ZeniMax to Allow Mojang Use of “SCROLLS” Mark on Digital Card Game

March 12, 2012 (Rockville, MD) – ZeniMax® Media Inc. today announced that a settlement has been reached in the lawsuit it filed over Mojang’s applications for ownership of the ‘Scrolls’ trademark. The lawsuit was filed by ZeniMax when Mojang submitted applications covering a range of ‘Scrolls’ trademarks for use in video games and other media. In its complaint, ZeniMax cited a conflict with its longstanding trademark for ‘The Elder Scrolls’, the name of its highly-successful video game franchise published by ZeniMax Media’s publishing arm, Bethesda® Softworks.

Under the terms of the settlement, all ownership rights to the ‘Scrolls’ trademark will transfer to ZeniMax, and Mojang will assign to ZeniMax ownership of any pending “Scrolls’ trademark applications. ZeniMax has licensed the ‘Scrolls’ mark to Mojang to be used solely in conjunction with its existing Scrolls digital card game and any add-on material it makes to that game. The terms of the settlement bar Mojang from using the Scrolls mark for any sequel to the current card game, or any other video game.

"We are pleased to have settled this matter with Mojang amicably,” said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax. “The Elder Scrolls is an important brand to us, and with this settlement we were able to protect our valuable property rights while allowing Mojang to release their digital card game under the name they preferred.”

Nightmare House 2 review

(Note from the writer: Hello everyone, I would just like to take this moment to apologize, as I have been too busy studying/working in college to write this review sooner. I beaten the game for my “let’s play” on “YouTube” maybe 1-3 months’ ago, so I may mess up a detail or two. But I can safely say this game has left a strong impression/impact on me much like that of “Amnesia: The dark descent” which is something not easily forgotten.)

First off, I want to congratulate the creators (ww.NH2.wecreatestuff.com) of this magnificent piece of horror inducing sexual, orgasmic bliss (kinky); because “Nightmare House 2“is a first person horror inducing fps that runs off the source engine, and is actually a “mod” for the popular video game “Half-Life 2: episode 2” created and published by “Valve”. Now that we got introductions out of the way, let’s begin the actual review!

The game starts off with you reliving the first few minutes of nightmare house 1 (breaking into the house, killing monsters, and other good stuff like that.) and after utterly crapping yourself from the surprise jump scares (honestly I couldn’t see them coming!) your character will then be knocked out and find himself waking up in a hospital asylum room. And that is where our story REALLY begins (oh joy the lovely memories!).

After awaking to a very bright vision distorting light, in a very small padded cell with one entrance. After you exit through the door you find yourself in a creepy, abandoned, and broken down hospital whose only occupant seems to be a non-existent female voice that runs the hospital. After exploring for a bit you encounter your first zombie that you inevitably hack to bits with a rusty axe you just happen to find. After further exploration a radio goes off to an unidentified male voice that soon identifies himself as “Dr. Romero”, (get it? Zombie Romero? I just now realized it was a tribute to the master of zombies), who explains to you the place has been over run with zombies and that you must meet up with him if you are to survive the night. Oh and did I forget to mention the Alma-lookalike twin from fear? Yeah there’s that too.

The control scheme is basic and works just like the controls for most FPS games (haven’t played Half-Life 2 yet so I cannot comment on their control scheme). You have your standard W, A, S, D, keys for movement, and your mouse for aiming and controlling where your character looks. And too my knowledge the control scheme SHOULD be the same as it is for “Half-Life 2: episode 2”, especially since it is mod, and runs off the same engine.

The voice acting for “Nightmare House 2” is exceptionally great in my opinion. The voice actors are not annoying or repetitive to listen to and I actually ENJOY looking forward to my next encounter with an NPC (non-player controlled).

One of the things I really must point out is “Nightmare House 2” doesn’t give you crap loads of ammo that you will barely use, like in most FPS horror shooters. I noticed in games like “Fear 2” you often have so much ammo that you will barely have to change guns, or worry about feeling nervous about being in a haunted school building with very limited ammo. The enemies in “Nightmare House 2”however, actually can take quite a beating and will take quite a few bullets before dying. Which in turn adds to the feeling that they are actually real horrific zombies (the molesting kind).

Overall I find “Nightmare House 2” to be a real horrific tear jerking game, and is just as scary as “Amnesia: the dark descent”, (In my own humble opinion of course). NightmareStudioz gives “Nightmare House 2” a final score of 10 out of 10, citing “ Nightmare House 2 is what most horror games should be.”

New in-game features arriving daily in the hit browser-based RPG

LAND O’LAKES, FLORIDA – March 11, 2011 - Artix Entertainment, the indie game development studio that runs the free web-based RPGDragonFable, invites its 33 million players to celebrate a week-long event where the head coder implements a new feature each day. Lucky Week begins Monday, March 14^th, starting with a new war mechanic and ending with user-created content.

On Monday, DragonFable will introduce a new type of war functionality. In previous wars, players would band together to defeat waves of monsters in order to raise a war meter. With the arrival of the new feature, players will check in at the war camp, receive a token that flags participation, and return players to the game where they can continue regular quests. Each quest will drop an extra item related to the war’s main objective, giving players more incentive (and more loot) to continue their heated battles.

In addition, players’ participation will be tracked on his or her character page. The character pages for upgraded players will track their participation in any war from this point on while everyone else will have their data tracked for the last war they have been a part of.

The overhaul and restructure of a very popular house item arrives Tuesday. The Armor Closet allows players to change between and default-set any item that they have access to. This house item will be getting a new, easier to use interface which will also be easier for DragonFable’s developers to update and maintain.
Wednesday will introduce unlimited bank storage for any item purchased with secondary currency. In a game where players want to collect as much of the content as possible, this will be a much appreciated—and needed—update.

Gamers love to brag about the in-game achievements they receive, but how can one properly boast when no one else can see them? Showing achievements on character pages is something players have requested for years, and come Thursday, their wishes will be answered.

DragonFable fans will receive a pleasant surprise come Friday: a playable preview of user-created content. Players will have the opportunity to build their own quests and cutscenes using the game’s art assets and resources. If they are upgraded users, players can share their quests with friends using the character ID system.

- Giant lizards deliver copies of new videogame to retailers -

Shoppers across the UK's high streets were shocked this week to see a procession of giant lizards delivering copies of a new videogame to retailers prior to its release.

The nine-foot long 'dragons' took copies of Dragon Age 2, released on Friday 11th March, to stores in medieval-style carts to ensure the safe delivery of the first batch of new games.

Dragon handler and expert Trevor Smith commented: "At nine-foot long and weighing around seven stones each, these giant reptiles were trained very carefully to ensure they could safely deliver the games to stores in time for its release this week.

"I think it definitely surprised a few passers-by to suddenly see such an unusual creature stalking the streets!"

Sophie Orlando from Dragon Age 2 publishers Electronic Arts added: "Dragon Age 2 is set to be a big release for this year and we wanted to ensure that the games reached their destination in a unique fashion - and what better way of protecting this game than by the nearest living animal to the fire-breathing dragons featured in the title."

Trevor Smith and his handlers at Animals Work have had over 20 years experience with water monitor lizards and have supplied the animals to the film and TV industry.

Special Events and Competitions To Run Across All Titles

Dublin, Ireland – March 10^th, 2011 – Gala Networks Europe, one of the leading free-to-play games publisher that operates the www.gPotato.eu portal, has announced details of in-game and community events that are running throughout March 2011 for all of its MMOG titles.

Allods Online is set to launch three new events, including a second epic PvP tournament. Starting on the 14^th March, the IGP tournament (I G ot the Power, or I nstanced G uild P vP) will allow guilds to battle it out in a series of clashes, leading up to a grand final on the 3^rd of June, to determine which guild has the best fighters in the Allods universe. Also running towards the end of March are two more events; the Silent Hill Rookies Invasion and theAstral Assault PvP Event II. The Silent Hill Rookies Invasion will run over the week of the 21^st of March, giving mid-level players a chance to fight for their chosen side in a faction vs faction battle. The Astral Assault PvP Event II is the second in the series of special Astral space ship confrontations, where Imperial ships will stage a daring attack against the League Fleet and its formidable battlecruiser at the door of Novograd.

Dragonica is running four events this month. The first is a unique user-generated-content competition for the game’s loading screen tutorials, starting on the 8^th of March and running indefinitely. Players are tasked with creating tutorial screens using their characters and the in-game screenshot facility, with the chance to become the official loading screens for all Dragonica players. On the 16^th March, players have the chance to win a Jack’s Bean potion or gold in the Where Is Paddy challenge, where they must chase down a GM disguised as a Leprechaun. A month-long event happens the day after, starting on the 18^th March and ending on the 18^th April, asPimp My Class comes to Dragonica. To win, players need to create a short video introducing their chosen character class and why they feel that class is the best. Rounding off Dragonica’s March events is a reprise of the February competition for the best couple. Called Miss and Mister Spring Dragotaka, this event runs from the 19^th to the 25^th March and is for players wishing to show off their best costumes. Once the entry period is over, Dragonica’s GMs will pick the two best-dressed players and they’ll be rewarded accordingly.

Adventurers in Flyff have two events to look forward to. For St Patrick’s Day on the 17^th March, each character per account will receive a free Irish hat. Between the 10^th and 24^th March, all characters above level 15 will have the chance to win unique items and extra XP in the White Day event. A series of non-repeatable quests, involving talking to and fetching items for Angel and Devil NPCs, will grant a variety of awards. These include several XP bonuses, a unique piece of head gear and a variety of masks.

Rappelz has an exciting roster of March events, grouped by region. French players have a bonus XP and increased drops event running between the 1^st and 15^th March to celebrate the holidays. For other servers including Germany, Turkey and Poland, there’s a similar XP and enhanced drops event starting on the 22^nd March and ending on the 29^th. Italian players have their first anniversary to look forward to in the same period, the celebrations for which include the XP and drop bonuses, along with a special Lak event and a Rain drop event to celebrate Rappelz’s first year in Italy.

Canaan Online also has four events for March. A double XP bonus is running for all players until the 7^th March ahead of the arrival of ‘Hero’s Rebirth’ on the 9^th. A spring-themed Fan-Art contest starts on the 7^th and runs until the 20^th March, giving players the opportunity to win the cute Baby Cow pet and two exclusive clothing items in the form of a Fat Duck costume and an April Showers raincoat, neither of which have been seen in Canaan Online so far. A two-day special running from the 18^th to the 20^th March will see rare and powerful pets seeded in high-level zones, which will be followed by Monster Mania, which involves the invasion of high-level monsters into the Karugarner, Kazan and Goradora zones, offering plentiful amounts of great treasure and lots of XP between the 25^th and 28^th of March. Alongside the official events, GMs will be giving away rare and exciting pets and adorable costume items in spot competitions.

Mechanisms of mayhem in Metal Assault:

Multiplayer Vehicles – Launch an aerial assault in the Tomahawk743, or plow over enemies in the HMK-29 tank. Both vehicles seat up to 4 players.
One Player Vehicles – Jump into the Guardian175 cannon to blast away opponents, or don the D-TX23 combat suit for maximum single player destruction.
Personal Arsenal – Stock up your inventory with grenade launchers, tank mines and other in-game explosive devices.

The Endless Court

The origins of the Endless Court

Six are the Dragon Cults, one for each of the Blood Storm, yet the most powerful and nihilistic of these cabals is the Endless Court. From the purest child to the vilest deviant, revulsion is the understandable reaction when one’s entire world is threatened with destruction. Yet some wretches fall outside understanding, people so twisted and perverse that annihilation seems a blessing. And from among their number come the cultists of the Endless Court. Offered a place in Regulos’s midnight realm, they trade flesh and breath for the hollow promise of power over the dead.
The Endless Court began as a conspiracy between two powerful figures during the time of the Blood Storm: the dark mage Alekor Devishnille and the warlord Mahr Rilthain. They say Mahr sacrificed his own children to prove his loyalty to Regulos and sever his attachment to life. Meanwhile, Alekor slaughtered whole villages to gather the components for his cruel rituals. These two were the first to wear the black robes of Regulos, rallying others to work toward Telara’s end, and their traditions were passed down through the generations. Even after the Destroyer was banished, his followers never ceased to haunt Telara.
They have moved as shadows in the courts of history’s great civilizations, always waiting for the chance to please their patron. Now and then their covens have been rooted out, leaving knights, duchesses, and great scholars all dancing side by side on a gibbet, yet somehow their order always re-emerges in time.

Endless designs

Since the Ward broke, the Endless have been stepping up their activities throughout Telara. Those cells that had hidden away for centuries no longer fear detection, as the great armies of Telara have all but crumbled. Worse, they are finding many new converts, as the threat of extinction left many mortals hopeless and drawn to a reward after death – a place in Regulos’s Endless Court.
Everywhere the Endless go, corruption spreads, and the Endless go everywhere. Hungry for sourcestone, their rotting hordes have taken over Deepstrike Mine. Meanwhile in Scarlet Gorge, their cultists murder the innocent to serve as an undead workforce. Hungry for power, they are using Caer Mathos—heart of the noble Mathosian Empire—as the center of their ritual to call Regulos back to Telara. Hungry for control, they have turned once-glorious Port Scion into a hive of corpses, ready to spill out and cover Telara. Hungry, hungry, never satisfied, the Endless Court seeks to be like their dragon, a great glutton that devours the world.
Behind every one of their sins is Alsbeth the Discordant, greatest servant of the Destroyer since King Aedraxis fell. If she is not stopped, she may even find a way to return Aedraxis to his disloyal kingdom. For what power has Regulos if not unlimited access to the wicked dead?

Love to hate

Regulos offers his minions eternal existence as masters of the undead. It remains to be seen whether he will keep his word or simply devour his followers once all opposition has been removed, but of all the Blood Storm, Regulos is the most honest about what he expects. Members of the Endless Court must embrace death – not the natural cycle of decay and rebirth, but the void of nihilistic hunger. There is no room in the Destroyer’s service for attachment to the mortal coil, or for love. How perfect that his slaves sever their attachments by sacrificing the one they love the most?
Initiates of the Endless Court must allow the cult to capture their dearest companion. During the rite of initiation, necromantic artifacts corrupt the supplicant’s soul and open their heart to oblivion by closing it everything else. As the ritual approaches climax, the initiate renounces their love for the victim and finally murders the poor soul on an altar to Regulos. Only when love and hope and joy bleed out on the black stone is the Devourer convinced the initiate is fool enough to stuff the whole world down a dragon’s gaping gullet, and jump in after.

Game People Launch Videogame Novel Reviews (3/7/2011)

Game People have been reviewing games differently for three years, but their latest influx of creatives push the boundaries a little further. They have just announced the official launch of their Videogame Review Novels.

Chris Jarvis heads up the new column and writes a short story for each videogame he reviews. These are then recorded by voice actors and published every other Monday on the site:

This joins Rebecca Mayes’ videogame song reviews and Adam Moran’s videogame standup comedy to create a trio of unusual ways to rate videogames. Jarvis expanded on what attracted him to the project:

"I write stories to say what I think about games, for me it's the best way to express my reaction. Do you ever have a response to something that's hard to put into words? For a long time stories have helped people to understand intangible ideas. I find that a piece of fiction can give an insight into a game that a regular review can't do in the same way."
It is an approach that not only aims to entertain but also to communicate the unusual nature of a videogame experience: “Often when we criticise games, films or stories we focus on technical areas: control, visuals, atmosphere, pacing and characters. I find that my personal responses aren't always defined by the sum of a games parts and I don't believe yours are, either.”
