Burlesque troupe: 1995-2003

Robin Antin began exploring the idea of a modern burlesque troupe in 1993 with her friend Christina Applegate.[4][5] The dance troupe's first performance was in 1995. During this period, they performed with numerous guest vocalists, with a repertoire of 1950s and 1960s pop standards while dressed in lingerie or old-fashioned pin-up costumes. They secured a Thursday night residency at Los Angeles nightclub The Viper Room, where they stayed from 1995 - 2001. The troupe received wider press coverage in June 1999, when Playboy ran a Pussycat Dolls pictorial, featuring at least seven contemporary members. Three years later, the Dolls moved to The Roxy. The group became internationally popular and was featured in magazines, television specials for MTV and VH1, ad campaigns, and movies. Some of the Pussycat Dolls appeared in the 2003 film Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, dancing to "The Pink Panther Theme". They were also featured in Pink's "Trouble" music video. Along with Christina Applegate, Christina Aguilera, and Carmen Electra (who was the group's lead performer for many of their shows) the troupe was featured in a Maxim shoot in 2002,[6] which increased public interest in them. Following this wider popularity, and with the involvement of music producers Jimmy Iovine and Ron Fair, the Pussycat Dolls were re-cast, transformed into a pop recording group, and became employees of Iovine's label Interscope Records. The only troupe members who remained after the re-casting process was, Carmit Bachar no longer in PCD, Cyia Batten, Kasey Campbell, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta and Kimberly Wyatt. The main vocalists of the current recording group, lead singer Nicole Scherzinger and soprano Melody Thornton, were cast later in 2003 to complete the transition into a pop group. Electra, when asked about her lack of involvement with the group's evolution into a pop group, said: "I was part of the Dolls for over two years and did every show with them... but financially, I couldn't become part of their new music project... It was a sacrifice I couldn't make."[7] She later made a cameo appearance in the music video for "Don't Cha". In late 2003, Electra formed another burlesque troupe called The Bombshell Babies, which included ex-Dolls Staci Flood and Nadine Ellis, and later adding ex-Doll Kasey Campbell.

In parallel to Pussycat Dolls as a recording act, in April 2005 a resident live show commenced at the "Pussycat Dolls Lounge" adjacent to Pure Nightclub in Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas Strip. This show contains "cast members" who continue the burlesque-style show which began in Los Angeles in 1995. At least one early member of the L.A. dance troupe, Rachel Sterling, made the move to the Las Vegas show.[8] The cast includes vocalist Jamie Preston,[9] Hayley,[9] Amanda Nowak,[9] Colby,[10] and Alicia[9] Former dolls include Mallory,[11] Jen,[11] Loreli,[11] Victoria,[11] Rosa,[11] Marcea,[11] Rita,[11] Jessica Lea,[12] Rachel Sterling,[12] Laura Diane,[12] Laurel,[9], Cindy,[9] Ashley Gates,[9] Bridgy,[10] and Jamie Ruiz from Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious also joined the group.[10] between others. The venue is operated by Pure Management Group, Robin Antin has some involvement, but it is unclear whether Interscope also has a financial interest. The Pussycat Dolls recording group have made occasional appearances. In February 2007, Caesars Palace opened the Pussycat Dolls Casino located across from the Pussycat Dolls Lounge. It features "Dolls-style" decor and attire for the gaming staff, waitresses and dancers.

The Dolls returned to Los Angeles and the Viper Room from November 2008 for regular Friday and Saturday nights performances billed as the "Pussycat Dolls Lounge".[13] The shows feature former reality series alums Chelsea Korka and Jamie Ruiz.

The Pussycat Dolls are an American pop girl group, and dance ensemble founded by choreographer Robin Antin. The group originated in 1995 as a burlesque troupe based in Los Angeles, California. After attracting national attention, Antin eventually negotiated a record deal with Interscope Records in 2003, and the troupe was re-cast as a music group, comprising lead singer Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts, Kimberly Wyatt, Carmit Bachar. Subsequently the group also diversified into reality television programs, a Las Vegas act, venue, and casino, merchandising, and other ventures overseen by Antin, Interscope and their partners.

The Pussycat Dolls achieved worldwide success in 2005 with their album PCD, which debuted at number five on the U.S Billboard 200 Chart, and produced the hits "Don't Cha", "Buttons", and "Stickwitu", the latter of which earned the group a Grammy Award nomination. Following the departure of Carmit Bachar in March 2008, the group continued as a quintet, and in 2008, released their second studio album Doll Domination, which included the hits "When I Grow Up" and "I Hate This Part". Throughout their rise to fame, the group has been criticized for its overtly sexual image and explicit dance routines,[1] and for the over-emphasis on the lead singer Nicole Scherzinger, who sings nearly all of the group's lead and background vocals.[2][3]

The group was selected to open for Britney Spears on her spring 2009 arena tour.

- Some critics spoke, that group Pussycat Dolls as a matter of fact was your solo project, and all other girls were only "for appearance". So why you were solved on a separate solo album?
- I so do not think. For me was honour to be one of Pussycat Dolls - to take part in this group and to be in it in the foreground. But I never could make it in loneliness, it was break of all group, and I think, that each girl in group had a individual role. The youth concerns to us differently. I was glad to become in the chapter of group because much would be desirable to inform me up to girls who search own "I" so for me it was very important.
- Your solo creativity differs from creativity Pussycat Dolls?
- Pussycat Dolls had for me huge value, but I very much wished to write down own album because wished to show who I actually. I not always strong, fearless and self-confident as could seem. I was engaged in musical theatre, I always supported myself, and the internal voice always spoke me, that all necessarily happens, as I trust in it all heart. To tell the truth, when Eden's Crush has broken up, I even was delighted. I knew, that in the future other opportunity will be presented me. I think, that Pussycat Dolls were for me an ideal step before solo career. I always speak, that if the life gives you chance it is necessary to take advantage of this chance. After all these years when I tried to make a solo album (and I had to wait for it 10 years), I feel, as though at me all only begins. I concern to everything as to new, and I do not consider, that it is all a gift of destiny.
- You began the career in a rock group. At you any special attitude to a rock music, or you all the same would wish to secure the status R&B?
- I love music in general, all musical genres. I love classics, rock-and-roll, R&B, соул. I love a rock music but before singing in a rock group, I worked at musical theatre (is dared). I could include it in the album. I managed to try that I could not make, being in Pussycat Dolls. I speak about work, for example, with group Snow Patrol and records alternative fate-song " Just Say Yes ". Also I worked with Sting. I wrote down fate/Хї»-хоп-song with Timberland, and then worked above R&B with Ne-Yo and Eakon. For me, this all is identical; all repeats on one circle. In music I most of all like that it can be combined. Music now represents a mash of everything, as well as ourselves. In fact in me it is added a lot of different кровей - Hawaiian, Russian and Philippine.

I think, all in a life occurs not simply so, and I am glad, that as a result I can name these songs the . Everything of what I care, is to make music plausible and to enclose there all soul.
- It is pleasant to you Britney spears?
- It is heavy to judge people while itself it will not appear on their place. I do not like to judge others, but you in fact wish to know, whether I consider, what Бритни now in the best form? No, I do not consider! I wish people that they always were in the best physical, mental and spiritual form. And Britney spears now not in the best form. I wish it all most good, I wish it to return to the form and it is good to care of the children. I think, that this most important. All rest already again.
- Earlier in interview you spoke, that you have some girlfriends. How you consider, girls envy you?
- Sometimes, but I like the present people. I the spiritual person, I am very religious. My grandfather was the priest so I have grown this environment. It has made me such what I am now. Sometimes happens hard to find people whom you interest simply as the person, therefore I have a small group of friends - we inspire each other, we cheer each other up, and this everything, that it is necessary for me. It is not obligatory to be friends of all and to do all happy, trying very much.

Hey everyone

I hope you love the new song!!!!! by the way, its definitely groupies, not boobies. Although most girls want boobies when they grow up too so i guess either would work. haha I've been having so much fun doin lots of tv shows and performing. The video was such a crazy experience!!!! We shot for two days and the second day started at 8am and we didn't finish the last big dance sequence until 6am the next morning!!! It was insane watching the sun come up and dancing my heart out.

I've been doin my best to eat right and work out and everything. I'm telllin you.....when u dance like we do and sing and do shows often you have to watch yourself. Its just like being an athlete. Well, we are athletes. There is no faking it, you have to take care of yourself. So I've been training with a trainer three times a week and i just started hiking on my off days.It just feels so good to work out outside. its the biggest stress reliever for me. That and listening to music and driving through the canyons with all the windows rolled down and the moon roof open. I love having everything open, Even when its too hot ill keep the windows down and run the air-conditioner on high.

For those of you that watched Celebracadabra....thank you!!! i had a lot of fun doing the show and learning magic. There were some very stressful moments too. I think my favorite moment was doing the bottle trick successfully. It was incredible to work with the leopard!!! i rolled around on the ground and played with it backstage!!! i could tell just by playing with him that he was super strong. it was kind of scary but such a rush to be so close to such a large cat! it was too bad that i didn't win but it was fun to do the chair levitation on the movie awards!! did you catch that????
