WHAT IS THE BEST INTERNET PROVIDER FOR ME?

REMEMBER THIS? Well, I've posted the comparison last May 11, 2010. Back when I was checking for an internet connection.I ended up getting SKY BROADBAND. Which I didn't have a problem with. I was paying P 999 / month at 1.5 speed. I live in Manila and I was pretty happy with how their service was.

Now that we are moving, here I am trying again to check which would best fit my needs and can keep up with my high internet demands. :)

Check out the comparison I made back then in May 11, 2010.

I know, it is not much of a comparison. I also know that their service has improved already in terms of speed capacity and prices. Let's see then... :)

I am not keen on getting a PLDT DSL. No thanks. I might use SKY BROADBAND again, I am pretty much happy with their service. I am open into getting a Wireless thingy connection. I am just not sure what would be the pros and cons in comparing BROADBAND to WIRELESS.

So if you think you know what you're talking about and know what I mean. Do enlighten me and others who are in the frenzy of choosing their internet service provider.

I am choosing an internet service provider for my home. Basically making my new home a WIFI hotspot. :)

So there you go, to question on why it is 40.70 on the site and cheaper over the counter i wouldn't know why. Considering that is is fresher over the counter and would probably melt while delivering, you would have to pay P2.40 extra. :) maybe its a service fee. :) Anyways....

KNORR takes lead in offering better rice to Filipinos

Rice has always been central to the Filipino diet, especially now when more Filipinos depend on rice to ease hunger. According to Dr. Imelda Agdeppa of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), Filipinos gauge their food security based on their capacity to buy and serve rice to their families.

Due to budget constraints, however, majority of the population settle for low grade rice. Rice of this quality is typically identified by its inconsistent texture, color and taste.

But today, a revolutionary product from Unilever aspires to help improve the rice that Filipinos eat. Rice cooked with Knorr Rice Mate has been proven in consumer tests to be softer, to look whiter and to have the aroma of freshly harvested rice. Boosting nutrition through rice fortification

Based on research conducted by FNRI, the average Filipino diet is deficient in various nutrients including Vitamin A, iron, calcium, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and ascorbic acid. Low dietary intake of essential vitamins and minerals in the body leads to micronutrient deficiency and in severe cases, malnutrition.

In 2000, the Food Fortification Law of the Philippines was enacted, covering the mandatory fortification of rice and other staples like flour, oil and sugar with vitamin A and iron.

“Food fortification is the addition of nutrients to commonly consumed foods either to replace the lost nutrients during processing or to enhance the amount of nutrients contained in the food,” explained Agdeppa.

FNRI already launched its iron-fortified rice technology, which has proven to be helpful in preventing anemia, a condition characterized by a lack of iron in the body. “Significant reductions in anemia were observed in both the pilot and large-scale studies among schoolchildren,” said Agdeppa.

Because rice is a staple food among Filipinos, improving the quality of low grade rice is strategic in helping to improve the nutritional status of Filipinos, hence , Knorr Rice Mate’s added micro-nutrients for rice.

The first product of its kind, Knorr Rice Mate also fortifies has vitamin A and iodine, which are nutritional needs that must be met on a daily basis. Vitamin A increases the immune response to prevent infection and helps maintain good vision, while Iodine helps in the development of the brain and central nervous system.

CONTROVERSIAL THRILLER “ANONYMOUS” EXCLUSIVE AT AYALA MALLS CINEMAS

Set in the political snake-pit of Elizabethan England, Columbia Pictures' new thriller “Anonymous” speculates on an issue that has for centuries intrigued academics and brilliant minds such as Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, and Sigmund Freud, namely: who actually created the body of work credited to William Shakespeare?

Experts have debated, books have been written, and scholars have devoted their lives to protecting or debunking theories surrounding the authorship of the most renowned works in English literature. “Anonymous” poses one possible answer, focusing on a time when scandalous political intrigue, illicit romances in the Royal Court, and the schemes of greedy nobles lusting for the power of the throne were brought to light in the most unlikely of places: the London stage.

To be shown soon exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma), “Anonymous” stars Rhys Ifans, Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Xavier Samuel, Sebastian Armesto, Rafe Spall, Edward Hogg, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Derek Jacobi. The film is directed by Roland Emmerich from the script by John Orloff.

It might not seem that Roland Emmerich – best known as the director of the epic blockbusters “Independence Day,” “The Day After Tomorrow” and “2012” – would necessarily choose as his next project a story set in Elizabethan England. However, for nearly ten years, he has wanted to make a film with the Shakespeare authorship question as a backdrop – a yearning that is fulfilled with “Anonymous.”

Screenwriter John Orloff says he had been fascinated by the Shakespeare authorship question since first learning about the controversy as a 25-year-old graduate student 20 years ago. “My first thought was, ‘Why had no one told me this?!’” he says. “My second thought was that this would make a fantastic film. It had everything – murder, sex, lies, betrayal – truly the stuff of Shakespearean drama.”

In writing that story, Orloff centered around the idea of two writers – Shakespeare, the front man, and the true writer, behind the curtain. “Ben Jonson wrote the introduction to the first folio, the first official published plays of Shakespeare – he writes this beautiful, beautiful poem dedicated to Shakespeare who by that point, had been dead for several years. But if you read other Jonson works, some shorter poems or some of his plays, he’s not quite so laudatory of Shakespeare and his poems actually make fun of him and are very angry with him. It made me think that Jonson was talking about two different people – one, the true poet, and the other, a fraud.”

Emmerich was immediately receptive to Orloff’s idea – and the director had some big ideas that he felt the story could support. “The script is very much about the relationship between Ben Jonson, William Shakespeare, and Edward De Vere – that is very much the heart of the movie – but I felt it just needed a little more than that. I asked myself, ‘What was the most important thing in that era?’ and it was clearly succession” – the question of who would follow the heiress Elizabeth on the throne.

“I had a little story about art and jealousy,” says Orloff, “and with that suggestion, Roland wanted to propel the script into a whole new dimension of dramatic possibility.”

“What intrigued me was not just the idea that William Shakespeare did not write the plays,” says Emmerich. “That spark opened up all sorts of avenues for the story, to look at the creative fire in people and to explore the relationship between art and politics – is the pen truly mightier than the sword?”

Tackling a subject that is so widely discussed and documented proved rather tricky for Orloff in the early stages of his script writing. He says, “Writing something that is based on non-fiction and historical material simply has to find a way to balance between fact and drama,” says Orloff. “We tried as much as possible to keep to historical facts – and I’m very proud of how accurate it is, as long as you take the conceit that the movie portrays DeVere as the writer of the works and not William Shakespeare. Not everyone’s going to agree with that!”

“Roland has such a feel for the exciting topics that get people out of their chairs,” says producer Kirstin Winkler. “I certainly don’t think that the film is trying to dictate his story as the truth; it’s just one take on the authorship question, telling one tale.”

That said, Winkler goes on that she expects Emmerich’s film to be controversial. “There is quite a radical group of Stratfordians out there who feel very strongly about preserving the image of Shakespeare as the writer of the plays and sonnets,” she says.

But controversy aside, actor David Thewlis says that the film works well simply as a story. “No matter what you believe, it’s a great story,” he says. “Roland is very passionate about authorship question and he wants to put it to a wider audience. He is a very mischievous man, but I think he’s been rather daring to do this story – he likes to push people’s buttons.”

THE DEVIL INSIDE: RED BAND TRAILER

I don't usually watch these kinds of movie. I really have a weird and twisted imagination when I'm alone. This movie might ruin me... :) But the shocks and suspense of it will surely give me the jolt that I need. Whew!!

This is about a woman in Italy who becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms during her mission to discover what happened to her mother, who allegedly murdered three people during an exorcism performed on her.

Maria’s possession proves to be unlike anything in the history of Christianity. It goes horribly wrong, and the only piece of evidence is the footage caught by the film crew.

The film was shot in a realistic documentary style in 2010 in several different locations, including Bucharest (Romania), Rome (Italy) and Vatican City. Now we have The Red-Band trailer below (I hope it is). The film stars Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth, and Suzan Crowley, and is slated to be shown on February 29, 2012 in the Philippines.

Martin Nievera’s new album MGA AWIT AT DAMDAMIN

Following the success of 2011’s “Himig ng Damdamin” album, Martin Nievera returned to the studio and came up with another exciting quality mixture of originals and covers in the shape of “Mga Awit at Damdamin”. Much like his previous work, “Mga Awit at Damdamin” features some of the most gorgeous melodies and arrangements in OPM this year. As PolyEast Records bring another OPM romantic ballads and standards collection from the concert king, “Mga Awit at Damdamin” is now available at all records bars nationwide.

“Mga Awit at Damdamin,” a sequel to the 2011 release Himig ng Damdamin”, features music which Martin sings with the piano and the acoustic guitar, along with classic pieces selected by the singer and the album producer, Mr. Chito Ilagan of PolyEast Records. On the new album, Martin takes on some of OPM’s greatest songs from icons of the 1970s to the modern times like Anthony Castelo, Basil Valdez, Wency Cornejo, George Canseco, Ogie Alcacid, The Bloomfields and among others.

The 12-track album kicks off with an Ogie Alcacid original “Sa Kanya”, accompanied with some solid slide guitar work. As the album travels through time, the album also highlights a very simple ballad number accompanied by beautiful guitar string arrangements, “Dadalhin”, Martin’s own interpretation of the 90s Regine Velasquez hit. “Habang May Buhay” is a cover of the Wency Cornejo hit, very much warm with acoustic guitar.

The album also includes a respectable version of the old “Ang Lahat ng Ito’y Para Sa ‘Yo” originally by Hajie Alejandro; the classics “Kapalaran” and “Together Forever” originally by Rico J. Puno are brightened by fiddle and acoustic guitar; Martin’s jazzy-pop rendition of the pop band True Faith with the song “Huwag Na Lang Kaya”; “Ikawa ng Musika” was previously made famous by The Bloomfields; The lovely Basil Valdez’ “Ngayon at Kailanman” takes on new meaning through Martin's performance; a remake of another well-known track with Leah Salonga’s “Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal”; and Martin’s voice pays tribute the song “Hahanapin Ko” which was originally popularized by Anthony Castelo. In addition to the remakes, an original song from the album is “Ikaw Lamang” which was used in ABS-CBN’s drama series “Nasaan Ka, Elisa?”

Martin Nievera stands amongst the most influential figures in OPM music and his latest release is a moving tribute to Filipino artists that inspired and influenced him as a musician. “Mga Awit at Damdamin” album is now available with a bonus Minus-One CD, released by PolyEast Records.

THE DAY AFTER 9/11 IN “EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE”

One of the most definitive novels about 9/11 becomes one of the year’s most cathartic cinematic experiences as Warner Bros. brings to the screen “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock. Directed by Stephen Daldry (“The Reader,” “The Hours”), the film has been nominated for Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards.

In 2005 the novelist Jonathan Safran Foer, already renowned for his blend of incisive comedy and tragedy in his debut novel “Everything Is Illuminated,” published his follow-up “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.” His second novel was, on the one hand, the playful story of an unusually precocious and sensitive boy who invents fantastical devices, dreams about astrophysics, collects a vast assortment of random facts – and is compelled into a quixotic odyssey through the fabric of New York. At the same time, the novel was the first major literary exploration into the grief of 9/11 families, and a study of how a child’s imagination helps him navigate overwhelming fear and unfathomable loss in the wake of events that no logic could possibly reconcile.

When Stephen Daldry read the book, he was struck most of all by Oskar’s subjective point of view. An unusual child with arrestingly high intelligence yet eccentric and obsessive behaviors that might put him on the autistic spectrum, Oskar describes the world around him with his own particular mix of naiveté and insight, nervousness and boldness, incomprehension and a need to understand. Most of all, Daldry was intrigued by how this POV, just like a child’s imagination, combined random thoughts, flashes of memory, lists of ideas and impromptu fantasies with pure emotion – all at a moment when life has irrevocably changed for Oskar’s family and the world around him.

“I found it truly compelling that Jonathan Safran Foer told this story not only from the perspective of a boy enduring unimaginable heartbreak, but a boy who has his own singular view of everything,” says Daldry. “It’s a perspective that is engaging, inventive and emotionally rich.”

Oskar’s very personal experience of September 11th, and what came after, was brought to the fore in a screenplay adaptation by Eric Roth, who wanted to be true to the distinctive immediacy of Foer’s novel. “It’s a very emotional book and I hope it is a very emotional movie,” says Roth. “There’s also a real kinetic energy to the book – and the challenge was to translate that into visual imagery.”

The book wove many themes – of individual and national trauma, of childhood’s strangeness, of the nature of tragedy and the endurance of love through family hardship – into its tapestry. Each of those themes was key to the storytelling, but Roth found his way in through one particular element: the relationship between Oskar and his father, Thomas (Hanks), who is seen in the film entirely through Oskar’s subjective memories, which are in turn fueled by a confusing mixture of love, loss and lingering questions.

Oskar deeply misses his father’s so-called “reconnaissance expeditions,” clever puzzles that Thomas created for Oskar to solve, not only as inspired father-son games but also to help him engage with the world despite his social awkwardness. So when he finds the mysterious key in the bottom of a vase hidden in the dark recesses of his father’s closet, Oskar propels himself into a new mission to ferret out the key’s meaning.

His only clue to the key’s potential origins is the name “Black,” written on the envelope in which he found it, so Oskar dutifully makes an ambitious plan to visit all 472 people named Black in the New York City phone books, even though, according to the math, it will take him three years to do so.

Like many kids with gifted intelligence, high sensory sensitivity and impaired social skills, Oskar thrives on schedules, rules and facts yet his search takes him far from the predictable and the comfortable. But no matter what obstacles stand in his way, Oskar is determined to complete his task.

“Oskar is a kid who is different, but in a wonderful way,” notes Roth. “He might have a form of Asperger’s but he also has a great imagination and a real sense of curiosity along with his many fears. For a long time, he was kept afloat very much by his father who enjoyed so many similar things. So now, when Oskar finds his father’s key a year after his death, he believes it has to unlock something – a piece of advice, an object, some wisdom that his father left for him. And it leads him on an adventure that is his way of coming to terms with grief and all sorts of other things.”

As Roth began compacting Foer’s wide-ranging plot and finding the cinematic structure, he found Foer to be a supportive resource. “Jonathan is a wonderful novelist but my ability is to be a good dramatist and bring the work alive on the screen. He really trusted me in that process and we developed a very close and collaborative relationship.”

Adds Stephen Daldry: “Jonathan really understands the difference between a book and a script, and was very helpful. He never once uttered the phrase, ‘Well, in the book…’ He was always open to interpretation and reinvention.”

Q&A WITH MICHELLE WILLIAMS ON “MY WEEK WITH MARILYN”

Michelle Williams takes on the iconic role of Marilyn Monroe in The Weinstein Company's critically acclaimed "My Week with Marilyn." Earning for Williams a Best Actress Oscar nomination, the film is based on Colin Clark's book of the same name and chronicles his time spent working with Monroe while she was in England shooting the romantic comedy "The Prince and the Showgirl" in 1956.

Williams sat down with journalists to talk about portraying Monroe, the film, shooting her current role of Glinda the good witch in Sam Raimi's "Oz: The Great and Powerful" and her six-year-old daughter Matilda with late actor Heath Ledger.

Question: Did you have an awareness of Marilyn Monroe and her starpower when you were younger?

Michelle Williams: "I was interested in her, but then I kind of lost track of her over the last 10 years or so. I had a poster of her up in my room. It wasn't a picture of her as the icon, it was a picture of her looking like an ordinary joyful girl. So I definitely had some kind of connection. (Working on this film) reignited whatever initial, sort of, attraction I had to her when I was a teenager."

Q: Did you do your own singing in the film?
Williams: "Yes and my mother is going to be so excited when she sees this. She always wanted me to sing and dance. I had so much fun doing that!"

Q: So doing a musical could be in the cards for you?

Williams: "I would love to. What's so liberating about singing and dancing is that it turns your head off. You coast on this wave of muscle memory. You literally can't think while you're performing. There's a kind of transcendence to it. I think maybe that's why Marilyn was so especially talented at it. Her singing and dancing are unparalleled and her musical numbers are just breathtaking."

Q: The film used many of the same locations in shooting "Prince and the Showgirl." Did that add to the production?
Williams: "There was a lot of synchronicity. We shot in the actual Parkside house (that Marilyn lived in). My dressing room at Pinewood was Marilyn's actual dressing room. That was so special. The stage where she shot that song and dance number was the stage where I shot mine. So many of the props in our movie were in the original 'Prince and the Showgirl' movie."

Q: Did it ever feel ghostly?

Williams: "Well, it's all energy. And it's what you make of it. I like to make things out of nothing! (laughs) I like to spin things out of thin air, so that stuff works for me."

Q: Did you wear wigs for the part, or grow out your hair?

Williams: "I wore wigs, but I had to keep my hair really bleached underneath because it would show through the wigs. My eyebrows had to be dark and they were reshaped. You go through so many grotesque phases making movies (laughs). I never really feel quite like myself. I just feel like a mutant -- always halfway in between some other person and myself. I don't know what belongs to me and what doesn't!"

Q: After filming ended was it hard to let go of Marilyn?
Williams: "I think when you work in a way that really gets under your skin, its not an easy break. You make a little extra room for these people that you play and then they leave. You're left with this hollow space. I wish I could play her again."

Q: Does your daughter Matilda come to set?
Williams: "She comes with me everywhere."

Q: How do you balance getting into character and then going home at the end of the day to be a mom?

Williams: "What works for me is to have a commute from where we live to where I work. So that in the morning, I leave the house behind and walk clean and fresh into my professional life. And then the same thing on the way home. I find that a 20 or 30 minute commute makes a kind of passageway for me that I need."

Q: You're currently shooting "Oz," playing Glinda. Matilda must love coming to that set.

Williams: "It's the best thing professionally that's happened to us. It has brought her on board my work in a way that wasn't possible in a movie like 'Marilyn' or 'Blue Valentine.' On those, there was no space for a kid to come visit and be a kid. (With 'Oz') she comes every single day after school because it's like a playground. She says, 'There's only one good witch and it's my mom.' She's very excited about it."

Q: It's interesting that you said the project was the best thing to happen professionally to "us" not "me."
Williams: "Definitely. Every choice that I make is about how it's going to affect our life -- where it films, how long it is, what else is going on in her year, what's the last job I did, how much time I've had off in between, how much time we had to really deeply connect and how long can we sustain a period of time where I'm working. So when 'Oz' came along, it was very clear to me that it was the right decision for us."

“My Week With Marilyn” will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma) starting Feb. 29.

THIS MEANS WAR: MOVIE

The world’s deadliest CIA operatives are inseparable partners and best friends until they fall for the same woman. Having once helped bring down entire enemy nations, they are now employing their incomparable skills and an endless array of high-tech gadgetry against their greatest nemesis ever – each other.

It stars Two CIA agents (Chris Pine and Tom Hardy) who happen to be best friends also happen to fall in love with the same woman (Reese Witherspoon), who has no idea these guys know each other. Promising that this wouldn't get into their friendship, this crazy spy vs spy game take a lot of turn and gives you a good kick in you funny bones.

"This Means War" a 20th Century Fox release, is rated PG-13 for sexual content including references, some violence and action, and for language and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Running time: 97 minutes. Two and a half stars out of four.

PINOY LOVE FOR "THE VOW". GROSSES P34-M IN 7 DAYS

MANILA, Feb 17 – Columbia Pictures' touching romantic drama “The Vow” stole the hearts of Filipino audiences as it grossed an outstanding P34.08-million nationwide in its first seven days of release (Feb 10-16) and on only 61 screens. This was announced today by Vic Cabrera, managing director of Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. which distributed the film.

Attracting a predominantly date-market, “The Vow's” successful box-office performance benefited from a pre-Valentine and Friday opening – an irresistible formula for the film's target audience.

“Our decision to launch the film on the same date as its U.S. bow has paid off,” said Cabrera. “We've always believed that `The Vow' is a special love story that Filipinos can relate to, given our fondness for sentimental, romantic movies. Add to this the unmistakable screen chemistry of stars Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, and you have a clear crowd-pleaser.”

In North America, “The Vow” made it to the altar at No. 1 with a sweet $41.7 million gross, outperforming “Safe House” and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.” It's the biggest opening for Screen Gems (a unit of Sony Pictures) whose previous record-holder, “Dear John,” is also a romance tearjerker that starred Tatum.

Back in the Philippines, Trinoma posted the highest box-office receipts for “The Vow” at P2.79-M, followed closely by SM Mall of Asia (P2.21-M), Greenbelt 3 (P1.66-M), Glorietta 4 (P1.60-M), Power Plant (P1.45-M), SM North EDSA (P1.37-M), SM Megamall (P1.35-M), Ayala Cebu (P1.21-M), Gateway Cineplex (P1.07-M) and Alabang Town Center (P1.06-M).

Rounding out the Top 20 cinemas are Robinsons Ermita (P1.05-M), Greehills Cinema (P 917,490), Newport City (P 914,345), SM Cebu (P 901,280), Shang Cineplex (P 848,402), SM San Lazaro (P 785,797), SM Manila (P 752,793), Robinsons Galleria (P 733,666), Eastwood Cinema (P 706,372) and SM Baguio (P 588,714).

In “The Vow,” Paige (McAdams) and Leo (Tatum) are a young married couple, madly in love and living fulfilling lives as artists in Chicago. One snowy night, the two fall victim to a car accident. Leo survives intact, but a head trauma erases Paige’s entire memory of her relationship with her husband. When she comes out of her coma, Leo is a stranger to her. Suddenly Leo finds himself in the painful position of rebooting the relationship he’s waited his whole life for, and win his wife's love all over again.

HUGO IN 3D: MOVIE REVIEW

Hugo Movie Synopsis: Hugo tells the story of an orphan boy living a secret life in the walls of a Paris train station. With the help of an eccentric girl, he searches for the answer to a mystery linking the father he recently lost, the ill-tempered toy shop owner living below him and a heart shaped lock, seemingly without a key.

Shot in 3D, and directed by Martin Scorsese gives us this heartwarming family movie about fining purpose and giving love. The movie has gotten 11 Academy Award nominations Including Best Picture and Best Director. Not bad of a movie if you ask me. :) Quite good.

As I have said before, the Scorsese's 3D family film takes needs to be appreciated for its finer aspects and deeper meaning. There are many lovelythings in this film, including a call to cinema and film preservation. But to make this simple and innocent tale into an amazing story for the cinema, couldn't have been done better any other way than Scorsese. It starts Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Chloe Grace Moretz, Emily Mortimer, Jude Law, and Christopher Lee.

I give the movie 4 out of 5 for its breathtaking visual spectacle and full of imagination.

"Certainly a masterpiece"

“MY WEEK WITH MARILYN” EXCLUSIVE AT AYALA MALLS CINEMAS

The Weinstein Company's critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated film “My Week With Marilyn” starring Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh will be shown soon exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma).

Early in the summer of 1956, American film star Marilyn Monroe (Williams) set foot on British soil for the first time. On honeymoon with her husband, the celebrated playwright Arthur Miller (Dougray Scott), Monroe came to England to shoot “The Prince and the Showgirl” - the film that famously united her with Sir Laurence Olivier (Branagh), the British theatre and film legend who directed and co-starred in the film.

That same summer, 23-year-old Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne) set foot on a film set for the first time in his life. Newly graduated from Oxford, Clark aspired to be a filmmaker and found a job as a lowly production hand on the set of “The Prince and the Showgirl.” Forty years later, he recounted his experiences of the six-month shoot in a diary-style memoir entitled The Prince, the Showgirl and Me. But one week in Clark's account was missing...

It wasn't until years later that Clark revealed why. In a follow-up memoir entitled My Week with Marilyn, he recounted the true story of one magical week he spent alone with the world's biggest star -- the week he spent with Marilyn.

"For a lot of people Marilyn is more of an iconic image than an actress,” admits director Simon Curtis. "People haven't seen her films as much as they have her portrait. My way into this project was falling in love with the first of Colin Clark's two memoirs. As somebody who was assistant director at The Royal Court Theatre, I found it fascinating to uncover this moment in time.”

The first memoir, The Prince, The Showgirl and Me, recounts Clark's experiences working as third assistant director on the set of Monroe's first film as both producer and star in which she played opposite Olivier, who also directed. The book recounts the production's myriad problems, fuelled almost exclusively by the lack of communication and understanding between the two stars: Monroe's erratic behavior and tardiness were exacerbated by her addiction to alcohol and prescription medication; while Olivier, a staunch traditionalist, refused to accommodate Monroe's idiosyncrasies or her devotion to Method acting, which she practiced under the guidance of Paula Strasberg.

While Clark's memoir is a dishy, fly-on-the-wall account of Olivier's and Monroe's fraught partnership, his follow-up memoir, My Week With Marilyn, feels like an intimate confession. In it, Clark affectionately remembers one enchanted week he spent leading the troubled Monroe on a tour of the English countryside. It offers an all-too-rare glimpse of the real woman beneath the carefully cultivated image, unencumbered by the busy machinery of stardom.

"I couldn't believe my eyes when My Week with Marilyn was published,” avows Curtis. "Colin really did have this tense, erotically charged week with the most famous woman in the world, at the peak of her fame. I couldn't believe my luck when I was able to get hold of the rights. Watched HUGO in 3D

Watched the Philippine premiere screening of Hugo last night at Resorts World Manila - Newport Cinemas

Hugo is set in 1930s Paris, an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.

Directed by Martin Scorsese with 11 Academy Award nominations Including Best Picture and Best Director.

Not bad of a movie. :) really good.

The Scorsese's 3D family film takes needs to be appreciated for its finer aspects and deeper meaning. There are many lovely things in this film, including a call to cinema and film preservation. :) - mixofeverything.blogspot.com
