Nokia X5 is announced with dual rear camera, notched display with a $150 price tag

Today HMD Global in China announced Nokia X5, also known as Nokia 5.1 Plus. The smartphone runs stock Android 8.1 Oreo operating system and HMD Global promises a swift update to Android P when the final version of the OS gets out. The mid-range is built around a 5.86-inch HD+ (720x1520 pixels) display (19:9 aspect ratio) with 2.D curved glass on the edges and boasts an 84% screen-to-body ratio. This notch is home to an 8-megapixel selfie sensor that offers various AI enhancements such as a blurred background effect. The rear setup sits vertically on top of the glass build and boasts a main 13-megapixel camera and a secondary 5-megapixel sensor which, together, are capable of producing portrait images. Also, it’s worth noting that the setup is coupled with a dual-tone LED flash. It is powered by Helio P60 processor and backed by a 3,060mAh battery.

Connectivity options on this phone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port. Onboard sensors include an ambient light sensor, accelerometer, digital compass, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. It bears a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel. Nokia X5 3GB RAM+32GB storage option is priced at $150. The 4GB RAM+64GB storage option costs $210. Nokia X5 will be available in three color variants – Black, Blue, and White. Online retailers like Suning, JD, Lynx and Nokia's own official website will take orders starting tomorrow, July 19, only in China for the time being. There is no word yet on whether the company plans on launching this globally.

Samsung's 4K "Onyx Cinema LED" display for large screens, currently available only in a few countries across the world, is set to come to India in 2018, a top company executive said on Wednesday. The 34-foot giant LED screen technology has already earned its name after having been installed in the US and Europe offers Onyx View that supports HDR content, Onyx 3D and Onyx Sound all of which provide a life-like experience on a big screen, more pleasing to the eye than a traditional projector. Samsung has partnered with PVR Cinemas and INOX Group to install the Onyx Cinema LED screens in the country. At first, they will be installed at the PVR multiplexes in Delhi and Mumbai, but Samsung has aggressive plans to expand the availability. The Korean company is hoping to convert at least 20 percent of the total 10,000 cinema screens in India to Onyx Cinema Screens by 2020.

Apple will use OLED display on all models from 2019

While everyone is expecting to see three new iPhone models this year, two with OLED screens and a cheaper model using LCD, a new report says that Apple will use all-OLED line-up from 2019. The biggest OLED manufacturers currently are LG Display and Samsung Display. The industry expects that a completely OLED iPhone lineup might mean the trend will spread to midrange devices of competitors, therefore boosting the average retail price.

Apple put an OLED display on a phone for the first time in the iPhone X last year. The news did not end well for its current LCD supplier Japan Display (JDI) which saw its shares plummet with 10% by the end of the day. Japan Display currently is not producing OLED panels but is planning to start by 2019 if it finds investment to launch a production line.

Samsung's low end Galaxy J2 (2018) specs leaks online

Just after the announcement of Galaxy A8 duo a couple of days ago, it's now time for the low end of Samsung's spectrum to shine brightly. Previously thought to be Galaxy J2 Pro (2017). Galaxy J2 (2018) received the full leak treatment today. Under the model number SM-J250 the device will have a 5-inch SuperAMOLED display with an unimpressive resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. It will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core SoC with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz along with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It will also feature 1.5GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory along with a dedicated microSD card slot.

Camera-wise, you're getting an 8 MP shooter on the back, and a 5 MP unit on the front and they both have an LED flash. The J2 (2018) has dual-SIM support, Bluetooth 4.2, LTE Cat.4 and 802.11n Wi-Fi. A 2,600 mAh replaceable battery charges through a microUSB port. The leak says the device will be launched in Russia for under 8,000 Rubles which translates to around $136.

Samsung has finally unveiled its new Galaxy A 2018 series. The handsets that were previously referred to as the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 (2018) have been officially launched as the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018). These two sit closer to the S-series than any of their predecessors and even bring something unique. The new premium mid-range smartphones from Samsung feature a large Infinity Display and dual front camera– a 16MP + 8MP combo with Live Focus. The Live Focus feature lets you chose whether the background is in focus or blurred to a soft bokeh. The phone will seamlessly switch between the two front cameras to get the effect you need. The main camera has been upgraded with a brighter f/1.7 aperture for the 16MP sensor. Digital stabilization was added for steadier videos while the Hyperlapse mode will help condense things to just the gist.

The smaller A8 has a 5.6" screen while the A8+ stretches to 6" combining 1080p resolution in 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Both phone has IP68 waterproofing and fast charging over USB-C. The battery capacities are 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh for the smaller and larger models respectively. The Galaxy A8 will be priced at €499, while the A8+ (2018) will cost €599. These prices are for Europe, but you can expect them to carry comparable price tags in other markets.

Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 845: Offers clues to next year's smartphones

A couple days ago at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, the company finally unveiled its next flagship smartphone processor: the Snapdragon 845. The chipset sports improvements across the board, ranging from new processing technology to an improved modem. Qualcomm’s press release is heavily focused on multimedia, virtual reality, and security, but we’re going to dive into everything that this chip has to offer next year’s flagship smartphones. The chipset will retain the same 10nm footprint as its predecessor, but feature revamped architecture that brings about new features like 4K HDR video capture on smartphones and improved AI processing. The Snapdragon 845 will likely be found its way to Windows 10 laptops as well.

The Snapdragon 845 being the first SoC to be based on a DynamIQ big.LITTLE CPU organization also undoubtedly suggests that the Kryo 385 CPUs are based on ARM's Cortex A75 and Cortex A55 IPs, as these are the only DynamIQ compatible CPU cores available to date. The Kryo 385 gold/performance cluster runs at up to 2.8GHz, which is a 14% frequency increase over the 2.45GHz of the Snapdragon 835's CPU core. The silver/efficiency cluster is running at 1.8GHz, this is clocked slightly slower than the A53's on the Snapdragon 835. Qualcomm has also implemented 2MB of L3 cache, which is designed to improve efficiency and latency across the CPU. Nevertheless the efficiency cores promise 15% boost in performance compared to its predecessor.

When it comes to graphics, Qualcomm says the new Adreno 630 GPU is both 30 percent faster and 30 percent more power efficient than the Snapdragon 835's Adreno 540. The main benefit of this extra performance will be seen when using the Adreno 630 to power mobile VR experiences like a Gear VR or Google Daydream. And when combined with Qualcomm’s new Multiview rendering, the Snapdragon 845 should be able to hit 120 fps at 2K x 2K resolutions.

Another significant improvement is the Snapdragon 845’s image signal processor (ISP), the Spectra 280 ISP. With the new Spectra ISP, there is a much stronger focus on pixel quality and color volume, which results in more accurate, more vibrant and more lifelike photos and video. Qualcomm is going to be the first with Ultra HD Premium video recording, which translates to being able to capture 4K HDR video footage.

Artificial intelligence is everywhere these days and it’s a key focus for the 845, with Qualcomm now on its 3rd-generation of AI platform. The firm is touting three times the performance compared to the 835 with lower latency, improved privacy and better reliability. This will mean using digital assistants will be faster, more accurate and more natural.

The Snapdragon 845 is Qualcomm’s first SoC to have an SPU (secure processing unit), which is a new subsystem designed to protect data about your fingerprints, iris, mobile payments, SIM, and more.

The new chip has already started shipping to manufacturers and is due out in devices early next year. That means there’s a pretty good chance we’re going to see quite a few devices announced in roughly a month from now at CES. Huawei has already announced its intentions to use the chip on an unnamed flagship, and if the 835 is any indication, most of the other major Android manufacturers will join them soon enough.

Nvidia announces Titan V, 'The most powerful PC GPU ever'

NVIDIA has announced the Titan V, a prosumer graphics card based on the company's brand new Volta architecture using 12nm process that supersedes the previous Pascal architecture found on the Titan XP. Nvidia’s new Titan V offers an unprecedented level of computing performance in a single graphics card. The company said that the Titan V produces 9x more performance than the Titan XP in deep learning compute tasks. It’s got 21.1 billion transistors and delivers 110 teraflops of computational power, with 12GB of HBM2 memory, 5120 CUDA cores, and 640 “tensor cores”.

Speaking about Nvidia’s goals with the Volta architecture, CEO Jensen Huang said: “Our vision for Volta was to push the outer limits of high performance computing and AI. We broke new ground with its new processor architecture, instructions, numerical formats, memory architecture and processor links. With TITAN V, we are putting Volta into the hands of researchers and scientists all over the world. I can’t wait to see their breakthrough discoveries.”

Unlike the Tesla cards, the Titan V is a proper graphics card. It has three DisplayPort and one HDMI outputs, it uses the standard GeForce driver stack, and it will play games. It'll probably play them quite well, although Nvidia hasn't made any gaming performance claims thus far. That's because, although it's a graphics card, it's not really being aimed at graphics applications. Rather, it's being aimed at the same kinds of GPU-based computation (especially machine learning) applications that the Tesla cards are meant for, just on a slightly smaller scale. Titan V would be used in a workstation PC, rather than a compute cluster in a datacenter.

The Titan V is available today for $3000 and is limited to two per customer.Also it comes in gold and black.

Verizon exclusive Asus Zenfone V is now official with 23 megapixel shooter

Asus has just unveiled a new smartphone dubbed as Zenfone as a Verizon exclusive in the US. The carrier-exclusive smartphone isn't a rebadged version of an existing one, but rather a new device with a model name V520KL. The ZenFone V is a premium mid-end smartphone, featuring a Snapdragon 820 processor and a 5.2-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Under the hood Snapdragon processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage. A microSD card slot is available for memory expansion. The phone supports PowerDelivery 2.0 via USB-C.

Talking about the cameras, Asus Zenfone V is equipped with a 23-megapixel rear camera that comes with f/2.0 aperture, auto-focus, OIS, Dual-LED real tone flash. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel camera with a f/2.0 aperture. The camera app offers a lot of shooting modes for the users.

iPhone X is unveiled: Full front display is now reality

10 years after the launch of the phone that redefined what “smartphone” means, we have the iPhone X (pronounced ten), introduced by Apple CEO Tim Cook at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple's new campus. Its new Super Retina Display uses a 5.8-inch OLED display with a full-screen design. At the 10 years anniversary of original iPhone, the sole hardware button that controlled iOS has been retired. It’s all screen on the front now and it marks more than one first for Apple. Its new Super Retina Display uses a 5.8-inch OLED display made by Samsung! The screen panel is called Super Retina Display with 458ppi pixel density (the sharpest iPhone yet, the resolution is 1,125 x 2,436px). Both HDR10 and Dolby Vision are supported and the panel offers a whopping million-to-one-contrast ratio. And the 3D touch is still here.

The bezels that are so familiar to Apple buyers have melted away, leading to an odd shoreline up north – the selfie camera, earpiece and several new sensors live there. They enable FaceID, the replacement of TouchID. The Home button is removed, and Tap to Wake is now a feature. You can also use Raise to Wake, then swipe up from the bottom of the display to unlock the iPhone or return to the Home screen. Swipe up and pause to enter multitasking.

The phone is powered by the Apple A11 chipset, which evolves the two-tier CPU design – it has two powerful cores and four energy-efficient ones. A special neural engine inside this chip helps power Face ID. Apple says Face ID can’t be spoofed by photographs, masks, and makeup, and changing your actual appearance with a hat or beard or makeup won’t prevent Face ID from working. Apple says all the processing is completed locally and securely, and the feature only works when you’re eyes are open and you’re paying attention and not looking away.

iPhone X has dual 12MP sensors with dual optical image stabilization which is a first for the iPhone. Both Portrait Mode and Portrait Lighting from the iPhone 8 Plus are also available on iPhone X. iPhone X is the first mobile cam to shoot 4K 2160p video at 60fps. The highest possible 1080p frame rate also doubled, now reaching the impressive 240fps. The front-facing camera on iPhone X supports Portrait Mode and Portrait Lighting as well. The selfie camera also gains Portrait mode thanks to the depth info provided by FaceID, including portrait lighting.

There are two color options: Silver and Space Grey. Phone's pre-order start October 27, sales begin November 3. The 64GB model will cost $999 and the 256GB model costs $1,149. In Europe, the prices start at £999 in the UK and €1,150 in Germany.

Face ID projects more than 30,000 invisible IR dots. The IR image and dot pattern are pushed through neural networks to create a mathematical model of your face and send the data to the secure enclave to confirm a match, while adapting to physical changes in appearance over time. All saved facial information is protected by the secure enclave to keep data extremely secure, while all of the processing is done on-device and not in the cloud to protect user privacy. Apple has officially announced two new iPhones: iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus on it's 1st ever media event at Steve Jobs Theater. While the star of Apple's event is the 10 year anniversary iPhone X, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus bring enough improvements to carry the lineup on their own. The Apple iPhone 8 and 8 Plus bring a new design with glass on the front and back, the latest Apple A11 Bionic six-core chipset, new cameras, louder stereo speakers and new durable glass. Silver, space gray, and a “beautiful new gold finish” are available color options. Matte black, jet black, and rose gold are no longer available.

As usual Apple is bringing a new chipset with its new iPhone lineup. The new processor is called A11 Bionic. The chip features two high-powered cores that are 25% faster than the corresponding ones in the A10 Fusion. The other four cores are power efficient and are 70% faster than the two low-power cores in the A10 Fusion. The GPU is the first Apple-made one and is comprised of 3 cores, promising 30% faster performance compared to the GPU inside the A10 Fusion.

Underneath the glass the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display are new units but of the same resolution as the ones on the iPhone 7/7 Plus. Both cameras are also improved with a new 12MP camera sensor and less noise. iPhone 8 Plus has two new sensors and a new feature called Portrait Lighting. The new camera system shoots 4K 60 fps and 1080p 240 fps for the first time. iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are also calibrated for augmented reality with its new camera, chip, and sensors.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus both feature Bluetooth 5.0 and wireless charging. Both iPhones support the Qi open wireless standard to work with popular wireless chargers. Apple Stores will carry wireless chargers from Mophie and Belkin. The two phones also support fast charging - you can get from flat to 50% in 30 minutes.

The Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus go on pre-order on September 15 and on sale on September 22. The iPhone 8 costs $699 for the 64GB model or $849 for 256GB. The iPhone 8 Plus costs $799 for the 64GB model or $949 for 256GB.

Apple unveils new Series 3 Watch with LTE standalone voice call support

After several months of rumors, Apple today has officially unveiled its 3rd generation Watch with support for standalone LTE connectivity via an eSIM, sharing your phone number with your iPhone. This means you can receive calls even if you left your phone at home. The display of the watch is the antenna for 4G LTE and 3G. The Apple Watch has grown quickly – so fast in fact that it is now the #1 watch in the world, topping the former leader Rolex. In addition to LTE, there’s a new dual-core processor with up to 70% faster performance. Siri can also talk – which is welcoming. There’s also a new W2 Apple chip that is 50% more power efficient for Bluetooth and WiFi.

The Apple Watch Series 3 will support Apple Music independent of the iPhone, allowing users to “stream 40 million songs from their wrist.” The new watch also features a barometer to count the flights of stairs you’ve climbed during your day. It also features much more extensive heart care. You heart statistics are now more visible and include resting heart rate and recovery heart rate. And if the watch detects a high heart rate and you’re not moving, it can sound an alarm. With all these new features, the Apple Watch Series 3 is the same size as the Series 2.

Two new color options are available: gold aluminum and a special Black ceramic. But not all new models will have wireless connectivity. The Series 3 with cellular will cost you $399, without is $329. The Series 1 remains available at a lower cost at $249. They will be available 9 markets initially (with multiple carriers supported). Pre-orders start on September 15 and sales begin on the September 22. A wider selection of markets will get the non-cellular model.

Alongside the new watch, Apple is releasing a new version of Watch OS 4. Coming out on September 19, it features smart coaching with high intensity interval training and automatic swim sets counting (obviously, the watch is swim-proof).

Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) features a full LTE and UMTS cellular radio that switches seamlessly to cellular when it is away from iPhone. The watch shares the same number as iPhone so there’s no need to provide an additional number to family, friends or colleagues; and to help get customers started, participating carriers are also offering special introductory cellular plans at launch. Customers have the ability to make cellular calls directly with Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) and, when paired with AirPods, enjoy a seamless and fully wireless experience. Apple also pioneered an industry-first antenna design that uses the display itself as both a transmitting and receiving element for LTE and UMTS, while introducing a built-in eSIM that is over one-hundredth the size of a traditional SIM card, making over-the-air activation possible without compromising space.2

Powering Apple Watch Series 3 is the S3, Apple’s third-generation architecture featuring a faster dual-core processor, which allows for quicker app launch times and smoother graphics, and, for the first time, enables Siri to speak using the built-in speaker. watchOS 4 features an updated Heart Rate app, giving even more insight to heart rate, including measurements during resting, workout, recovery, walking and Breathe sessions. Customers can also choose to receive a notification when their heart rate is elevated above a specific threshold while inactive. Other great watchOS 4 features include the proactive Siri watch face that displays the information users need most throughout the day, an enhanced Workout app with new interface, custom High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout type and auto-sets for pool swims. With GymKit, users will soon enjoy the ability to connect to their favorite cardio equipment and experience two-way synchronization of data with just a tap, resulting in the most accurate information possible.3

The redesigned Music app experience automatically syncs playlists like New Music Mix and Favorites Mix, along with the user’s most listened to music. Apple unveils new Apple TV 4K with HDR

Apple the iPhone event of last 12 September, Apple unveiled the new generation Apple TV, Apple TV 4K, which hasn’t seen a refersh since 2015. The new set-top box features 4K output with HDR, Dolby Vision and HDR10, are seeing support from major streaming sites like Netflix and Amazon. The new box is powered by the A10X Fusion Apple chip, the same chip that is in the new iPad Pro. CPU performance improves 2x over the previous generation box. Apple says the new A10X chip enables even more beautiful and expansive gameplay. Many games can even render at 4K. tvOS will add live sports from next month in the TV app, also available in the iPhone and iPad app. Access ESPN, MLB and NBA from within the TV app; the app will present new shows automatically.

Apple has also partnered with big movie studios to provide more content. But it won't charge more - the 4K movies will cost as much as HD video. And if you've already bought a movie in HD, it will be automatically updated to 4K resolution without any bucks. The Apple TV app is also expanding - Australia and Canada will be added later this month, 5 more countries later this year. The app will also run on iPhones and iPads but their collaboration runs deeper - you can control the HomePod from the Apple TV!

The TV 4K will go on pre-order on September 15 and will go on sale on the 22nd. The 32GB model will cost $180, the 64GB is $200. The older model is still available for $150 (with 32GB storage).

Gigabyte releases world's smallest GTX 1080 8GB graphics card

From the dawn of desktop computer era rigger has typically meant better when it comes to graphics cards. But in the last few years products like AMD's R9 Nano or Asus' Nvidia GTX 970 Mini have shown graphics card can be powerful despite their size. So the demand of miniature graphics card has been increasing every day. Earlier in 2017, Zotac showcased two of the world’s smallest GTX 1080 Ti Mini-ITX cards to the world. Now not only Gigabyte joins to the list, but also take the crown of the maker of smallest GTX 1080. The company is no stranger to the Mini-ITX graphics card market, having produced a GTX 1070 Mini ITX as well as a 1060 Mini ITX graphics cards of the same size.

At 169mm in length, Gigabyte’s graphics card is the perfect fit for mini-ITX motherboards, which measure 170mm. The GeForce GTX 1080 Mini ITX 8G offers the same 1607MHz base clock and 1733MHz boost speeds as a GTX 1080 Founders Edition and manages to do so in a package that’s nearly 100mm shorter. The GTX 1080 Mini ITX 8G also packs a 5+2 power phase design, a step up over the 5+1 design in the Founders Edition.

Gigabyte is using a single 90mm fan for cooling, paired with three copper composite heat-pipes. The fan is semi-passive, meaning it will turn off when the GTX 1080 isn’t under a big load. You’ll even be able to overclock this GTX 1080, thanks to Gigabyte’s own software.

There are no details on pricing and release date just yet, but Gigabyte should have some more details in the very near future.

All Nokia phones will receive Android 8.0 Oreo update, HMD confirms

HMD Global has confirmed that all Nokia-branded Android smartphones will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo including Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, and Nokia 8. The news comes from chief product officer Juho Sarvikas. He confirmed the news on Twitter, saying: "All our smartphones will upgrade to Oreo, Nokia 3 included. No comments yet on timing so that I don't get into trouble." As far as the released date is concerned, the Nokia Oreo update would release before the end of this year as Google mentioned HMD Global’s name in the list of their partners pushing out Android 8.0 before 2017 says goodbye.

Of course, the promise of an update alone is easy. The hard part is actually getting it done, and getting it done in a timely manner. A few months ago, HMD Global announced that it’s working closely with Google to ensure that Nokia phones receive fast Android updates. It certainly helps that Nokia’s Android is similar to Google’s Android, a feature the company highlighted back at MWC 2017 when it unveiled three new Android phones.

Xiaomi announces new Android One hanset Mi A1with Stock OS

Launched a few years ago, the Android One initiative represents Google’s effort to provide affordable devices to buyers in developing markets who can’t afford expensive Android handsets. However, the journey of Android One phones is not as good as it's intention sounds. But the scenario might change soon courtesy of Xiaomi's Mi A1. The metal-bodied new flagship phone was announced in New Delhi, India, and will hit 40 countries, including Bangladesh, Russia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Mexico, later this month. Basically, Xiaomi has rebranded its Mi 5X smartphone and put Google’s pure Android experience at the centre of the computing interface that will be used by the end user.

After three years of using MIUI, it's bizarre to see stock Android running on a Xiaomi phone. It's certainly a welcome change, as the addition of stock Android makes the Mi A1 one of the best devices in this segment. You're not going to notice any lags or slowdowns.

Xiaomi didn't cut any corners when it comes to the internal hardware as well. The Mi A1 features a 5.5-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 625, 4GB of RAM, 64GB storage, microSD slot, dual 12MP cameras, 5MP front camera, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.2, LTE with VoLTE, and a 3080mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 comes in Black, Gold or Pink and costs 14,999 rupees ($233). The phone is unmistakably premium, and Xiaomi has done a fantastic job refining its design aesthetic. It is going to be available in 37 countries across the globe and sales are starting on September 12 in various online and offline stores.

Apple terminates 6th gen iPod Nano service and repair

Ahead of Apple 8 announcement, Apple this week has added another product to its obsolete category: the sixth-generation iPod nano. The Cupertino giant announced last week that it will no longer service or repair the device moving forward. as per its own repair and servicing policy that states devices are only supported for 5 years after production ends. Introduced in September 2010, sixth-generation Nano got rid of the latter, the very thing that made the iPod great. In its place, a 1.54-inch square touchscreen that showed off software that was reminiscent of iOS.

According to reports, Apple sent a memo to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers on August 30 to inform that the 6th-generation iPod nano has been added to the vintage and obsolete products list, which means that it no longer receives repairs and servicing at its own stores. This shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise., though Apple regularly adds older products to its “vintage and obsolete” product category and it discontinued the entire iPad nano and iPod shuffle brands earlier this year.

What’s interesting about the sixth-generation iPod nano is it could be viewed as the early version of the tech giant’s very successful Apple Watch smartwatch series. For one thing, third-party straps and accessories were released for the square-shaped device, and they basically turned the iPod nano into something akin to current smartwatch models.

SanDisk partnering with Ninendo to release Switch branded microSD card

Nintendo and SanDisk have announced a new partnership that will result Switch-branded microSDXC cards scheduled to be released on October 2017. The cards themselves won't be unique, aside from their inclusion of the Switch logo, but the partnership could allow SanDisk to become the brand of choice for Switch owners looking for extra storage. Similarly seeing an opportunity to make some cash, Nintendo has decided to license its name for use on these cards from SanDisk.

Two cards will be available. As far as functionality goes, these appear to be the exact same as SanDisk‘s non-Nintendo microSDXC cards. The first bears Link from The Legend of Zelda on its packaging and, more important, boasts a 64GB capacity with up to 100MBps sequential read and 60MBps sequential write speeds. The second features Mario. That card has a 128GB capacity and up to 100MBps sequential read and 90MBps sequential write speeds.

Nintendo didn't reveal pricing information or a firm release date for either card but we can assume these cards to cost at least a little more than their non-Nintendo counterparts.

Nintendo partners with Western Digital to create licensed Nintendo Switch SanDisk Memory Cards

Nintendo and Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ: WDC) have formed a global partnership to create Nintendo-licensed memory cards for use in Nintendo Switch video game systems. The microSDXC cards will be available in capacities of 64 GB and 128 GB, and will feature the Nintendo Switch and SanDisk logos.

And last week Microsoft started finalizing the release with the release of Insider Preview Buil 16275.

This update is big since it includes support for new "mixed reality headsets" that let you step inside of Windows, so long as your computer is powerful enough to support it. The company said that its partners' Windows Mixed Reality headsets will start to roll out on the same day, which should make it feel like Christmas in October for anyone interested in XR. Headsets will be coming from Acer, Dell, Lenovo, and HP with prices starting at $299. These headsets don't need any external tracking boxes; they'll just plug into your PC with an HDMI and USB cable, or in Dell's case, a single USB Type-C cable.

Microsoft had planned some far bigger features for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, but the company ended up delaying most of them to the next update planned early next year. A new Timeline feature has been cut, which will eventually let Windows 10 users switch between multiple devices, including Android and iOS phones. A universal clipboard feature for copying data between phones and PCs has also been delayed. Story Remix's best features were also pulled out of the Fall Creators Update, though Microsoft corporate VP for Photos and Videos Chris Pratley said that they'll be available via the Windows Store. On the gaming front, Microsoft said that the update will improve Game Mode by allowing "your games to use the full processing power of your device as if it was an Xbox game console, right from a new button on the Game bar."

Huawei unwraps Kirin 970 chipset at IFA with advanced AI capabilities

Huawei has announced its next-generation chipset for smartphones today at IFA, the Kirin 970. The company's CEO Richard Yu took the stage in Berlin to announce that Huawei's latest chipset will bet heavily on deep learning and AI to deliver a vastly improved user experience in upcoming mobile devices. Kirin 970 will enable AI on the Mate 10 and future Huawei phones, thanks to the new NPU (Neutral Processing Unit), which Yu says can deliver 25 times the performance with 50 times the power efficiency of a quad-core Cortex-A73 cluster, as found in the previous-gen Kirin 960. The new chipset features an octa-core CPU with 4x2.4GHz Cortex-A73 and 4x1.8GHz Cortex-A53 cores, and a 12-core Mali-G72MP12 GPU. Additionally, the chipset boasts support for 4.5G Cat.18 LTE for download speeds up to 1.2Gbps.

Huawei’s new flagship Kirin 970 is Huawei’s first mobile AI computing platform featuring a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). Compared to a quad-core Cortex-A73 CPU cluster, the Kirin 970's new heterogeneous computing architecture delivers up to 25x the performance with 50x greater efficiency. Simply put, the Kirin 970 can perform the same AI computing tasks faster and with far less power. In a benchmark image recognition test, the Kirin 970 processed 2,000 images per minute, which was faster than other chips on the market.

New developments in AI require joint effort across the entire value chain, involving tens of millions of developers, and the experience and feedback of hundreds of millions of users. Huawei is positioning the Kirin 970 as an open platform for mobile AI, opening up the chipset to developers and partners who can find new and innovative uses for its processing capabilities.

Nikon unveils new D850 DSLR with 45.7 megapixel full frame sensor

Nikon has unveiled its 45.7MP full-frame DSLR camera, named the D850, which is a successor to the popular D810, which was released in 2014. The Nikon D850 has a 45.7MP FX (full frame) BSI CMOS sensor without a low-pass filter, the first backside-illuminated sensor in Nikon's lineup, can capture 7 frames a second stills (8fps with the new MB-D18 grip), has a base ISO of 64 and tops out at ISO 25,600, natively. Full-frame cameras use a sensor that is equivalent to 35mm film (36x24mm) and preserves the full view without the image getting chopped off from the sides, especially with wide-angle lenses. The other formats use smaller sensors.
The D850 shares the EXPEED 5 processor as well as the 153-point focusing system of the Nikon D5, which has 99 cross type sensors (15 of which can focus at f/8).

The camera offers high speed of up to nine frames per second in a continuous shooting mode; ISO from 64 to 25,600; shoots 4K videography; 8K time-lapse photography; slow-motion recording at 120 frames per second and allows RAW batch processing.

The back of the Nikon D850 has a tilting LCD touchscreen which supports Touch AF in Live View. There's also Silent Photography in Live View that can shoot 6 fps at full resolution without the mechanical shutter noise. The battery is the EN-EL15a - a slightly more powerful version of Nikon's popular battery, that promises the immense 1800 shots battery life and 70 hours of video. The Nikon D850 is compatible with the old EN-EL15 battery too.

The Nikon D850 will be available in September at a price of $3,299.95.

The next-generation full-frame digital SLR camera with an optimized combination of high resolution and high-speed performance across multiple genres of photography

TOKYO - Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the release of the D850, a Nikon FX-format digital SLR camera that optimizes the combination of high resolution and high-speed performance to set the standard for next-generation full-frame cameras for professional photographers and serious hobbyists across landscape, commercial sports, fashion and wedding genres, and multimedia content. Development of the D850 was announced on July 25, 2017.

The D850 has an effective pixel count of 45.7 megapixels, and supports the ISO 64-25600 range of standard sensitivities (expansion to Lo 1, ISO 32 equivalent and Hi 2, ISO 102400 equivalent is possible). The camera itself is capable of high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 7 fps*1, but when the optional MB-D18 Multi-Power Battery Pack is used, the rate increases to approximately 9 fps*1,*2. Adoption of the same high-speed, high-precision 153-point AF system used by the D5 gives the D850 greater certainty of capturing moving subjects. It has a new backside illumination Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor and the latest image-processing engine, EXPEED 5.

Movie capabilities have also been enhanced even further for multimedia content creators who wish to shoot both stills and videos. With the D850, Nikon introduces its own full-frame recording of 4K UHD (3840 x 2160)/30p movies, as well as 4x and 5x slow-motion movies*3 in Full HD. This will enable impressive expressions of movement in Full HD. Primary Features

1. An effective pixel count of 45.7 megapixels and a new backside illumination Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor

The D850 is Nikon's first digital SLR camera to be equipped with a backside illumination CMOS sensor. Together with the camera's low-noise performance, this enables it to achieve a maximum standard sensitivity of ISO 25600 (with expansion up to Hi 2, ISO 102400 equivalent) despite its high pixel count, with incident light more effectively guided to the photodiodes. The same minimum standard sensitivity of ISO 64 (with expansion to Lo 1, ISO 32 equivalent) supported by the D810 is also offered by the D850, achieving an incredibly broad range of sensitivities. In addition, no optical low-pass filter means that the D850 is able to make the most of high-resolution NIKKOR lenses to produce extremely sharp and clear images. Images captured with the D850 can be enlarged up to A2 size* for printing, and even used for 8K digital signage displays.

2. High-speed continuous shooting at approximately 7 fps/9 fps captures motion

The D850 is equipped with a backside illumination CMOS sensor capable of high-speed readout of high-volume data, the EXPEED 5 image-processing engine that processes an incredibly large amount of information at high speed, and newly designed shutter and mirror mechanisms. These three features work together to enable high-speed continuous shooting at up to approximately 7 fps*1 with just the camera, and up to approximately 9 fps*1,*2 when the MB-D18 Multi-Power Battery Pack is used. What's more, up to approximately 51 14-bit or 170 12-bit (image size L) RAW images with lossless compression can be captured in a single burst of continuous shooting*3. Further, adoption of the same high-performance 153-point AF system used by the D5 ensures certain capture of intended subjects including those that are moving, in a wide variety of scenes, effectively expanding the practical range of this high-pixel-count camera.

3. Silent photography eliminates the sound of shutter release and mechanical vibrations with capture of 45-MP images

The D850 is equipped with a silent photography feature with which the image sensor performs operations normally performed by the mechanical shutter's front and rear curtains with live view photography, enabling silent capture of full-frame images. The sound of shutter release and mechanical vibrations are completely eliminated, making this an effective choice in situations when the sound of shutter release is distracting or impolite, as at a museum or wedding, or when mechanical vibrations are a concern, such as when photographing starscapes or heavenly bodies.
Note:In M (manual) or A (aperture-priority auto) exposure mode. In P (programmed-auto) or S (shutter-priority auto) exposure mode, the sound of aperture operation can be heard.

4. Nikon's first digital SLR camera to support full-frame 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) movie recording

The D850 supports full-frame, 4K UHD (3840 x 2160)/30p recording, allowing users to record movies that make the most of wide-angle lenses' broad angles of view, as well as the superior resolution at the edges of the frame exhibited by NIKKOR lenses. In addition, 4x and 5x slow-motion movies* can be recorded in Full-HD format (100- or 120-fps readout is recorded at 24p, 25p, or 30p). This enables dramatic expression of a moment's movement in slow motion. Further, the addition of a dedicated movie shooting menu, the ability to choose the format in which movies are recorded from MOV and MP4, and the ability to apply detailed settings for highlight display make the D850 a much more convenient way to record movies for multimedia users.

5. 8K time-lapse video creation that makes the most of interval timer photography

The interval timer shooting function has been significantly enhanced with the D850. The interval timer shooting function is not only capable of recording still images (8256 x 5504) that can be used to create time-lapse movies with a frame size that exceeds that of the 8K format*1, but it also offers a silent photography option that can be enabled to capture a large volume of images without concern for the mechanical shutter wear. When silent interval timer photography and exposure smoothing options are enabled, not only are the variations in exposure between individual shots effectively suppressed, but the camera is also able to meter exposure with significantly less light than the -3 EV*2 that is minimally required. This makes it possible for photographers to use A (aperture-priority auto) exposure mode in situations where it is impossible to use manual exposure to capture a series of images, all of which exhibit optimal exposure, of the sky's transition from sunset to starry night sky or from starry night sky to sunrise, for example. The D850 also meets the requirements of professional time-lapse movie creation, offering fast, in-camera batch processing of a huge number of RAW images.

I am using Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16273 now: Here's what's new in it

As the time of Microsoft's general release of 'Windows 10 Fall Creators Update' is near, Microsoft is now more charged up than ever. They are now releasing Insider Previews quicker and focus is now changed to stabilizations and bug fixes rather than trying out new features. They released Insider Preview Build 16257 for PC back on August 2, now over the course of 3 days they release two new builds for PC to the Insiders. On August 23, Microsoft released Build 16273 for PC toward both Fast ring and Skip Ahead users. Then again on August 26, Microsoft unveiled Insider Preview Build 16275 for PC to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring only. As I only completed my installation of Build 16273 and Build 16275 contains no noticeable changes, So I think it will be alright if I share my observations along with my journey of Build 16273. And honestly speaking i cant find any difference from Build 16257 to this Build 16273. So am just mentioning the quote from Microsoft Blog-

Microsoft claiming Xbox One X is their fastest selling console according to pre-order volume

Microsoft's latest gen gaming console, Xbox One X was up on pre-order on last Sunday with a price tag of $499.99. It was initially unveiled in June, and the company is already announcing the 4K-capable Xbox One X is the fastest selling Xbox pre-order in the history of the brand. As a consequence, the console is unfortunately sold out in many countries around the world at the moment. The console will become available on November 7. Meanwhile, Microsoft stops selling Xbox One in the US.
