these people have in common with AIDS?
You can't get rid of either one.

Hundreds of Occupy Wall Street protesters streamed back into Zuccotti Park overnight Tuesday as the barricades surrounding the lower Manhattan plaza were finally removed.

The atmosphere turned celebratory as the campaigners hugged one another, enjoyed free lasagna and saw the resurrection of a small "People's Library."

The events were largely peaceful until 1:30 a.m. when a 50 to 70 protesters remained in the privately owned public space and a handful attempted to lie down on pieces of cardboard.

What they desperately need in NY.

Pieces of cardboard ain't gonna help.

The park's owner, Brookfield Office Properties, has banned the use of tents, tarps or sleeping bags and even forbids people lying down on the benches. The rules were introduced after hundreds of Occupy Wall Street demonstrators began camping out in the park in September. They stayed for nearly two months until cops evicted them Nov. 15.

"The park is enforcing the rules," an NYPD officer warned the protesters through a microphone.

"You are not allowed to lay down or sleep in the park.

"If you do not obey these orders, you will be arrested for trespassing. This is your final warning."

Some protesters shouted back, "Go home, terrorist!" while others carried handmade "angry pacifists" signs.

As park officials moved to confiscate the cardboard the group was on, a tussle ensued and two protesters were removed from the area in plastic handcuffs as the rest of the crowd shouted, "Shame, shame."

Occupy Wall Street protesters first took over Zuccotti Park, which by law is open 24 hours a day, on Sept. 17 as part of their campaign for greater social and economic equality.

Copycat encampments sprung up in hundreds of towns and cities across the U.S. and around the world.

After the New York protesters were booted in November's pre-dawn raid, they moved largely off-site.

Zuccotti Park was surrounded with metal barriers, and Brookfield sent in security guards to join cops in an attempt to enforce the no-sleeping rule and prevent the camp from re-emerging.

The number of NYPD officers and private guards at the site usually far exceeded the number of people who ventured into the barricaded space, and

on Monday, civil rights groups filed a complaint with the city Buildings Department that the barriers violated city zoning law.

The barricades were removed Tuesday.

"We're pleased the city is finally giving the park back to the people," said NYCLU Executive Director Donna Lieberman said.

"We hope Zuccotti Park can now resume its rightful place as a center for meeting and protest in New York City."

Columbia Teaches How to "Occupy" at $5001.09

Recently, Columbia University in New York proposed offering a class in Occupy Wall Street. I suppose the class will teach people how to camp out in a city park. Under a continuation of the Obama administration, this might actually become a good life skill.

One facet of the class that I want to point out is its cost. There is an ongoing debate over the cost of a college education and if it is worth it. In general, a typical student completes a degree in four years. Masters students, course of study is compressed, two years. Time and money become a real constraint when selecting classes.

The cost for one year of undergraduate education at Columbia is roughly $53,345 all in. That includes room, board, books, tuition, and fees. Divide that by how many credit hours a normal student takes (32/yr) and you arrive at $1667.03 per credit hour. Masters students pay more per credit hour for their classes.

If you are borrowing money to go to school, the actual cost of the credit hour goes up because it will cost you more when you repay the loan. And if you are on government aid, the American taxpayer gets to pay for it!

Given that the Occupy Wall Street class is a three credit hour class, it costs an undergrad $5001.09 to learn how to camp out in a park and beat a drum while articulating a far left manifesto. I shouldn’t forget to mention that the student ought to consider what a future employer might think when they see that class on a transcript. I suppose if you are going to work for a far left non-government organization it would look favorable. But, I don’t think it will look particularly sharp if you are trying to get a job in a field like consulting.

If students began looking at classes on a cost/benefit basis and extrapolating how the chosen class will help them in the future, we would see less fluff and more real stuff. Maybe it’s not the actual cost of a college education that is the real problem. It’s the classes that are taken while they are there.

I am really concerned about North Korea's appointment of the "dear leader", Kim Jung Ill's youngest son to be the new leader of North Korea -- a nuclear power!

After all, Kim Jung Un (pronounced Kim's young-un?) had NO military experience whatsoever before daddy made him a four-star general in the military. This is a snot-nose twerp who has never accomplished anything in his life that that would even come close to military leadership: he hasn't even so much as led a cub scout troop, let alone coached a sports team or commanded a military platoon. So, setting that aside, next they make him the "beloved leader" of the country. Terrific!!!

Oh, crap! I'm sorry. I just remembered that we did the same thing here, we took a community organizer who has never worn a uniform and made him Commander-in-Chief; a guy who has never led anything more than an ACORN demonstration and made him the leader of this country. Never mind.

Allow me to introduce to you my fictitious friend Manny M. Dorlors´. Pronounce Dorlors´ with a Spanish inflection like...Dor--lors´

I like to think the M stands for More.

Manny today is a rather clean-cut intelligent young man who came to this country with his family legally when he was still a boy. Coming from Cuba they were almost broke. To compound the problem no one in the family could speak a word of English but over time they learned how. To be fair Manny and his little sister quickly learned to speak English fluently and his Mom and Dad did well enough to get by. Settling in Miami they avoided culture shock and were surprised to discover every time you turned on the lights they actually came on.

Well as time went by, and Manny graduated from high school, his father could not afford to send him to college. Manny instead began looking for work. He was a hard worker but could only find dead end jobs. Nevertheless, Manny strived to get ahead and at his new job he always volunteered to work overtime as a forklift operator at the J&C warehouse.

I think it was around 1999 when Manny had saved enough money to buy himself a laptop computer. When he brought it home he couldn't even figure out how to turn it on. However, over a very short period of time he became infatuated with it. Soon he understood with great clarity computer technology. It wasn't long before he could take a computer apart and put it back together almost blindfolded.

Manny began to realize the potential of earning money with his newly aquired skills. In the computer magazine he subscribed to they sang the praises and income potential of website development. He decided to investigate.

That Manny was something...when he saw an opportunity look out Loretta. Everyday, and I mean everyday, Manny taught himself, and became immersed, in website development. He would stay up all night, go to work, come home, and only go to sleep every other night. He did this for two years only sleeping soundly on weekends. It wasn't long before he filed for two patents. Several companies offered him a tidy sum for the patent rights. Although tempted, he turned them down. A better outcome was just a short hop away. Why sell the patent rights when he could develop it himself he thought? What he did may have been a gamble but it also quenched the urge to take care of his family.

Six and a half years after Manny was first offered $450,000 by Sincom Systems he had created MMD Web Developers MMD for short. Today the privately owned company is worth over 165 million and employs 26 people and Manny is considering going public with a IPO.

To his credit he took care of his Mom and Dad and little sister. They lived the life never dreamed of in Cuba. But Manny also indulged in living large. He takes home an annual salary of $10 million but spends over $12 million. Although he has never married he has 4 homes (and throws lavish parties), six cars, an 85 foot custom Hatteras, and a Cessna Citation. His credit cards are maxed out. The IRS is breathing down his neck for some serious back taxes. Trans Union, Equifax, and Experian have all downgraded his A-1 credit rating of 809 to 362.

What is Manny's problem?

A. Simple... he needs more revenue.

B. He spends to much.

The correct answer is A according to Obama and the rest of the Democratic Party.

This is how it started, and why he came to be ridiculed as the Messiah. He could do all this with a wave of the hand as the assholes behind him are cheering.

...this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal...

Surely if he could bring all this about, shutting off the BP oil spill would have been a minor miracle for him which he failed to perform.

First I thought all the candidates did pretty well and personal attacks were kept to a minimum.

I am going to try to put them in order of how they stack up. The candidate with the least chance of winning given the higher number or the first to drop out if you will.

Number 7

Jon Huntsman

Seems like a nice guy but kind of shallow. Seems like his heart is not in it. Has tons of money probably helped by his father who is a billionaire. Comes across as a little to plain vanilla and is someone who would be hard to rally around. When he kicked off his campaign it had all the flare of opening a bottle of flat ginger-ale.

Number 6

Michelle Bachmann

Very attractive candidate in more ways then one. Teaparty favorite. Yet sometimes it's as though she's a little mouse crying for attention in the back of the room. Unfortunately she was the only bomb thrower at the debate. Lobbed a few at Paul and Newt. It was a desperate attempt to score some poll numbers and I understand why she did it. She is so far down in the polls she had to roll the dice. I like her and would support her if I thought she had a chance. Sadly it is not to be.

Number 5

Rick Santorum

I truly feel bad for Rick a former senator. He looks good, speaks well, and I agree with his postions. No one has worked their ass off campaigning more then Rick Santorum. What is there not to like? The poor guy just can't get any traction which is a mystery to me.

Number 4

Ron Paul

This may come as a surprise to some but if Ron Paul became a two term president, under a Republican congress, I bet he could slash the national debt by 80%. That is his strong point. On the negative side he projects someone who is weak on national defense. When he makes remarks like.. I'm paraphrasing here..."I don't care if Iran builds a nuclear bomb or not." Scary to say the least.

We should elect a president predicated on substance. The reality is, unconsciously or not, appearance has a lot to do with winning the White House. Can you visualize him as president; his wife as first lady? Paul comes across to me as a Barney Fife-like character. On top of that (unless he changed his tune recently) he said if he didn't get the nod he would not support the Republican nominee. He may attempt a third party run which would probably divert just enough votes for the Messiah to get a second term. In other words, he may do for the Republicans what Ralph Nader did for Democrats.

Number 3

Rick Perry

Rick Perry jumped into the campaign like God's gift to America. It was reminiscent of Hillary's campaign... preordained to become the next president... until the Messiah came along. He was totally unprepared entering the race and stated some rather half-baked views on illegals which shot him in the foot early and has still not recovered. The little...Have a heart lecture comes to mind.

That said this last debate I thought he did quite well. His credentials speak for themselves. Probably the most successful governor in the United States. Just sometimes he comes across as a little dumb which would be ok if he was a Democrat running for the VP spot. Bottom line. He admits he's not a great debater which will kill him against the Messiah. For some reason I still like this guy and he has no problem with campaign contributions. Maybe he's diamond in the rough.

Number 2

Newt Gingrich

Hands down the smartest person on the stage. An historian extrodinaire. He could tell you what color tie FDR wore when he made his famous...A date which will live in infamy speech before congress. The MSM is beginning to realize he is a serious threat and are readying themselves for an all out attack. Newt's got a lot of dirty laundry which has been washed by the years but still shows some stains here and there. Married three times, admitted extramarital affairs, the Fannie and Freddie incident, $500,000 shopping spree at Tiffany's, etc. The commercial with Pelosi on Global Warming (climate change back then) was particularly revolting. He suffers from the O'Reilly syndrome. Smart, dead on with the issues, but do you really like him? That is the big issue with Newt, like-ability-electability. Can he go the distance? Can America overlook some personality traits and say...hell with liking him we need someone who can fix America? Oh...and one more thing. I would pay to see Newt debate the Messiah. He would mob the floor with him. We'll just have to wait and see it play out.

Number 1

Mitt Romney

No candidate is perfect. Some conservatives are still waiting for their night in shining armor to ride in and save the day. We must work with what we have and in Mitt Romney we have a damn good viable candidate unlike 2008. For starters Romney has the look, the air of a president. I can visualize him in the White House. I can see his wife as first lady bringing back the dignity to the White House once exemplified by Laura Bush .

Does Romney have faults? Yes. Romney-Care and his flip-flop on abortion is his Achilles heel. But this much I can assure you. There will be no dirt, no matter how many rocks the MSM tries to turn over. There will be no shady business dealings, no mistresses coming out of the woodwork claiming 13 year affairs. Surely the onslaught of being a Mormon will continue. I can only say this... isn't a Mormon better then the Muslim, or whatever religion he is currently practicing this week is?

Romney has character and a great track record in the private sector. He is a uniter not a divider. If I could give him some advice I would like to see a little more...fire in the belly..from him but I guess it's just not his style.

I hope and pray Mitt Romney is the next president of the United States.

That said I will support 100% any of the candidates above if they become the nominee.

Good luck to all of them and may God give them guidance.

The country is in such a mess they sure as hell are going to need it.

National hardware retailer Lowe's has pulled its advertisements from the TLC show "All-American Muslim."

However, since announcing that they would be pulling their ads from the TLC show, Lowe’s has been met with a flurry of heated criticism.

The company has issued a statement stating:

“While we continue to advertise on various cable networks, including TLC, there are certain programs that do not meet Lowe’s advertising guidelines, including the show you brought to our attention. Lowe’s will no longer be advertising on that program, we do however encourage all our employees and valued customers to continue watching to see which one explodes first."

The odds of getting this drone back are about as likely as me donating to the Democratic party.

These are the times we live in. We are all aware a drone went down in Iran presumably on a spying mission. Our government tells us the drone malfunctioned and went down. The Iranians claim they brought it down. Under this administration, the lack of trust, we really don't know what to believe. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

I almost felt embarrassed for the Messiah. We were in all probability spying, and then with a straight face he expects (almost pleading) the Iranians to return the drone.

His naiveté is truly remarkable. Although it was an embarrassing incident which we tried to lie our way out of, I don't recall Eisenhower being naive enough to expect the Russians to return the U-2 after Gary Powers was shot down spying over Russia.

PS: The Iranians are demanding an apology (knowing this president) one should be forthcoming shortly.

Obama appeals to Iran to give back downed US top-secret drone, won't comment on intelligence

Iranian TV showed the unmanned "stealth" aircraft apparently undamaged

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has delivered a formal request to Iran for the return of a U.S. surveillance drone captured by Iranian armed forces, but said it is not hopeful that Iran will comply.
President Barack Obama said Monday that the U.S. wants the top-secret aircraft back. "We have asked for it back. We'll see how the Iranians respond,"

Obama said during a White House news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Monday.

In an interview broadcast live Monday night on Venezuelan state television, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said nothing to suggest his country would grant the U.S. request.

"The Americans have perhaps decided to give us this spy plane," Ahmadinejad said. "We now have control of this plane."
Speaking through an interpreter, Ahmadinejad said: "There are people here who have been able to control this spy plane, who can surely analyze this plane's system also. ... In any case, now we have this spy plane."

He added, "Very soon, they're going to learn more about the abilities and possibilities of our country."

On Tuesday, a semi-official Iranian news agency said authorities have shrugged off the U.S. request. Defense Minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi said the United States should apologize for invading Iranian air space instead of asking for the return of the unmanned aircraft.

Obama wouldn't comment on what the Iranians might learn from studying the downed aircraft. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said it's difficult to know "just frankly how much they're going to be able to get from having obtained those parts."

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Panetta said they're not optimistic about getting the drone back because of recent Iranian behavior that Clinton said indicated "that the path that Iran seems to be going down is a dangerous one for themselves and the region."
"We submitted a formal request for the return of our lost equipment as we would in any situation to any government around the world," Clinton told reporters at a State Department news conference with British Foreign Secretary William Hague.

"Given Iran's behavior to date we do not expect them to comply but we are dealing with all of these provocations and concerning actions taken by Iran in close concert with our closest allies and partners," she said.
Panetta said the request to return the drone was appropriate. "I don't expect that that will happen," he said. "But I think it's important to make that request."

Neither Obama nor Clinton would provide details of the drone request, but diplomatic exchanges between Washington to Tehran are often handled by Switzerland, which represents U.S. interests in Iran. The State Department said Monday that the Swiss ambassador to Iran met with Iranian foreign ministry officials last week but refused to say what they discussed.

Iran TV reported earlier Monday that Iranian experts were in the final stages of recovering data from the RQ-170 Sentinel, which went down in Iran earlier this month. Tehran has cited the capture as a victory for Iran and displayed the nearly intact drone on state TV. U.S. officials say the aircraft malfunctioned and was not brought down by Iran.
Despite the incident, Clinton said the administration and its allies would continue to push Iran to engage over its nuclear program while at the same time increasing pressure on the regime with new, enhanced sanctions.

"We obviously believe strongly in a diplomatic approach. We want to see the Iranians engage and, as you know, we have attempted to bring about that engagement over the course of the last three-plus years. It has not proven effective, but we are not giving up on it," she said.
Standing beside Clinton, Hague agreed.

"We're not giving up on engagement with Iran, but on a number of occasions Iran has behaved in a way in recent weeks and months which has intensified confrontation with the rest of the world," he said. "We have seen an increasing predilection for dangerous and illegal adventures on the part of at least parts of the Iranian regime."

Clinton and Hague referred to the storming of British diplomatic compounds in Tehran, allegations that Iran tried to arrange the assassination of the Saudi ambassador to the United States, Iran's ongoing support for militant groups and its continued defiance of demands to prove its nuclear program is peaceful.
