Mina: Spiral Waltz

2007-05-05T16:26:00.000-07:00

Here is the English version of the fantastic song ("La spirale") of the curious Italian Sci-Fi movie from 1965, "La decima vittima" ("The tenth victim") (with Marcello Mastroianni and the divine Ursula Andress), performed by Italia's greatest singer Mina.
Enjoy this vocal and visual firework!

Laura Matisse: To Your Heart

2007-05-05T16:22:00.000-07:00

Here is a song from a famous commercial, delivered by the little known singer Laura Matisse in a very Basseyish style. To illustrate the song, I chose a clip with the glamourous Joy Lansing (another good singer) in order to embody a faceless (but not voiceless!) singer! Enjoy!

Shirley Hammer: Sweet Revelation

2007-05-05T16:17:00.000-07:00

Here is the title song from the Italian film "Angeli bianchi... angeli neri" (1969) sung by the little known but exciting singer Shirley Hammer whose style recalls a mix of Barbra Streisand and Shirley Bassey. As it is a film on witchcraft, we have chosen to illustrate the song with extracts of a famous clip (also of 1969) by Kenneth Anger on the same theme. Enjoy Shirley Hammer's voice!

Norma Gladys: Sexy World

2007-05-05T16:13:00.000-07:00

Here is an exciting song from the Italian film of 1962, "Mondi caldi di notte", performed by Norma Gladys, who was Miss World in 1960. Not only blessed with beauty (she was the best payed model in the world), she has also a big and sensual voice! Enjoy!

Maureen Arthur: A Man Called Dagger

2007-05-05T16:09:00.000-07:00

Here is a funny faux-007 theme song crooned by Maureen Arthur and written by the famous songwriter Steve Allen for the movie of the same name (1967) in which Maureen Arthur has a part.
Born in 1934 in San Jose, California, Maureen Arthur graduated from University City (MO) High School in 1952, where she was an honor student, athlete, and singer. She played in numerous films and TV series. This zaftig blonde comic actress gained a degree of fame on TV in the early 1960's for her dead-on impersonation of Marilyn Monroe. She was seen in this characterization on variety programs, talk shows and TV commercials until the real Monroe's death in 1962. Thereafter, Maureen played dumb-broad characters, notably as the "kept" secretary Hedy LaRue in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" (1967) (she sang the theme of this movie). In the early 1980's, Maureen Arthur was a semi-regular on TV's "Mork and Mindy", playing a flirtatious middle-aged grade-school student.
Listen to this Bassey-ish song and enjoy!
