キツネの散歩　a fox, taking a walk

春めいてきて、キツネも散歩時ですね。

Here spring gradually comes around here, and so a fox is just the time to walk around.

　自動車から降りると、駐車場の中にトコトコと入ってくる動物がいます。最初は近所の野良猫かと思ったのですが、いや違います。顔がスリムでとがっている。目つきが鋭い。しっぽがやけに大きい。
　ここに越してきて初めてキツネに遭遇しました。さすが野生動物です。何か動きに鋭さがあります。思わず体がすくんでしまいます。
　このキツネ君、最初は私の顔をじろっと見ていましたが、害がないと思ったのでしょう、私の足元まで近づいてきました。何かエサを探しているようです。ちょっと立ち止まったかと思うと、方向を変えて、我が家の玄関をウロウロし、そのまま隣の庭に消えて行ってしまいました。

　向かいに住んでいる娘もこのキツネを目撃。庭のベランダでたたずんでいたそうです。その時のワンショットをもらいました。いかがですか、美しい姿でしょう。

　ちょっとやせ細っているようにも見えましたが、足取りはしっかりしていました。野生動物として山の中で生きていくのもなかなか楽ではないんでしょうね。
　私たちが稲荷神社に行くとよく目にするキツネの像に似ていますね。

When I returned home and step out to the parking space, suddenly I saw some animal is approaching to me. First I thought that this might be a cat in my neighbors. But looking intently, No, it has a sharp face, its tail is very big. Yes, it's a fox.
I have been there for 20 years, but for the first time I see a fox. Because of its sharp movement and feeling that this must be a wild animal, I feel frozen to the toe feeling of danger.
First it stares me, and may be feeling that this person is harmless, it walks toward me. Wow. It may seeking for food and come to my foot, then turn around to my entrance door. After a while it disappears to the neighbor's garden.

My daughter living at the house across the street finds the same fox in her veranda of backyard. See the second picture. It's a beautiful figure.

In Japan a fox is worshiped as a god and you can find many fox shrines here in Japan. It must be because of its beautiful figure.

カモシカ君、向かいの庭でたたずむ Japanese serow hanging around the garden

　福井の友人家族が我が家を訪れて楽しく昼食を共にしているときに、突然フラッと現れたカモシカ君。向かいの家の庭でひなたぼっこを楽しんでいます。鼻のところがかゆいのでしょうか、木に鼻をこすりつけているようです。おっとりとした表情と、ゆったりとした動きは、我々の心をなごませてくれます。
　我が家のあたりではよくカモシカを見かけます。天然記念物なので法律的に保護されているからでしょうか、人を恐れることはありません。人がいても、ほとんど無視して、のったりと歩いています。
　でも平地を歩いている歩き方、何かへんですね。もともと山岳地帯に住んでいたようで、崖の険しいところでも難なく登り降りできるようです。確かに急な山道を歩いている方が向いているような歩き方です。そういえばこないだカモシカが崖のような山腹を歩いているのを見かけましたが、そんなところをごく普通な感じで歩いていました。

While my friend and his family visit us from Fukui and enjoying lunch, suddenly appears the Japanese serow. Enjoying its rambling about my neighbor's garden, it may be having a sun-bath. Seemingly itchy, it rubs his nose to the tree. Its smiley face and relaxed walking comforts our heart.
We sometimes encounter this Japanese serow, because it may live near hear and here is its territory. This serow is protected by the nature conservation law. Maybe that is because it never fears men. Even if it encounters a man, it almost neglects him and slowly walking by through him.
But something is strange about its walking way. It always walks at the steepy mountain range, so the walking way fits that kind of place. This flat place does not fit to it for walking.
So see you again serow!

キジトラ猫ポンタの日々 days of a brown tabby cat Ponta

　黒猫クマ子が我が家の家族になってから、2年ほどになります。
　ところで、我が家の近所には何匹かの外猫がうろうろしています。時々、縄張り争いのせいか、恐ろしい猫の鳴き声が聞こえるときがあります。中でも、うちの向かいの家を拠点としていると思われる、キジトラ猫がいます。我が家では、その猫を「ポンタ」と呼んでいます。体が小さくてとても可愛い猫です。正面から見ると何とも言えない哲学的な顔をしています。ちょっとフクロウの顔に似ているかも。
　ポンタが来たよと叫ぶと、我が家の黒猫は窓のところに飛んできます。そして、うれしいのでしょうか、窓のところから呼びかけているように思えます。
　ポンタは、体が小さくても、とても活動的です。雪降る寒いときでも、雪の中で走り回っています。「犬は庭駆けめぐり、猫はこたつで丸くなる」という歌が当てはまらない猫です。

Two years have passed since my black cat Kumako became one of my family member.
In my neighborhood, Several cats go around here. Sometimes some cats scream and roar for their territory control, maybe fighting seems to happen.

A brown tabby cat lives around the house across the street. We call this cat 'Ponta'. Small lovely and cute. Seems a little philosopher? or an owl?
When we say to Kumako 'Here comes Ponta', then Kumako rushes to the window and stares to Ponta and calls him dearly with mew mew voice.
Ponta is very active cat. Even in the snowy days he runs about in the snow.

アオゲラの日々 Days of green woodpecker

　アオゲラはキツツキの仲間で、この付近の森に住んでいま。ときどき近所の木にとまっているのを見かけます。普通の鳥と違い、アオゲラは幹に垂直にとまります。キツツキの仲間なので、この垂直の姿勢でくちばしを木の幹に打ち付けて木に穴をあけ、巣を作るそうです。
　ところが、このあたりに住んでいる人にとって、この鳥は脅威です。なぜなら、家に穴をあけるからです！困ったものです。特に軒下の板は、穴があけやすいのか、狙われやすいです。
　案の定、我が家の軒下にも穴が開いていました。直径約１０センチぐらいです。そして、その穴からアオゲラが出入りしているのを目撃しました。このままほっておくと、軒下の空間に巣を作られるのではないかと思い、穴の開いたところに板をはりました。家の一番高いところに穴をあけられたので、なかなか苦労しました。これでよしと思いきや、数日後にはそのはりつけた板に、またまた穴をあけられました。というわけで、アオゲラとの闘いは、いまだとどまるところを知りません。

Here you sometimes see a green woodpecker settling vertically along the trunk of a tree, as you see in the picture above. It makes a hole at the trunk for their nest and bear their eggs and feed their babies.
However this bird becomes a mess in my neighbors. Because it makes a hole around the house they live. Especially it likes under the eaves of the roof because the board is thin and easy to make a hole.
Anyway as is afraid, my house is attacked and made a hole about 4 inches large. And now I saw this bird go in and out through this big hole!
So I stick a board to that hole. It's quite a difficult job because the hole is made at the highest place of my house. And then after a few days that cover board is made a hole by this woodpecker! The fight against this bird is still continuing.

クマ子：外猫の日々 Kumako: the days of outdoor cat

一晩中「ミューミュー」外で泣いていた、黒猫さん。かわいそうになったので、とりあえず外猫として飼うことにしました。
　毎日食事の時間になると、我が家の玄関テラスにあらわれ、食べ物をせびります。食べ終わると、テラスの下や倉庫の下に隠れてしまいます。とても用心深く、最初はなかなか触ることやちょっと撫でることもできませんでした。

　しばらくすると食事中とかに撫でることができるようになりました。それから、だんだん慣れてきたので、手製の猫じゃらしで遊ぼうと思い立ちました。けっこう乗ってきました。軍手を丸めたボールにひもをつけて、ポンと放り出すと、いきなり猫パンチです。猫の遊び心をくすぐることができるようになったようです。
　だんだん気を許すようになり、機嫌のいい時は自ら近づてくるようになりました。それで思い立ちました。名前を付けよう！それで、家族であれこれ話し合った結果「クマ子」にしました。どんなもんでしょうか？一応メス猫です。
　クマ子さんもしばらくすると、この家が我が家なのだと分かってきたようです。わたしたちの側も、クマ子が我が家の家族の一人であると、少しずつ感じることができるようになってきました。

黒猫のひもじさに鳴くいとおしや　　均子

Hearing meow meow cry all night long, we feel so pity for the cat that anyway we decide to feed this cute black baby cat.
Day by day at the exact time of meal this cat appears on the front porch to have its food. However it's quite suspicious to us. I cannot even touch or pat this cat. Several days after, then I can approach and even touch it, while it is eating food.
As weeks pass by, I can stroke it and even play with it using some handmade play tools. So we feel this cute cat as one of my family, and maybe so does this cat. Then we decide to name this cat. After consulting with my family members, this cat is named 'Kumako'. 'Kuma' means a bear in Japanese. Because a bear is black, this name fits. Last two letters 'ko' is the title of a girl because this cat is female.
Spending several weeks with Kumako, we can feel united with her.

可愛すぎる子猫　　too cute a kitten

２～３日前からミューミューと、一晩中子猫の鳴き声が聞こえてきます。麦ばぁばの心がこの子猫の鳴き声に刺激されて、不安定になり、ネコといっしょにミューミューと言い出してしまいました。子猫が可哀想ということで、寝ても冷めても「かわいそうな子猫」と、つぶやきます。さすがの麦じぃじもちょっと心を動かされて、「そいじゃあちょっと見てみようか」ということになりました。

　隣の家のベランダに横たわっている子猫を見ると、何とまあ可愛いこと！ちょっと可愛すぎますね。
　というわけで、飼うことはできないにしても、麦じぃじも「可愛いそう」に思い出してきて、とりあえず食べ物をあげることにしました。おなかがすいていたのでしょうか？置いておいたソーセージはすぐになくなってしまいました。２～３度たべものをあげると、やがてミューミューというなき声が聞こえなくなりました。
　そのうちわが家の庭の小径を通り、表通りをさっそうと歩く子猫の姿を見て、ホッとしました。可愛い子猫って罪ですね。こんなに人の心を揺さぶるなんて・・・

These few days we hear meow meow voice every night. The voice of a kitten. Now my wife 'Mugi Baaba' gets sick because of that voice, and everyday she began meow meow with the kitten. She insists that 'How sorry that kitten must be!' every time she see my face.
So I agree to see that kitten. It streches at the floor of the porch of my neighbour's house. And look how cute it is! It is too cute.
Although I cannot keep a cat in my house, we decide to feed it for a while. We put some sausages near that kitten, and after several minutes they have disappeared. That happens few times then, we cannot hear meow meow voice. May be it must be satisfied with foods.
Now we see that kitten walking along the path of my garden and then walking smatly along the main street.

雪の中のヤマガラ A varied tit in snow

　寒くなるとわが家の庭の木々にヤマガラが毎日のように数羽訪問してきます。ヤマガラはすずめほどの小さな鳥たちです。雪が降って寒くなり、山の森のほうには実が少なくなったからでしょうか？食料を求めてわが家の庭先にまでくるようです。特にわが家のエゴの木の実がお目当てです。この時期になると、木の実は地面に落ちているのですが、雪に埋もれたその実をどこからかほじくりだして、木の枝の上に運び、コンコンとくちばしでつつきながら実を食べているようです。
　ですからヤマガラたちが来ると、あちこちでコンコンという音がするので、すぐに気がつきます。そして木の上から地面にダイビングしたり、地面から素早く木の枝の上に飛び上がったりと、あわただしいながらも可愛い仕草をして私たちの目を楽しませてくれます。
　「ジイジイ」という鳴き声もかわいいです。まるで自分（じいじ）が呼ばれているように愛らしく鳴きます。ちょっと私たちと一緒に遊んでおくれと誘っているようです。でも、お誘いにのって外へでると、さっと逃げていってしまいます。それでがっかりして家の中に入るとまた「ジイジイ」とお誘いがかかります。まあイタチごっこですね。

ヤマガラに呼び誘われて雪の中　　均子

In winter season several varied tits visit my garden almost every day. A varied tit is a small and cute bird, the size is almost a sparrow. Maybe food becomes scarce in the forest, so they come to this country place. Especially their favorite is the nuts of the styrax tree in my garden. Almost all the nuts of this tree have fallen on the ground. However they dig this nuts from the ground and take it up to the twig, then they begin to peck them to eat the delicious one under the hard skin. That must be a hardworking, but these birds are quite diligent and seem to be enjoying it.
The sound 'tap tap' means these varied tits are visiting us. At the same time their chirping sounds like 'jiijii'. In Japanese 'jiijii' means granpa. So when their 'jiijii' sound comes, it's like they are calling me to come out and join us. Of course when I go outside and try to have some talk with them, they soon scatter away. I have nothing for it.

最近猿の集団が、この山里の一角を蹂躙するようになってきました。近所の人も、せっかく庭で育てたブルーベリーやミニトマト、ぶどうの実など、ことごとく食べられているようです。
　わが家のグミの実もご多分にもれず、ことごとく猿たちの食物となってしまいました。これまでも、グミの実はヒヨドリにずいぶん乱獲されてきたのですが、猿たちの食べ方は半端ではありません。2日ほどで、木の実という実がすべてなくなってしまいます。すごい食欲です。食欲旺盛な様子は、写真を見てもらえればよくわかると思います。
　まあ、私もそれほどたくさん食べるわけでもありませんし、沢山出来すぎると、実が地面を覆って腐りだすと、異臭を放つことにもなるので、ある意味ありがたいと言えるかもしれません。

　猿たちの生活パターンも変わってきたのでしょうか？本来は山に生息する猿の集団が里に降りてくるのは、やはり山に食べ物が少ないためでしょうか？猿の数が増えすぎたのでしょうか？理由は定かではありませんが、山里に暮らしていても、いろいろ変化があります。地球環境の変化が起きているのでしょうか？

猿たちと共に味わう旨き実を　　均子

In recent days, groups of monkeys often come around our neighborhood and sometimes eat all the fruits that are carefully taken care of by our neighbours.
I have a goumi fruit tree in my garden and it produces so many sweet and sour fruits in spring days. However this year all the fruits are eaten by those monkeys. True these fruits have been eaten by many birds, but this time the situation is quite different. Monkeys have a vast appetite and they eate completely whole fruits. Not one is left there. Look this picture and video.
But I don't care so much because I eat not so many. Rather it's fine because when so many fuits are produced, fallen fruits are rotten and get stinky.

Why this happens? Too many monkeys in the mountain? No food in the mountain? Or changed behavior pattern? I don't know why, but even in such a courntry place you can feel some changes in the nature. What is happenning in the earth environment?

ヒヨドリの桜狩り bulbuls strolling around cherry blossoms

　桜が間もなく満開になろうとしている今、ヒヨドリが頻繁に桜の枝に来るようになりました。楽しげに桜のところでぴーよぴーよと歌いながら遊んでいるので、何をしているのかなと思ってよく見ていると、どうやら桜の花蜜を吸っているようです。
　熊ん蜂やちょうちょが花の周りを舞いつつ花蜜を吸うのはよく見ます。またあの小さくて可愛いハチドリが羽ばたきながら花みつを吸っている姿は、よく映像で見ますが、まさかこの大型の鳥であるヒヨドリが花蜜を吸うなどとは思っても見ませんでした。
　でも美味しいものは誰にとっても美味しいということなのでしょう。何やらヒヨドリが愛おしくなってきました。

As cherry blossoms bloom to the full in my garden, some bulbuls often come around the twigs of the tree. Singing 'piiyo piiyo' they play around the flowers. I wonder what are they doing. As I observe intently, now I find that this bird is sucking the nector of this cherry blossoms.
Yes you may often see bees and butterflys are going around flowers and suck the nector. Or you may see from some photoes that a hummingbird stays in front of a flower sucking nector of the flower. However I have never seen such a big bird suck tiny flower nector. It's amazing!
Anyway everyone loves sweet nector even it is small or big. So all the more I begin to love this bulbul.

　たそがれどき、夕日が地平線に沈みかけるころ、雪で分厚く化粧した立山は、しばらくのあいだピンク色に染まります。冷徹な白い山の表情は、その間だけ心を和ませる優しさを見せてくれます。寒さ厳しい中で心温まる瞬間です。
　やがて夕日が沈んでいくに連れ、山の色はピンク色からブルーへと変化していきます。同時に私の立っている辺りも急激に寒くなってきます。手がかじかんてきそうです。温かみのある色から酷寒のブルーへと山の色が変化する頃には、早々に暖房の効いた部屋へといそいで戻ることにしました。
　暖かい日差しが待ち遠しい今日このごろです。

夕暮れのしじまに浮かぶ赤き山　　均子

As the sun sets in the horizen, thickly snow covered Tateyama Mt. changes its color from pure white to bluish pink. At that moment dispassionate colored mountain soften its face into a gentle and tender expression. That's the exact moment that you feel warm in the wintry cold air.
As time passes minutes by minutes the mountain color changes from that bluish pink into bleak blue. Then suddenly the place I'm standing gets colder and colder. And my fingers feels numb. Before the color changes completely into bleak blue, I'll get back to my well warmed room in a hurry.
Just waiting eagerly for the warm rays of the sun.

雪原に散らばるダイヤモンド Diamonds scattering on the snow field

寒い朝目を覚ますと、隣の空き地の雪野原がきらきら輝いています。何かと思ってよく見ると、ようやく白みかけた朝の太陽の光を反射して、ダイヤモンドのような氷の輝きが、一面に広がっています。降りつもった雪野原自体も美しいものですが、その上に宝石のように散らばった、たくさんの輝きを見ていると、吸い込まれそうなほどの美しさです。夜空にきらめく天の川の星々にも匹敵する光景でしょう。
　この輝きは遠くの雪原にも広がっており、このあたり一帯は夢のような世界になっています。冬の季節、ときどき見られるこの光景は、心のキャンバスにしっかりと描き込まれました。

Waking up in a cold morning, something is glittering around here. Observing carefully, many ice particles are reflecting the morning sunshine. They are like many diamonds spreading all around the field. Snow field itself is quite beautiful. However looking at all these glittering treasures on the snow field is so much a fantasy. It's like many glittering stars on the Milky Way.
These glittering spreads all fields and hills around here, and creating a fantastic world.
Sometimes we can experience this fantastic world in the winter season. That beautiful scene is painted on the canvas in my heart.

和風庭園 Japanese mood garden

　私のお気に入りの散歩コースの中に、和風公園があります。正式名は吉峰「憩いの広場」だそうです。四季折々、その季節ごとの美しさを味わうことができるところです。
　春は、新緑の木々の合間をぬって流れる小川のせせらぎの中にたたずむ、水芭蕉の花を楽しむことができます。夏になると蝉の声のシャワーの中で、吹き抜けるあいの風をほほに感じつつ、森閑とした森の息吹を吸い込むことができます。秋は、黄色く染まった山々の中で、真っ赤に映えるもみじが、池の水面に姿を表します。
　残念ながら冬になると雪が一メートル近く積もるため、普通の長靴で行くことはできません。それでもかんじきをはいて雪の上を歩きつつ、この雪景色を眺めることができます。雪面に残されたたくさんの動物達の足跡に、思わず微笑みを浮かべてしまいます。
　皆さんも一度この吉峰の地に足を運んで、和風公園を楽しんでみてはいかがですか？

One of my favorite walking course is this Japanese mood garden. Covered by forest you can find an old fashined pond. Into there flows a comfortable stream from the mountain above. Beside the pond there is a hut for those who want to enjoy these beautiful view sitting down there.
In every season this place has its own beauty.
Spring, under the new leaves of the trees you can hear the murmuring of the stream, and there you can find neat and clean white flowers.
Summer, in the shower of cicadas' noise, you can breath something refreshing air flowing from the forest around.
Autumn, surrounded by the yellow colored mountains you can find bright red colored maple tree on the surface of this old pond.
Winter, you cannot reach there with the normal shoes. If you dare to go there with the snow shoes, also you can enjoy the snow covered beauty of this garden. There you can find many footmarks of the animals on the surface of snow field, and that will make you smile.
Anyway I invite you to enjoy this Japanese mood garden by yourself.

天高き秋　　high sky in autumn.

朝晩冷え冷えする今日このごろです。蝉の声はやみ、聞こえてくるのは虫の音ばかりです。
　「天高く馬肥ゆる秋」とはよくぞ言ったものです。秋の青空は特に高く感じますが、なぜでしょうか？特によく目にするのはすじ雲ですが、これはずいぶん高いところにあるように見えます。
　この天の高さに呼応して、庭の植物たちものびのびと背伸びしているかのようです。
　今年も紫式部の実がなりました。これは庭の草花の中でも際立って美しいです。その名の通りですね。
　我が家の庭に佇む草木の写真を見て楽しんで下さい。

Gradually cold air gets to be prevalent especially in the early morning. Now you can only hear sounds of autumn insects in the evening.
Japanese proverb says 'Autumn sky gets higher, and autumn horse gets fatter.' It's quite true because you may feel that the blue sky seems higher especially in autumn. Often you will find cirrus cloud high above the sky.
As this sky gets higher and higher, all plants in my house seem to stretch themselves higher and higher.
Now as you see in the photo in the head, Japanese beautyberry shows us its beautiful style. The beautiful purple color of this fruit surpasses all the other plants in my garden.

　最近猿の集団が家の周りによく来るようになりました。可愛い赤ちゃん猿を抱えて歩いている母子猿もよく見かけます。微笑ましいですね。
　猿というのは見てて面白いですね。彼らは集団で行動します。集団の中には、ボスがいて、見張りもいて、そういう猿たちに守られている、親子ザルがいます。一つの社会であり、組織があり、秩序があります。カモシカにしても熊にしても、うさぎにしてもリスにしても、ほとんどの動物たちは、基本は単独または単独家族で行動をしていますので、この猿が本当に特異であることが分かります。
　我々人間も、この組織的な、また秩序だった猿集団から学ぶことがことが大いにありそうです。

We sometimes welcome mokey group in my neighbourhood. Mother monkey walks with a cute baby monkey hanging around her body. What a lovely scene.
It's quite interesting to observe the behavior. They live their lives as a group. There is a boss monkey, and others watch and protect their group from enemies. In those protective shield, mothers carefully and peacefully bring up their cute baby monkeys. This is one society and one organization and there is an order. It's quite unique, because other animals - deers, bears, rabits, squirrels, all of them live alone or only with their family.
We as a human being can learn from their ordely society.

湧き上がる雲　　towering thunder cloud

暑い日になると、そびえ立つ山々から入道雲が巨人のように湧き上がってきます。しばらくすると、山全体を覆うかのような巨大な雲塊となります。何か圧倒されそうな雲です。全体が筋肉の塊みたいで、これから大暴れするぞ！と言っているみたいです。今にも雷の音と稲妻の閃光が迫ってきそうです。

　それとも、大爆発した火山のように見えますか？そのようにも感じます。いずれにしても、人智を超えた壮大な自然の強力な力の前に、ただただ自分の無力さを感じるのみです。

In hot days you often view towering thunder cloud swelling up behind mountains here. They soon grow up to cover whole mountain. Something overwhelmed. It's like whole cloud is made up of fully strong muscles, and now is to be violently breaking into the sky. Can you hear roaring thunder or see a flash of lightening?

Or you feel that it's like a volcano eruption? Yes it seems.

Anyway you may well feel powerless in front of this gigantic feature of nature.

新しい小径を造りました　　Making a new pathway

　裏の細長い庭に新しい小径を造りました。せっかくなので、2年前に作った「森の小径」にそのまま続くようにしました。
　今回は、引っ越しされた方が残していかれた細長い木材（足場板と言うそうです）を組み合わせて作ってみました。少し木材が足りなかったので、足場板を買い足して、無事完成です。
　高原の湿地帯などに行くと、よく見かける小径のように見えませんか？そういえば「はるかな尾瀬、野の小径」という歌詞の歌がありましたっけ。
　そんなわけで、この小径、「野の小径」と命名することにしました。
　作りたてだとまだまだ取ってつけたみたいな感じがしますが、日が経つに連れきっと庭に馴染んでくると思います。「森の小径」と同じように、道のサイドを、さりけない花壇風にしようかと思っています。
　暑い日中での道造りだったので、たっぷり汗をかいての仕事でしたが、終わった時の爽快感は心地よいものでした。ちょうど夕方の涼しい風に吹かれつつ、達成感を味わっていました。

I make a new pathway in my backyard. That connect to the 'forest pathway' which I made two years before.
This time I used some long boards whick my neighbor left before they move to the new place far away. I bought some same sized boards and can finish this pathway.
Do you sometimes see this kind of pathway when you walk along some wetlands of highlands. I know the same pathway in Oze Highlands in Japan. And Japanese famous song sings 'faraway Oze, the field pathway'.
So I decide to name this way 'field pathway'.
Because it is just made, it does not fit this field. Anyway gradually it may be like 'the field pathway' in Oze.
After hardworking under the sun, sweat flows from my forehead like a waterfall. Then comfortable cool wind pass through me, and I just feel finished.

花から実へ　　from flower to fruit

　春になって枯れ木から突然花を咲かせる梅や桜と異なり、野の植物は、最初に緑の葉が繁り、次に花を咲かせ、やがて実を結ぶようになります。この過程はとても魅力的なものです。成長のどのタイミングであっても、それぞれの過程での美しさを伴っています。
　例えば、ワイルドストロベリー。冬が過ぎ、暖かくなると、あの三枚の緑の葉がだんだんと大きくなってきます。やがて、可憐で清楚な白い花が咲いてきます。しばらくすると花の真ん中の黄色いところが膨らんできて、赤い色に変化してきます。そしてその赤い実が膨らんできて、おいしい実、甘酸っぱいいちごの実を食することができるようになります。そのころになると、根本から糸状のツルが伸びていって、あたり一帯にいちごの葉が広がっていきます。こうしていちご畑は繁殖していき、翌年も同じサイクルを繰り返して私たちに美味しい実をプレゼントしてくれます。
　ごく当たり前のように見えるこうしたサイクルは、よく考えてみると感動を覚えます。人がこうしたサイクルを生み出すことなど決して出来るものではありません。神からの贈り物と考えるなら感謝もひとしおです。

As warmer days continue, Ume trees and Cherry trees suddenly bloom their flowers. On the other hand normal plants on the ground gradually bloom their flowers. Their beauty continues in every step of the growth. Let me show about a wild strawberry as you see in the photoes.
As the cold season passes away, there appears tiny three fold leaves and they grow larger and larger. Thereafter you can find many pretty and lovely white flowers over the deep green leaves. Then the central yellowish part of these flowers gradually grow bigger and the yellow color changes into reddish color. The fruit of this strawberry gets ripen and now at last! you can eat it. Very tasty sour-sweet fruit makes our heart happy.
It seems quite natural and a matter of course, but meditate on it. Is this process amazing and impressive? No human technology can mimic this process. If you feel this as a gift from God, then you can appreciate anyway.

花々の季節 The season of flowers

梅の花が咲き、桜の花も咲き、そしてめまぐるしく春の花々が咲きほころび始めました。冬の間、じっと、まばたきもせずに、ひっそりと控えていた木々や植物が、ここぞとばかり力いっぱい背伸びをしているかのようです。うららかな日々が続くと、湧き上がるように芽や花や若葉が噴き出してきます。

　花々の勢いが増すほどに、雑草の勢いも増してきます。というわけで、昨今は、日々雑草を抜くことも怠りなくしています。ちょっと気を抜いたり、雨が続いたりすると、あっという間に一面雑草が伸び上がってきます。良きにつけ悪しきにつけ、活動的な季節です。

　一昨年完成した「森の小径」沿いの花壇や野菜畑も、今はすっかり馴染んでいます。頭上には、花の季節が終わりを告げた梅の木とぐみの木が、実をたわわに付けています。今年も豊作のような予感がします。

日だまりに桜よ梅よ伸び上がれ　　均子

As is always in this season, Japanese Ume flowers and cherry blossoms outbloom with many kind of flowers on the ground. Although they have just lived their lives in the depth of snow, now they stretch their hands and cry out to the sun. Buds, flowers and young leaves spring out from the ground as the weather gets milder and warmer.

Surely I enjoy this season with those trees and plants. However weeds also get their strength and I have to fight with them. Anyway I have to live an active and aggressive life nowadays.

'Forest pathway' in my garden becomes mature and matches the flowers and vegitables along the pathway. Over the pathway Japanese Ume tree and Goumi tree begin to flourish their fruit. Soon you can taste from them.

寒さも和らぎ、春めいてきた今日このごろです。とはいえ、4月になっても雪の降ることはこの辺りではめずらしくありません。
　我が家の止まり木が気に入っているのでしょうか、ヤマガラが春を待ちきれず数羽やってきています。「ちょっといい加減にしてください。もう時節は春なのに！」とでも叫んでいるかのようです。
　さすがにこの寒さで、あまり活発には動けないようです。何となくボーッとして、いつもの激しい動きはありません。早く春が来ないかなと、待ちわびているようですね。
　木々の芽はもう膨らんできています。もうすぐ一斉に花や葉が吹き出すことでしょう。

Although it gets a little warmer, it sometimes snows even in early April. Spring is at the doorstep.
Some varied tits come to my garden trees to take a rest at the perches. They seems to be fond of these trees. However looking at the cold snow falling down, they seems to say 'Oh the snow is enough. Isn't it already spring season?'.
It's too cold for them to have an active dance. They only stay at the perch and looking far away saying 'Hey please come spring!'.
Soon the spring will answer these cry of the birds, and all the flowers and leaves will sprout up.

わが家の向かいに大きな桜の木があります。その木に雪がまぶされると、まるで桜が咲いたかのようになります。桜の木の下にはおしゃれな街灯があって、夜、その光が放つイリュミネーションに雪桜が浮き出ると、どこかのレストランに来たかのような幻想的な雰囲気を醸し出してくれます。

　どうでしょう。なかなか良くないですか？

　蔵王の樹氷のようなわけにはいきませんけれども、うっすらと雪が木に積もった時の美しさもいいですし、こんもりと積もった時の雪景色も魅力的です。それぞれ、風景の味わいを見せてくれ、心をなごませてくれる今日このごろです。

You can find a large cherry tree in front of my door. When snow thinly covers it, then it's as if this cherry tree blossoms out. Especially at night the lamp post at the foot of the tree illuminate whole tree dimly and the sight is quite a fantasy. Is it nice?

Every time the snow covered the tree, it shows us a beautiful scene, when it snows thin or thick. It eases my heart.

　雪かきをして、疲れたからだを休めながら、たまった雪の山をぼんやりと眺めていると、ところどころ青白く見えるところがあります。まわりは薄暗くなりかけてきた夕方時分ですが、細い穴の中から青い光の発光体が光を放っているようにも見えます。とても幻想的です。それが雪の山に何箇所もあります。穴が空いているようなところはたいてい、穴の中からその幻想的な青白い光が放たれています。
　そんなことがあってから、ときどき雪かきをした後の雪を観察します。すると、やはりたいてい青い光をたくさん見ることができます。
　雪は奥深く、様々な美しさを内在していると思いませんか？

While I take a rest after after a hardworking of snow shovel, and looking around the piled snow mountain, I find several blue lightening holes in that pile. In the twilight of evening dusk it's quite a fantasy. It's like blue illuminations light itself from the bottom of each hole. How amazing and beautiful.
After my experience of this phenomenon, I often try to look intently to those piled snow mass, and very often I can find blue snow hole.
The beauty of snow is so multifaceted and versatile!

雪の造形　　snow molding

　雪が織りなす様々なデザインの造形には、目をみはるものがあります。もちろん、山全体をおおう雪景色も圧巻ですが、身近な庭の景色の中にも、雪の造形の美しさを感じます。
　何の変哲もない生け垣の竹。その一本の竹の上に、かわいい雪のふんわりした帽子ができました。もっと雪が降り続くと、そのうちかわいい帽子は、イギリスの近衛兵がかぶっているような、大きくてふんわりした帽子みたいになっていきます。

　秋に葉を落として枯れ木のようになった庭の梅や桜やもみじの木々にも、雪の造形がみられます。まるで、白い雪の花が、枝いっぱいに咲き乱れているみたいです。

It's part of fun in winter to see all the mountains covered by thick snow. And it's quite another pleasure to see ordinary things and trees in my garden change its feature into different mold.
You see some trivial bamboo hedge quite normal in Japan. As snow go on falling, snow makes some cute hat on the top of each bamboo. Then as snow further go on falling, the hat grows up so large that it's like a hat that a British Royal Guard puts on. It's quite unique.

I have some trees in my garden. As cold season comes by, all the leaves have gone and they become like dead woods. However as snow falls on these trees, you can see snow mold dead trees into active trees decorated by so many snow flowers. It's so miraculous.

今年も作りました、雪うさぎ　　Again this winter I make a snow-hare

雪が積もるとついつい作りたくなってしまう、雪うさぎ。今年も作っちゃいました。赤い目はセンリョウの実です。雪が降ってきたので、楽しくなって踊っているようです。今年はすでに２つも作ってしまいました。
　全体的に地元の人は、雪というと、あまり楽しくないようです。何しろ、ちょっと出かけたいと思っても、まず雪かきをしてからでないと、家から出られません。車を出そうと思っても、車の前には、除雪車が通ったあとに残した、岩のようなカチカチの雪を取り除かないと、道路に出て車を走らせることはできません。確かにそこだけ考えると悲しくなってくるのは、分からないわけではありません。
　でも私の場合雪が降ると楽しいことがいくつかあります。その１・雪が反射して外が明るくなります。明るいと希望が湧いてきます。その２・雪が覆われると暖かく感じます。その３・雪遊びができます。雪合戦、そり、スキー、かんじきで山歩き。その４・雪に覆われた景色はきれいです。汚れたものがすべて清められる感があります。
　いかがでしょうか？雪を楽しみませんか？

As the first snow falls, I'd like to make a snow-hare. Here I did as you see in the photo. The red eye is made by the small red fruit found at the plant beside my entrance door. This hare seems to be show pleasure by dancing as snow begins to fall. Oh! I've made two as you see below.
Many local people dislike snow falling because it disturbs daily life. It may be really heavy burden when you shovel heavy snow every morning.
However I like snow in many reason. First when the ground is covered by snow, the world gets brighter because it reflects light. Brightness brings hope. Second it becomes warmer when snow falls. Third you can play in many ways with snow, snowballing, making snowman or snow-hare, sledding, skiing, walkin along the snow covered hill etc. Fourth snow covered view is very beautiful. Snow covers whole dirty things.
How about enjoying with snow? It must be fun!

初冬の立山 Tateyama in early winter

青空にくっきりと白い姿を見せた立山の姿は、雄々しくもあり、美しくもあり、幻想的でもあります。ちょうど薄雲が、やわらかなベールのようにかかり、立山の美しさを際立たせています。
　じっと見ていると、何か崇高さと気高さと荘厳さに、圧倒されそうになります。
　立山の頂上付近は、夏のにぎわいも過ぎ、今や雪にすっぽりと覆われてしまいました。
　ふもとの山々も紅葉の季節が終わり、まもなく訪れる雪の季節に備えているようです。

The scene of Mt. Tateyama shows its figure in the blue sky beautifully and wonderfully and magically. It's veiled by the thin clouds and they emphasize the beauty of this mountain.
Looking intimately at this view, I feel as if I were overwhelmed by something lofty or noble or solemn.
Around the top of this mountain, thick snow seems to cover everything, including the memory of the bustling of the summer season.
