Salt Lake City Utah Newborn Photographer | Emmerson

2017-03-04T11:51:00.002-08:00

I met sweet Emmerson when her mom contacted me to see if I could squeeze them in for a newborn session. Their original photographer was out of town when Emmerson was born and her mom knew just how important it was to capture her little details before she got too big!

While I encourage my clients to book 2-3 months in advance, I am happy to accommodate any newborn and their family if I can! And I'm so so so happy I had availability for Emmerson and her family <3 br="" nbsp="">

Skylinn | Lehi Utah Newborn Photographer

2017-01-09T11:00:00.000-08:00

Skylinn was the 3rd baby girl welcomed into this family! Mom and dad are going to have their hands full with Addilynn, Aspen, and Skylinn. I've only met them for a few hours but that was just enough time for me to see each of their personalities shine through in their photos. I can tell you that each one of them will do great things!

When Skylinn's mom scheduled her newborn portrait session, I knew just how much these photos meant to her. We designed a beautiful leather covered heirloom album as well as some focal point canvases. I know Skylinn and her family will enjoy these portraits for years to come!

Frazer | Bountiful Utah Baby Photography

2017-01-02T23:25:00.003-08:00

Chubby cheeks inviting you to pinch them. Big round eyes full of curiosity. Smiles that melt you from the inside out. These are just a few of my favorite things and I found them all in baby Frazer!

Breastfeeding is such an intimate bond between mom and baby, and it was a beautiful experience to witness that bond between Olyvia and Frazer. During our session, Frazer was a little more interested in hamming it up for the camera than she was nursing. We got some great candid shots of her and her mom that I'm sure they will both cherish in the years to come ♥

Salt Lake City Twin Newborn Portraits | Anna & Claire

2016-07-19T09:00:00.000-07:00

I was beyond excited to meet Anna & Claire for their newborn session! Holding one 4 pound baby is incredible in itself, but to be able to hold two?! Gah! They were just so tiny! Not to mention how adorable they both were!

Fun fact: Anna & Claire are IDENTICAL twins! Though their looks varied a little at their newborn session, it was still a challenge to tell them apart! Luckily my assistant and I had a system in place so we would always know which one was which. We started with Anna by herself and then added Claire for some portraits of them together. Then we would take some photos of Claire by herself. Not only did this help us keep track of who was who, it really helped with the flow of the session and allowed us to get all we needed in the allotted time we had.

Everyone at the session was so helpful to get the girls settled and happy in between portraits, as well as keeping mom relaxed! Especially big brother Austin. Can you tell that he is smitten with his new sisters? Congratulations Buresh + Rutledge family! Looks like you've got your hands (and hearts) full!

Utah Newborn Portraits | When to Book Your Session

2016-07-10T19:04:00.001-07:00

I think the question I get asked the most is "When is the best time to book my session?"

What a GREAT question!! Not a lot of people know when to book their maternity or newborn portrait session, and often times when they do, it's too late!

I would hate for anyone to miss out on capturing such a special time in your life. I mean, let's face it, this is probably the biggest thing that's happened to you since your wedding day, right?! So why not plan carefully for your next big event?

For your maternity session it is best to book your session between 30-34 weeks. This is usually the sweet spot for expecting moms. Your belly is nice, big, and round while you are still somewhat able to get around comfortably. Also, as most of you know, the birth of your baby can be so unpredictable! He/she may decide to come at 36 weeks or sooner! You don't want to miss out on maternity photos because little bub decided to make a grand early entrance!

The best time to contact your photographer is around 20 weeks. This is usually around the time parents find out if their little sweet potato is a boy or a girl! You can share this information with your photographer and plan something extra special for your maternity session. Contacting your photographer this early also allows them time to make room for you on their schedule. There is always the possibility your photographer may get you in later on, but it breaks my heart to have to turn away clients when they need their session done within a week or two.

Newborn sessions are my absolute favorite! I just love that 'new baby' smell! ;)

Newborns are best photographed under 2 weeks old if you're after those sweet sleepy posed images. The window can be rather small when booking your newborn session if complications arise. For example, if you are breastfeeding, it is best to wait until mom's milk comes in fully (usually around day 4 or 5) as to avoid a cranky hungry baby during a session. If you have a little man that has just had surgery, you want to wait until he heals completely OR schedule his procedure when after pictures take place.

"But Amber, I've seen some babies posted on your blog that were a month old! Do you still photograph newborns when they are older than 2 weeks?" Yes! Yes I do! In fact, I haven't had a 4 week old yet that wasn't just an angel during his/her session! (knock on wood). Newborns go through a little 'growth spurt' around 3 weeks old and are quite alert. But once they reach 4-5 weeks, they are somewhat in a routine and sleep a little better allowing for some sweet baby pictures. While I don't recommend waiting until your baby is older, I can say that all hope is not lost and we can still capture some adorable photos of your little one.

The best time to contact your photographer for your newborn portrait session is BEFORE your due date!! Don't wait until your baby is born to schedule his/her session. Most photographers, including myself, block off a window of time based on your due date to insure availability for your session, but we can't do this if your baby is already born!

Below are some tips for planning your maternity or newborn portrait session!

1. Write it down! Once you see that extra pink line, your brain immediately goes into panic/planning mode. How am I going to tell my husband? How should we tell our parents? When do we find out the gender? Where will the nursery go? What if its twins? How late is Dairy Queen open?

It's soooo easy for your brain to work into overdrive and that is when you start to forget things. They call it pregnancy brain and it gets the best of us. As soon as you think of something, write it down! Just like your wedding day, you need to sit down, write it out and start planning!

2. Do your research and ask questions! Find that right photographer for you and your baby. Above all, you want someone who is going to take care of your baby and his/her safety foremost. You also want someone that makes you comfortable and feel easy around. I've had parents so relaxed at their newborn session, they even took a nap!

During your research, you also want to make sure the photographer has a style you like. Make notes of what you like about the pictures on their site! (trust me, we photographers LOVE to hear you raving about our work). Ask them lots of questions and get to know them a little bit! Build a relationship and you will LOVE your experience hiring a professional even more!

3. Once you find your photographer, save up!! I will advise you to not pick your photographer based on price and price alone. Yes, there are photographers to fit all shapes and sizes of budgets, but like I said before, you want to pick your photographer based on their ability to take care of you and your baby. All great photographers come at a nice price tag and it's ok to save up! You are making a pretty big investment: your baby's first professional portraits. He/she will have these photos growing up to share with their children, and their children's children. Invest wisely ;)

4. Consult with your photographer! These photos will be with you forever and will be passed down through many generations. Make sure these photos will reflect who you are and the things you like. Just like your wedding photos, you want them to be classy and not too trendy (hello 80's??). Don't like a prop your photographer picked out? Tell them! Feel uncomfortable showing your bare belly? Tell them! LOVE bright red and want to use it a lot in your session? Tell them!

As photographers we are here to serve YOU, our client. We want you to have an amazing experience that you will cherish for years. We aren't mind readers and we can't change anything after the session has taken place. Consult with your photographer beforehand and you will get the session you've always wanted!

5. Book your session and then sit back and relax because you are ahead of the game, baby! You've made a list of what needs to be done, finished your research, found a photographer you love, and planned your session to your wants and needs! Now all that's left is to book your photographer and pay the deposit. That's it! All done! Oh, well with the exception of welcoming your new baby into the world ♥

Adrian | Davis County Utah Newborn Photographer

2016-05-24T20:41:00.002-07:00

Adrian arrived for his newborn session ready to party! And by party, I mean he was wide awake. It took some coaxing to finally get him to sleep, but even while awake, he was so relaxed! And seriously, can we all take a moment to ooh and ahh over his little toes together?! Gah!

I truly loved working with baby Adrian, his mom, and his grandma. He may not be the first or only grandson, but he sure is spoiled! Be sure to check out Adrian's announcement video below for more pictures from his session ♥

Owen Family | Utah Family Portrait Photographer

2016-05-24T18:24:00.001-07:00

It's been quite awhile since I last updated the blog! So long in fact, I haven't posted all of my family sessions from last Fall!

Chris & Natalie adopted Naomi when she was 6 months old and I have been photographing them since then. They are such great parents and Naomi is just a darling little girl. Her personality is so fun and contagious! I loved every second of their session ♥

Park City Utah Newborn Photographer | Rainbow Baby | Charles

2016-01-21T14:00:00.002-08:00

Charles and his family will always hold a special place in my heart. Not a lot of people really know what a rainbow baby is, but I think this quote perfectly sums it up:

"A 'rainbow baby' is a baby that is born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better. The rainbow is more appreciated having just experienced the storm in comparison."

I loved the opportunity that I had to meet Charles and his amazing mom and dad. They are the kindest, strongest, and most loving parents. Congratulations on welcoming Charles into the world, I know Callaway sent him just for you. ♥

2016-01-21T13:11:00.000-08:00

This family was a referral from one of my awesome clients (isn't it funny how awesome people refer awesome people?)! The boys were SO fun and made me laugh until my stomach hurt! It seems they each have 2 best friends to grow up with ♥

The day of our session, it started to rain. And not just little sprinkles, we're talking like break out the umbrellas and galoshes kind of rain. So from start to finish, our session took about 20 minutes, but in that short amount of time, we captured some amazing memories!!

Salt Lake Utah Newborn Photographer | 2015 Year in Review

2015-12-31T18:09:00.001-08:00

It has been an amazing year and it's gone by too fast! I still have yet to blog a few sessions, but I wanted to share this video with you all!

I hope 2016 is just as good to me as 2015!

Happy New Year!

Utah County Newborn Photographer | Rio

2015-12-01T20:57:00.003-08:00

One of the many reasons I love photographing newborns is all the snuggles I get during a session. Such was the case during Rio's newborn session! He was one tough cookie (I almost had my baby whisperer card revoked!) when after about an hour, he drifted off into dreamland.

During his reveal session I got to snuggle him again and he had gotten SO big in just a few short weeks! Thank you so much to Rio's mommy and daddy for bringing Rio to see me ♥

p.s. Can you guess which photos were their favorites?

Salt Lake City Family Photographer | Eva

2015-11-22T17:18:00.000-08:00

I got to meet Eva for the first time at her 6 month session and then again at her 1 year session. This last month, I photographed her again for her TWO year session! How in the world does time fly so fast?

This year for her portrait session, we planned for an outdoor shoot and went with Manning Orchards in Kaysville! We've been lucky to have some warmer days in the dead of fall (can you say 60 degrees!) and we HAD to put some cute summer/fall outfits on her! My next blog post, I'll be sharing a sneak peek of my new studio wardrobe that will be available to all my baby planner clients! ♥

Salt Lake City Utah Baby Photographer | Isabelle

2015-11-11T20:14:00.000-08:00

I don't think I took one bad picture of Isabelle. In fact, I'm pretty sure that would be impossible!! She has the most contagious smile and silliest faces! What started out as a mini session turned into a full blown play date!

Isabelle brought her entourage including 2 grandmas and her gorgeous mommy! We had a TON of fun dressing her up in my studio outfits and I think she loved it too! Thanks for such a fun afternoon Izzy and Alexa! ♥

Park City Utah Newborn Photographer | Emma

2015-11-06T17:50:00.002-08:00

I love when I get to see past clients again and see how much they have changed. I photographed Emma's big sis, Mia, last year! Mia has grown SO much! She is still pretty little and didn't have much interest in her new baby sister, but I'm pretty sure that will change as the two get older and become best of friends!

Just like her big sister was, Emma was pretty wide eyed for a good portion of her newborn session! It's so cute how much they look alike, yet each take after one of their parents (I totally think Emma looks more like her mom) ;)

Thanks again Andrea and Ricardo for driving all the way down from Park City to see me!

2015-11-03T09:01:00.003-08:00

Jake and Lexi were married in Ogden on May 15th and I was so honored to be a part of their big day! I met Lexi when I photographed their second son as a newborn. Lexi is a great friend and all around amazing mother! I couldn't be happier for you two!

Park City Utah Maternity Photographer | Andrea

2015-10-03T15:08:00.005-07:00

I had the pleasure of photographing Andrea's first born daughter, Mia! We were originally scheduled to do a maternity session, however life happens and I needed to reschedule. With her being so close to her due date, I offered them a newborn session instead (you can see those photos here!) and the amazing Dustin Izatt stepped in and saved the day for her maternity photos!

This time around, I was absolutely thrilled to be taking her maternity portraits with baby girl #2! She is absolutely stunning and carries babies SO well! We had a ton of fun playing 'dress up' with the fabrics, the headbands and floral crowns, etc. Even Mia (now 1 years old) got to join in on the fun too! Your family is beautiful Andrea! Keep watch for photos from baby Emma's newborn session! ♥

Mini Maternity Sessions

2015-09-15T13:19:00.001-07:00

I love photographing expecting moms! There is nothing more beautiful than a woman experiencing the miracle of life. I want to celebrate that woman with these mini maternity sessions. If you are expecting, then it is time for us to pamper you! I am teaming up with an amazing makeup and hair artist who will have her own assistant to make you feel beautiful in your own skin. Wardrobe (think flowy fabrics, beautiful gowns, lace details) will be provided as well. It's going to be SO much fun!

I do have limited space for these sessions and unfortunately I can't schedule everyone. The sessions will be limited to 5 women and will go quickly! To schedule your question, or if you have any questions, please contact me at:

Salt Lake Utah Maternity Photography | Becky

2015-09-06T23:23:00.002-07:00

Becky is just as stunning as they come. She was expecting her second baby, this time a girl! You could just see in her eyes just how excited she was. And she just radiated beauty! It wasn't hard at all to just feed off that energy and I think it shows in her images.

Thank you so much Becky for allowing me to take part in such an amazing moment in your life! ♥

Utah Baby Portrait Photographer | Linkyn

2015-09-01T23:26:00.001-07:00

My second shoot using my new studio lights was with the young and handsome Linkyn! He brought his A-game to his session with those big blue eyes and adorable expressions. He was genuinely intrigued with the big black box (my camera) in front of him and his eyes just got bigger the closer it got!

This stage is one of my favorites to photograph and Linkyn sure reminded me of why. I hope you all enjoy these images as much as I did taking them ♥

Salt Lake City Infant Photographer | Carter

2015-08-20T19:34:00.000-07:00

As you may have noticed over on my facebook page, I have made the switch to studio lights!!! I couldn't be happier to have such beautiful, consistent, creamy light! Don't get me wrong, I have loved all my natural light sessions but I can't count how many sessions I've had to reschedule or push back due to a cloudy day. It just really throws everyone's schedule off!

Carter was my first subject in front of my new light and he was oh so scrumptious! (Seriously, I could just nibble on those thighs! He wasn't too fond of the big fur rugs I placed him on and mom told me he did NOT like grass at all. We put him up on my little white chair and he was as happy as a clam! Silly boy ♥

Northern Utah Baby Photographer | Rylee

2015-08-16T17:33:00.001-07:00

I've been LOVING studio sessions lately! Up here in Northern Utah, there are SO many beautiful outdoor locations including Snow Basin, Downtown Ogden, Antelope Island, etc., but something just keeps pulling me back to indoor studio shoots for these little ones! It's also so much fun to play dress up with them! I have a variety of clothing for my clients to choose from in sizes ranging from newborn to 6 years old! Plus all the accessories a girl could ask for ;)

Rylee came in for her ONE year session and she looked oh so beautiful in this lavender romper and bonnet set! And the blue pants with matching headband? Yeah, totally her color. But nothing compares to those adorable little teeth and her 'light up a room' smile ♥ Rylee, you are a doll!! Can't wait for your next session!
