The lemon grass oil also injects natural fluidity into the brittle palm leaves and the hydrophobic nature of the oil keeps the manuscripts dry so that the text is not lost to decay due to humidity.
East-Indian Lemon Grass (Cymbopogon flexuosus), also called Cochin Grass or Malabar Grass (Malayalam: ഇഞ്ചിപ്പുല്ല്ല്ല്‌(inchippull), is native to Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, Burma, and Thailand while the West-Indian lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus), also known as serai in Malay, is assumed to have its origins in Malaysia. Indonesian people used to called it serai too or sereh. While both can be used interchangeably, C. citratus is more suited for cooking. In India C. citratus is used both as a medical herb and in perfumes. Cymbopogon citratus is consumed as a tea for anxiety in Brazilian folk medicine,[3] but a study in humans found no effect.[4] The tea caused a recurrence of contact dermatitis in one case.[5]

Lemon grass is also known as "Gavati Chaha" in the Marathi language(Gavat-grass; chaha-tea), and is used as an addition to tea,and in preparations like 'kadha' which is a traditional herbal 'soup' against cough, cold etc. It has medicinal properties and is used extensively in ancient Indian Ayurvedic medicines. It is supposed to help with relieving cough and nasal congestion.

Anti-cancer properties

In 2006 a research team from the Ben Gurion University in Israel found that lemon grass (cymbopogon citratus) caused apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells. Through in vitro studies, the researchers examined the effect of citral, a molecule found in lemon grass, on both normal and cancerous cells. Using concentrations of citral equivalent to the quantity in a cup of tea (one gram of lemon grass in hot water), the researchers observed that citral induces programmed cell death in the cancerous cells, while the normal cells were left unharmed

Correct Time To Take Water

Correct timing to take water, will maximize its effectiveness to Human body.

Two (02) glass of water - After waking up - Helps activate internal organs

One (01) glasses of water - 30 minutes before meal - Help digestion

One (01) glass of water - Before taking a bath - Helps lower blood pressure

One (01) glass of water - Before sleep - To avoid stroke or heart attack

Get Stronger With Healthy Food

A healthy food regime consists of good nutritional diet that supplements the basic need of body. It supplies the appropriate amount of energy and sufficient raw materials to keep the body healthy. It also provides anti-oxidants that make people feel young and be proud of looking great. Having fair idea of why the body requires healthy food, the next thing is to know more about healthy food and eating methods of healthy food, in order to attain stronger body.

Healthy Food for Stronger Body:

Food in natural state: The food helps to build stronger body. Fresh fruits, apples and berries are good for satisfying the desire for sweets. Vegetables of all kinds such a green, yellow and orange are rich in vitamins and minerals. Steamed vegetables retain the nutritional value of the vegetables. Avoid calorie rich sauces and fats. High calorie foods are not good for health.

Fish, Chicken and Meat: To attain a stronger body, serve seafood two or three times a week. Ocean fish consists of essential fatty acids that are usually deficient in the healthy diet. Prefer baked chicken and fish rather than fried ones. The lean meat such as venison or bison is healthier than beef, which is rich in fat.

Processed bacon, lunchmeat, sausages and hot dogs contain plenty of junk, which the body does not require. Even if anybody wants to have such meats, then probably they can go for healthier versions that are available at health food departments.

Avoid Non-nutritional food: White bread and noodles are made of flour that is not good for health. The flour does not contain nutritional content. Moreover, the high starch content of white bread affects the sugar level of the blood quicker than a regular sugar. In addition, sugary pastries and snacks, apple pie are non-nutritional items, which are not good for health. It is essential that pasta or baked items have to be made from whole grains.

Benefits of Variety in Food & Water:

Some people are very much sensitive to frequently eaten food. Therefore, such people have to break the habit and start eating a variety in food to achieve stronger body. Consume various kinds of grains. Spelt is a better substitute for wheat. Prefer to have almond or rice milk rather than cow's milk. People have to eat variety of food even if they do not like it.

Drink plenty of water and limit beverages such as soft drinks. If individuals are tired of drinking plain water, add some lime or lemon slice to it. Serve kids with some fruit juice with carbonated water. Even green and herbal tea can be good substitute for water. However, avoid excess of caffeine.

Avoid Skipping Meals:

Skipping breakfast brings down the energy level by midmorning. It is better to split the breakfast in half than skipping it. It helps greatly by eating breakfast early such as oatmeal, egg or whole grain bread. Snacks such as almonds and raisins also benefit the health greatly. The split breakfast provides better solution than going for candy bars or coffee, and retains the energy level to feel good and fresh.

Healthy Food List

During a time when childhood and adult obesity along with fast-food lifestyles are two issues of great concern and importance to the overall health and future of the nation, it is vital that individuals and families have a healthy food list to ensure proper nutrition and avoid unnecessary weight gain. Rather than going through the drive through at the nearest burger joint, try preparing meals at home. Although at-home meals may take more time and energy, they are well worth the effort and the benefits certainly outweigh any inconveniences that at-home meals may pose. When shopping for meals to make at home it is important to know what foods are nutritious and which foods are simply empty calories. While eating at home is healthier than the fast food alternative, knowing the right foods to buy is essential to a healthy diet.

Items on a healthy food list include vegetables, fruit, low-fat dairy products, beans and legumes, grains, nuts and seeds, seafood, poultry and other lean meats. These items include, but are not limited to:

• Vegetables: asparagus, carrots, green peas, kale, mushrooms, potatoes, spinach, squash, tomatoes and yams

• Fruit: apples, blueberries, cranberries, oranges, pears, pineapple, raspberries and watermelon

• Low-fat dairy products: low-fat or no-fat cheese, 1% or skim milk, yogurt

• Beans and Legumes: black beans, lima beans, navy beans, pinto beans

• Grains: brown rice, corn, oats, whole wheat

• Nuts and Seeds: cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, walnuts

• Seafood: salmon, scallops, shrimp, tuna

• Poultry and other lean meats: chicken, turkey, venison

Organically grown foods are recommended for promoting health, and whole grain foods are generally healthier than processed foods. If bland taste is a concern, there are many healthy herbs and spices that can be used to add flavor and pizazz to any food. Herbs and spices include but are not limited to:

• Cayenne pepper
• Chili powder
• Cinnamon
• Curry powder
• Ginger
• Garlic
• Rosemary
• Thyme

It is important when shopping to have a food list handy. Having meals and recipes determined beforehand will help shoppers limit their food purchases to only those items on the list. This will assist in curbing the desire to buy unhealthy foods, including snacks. The list alone is not enough as the shopper must exert willpower and control while shopping. The individual must also exercise willpower in restricting fast foods from their diets.

Creating and sticking to a healthy food list is one of the best ways to begin and set a foundation for not only healthy eating but healthy living. Many people feel that eating healthy is expensive and not within their budget. While some organic foods can be a little more costly, there should be a healthy alternative from which to choose so that your diet won't bust your belt or your wallet.

Healthy Eyesight

Have you ever walked out of the optometrist’s office with a new prescription for glasses and contacts, only to be utterly amazed at what you can actually and suddenly see? You notice all the details you never noticed before, the colors, the textures, even how sharp and in focus everything is.

It is admittedly a neat surprise. But did you know that there are nutritional supplements that specifically support wonderful healthy eyes and possibly prevent debilitating diseases of the eye, such as macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma. There are nutrients that can stop or relieve some of these more common vision problems that we can experience, especially as we age.

The eye is a delicate organ and the components that it contains, such as the lens, retina and macula are prone to free-radical attack. They can be protected with the super-powerful antioxidants like Vitamin C and Vitamin E. If you have a history of cataracts, macular diseases, glaucoma, or other age-related eye problems in your family, you should definitely read on as we give a run-down on the specific vitamin and mineral supplements that could aid in preserving your ever-so-precious eyesight. And if you smoke, have poor nutrition generally, or your eyes are not adequately protected from extensive exposure to sunlight, that goes double.

We will start with the powerhouse antioxidants. Besides doing so many extremely positive things for your body, Vitamin C will gobble up the free radicals as they attempt to attack the sensitive parts of your eyes. The lucky people who have not had trouble with cataracts are simply 60% more likely to have sufficient levels in their systems compared to the unlucky ones with cataract problems. It's the anti-oxidant powers at work. This clouding of the lens that can lead to blindness is something you can protect yourself against. Since our levels of Vitamin C decline as we age, bless your healthy eyes with a supplement of Vitamin C. How about just an extra 250 mg per day?

Several vitamins work in combination with each other to protect your eyes, especially the lens. Another awesome supplement to consider is Vitamin A, which can also be known as Retinol, and can really benefit your night vision. It is involved in forming and maintaining the skin cells that make up your eyes, as well as your mouth, nose, throat, lungs, digestive and urinary tract. The extremely delicate blood vessels in your eyes can be easily damaged by free radicals. An adequate supply of Vitamin E can help prevent this damage, and protect your lens as well. If you have low levels of Vitamin E, you are simply more likely to develop eye problems, such as cataracts. It is a no-brainer to easily cut your risk in half by supplementing with extra Vitamin E. Who needs cataracts?

Your eyes have a natural supply of zinc in them, and most of it is centered in the retina. Well guess where the eye disease macular degeneration is centered – the retina! So it follows that if you do not have enough zinc in your system, serious eye problems, or blindness can happen. Zinc supplements have been shown to reduce or prevent the vision loss of macular degeneration.

Luteine is another front-line defender of healthy eyes, and is well-known for its benefits to preserve vision, and especially important if your eyes are exposed to ultraviolet rays from the sun repeatedly or for long periods of time. It is an anti-oxidant as well, and is another protector of the sensitive cells of the macula, which is the part of the eye responsible for good sharp vision. You may want to consider supplementing with luteine.

And, finally, let’s not forget bilberry. You may never have heard of this Scandinavian plant that is very similar to blueberries and very high in healthful flavenoids. Supplementing with bilberry could be your best hedge against night blindness. If you really can’t see well in dim light, or your eyes suffer from glare, you need to give this a try. It could make a big difference.

More than 25 million people live with vision problems, vision loss and blindness. Treatments can be expensive, risky or not effective at all. Good healthy vision is one of the most priceless gifts you have, so bless your vision all you can by educating yourself on the vitamins and minerals that can relieve, slow down or even prevent serious eye diseases and vision loss. To maintain and promote your own healthy vision is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.

Good health supplements to take

When it comes to minerals we don't hear much about the need for supplementing from the mainstream media. If there is any mention at all minerals are often downplayed or maligned as being dangerous and deadly if you listen to the latest test results. Unfortunately most of those tests are sponsored and approved by pharmaceutical companies whose main interest is in promoting their own drugs despite the serious side effects they have. As they see the increasing use of all supplements as a threat to their profit margin, they look for anything to downplay vitamin and mineral supplementation.

But the fact is that many people simply do not meet the RDA requirements for good health, even though those requirements are already at minimum levels.

Since what we eat is highly processed and lacks essential minerals and combined with the lack of those minerals in produce that has been grown on farms whose soil is depleted of nutrients along with the added pesticides, herbicides and chemical treatments the food is given, we all need to supplement on a daily basis. Supplementation is not a luxury. It has become necessary.

A lack of adequate minerals can lead to serious health problems similar to what occurs among diabetics. The delicate nerves in the feet and our eyes are particularly vulnerable to a lack of essential nutrients. While we know that scurvy is due to a lack of vitamin C, we don't realize that without adequate levels of this important vitamin, we are prone to slow healing of wounds and cuts. Diabetics are exceptionally low on vitamin C levels. Cuts do not heal and ultimately lead to foot ulcers, gangrene and the amputation of the foot.

So what supplements should you be taking now to help you maintain health and avoid complications? Let's have a look at some of the most important minerals:

Chromium: 90% of Americans do not get the recommended 50mcg (micrograms) of chromium a day. The Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences considers 50 to 200 mcg to be necessary. And if you are diabetic you need at least 200 to 400 mcg a day.

Chromium works with insulin in helping open cell membranes to accept glucose. Without it, insulin's action is blocked. It improves glucose tolerance and decreases cholesterol and triglyceride levels as well as raises the HDL, the good cholesterol.

Cheese, legumes, beans, peas, whole grains and molasses are good sources of chromium. You can take both Chromium GTF or chromium picolinate.

Magnesium: Low intake of magnesium is a major risk factor in retinopathy. Blindness and heart disease are linked to a lack of magnesium. The RDA recommendation for healthy men and women is 350 mg and 300 mg respectively. Between 300 to 600 mg is considered ideal. Unfortunately the average American gets a low 143 to 266 mg per day.

Like chromium, magnesium is involved in glucose metabolism. Supplementation has been shown to improve insulin response, glucose tolerance and improve the fluidity of red blood cell membranes in diabetic patients. Most magnesium comes from seeds, nuts, legumes, tofu and green leafy vegetables. Take magnesium aspartate or magnesium citrate which are easily absorbed. For better absorption you should also take 25 mg of Vitamin B-6 daily.

Potassium: It's the major mineral inside all cell membranes. Sodium is found outside of those cell membranes and it's believed that the ratio of sodium to potassium is off-kilter in most people and is one of the reasons why insulin cannot act to open the cell doors to accept glucose. We consume far too much sodium.

High potassium diets have been shown to lower the risk of cancer and heart disease and even help to lower blood pressure. Plant foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains are the best sources of potassium.

Manganese: Animals deficient in manganese have lower insulin output. It functions in many enzyme systems including those involved in blood sugar control and thyroid hormone function. Good sources are whole grains, fruits and nuts, provided they are grown on well fertilized soil. A good daily dose of manganese is between 3 to 5 mg.

Zinc: This important mineral has a lot to do with various functions of the body from sexual development to immune functioning and maintenance of nerve tissue. Zinc deficiency leads to loss of appetite, susceptibility to infection, poor wound healing and skin disorders. It helps protect against the destruction of beta cells of the pancreas which occurs in many type 1 diabetics. Good sources of zinc are shell fish, organ meats, fish, pumpkin seeds, ginger root, nuts and seeds.

While these nutrients are especially important for diabetics, they are still necessary even if you are currently healthy. Most of the benefits are reductions in the risk of developing some disease or other. These benefits are the reason why you should stop smoking. They wont in themselves help you stop smoking but they will provide you with motivation to go on and learn how to stop smoking successfully.

Stop smoking benefit #1: When you smoke, the cocktail of hot gases and chemicals found in cigarette smoke damages your body. There are 4,000 of them in all! As a result, if you fall ill, you take longer to recover and/or heal. Stopping smoking will significantly improve your ability to fight disease.

Stop smoking benefit #2: Smoking causes damage to your mouth and gums. Smokers are more likely to suffer from 'acute necrotising and ulcerative gingivitis' (diseased gums) which increases the risk of tooth loss and gives you bad breath amongst other things. Urgh!

Stop smoking benefit #3: Smokers are 20 times more likely to suffer from angina than non-smokers.

Stop smoking benefit #4: Want to keep your eyesight? Smokers run twice the risk of developing cataracts when compared to non-smokers. Smokers are also more likely to develop type 2 diabetes and therefore diabetic retinopathy - the degeneration of the retina, leading to blindness. They are also twice as likely to suffer from macular degeneration of the eyes and amblyopia (loss of sight).

Stop smoking benefit #5: Hey stud! Men who smoke increase the risk suffering from erectile dysfunction, reduced ejaculate volume, reduced sperm counts and deformed, damaged or dead sperm. Basically, smoking is a good way to increase your chances of being impotent! Reduce your risks by stopping smoking as soon as possible.

Stop smoking benefit #6: Hey good looking! Smokers run twice the risk of suffering from psoriasis and skin wrinkling. Free radicals found in cigarette smoke damage skin tissues and reduce their elasticity more rapidly than non-smokers. This is why long-term smokers tend to look older and have a poorer complexion than non-smokers.

Stop smoking benefit #7: Cancer anyone? Smokers run an elevated risk of developing lung cancer. They also have a disproportionately high risk of developing throat, oesophageal, bladder, kidney, stomach, pancreatic, mouth and tongue and lip cancers!

Stop smoking benefit #8: 45% of all duodenum or stomach ulcers are found in smokers. Nicotine interacts with the parasympathetic nervous system (the automatic bit) and relaxes the stomach sphincters, allowing stomach excess into the oesophagus (heartburn) and the duodenum.

Stop smoking benefit #9: An aortic aneurism is the ballooning of the aorta which can result in it rupturing which leads to massive internal bleeding and quick, certain death. Smokers suffer 57% of all aortic aneurisms.

Stop smoking benefit #10: Stick around! Did you know that people who smoke between 1 and 14 cigarettes per day are 8 times more likely to die early when compared to non-smokers.. Smokers on 15 to 25 cigarettes per day are 13 times more likely to die early compared to non-smokers. Smokers who smoke over 25 cigarettes per day are 25 times more likely to die early!

Finally, there is a Japanese proverb that says "fall down seven times, get up eight". Stopping smoking is just like that too. You have to keep trying to stop. My advice as ever is never quit trying to quit.

So stop now...visit here

Breast Cancer and Safe Screening Awareness

There is a tool available today to help identify the conditions and diseases that could be going on inside you, without symptoms and seemingly harmless. If your a woman that has concerns about breast cancer, this technology is for you. It could quite literally save your breasts, and your life.

When the normal function of your body goes dysfunctional, your body will try to heal itself through natural processes. If these processes fail, this is when symptoms develop and at which point most of us realize we need help. Especially when the symptoms affect our lives or even threaten them. The key is to get a heads-up when your body is going through some abnormal changes years before any discernible symptoms develop, thereby avoiding any potential danger.

Unfortunately, the conventional medicine community is keeps holding on to old ideas of cancer detection and treatment, not matter the proven ineffectiveness. Breast detection methods used by mainstream medicine include mammography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and PET scans. Awareness and education of a better, less risky, more effective options for detecting breast cancer are sorely lacking.

Concerning conventional breast cancer screening, it is recommended that all women over 40 get mammogram every one to two years, yet there is no solid evidence that mammorgrams save lives, and the benefits are a bit controversial. In fact, the health hazards of mammography have been well established.

The routine practice of taking four films of each breast annually results in approximately 1 rad exposure, and that is about 1,000 times greater than that from a chest x-ray. In case you havn't heard, radiation is not something to play around with. X-rays and other classes of ionizing have been a proven cause of virtually all types of biological mutations, and are an established cause of genomic instability, a characteristic of the most aggressive cancers.

Reducing exposure to medical radiation with unnecessary mammograms makes good sense, considering the high percentage of false reads, which unfortunately leads many women to have an unnecessarily mastectomy or harmfully treated with more radiation or chemotherapy. Mammography has its value, but there are other technologies that are proven to be more effective, less expensive, and completely harmless. A win-win situation.

What is an option that is safe and can give as much as 10 years warning of something about to develop? It is called thermal imaging, or thermography, which has the ability to detect problems early enough to use preventive choices, versus detecting disease at the stage where treatment is required. Thermography finding are the single most important indicator of high risk for breast cancer. The increased percentage survival rate is astounding when compared with other methods.

How does thermography work? It is basically infrared thermal imaging which detects irregular heat patterns which precedes a breast lump. A healthy body is thermally symmetrical, therefore both breasts that are healthy, the blood flow will show nearly identical patterns. Thermography is able to detect if something is awry by different vascular patterns, which can be an indicator of something wrong. The surface temperature of the breast increases as the body tries to feed the cancer tissue. Heat differentiation in the body is an indicator of disease, hence this principle applies most significantly in regard to breast cancer detection.

Ladies, thermography is non-invasive, painless, and risk-free. Prevention is the best cure.

Jonathan Bell has many years of extensive study in the area of natural cancer prevention and treatment. He has numerous success stories of people being diagnosed living cancer free with use of alternative methods.

Money Vs Health

Still, the 60-year-old Somerville resident, who friends say had just canceled his health insurance because of the tough economy, debated from a hospital emergency room whether he should stay and run up thousands of dollars in debt, or take antibiotics from home and hope they arrested the mysterious infection in his leg.

Fearing he could lose his home and flooring business, Abrams chose to leave Somerset Medical Center after a hospital physician said staying would "run him a lot of money," said Connie Dodd, a close friend who drove him to the hospital and heard the conversation. "I begged him to stay. But Dan’s a proud man. Talk of all the bills got him scared."

When Connie and her partner, Cindy Weiss, brought Abrams dinner the next night, July 29, they found his lifeless body in bed. Weiss performed CPR but it was too late. "It was a nightmare," Dodd said.

For people without health insurance, few things are more intimidating than the arrival of a hospital bill.

Nowhere is the sticker shock worse in the country than in New Jersey, according to health experts and a new report by the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute, a prominent health care policy group based in Trenton.

New Jersey’s hospital "charges" — the price list used to negotiate the cost of a bill for the uninsured and for insured people who use a hospital outside their network — are four times higher than the actual cost of treating a patient.

For thousands, the charges mean astronomical bills after a hospital stay. Insurers contend they also force higher premiums for anyone with health insurance.

More than 40,000 uninsured New Jerseyans this year will get a bill based on these inflated prices because they make too much money to qualify for financial aid for their hospital stay, according to an estimate by the New Jersey Hospital Association. Nobody tracks how many insured people get hit with bigger bills for using out-of-network hospital care.

Because the charges are used to negotiate prices of everything from treating pneumonia to removing a gall bladder, they inflate health insurance premiums, according to the largest health insurance company in the state, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield. And there is no way to know how many people, like Abrams, decline hospital care when confronted with even the possibility of a big hospital bill, said David Knowlton, the institute’s president and CEO.

"Patients forced to pay the charge rate or anywhere close to it are getting screwed,’’ he said.

Hospital executives say the vast majority of the 1.3 million uninsured people in New Jersey never pay the full sticker price. Charges are used as a negotiating starting point, said Betsy Ryan, president and CEO for the New Jersey Hospital Association. "I think most hospitals would be willing to talk to most people about reasonable rates," Ryan said.

With nine hospitals closing and six filing for bankruptcy in the last two years, Ryan said, "Clearly, New Jersey hospitals are not getting rich on charges. Half of the remaining hospitals are losing money.’’

The institute has compiled a database of hospital charges for 20 common treatments and surgeries to demystify, and, Knowlton hopes, persuade lawmakers to change what he says are morally questionable billing practices.

Knowlton, who chairs Gov.-elect Chris Christie’s transition team for the Department of Health and Senior Services, said he’ll ask for laws to bring charges closer to real costs.

"I’m not beating up on hospitals. But I am holding them accountable,’’ he said.

National health care economist Graham Atkinson said the institute’s concerns are well-founded. New Jersey hospital charges are 4.1 times higher than what it costs to treat patients — far exceeding the national average of 2.8 times above cost, he said, based on American Hospital Association data. New York hospitals charges are a bit lower than the national average.

"The charge practices of hospitals generally, and particularly in New Jersey, are really unconscionable," said Atkinson.

While hospitals negotiate down from the charge price, the system is needed to help them recoup losses elsewhere, said Sean Hopkins, senior vice president of health economics for the New Jersey Hospital Association. New Jersey hospitals get an average of 89 cents for every dollar spent on Medicare, 66 cents for every Medicaid dollar, and 42 cents on the dollar for charity care patients, he said.

"A hospital will look for every opportunity to strike a deal with a payer to pay them cost or cost-plus, to generate a bottom line, just as any merchant would,’’ Hopkins said.

State Health and Senior Services Commissioner Heather Howard said she is not overly concerned about the impact of charges because few people actually pay them.

Just over half of New Jerseyans get their health coverage from the government — Medicare, for the elderly, and Medicaid for the poor, and charity care for the working poor.

And she stressed a law that took effect in February protects thousands of uninsured middle-class residents — who don’t qualify for other programs — from huge hospital bills.

For example, someone in an uninsured family of three that has an income of $54,930 to $88,000 would pay about $15,000 for a gall bladder surgery — far less than the $85,502 sticker price at Capital Health System’s Fuld campus in Trenton.

"We attacked this problem and provided substantial protection for people well above the average income,’’ Howard said.

The law leaves about 40,000, or 4 percent of the roughly 1 million patient visits at hospital each year subject to the much higher "charge" rate, Hopkins estimated.

Private insurance companies that cover 43 percent of the state’s population set rates by negotiating with hospitals. Jim Albano, vice president for health care services at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, said the high charges drive up premiums for everybody.

In addition, most insurance policies allow people to use hospitals that are out of the insurer’s network. Often, employees pick up 20 percent to 30 percent of the costs, Albano said. "That 20-30 percent people are paying is based on charges or something near charges,’’ he said.

The report also shows the charges at some hospitals can be dramatically higher than at others for the same procedures.

An uninsured stroke patient could receive a bill no higher than $35,000 from Morristown Memorial Hospital. But it inflates to $44,000 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, $57,000 at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston and $114,417 from the Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center in Secaucus, according to the report. The institute gave The Star-Ledger access to the report prior to publishing it today on its website, www.howsyourhealthnj.org.

The uninsured patient in Central Jersey could expect the top price for back surgery at Somerset Medical Center to run about $49,000. But it’s cut nearly in half to $26,000 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan, just a 30-minute car ride away. In four categories — treating strokes, blood clots in the lungs, congestive heart failure and hip fractures — Hunterdon’s charges were the cheapest in the state.

Knowlton said he hopes the report becomes the hospital equivalent of the Kelley Blue Book for price-conscious car buyers. "This is a new tool in the consumer’s tool belt, to allow you to go to the hospital and say ‘This is your charge; your competitors in spitting distance from you charge this. What can you do for me?’" he said.

In the 1980s, New Jersey was one of a few states that regulated hospital charges, said Knowlton, who helped create the rules as deputy health commissioner under Gov. Thomas Kean, Facing pressure from suburban hospitals, the state deregulated the system in 1992-93, he said.

Knowlton said the current health care debate has not tackled the issue of cost in the system and wants state lawmakers to take it on. He won’t get an argument from Dan Abrams’ family and friends, who, four months after his death, remain angry.

Connie Dodd said she believes Abrams would still be alive if he wasn’t scared off by hospital bills. "We need universal health care,’’ Dodd said. "What will it take — for everyone to lose a friend or family member this way?’’

Vicky Allen, a spokeswoman for Somerset Medical Center, declined to discuss the case, except to offer "our deepest sympathy to the family of Daniel Abrams on their recent loss. We want to assure our community that we provide emergency care to everyone, regardless of whether or not they have health insurance or are able to pay for their care. If a patient is unable to pay for care, information about financial assistance through our charity care program is provided.’’

Pressure Test

PLEASE CHECK YOUR PRESSURE IF YOU SEE THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT OF THE PICTURES.

Attached are non-animated pictures. They are used to relate to your pressure level . If you see them moving , then that means you have pressure. The speed of the movement is the level of your pressure. The higher that moving speed, the higher pressure you have.

Most chidren and old men only see static pictures and not moving. If you see the pattern moving in a slow motion, that means you have a bit pressure at this moment .

Test yourself reqularly with these pictures to know yourself better. Sometimes, it is good to have an appropriate pressure to push us to do better, but too much pressure can push us to the end of the edge resulting in sickness.

Please calm yourself if you see those patterns moving fast.

During a recent raid on a wholesale centre in Guangzhou city, the capital of China's Guangdong province, a large quantity of fake eggs was seized.

Their wholesale price is 0.15 yuan (S$0.03) each - half the price of a real egg.Consumers have a hard time telling a genuine egg from a fake one. This is good news for unscrupulous entrepreneurs, who are even conducting three-day courses in the production of artificial eggs for less than S$150.

A reporter with Hong Kong-based Chinese magazine East Week enrolled in one such course. To create egg white, the instructor - a woman in her 20s - used assorted ingredients such as gelatin, an unknown powder, benzoic acid, coagulating material and even alum, which is normally used for industrial processes.

For egg yolk, some lemon-yellow colouring powder is mixed to a liquid and the concoction stirred. The liquid is then poured into a round-shaped plastic mould and mixed with so-called 'magic water', which contains calcium chloride. This gives the 'yolk' a thin outer membrane, firming it up. The egg is then shaped with a mould.

The shell is not forgotten. Paraffin wax and an unidentified white liquid are poured onto the fake egg, which is then left to dry.The artificial egg can be fried sunny-side up or steamed. Although bubbles appear on the white of the egg, those who have tasted it say the fake stuff tastes very much like the real thing.

But experts warn of the danger of eating fake eggs. Not only do they not contain any nutrients, a Hong Kong Chinese University professor warned that long-term consumption of alum could cause dementia.

more info...GET HERE

SLEEPING WITH LIGHT ON MAY CAUSE CANCER

KIDS who sleep with the light on could risk leukaemia, parents were warned.

Scientists have found the body needs darkness to produce a chemical that fights cancer. Even switching the light on for the toilet, staying up late, ravelling across time zones, or the light from street lamps can stop enough melatonin being made, they say. The body needs the chemical to prevent damage to DNA and its absence stops fatty acids reaching tumours and preventing them growing.

Texas University Prof Russell Reiter, who led the research, said: "Once you go to bed you should not even switch the light on for a minute. "Your brain immediately recognises the light as day and melatonin levels drop." Rates of childhood leukaemia have doubled in the past 40 years. About 500 youngsters under 15 are diagnosed with the disease each year and around 100 die.

A conference on childhood leukaemia in London yesterday heard that people were being subjected to more light at night than ever. This suppressed the production of melatonin which normally happens between 9pm and 8am. Past research has shown those most affected, like shift workers, had higher levels of breast cancer. Blind people, who are not vulnerable to fluctuations of melatonin, have lower rates of cancer, it was found. Parents are advised to use dim red or yellow bulbs if their youngsters are scared of the dark.

more info..CLICK HERE

Do not re-use mineral water bottles

Binomial name
Parkia speciosa

Parkia speciosa (petai, twisted cluster bean, yongchaak or stink bean), is a plant of the genus Parkia in the family Fabaceae. It bears long, flat edible beans with bright green seeds the size and shape of plump almonds which have a rather peculiar smell, characterised by some as being similar to that added to methane gas.[1]

They are an acquired taste, but are popular in southern Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Indonesia and North-eastern India and are sold in bunches, still in the pod, or the seeds are sold in plastic bags. They are exported in jars or cans, pickled in brine. Depending on the country of origin they may be labelled peteh, petai, yongchaak or sataw (sometimes spelled sator). They are best when combined with other strong flavoured foods such as garlic, chile peppers, and dried shrimp, as in "sambal petai" or added to a Thai curry such as Thai Green Curry of Duck.

When young the pods are flat because the seeds have not yet developed, and they hang like a bunch of slightly twisted ribbons, pale green, almost translucent. At this stage they may be eaten raw, fried or pickled. Young tender pods with undeveloped beans can be used whole in stir fried dishes. In North-eastern India, the seeds are dried and seasoned for later consumption. When dried the seeds turn black.

Petai beans or seeds look like broad beans. Petai has earned its nickname 'stink bean' because its strong smell is very pervasive. Like mature broad beans, they may have to be peeled before cooking. It lingers in the mouth and body. Like asparagus, it contains certain amino acids that give a strong smell to ones urine, an effect that can be noticed up to two days after consumption. Like other beans, their complex carbohydrates can also cause strong-smelling flatulence.

The petai tree can grow to about 90 feet (30 metres). It bears flowers in a light-bulb shaped mass at the end of long stalks. The flowers secrete a nectar that attract bats and other pollinators. The tiny flowers mature and die. Long, twisted, translucent pods emerge in a cluster of 7 or 8 pods. When those pods are mature, within them will reside the petai beans or seeds.
According to some research, eating petai as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%.[citation needed]

Little did you know ...... after reading THIS, you'll NEVER look at petai in the same way again!

Petai contain three natural sugars -sucrose, fructose and glucose - combined with fiber, petai gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proved that just two servings of petai provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder petai is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way petai can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression:
According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND among people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating petai. This is because petai contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS(premenstrual syndrome):
Forget the pills - eat petai. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia:
High in iron, petai can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure:
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the petai industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power:
200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating petai at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation :
High in fiber, including petai in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers:
One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a petai milkshake, sweetened with honey. The petai calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn:
Petai has a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating petai for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness:
Snacking on petai between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites:
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of the petai skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves:
Petai is high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight:
Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers:
Petai is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control:
Many other cultures see petai as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In hoiland, for example, pregnant women eat petai to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) :
Petai can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer, tryptophan.

Smoking:
Petai can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress:
Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium petai snack.

Strokes:
According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine, " eating petai as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%"

Warts:
Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of petai and place it on the wart. Carefully hold the petai in place with a plaster or surgical tape! So, you see, petai really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A Petai a day keeps the doctor away.

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHN HOPKINS IS FINALLY TELLING YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY..

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.

3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar, is a cancer-feeder.
By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like Nutrasweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt. (THE WEST MADE US 2 CHANGE FROM SEA 2 WHITE IODISED SALT )

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus .
By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soya milk cancer cells are being starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment.
A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine.
Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water- best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Florossence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, un forgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

PLEASE READ ON
1. No plastic containers in micro.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkinsh as recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Centers well. Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at CastleHospital was on a TV program to explain this health hazard.

He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat.

He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food.

You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

Good Cholesterol Tips - Cholesterol Information

Cholesterol really assists the system by creating original cells, aiding in the output of hormones, and insulating the numerous nerves that operate throughout the system. I have not gone one day without finding something with sugar in it to satisfy my urge. Some days I get a little carried away.

Why does this happen?
Sweet cravings come about for a number of reasons. In order to defeat these cravings, it is important to understand why they occur. Part of your cravings exist due to habit. You must have satisfied this craving in the past following a meal with something sweet. Then suddenly it becomes a part of your mindset. After every meal must come dessert. The good news is ALL Habits are learned, so this habit cam be unlearned as the result of practice and repetition.

Your cravings will continue to exist if you eat simple, refined carbohydrates or high sugar foods. The day you cut out the sweets is the day you take control and stop the cravings. Cravings exist because we feed them and allow them to exist. Yes, it is an addiction, but one we choose to have.
Take a peek at what is happening inside your body when you do make this choice. My hopes are that you will think twice before giving in.

Eating simple carbohydrates causes a spike in your blood sugar for these foods are quickly absorbed into the blood stream. This in turn gives you the temporary sugar high - it feels good….however, our body does not like this imbalance and a series of hormonal responses take place.

Your body produces an increased amount of the Insulin - a storage hormone. In order to facilitate this rush of insulin, glucagon - a release hormone - is diminished.
What does this hormone game mean to you? Each time you consume simple sugars and refined carbohydrates, you are doing nothing more than locking in fat.

Even worse? This cycle will continue for once your blood sugar levels hit bottom. You will Crash due to the excess insulin. Your body reacts once again for at this point your energy level bottoms out, you have trouble thinking clearly and you end up with cravings. You will inevitably crave sweets as these foods will raise blood sugar the quickest, getting you out of your slump.

The blood sugar High/Low cycle repeats - again and again and again…
Think of a roller coaster. This is what is happening inside your body every time you eat sweets.
The only way to stop the cravings…..is to get off the ride.

Strategies to Eliminate your Sweet Tooth
1. Clean out the Kitchen. Keeping sweets in the house will actually sabotaging your chances to be successful. Replace the junk with supportive options. For example, fresh fruits and vegetable, nuts, string cheese, high fiber crackers, etc.

2. Keep a Food Log Are you eating every 3 to 4 hours? Skipping meals will cause your blood sugar levels to drop. Be sure each meal and snack includes the right balance of protein, fats and carbohydrates. Sometimes a craving occurs due to a lack of protein and/or fats in your meal and snacks. Simply eating an apple is not enough. Pair your apple with a handful of nuts or some diced cheese cubes.

3. Wait it Out Did you know a craving lasts for about 15 minutes - then it goes away. Make a list of things you can do to distract you for 15 minutes. When a craving hits….grab a bottle of water and get to that activity - you can even set a timer. Once you hit 15 minutes…your cravings are gone and you are EMPOWERED!

4. Are you Stressed? Some cravings are STRESS related. Practice other ways to cope with stress - go for a walk , spiritual connections, a cozy fireplace, hot baths…all these stimulate neurochemicals that activate regions of the brain that stimulate pleasure associated with eating something sweet.

5. Break Old Habits. One way to take control and make a change is to keep a journal - sure enjoy a big glass of water or cup of hot tea - but do so as you write down what you are craving…why you are craving it….give the craving a name and talk to it….find out what it wants….tell it why it is not welcome at this time….I know, sounds corny - but does help you gain insight and control over such thoughts and beliefs - then you have the power to change them.
By simply “doing” something different after dinner, you can overcome this habit. After dinner, brush your teeth, chew on a piece of gum, sip on some hot tea that has a naturally sweet taste (this one has been my lifesaver….a licorice based tea has a wonderfully sweet flavor).
Remove yourself from the environment where you normally had your sweet dessert or treat. If you normally eat it while watching TV - turn off the TV and distract yourself with a good book, play with your children, listen to some music, write in your journal….
You will be amazed at how powerful a few little lifestyle habits will give you the control you need to deal with and overcome those nagging cravings.

Anti Aging Skin Care Guidelines

Contrary to popular belief, sun beds are not a safer way to tan. Sun beds emit UVA rays and causing tanning and aging of the skin .They may also be important in the development of melanoma. If you’re using a sunbed, you’re accelerating the aging of your skin and increasing your risk of skin cancer.

Drinking water and exercising unfortunately doesn’t make it go away although having a less body fat does help. There are creams and procedures available that can help reduce the appearance of cellulite. Talk to your dermatologist if it really bugs you.

Protect the soft skin around the eye area by using a treatment gel that helps to fight wrinkles while moisturizing this delicate area. Try intensive anti-wrinkle Treatment eye gels, a product that stimulates collagen synthesis while hydrating the skin and is available easily at drugstores nationwide.

Don’t wash your skin too often… Washing strips oil and moisture. Besides, tap water contains chlorine which causes oxidative damage. Washing your face twice a day is sufficient.
Choose products carefully… Everyone’s skin is different, so try several to see which products work best for you and which produce an anti effect.

Rosacea treatments from Reverta use a balanced blend of herbal extracts and essential oils that will significantly reduce inflammation on multiple levels: the result is a face with less redness and clearer complexion. Going to those tanning salons is a sure way to get wrinkle spots as well. Sporting a tan look definitely has its perks, but frequent tanning will eventually merit you the appearance of visible lines on your face. Smoking is another contributor to wrinkle formation since a nicotine habit deliberately dries the skin. Moreover, stress could be linked to the development of premature wrinkles since recurring stress lets a person habitually contract those facial muscles and the stretches become more visible in time.

This anti-aging skin care guide begins explaining how aging skin happens, and goes through all the factors that influence this process. You can find your skin type here, and how to take care of it, as well as what the ingredients in today.

Learning Problems in Children

Children can experience learning problems because of several reasons. Some children excel at studies while others strive hard. In this article, we discuss the different behavioural and learning problems that students aged 5-15 face.

Dyslexia
Dyslexia is reading problem. The children find it difficult to read what they have written. Dyslexia is characterised by the difficulty of brain in separating and processing written and verbal language. These children find it difficult to learn spelling and to read fluently. They also confuse between similar looking letters like b, d, p, q, etc. They also tend to skip letters, words or sentences while reading.

Dysgraphia
Dysgraphia is the difficulty to write. Students with this problem may be smart at reading and memorizing. Such students also show signs of diminished motor coordination and find the tasks like tying a shoelace.

Dyscalculia
Dyscalculia is problems associated with numbers. They interchange the places of digits. This problem makes it difficult for the children to learn mathematics.

Dysnomia
Dysnomia is characterised by lack of ability in memorizing names or words. Pupils with this problem find it difficult to remember the word for objects, places or things.

Dyspraxia
Dyspraxia is characterised by lack of or poorly developed skills in skilled tasks like typing, sewing, etc. Such children can also show signs of difficulty in controlling sound and speaking and can be slow at eating or drinking.

Children with these type of disorders may be smart at one or more special skills. For example, Ernest Hemingway is believed to have suffered from Dyspraxia.
Helping the children and instilling in them a sense of confidence is essential for the development of such children and to help them lead successful lives.

Causes of Eczema

I would like to cover every aspect of this topic. In order to keep things short I have only included the major topics detailed as good as possible.

Eczema is not caused by any particular reason, but it is by and large reasoned as allergic disease and may also be named as atopic eczema. It is connected with asthma and hay fever. If any of the family members is suffering from this disease then others will also be contaminated and may cause eczema or any of the other two.

There can be various causes of eczema as stated below;
* Change in a habitue temperature or humidity.* Unlike allergies (to dust, mold, animal, etc.)* Chemical irritants: pesticides, paint strippers, alcohol, astringents, perfumes, harsh soaps, detergents and home cleaners.* Physical irritants: synthetical clothes, clothes made of wool.* Emotional stress.* Any kind of infection.

All the above things may cause or may give lift to eczema. Any link with substance that irritates the skin is known as irritant contact dermatitis. This is caused by direct contact between skin and the substance like detergent, soap, alcohol, strong chemical, cleaner, perfume, and so on another cause of eczema is the contact with substances that may cause you allergy. These are the allergens which causes the skin to be promptly sensible to any change in atmosphere.
Allergens can be chemicals like detergent powder, perfumes skin reacts it rapidly. They also include metals like nickel. Whenever you wear the nickel earrings or any ornaments made by Nickel your skin will react it .Poisons ivy, cosmetic and rubber products are also incorporated in this category. Infantile eczema is a kind eczema that often influences young babies. This kind of eczema is caused by moisture from dribble or inflammation of scalp this is very well known as cradle crap.

The cause of eczema that affects the lower portion of legs which is also known as stasis dermatitis are the varicose veins so it may be also named as varicose or gravitational eczema .There are two types of the contact dermatitis known as hypersensitive contact dermatitis and direct irritant contact dermatitis. Direct irritant contact dermatitis is caused by direct exposure to acids, alkaline, detergents and various other chemicals that could really agitate the skin and if it happens recurrently then the condition can be chronic.

This kind of dermatitis is often come crossed at workplace. While on the other hand allergic contact dermatitis is caused by the exposure of skin to allergens that may be physical or chemical matters .There is an significant deviation between the two, for allergic contact dermatitis the exposure is necessary for infection to get caused while for direct irritant contact dermatitis it happens in first exposure like when you first came in contact with the chemicals and?you feel unconscious. Additional causes of eczema may be the issue of chemical reactions within human body.

These include seborrhoeic dermatitis, Atopic dermatitis, discoid or nummular, dishydrotic or pompholyx eczema and varicose dermatitis. Eczema causes number of symptoms. All types of eczema exclude seborrhoeic have few distinctive symptoms such as etching. The typical symptoms are skin redness, weeping of skin, inflammation, pain, tenderness, and scaling, crusting, dryness, fissures and vesicles takes place. Any kind of damage to epidermis and the upper layer of skin can cause it to get thicken and dry. This is also known as lichenification.

Michael Malega presents several causes of eczema articles for your information. You can visit Michael’s web site at: Causes of Eczema http://www.causes-of-eczema.net/Causes-Of-Eczema.php

Enrich Your Body With Beta Carotene

<colgroup><col style="WIDTH: 425pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 20699" width="566">

Beta Carotene is a healthful supplement to most diets. Beta Carotene comes from the orange coloring naturally present in foods such as pumpkins, squash and sweet potatoes. The scientist who discovered the nutrient of ?carotene,? did so by crystallizing a mixture created from carrots.
Not only is this a powerful antioxidant, beta carotene is a provitamin A compound. This compound converts to Vitamin A once ingested. Among the many benefits of Vitamin A are healthy skin, hair, vision and an improved immune system. Alpha, beta, and gamma carotene nutrients are all considered ?provitamin? because they are converted to Vitamin A in the body.
Vitamin A deficiencies have been linked to a number of health problems. Those include bone development disorders and reproductive disorders. Commercial grade beta carotene typically changes to retinol in the body and this is essential to good vision.
Beta Carotene is in the same carotenoid family as the oft-discussed lycopene, another powerful weapon against many diseases. Beta Carotene holds many benefits in itself. The compound also contains flavonoids. Flavonoids are also antioxidants and are found in most red and orange fruits.
Other items that contain beta carotene include: tomatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, apricots and mangoes. Food items containing a spectrum of the carotenoid, including beta carotene are: spinach, broccoli, kale, and lettuce.
Foods that contain the healthful flavonoids hold them just around the skin so it isn?t recommended that you peel these fruits. If you remove the skin, you will likely strip away these beneficial nutrients.
Beta carotene has been studied for its effectiveness with such diseases and disorders as: anemia, cataracts, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, benign breast disease, immune system enhancement, Graves? Disease, improving lung function, macular degeneration, osteoarthritis, angioplasty, cancer, cardiovascular disease, postoperative injury prevention, stroke, sepsis and many others. All scientific proof has resulted in a diverse report on each theory. Your health care professional will have further information.
Beta carotene supplements come in capsules, chewable tablets or typical tablets. If you want a natural way, this will require five to eight servings of fruit and vegetables a day. This amount seems to be prohibitive to many and supplements may be ideal for such a situation.
As wonderful as Vitamin A is for the healthy body, there are some cautions you should consider before making this a part of your daily regimen. Smokers or those who drink alcohol should not use this supplement. People who are allergic to orange foods should not take beta carotene. As with any change in your diet, discuss the benefits or risks of beta carotene with your physician prior to using the supplement.
There are little in the way of scientific study or research involving children and beta carotene. There is also minimal information in regards to pregnant or nursing women using this supplement. Your healthcare provider should be consulted in either of these situations.
Carefully study product labels. The FDA does not usually regulate the use of herbs or supplements. There is also the fact that many supplements are produced synthetically with the use of palm oil, algae or fungi. Hence, make sure the supplement you purchase is from a reputable name brand company that gets tested regularly for quality assurance.

More information on the powerful antioxidant beta carotene is available at VitaNet ?, LLC Health Food Store. http://vitanetonline.com/

The definition of good nutrition

The definition of good nutrition needs to answer the question: Good for What? Cardiovascular disease is one of the most studied disorders in the world, where nutrition contributes to the risk of illness and harm. Many studies take a narrow view of risk factors and their role in holistic health. Memory loss, fatigue are difficult to quantify symptoms of illness, and do not fit into the cardiovascular risk assessment model.

Good Nutrition
What is Good Nutrition? Modern Medicine makes a number of Predictions. But then why should traditional medicine advice conflict with that given by our learned experts of today?
The answer lies in perspective. A diet can be good from one person’s point of view, but still make the person unwell. A patient can receive a low cholesterol diet, a weight loss diet, a gluten free diet, a high essential fatty acids diet, a high protein diet, a low carbohydrate diet and many more. These diets all aim to achieve specific things for specific people, so from the point of view of a cardiologist a low fat and low cholesterol diet is beneficial, while a high essential fatty acid diet is not. A person who is experiencing behavioural problems may well find quite the opposite is acceptable or useful.

So in what situations should specific diets be used to give "Good Nutrition" ?
One of the most studied clinical conditions and diets in the world relate to cardiovascular disease. There is no doubt that if you eat a low fat and low cholesterol diet, there are extensive mortality and morbidity advantages to a person who has a bad heart, angina, or who has had a heart attack in the distant past. High cholesterol corrodes the arteries and assists atherosclerosis to develop. The arteries block. People begin to show symptoms of heart attacks, angina, stroke, gangrene of the limbs, infarcts (arterial blockages) causing damage to organs throughout the body e.g. the kidney is a typically silently affected organ affected by atherosclerosis.

Diet restriction of food intake is a clumsy method of reducing lipids (Cholesterol and triglycerides collectively known as fat to most people), in the blood stream. Doctors have found that medicines do it better. The big pharmaceutical companies have invested serious research to demonstrate that their medicines actually reduce the risk of atherosclerosis: namely heart attacks and stroke. Reducing fat and cholesterol whether by diet or by medicines actually does work to make people live longer or live better.

The "fly in the ointment" comes, as there have been some case reports of
Increased infection risk: appendicitis, occasionally pneumonia ,Increased risk of memory .These types of events are relatively common in the average population, so the pharmaceutical companies attribute the findings to coincidence. The difficulty lies of course in that changes in minor hard to measure things like this are difficult subjects for research and it is difficult to prove a causal link between cholesterol lowering and these symptoms. Time scale is important also. The Paill Spectrum model would predict that if these symptoms are seen, they would typically be long term results of cholesterol lowering, not short term consequences. Mortality and morbidity changes due to lessened cardiovascular disease would in fact swamp the changes seen with Paill Spectrum disease progression. In fact if the person is getting memory loss from multiple small strokes (essentially asymptomatic), they may look like their memory is in fact improving with cholesterol lowering therapy. Paill Spectrum causes memory loss by a different mechanism and over very long lead times, so it is not hard to lose (not see) the clinical effects of the illness, especially where other pathological processes (ie mini strokes) may cause similar symptoms for different reasons.

It is hard to see the effects of one type of treatment, when there are two conflicting underlying reason responsible for the observed trends. The problem with cholesterol lowering arises when doctors treat people who have no symptoms at all with cholesterol lowering treatment to very low levels. These people were never sick in the first place. It is much harder to show mortality and morbidity (illness) advantages of cholesterol lowering treatments in these patients.
Perhaps that is because the lead times to the development of disease symptoms are longer, so that it becomes easier for conflicting trends resulting from treatment to begin to show their effects. Yes, you can still see advantages to cholesterol lowering in “normal “ people, but these advantages are far more difficult to measure, as the actual measured advantage is much lower.
In summary, cholesterol lowering, whether by diet or medicine has specific advantages for specific people with specific medical conditions. So it should be obvious that good nutrition is “good” depending on the clinical state (wellness) of the patient. Such advice needs to be individualized based one what is important to achieve for the patient.

So the question still remains. What is good nutrition? What follows is "The Paill Spectrum Slant on Good Nutrition".
Good levels of B12, Folate and zinc intake are important.
Whether it is useful to eat high bioavailability zinc foods in contrast to taking tablets remains to be seen.
Iron, a comparable mineral has very low absorption when taken from tablet sources (3-4%) while the bioavailability of heme- iron from meat containing foods may approach 50%. Meat is unfortunately a more expensive way to ingest iron. Lifestyle and food choices are hard to alter, so tablets are usually recommended.

Good levels of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid intake are beneficial, but these are probably best obtained by use of supplements, rather than altering dietary intakes.
Is fresh best? One cannot doubt that food composition changes when food is stored. For example the year round supply of bananas, oranges and apples that we all take for granted is due to the use of industrial cold storage for fruit. It is quite possible that one may be eating fruit that has been in cold storage for up to nine months. Sitting in a cold dark room almost in suspended animation must change the chemical composition of fruit.
Avoid wheat or gluten like food proteins if you are allergic. If you are not allergic, there appears to be no downside to the consumption of these types of foods. Avoid any food to which there may be a mild allergy, even if no rashes or other harmful consequences are easily obvious. The importance of allergy relates to frequency of intake, so it is likely that minor intakes of minor food allergens may not be important in the scheme of things.

It is likely that minor food allergies are a lot more common than hitherto suspected. I have a very small number of patients who have one or two wet coughs after eating a Macdonald’s meal. It sounds like an allergic process to a food additive may well be the underlying cause. These people may well best avoid the types of food that trigger their reaction. These issues are rarely that simple. The addition of food preservatives is important to ensuring food safety for the rest of us. So it is not acceptable to blanket ban a “preservative” additive when many other people may end up suffering harm (e.g. from bad food), than may be injured by allergy. (which only a small number of people may have).

Cholesterol lowering and fat free diets are important for prevention of cardiovascular disease. However, immune processes generally run better at higher cholesterol levels. Certainly, many doctors have seen that very ill people drop their cholesterol as their body chews up the cholesterol reserves to build cells to help fight infection.

So the Paill Recommendation, is that in the absence of any specific indication to alter cholesterol levels (e.g. heart attack or stroke), cholesterol lowering and low fat diet is worthwhile to reduce cholesterol levels to physiological (normal or usual) levels. Certain sorts of high fat foods may be acceptable for the natural anti-oxidants or more specifically for the high levels of Omega-3 or omega-6 fatty acids that they contain. Some of the nuts especially fall into this category.

Excessive cholesterol lowering is to be avoided. Patients who are experiencing hypoglycemia or weight gain may benefit from a lean protein diet with low GI carbohydrates.
High protein, low carbohydrate is probably not a good idea, though when taken to extreme the metabolic changes resulting from extreme carbohydrate restriction will cause ketosis and weight loss through basic TCA (Krebs’s cycle or metabolic) mechanisms.
High carbohydrate if inappropriate (high) GI will lead to a cycle of hunger and eating that in patients with Paill Spectrum liver metabolic changes, will exacerbate weight loss.
There is a large list of foods that traditional Chinese medicine suggests avoiding. Dr. Pluta states that currently in the absence of clinical impressions, he would have no opinion either pro or against in regards the consumption of these foods.
Paill Spectrum nutritional recommendations are likely to play an important role in diabetic diets and obesity controlling diets. Nutrition is a major factor in controlling Paill Spectrum infection. Very good symptom responses are possible with nutrition alone. If we don't get rid of them on a regular basis we get sick. Sometimes we are all so full of toxins that our bodies are struggling to get or stay healthy. These toxins not only cause serious diseases such as cancer, they can also cause you to experience depression and are linked to several reasons why you may not be able to maintain your ideal weight. Because these toxins are in the air you breathe, the water you drink, and the food you eat - you can't avoid them. But you can take steps to reduce their effects and routinely eliminate them from your system.
Your body naturally produces antioxidants. But what are antioxidants used for? As you age or if you become sick, the production of antioxidants by your body slows down resulting in your body not being able to rid itself of toxins it absorbed. Depending on the environment your children live in or the foods they eat, the antioxidants that their bodies naturally produce may have a hard time keeping up with eliminating the toxins in their very active young bodies. To help your body, you need to provide antioxidants from an outside source. Doing so can make you and your children healthier by increasing the body's ability to fight off sickness and disease.
Science has shown that green vegetables contain the antioxidants that your body craves. It's about time that science agrees with what mom's have been saying all along - eat your spinach! The FDA currently recommends at least two full servings of greens each and every day. Note the word 'currently' - because the amount of nutrients in your fruits and vegetables is decreasing and what took one serving 25 years ago now takes two. Eating two servings of green vegetables in today's fast-paced world is hard to do. When was the last time you ate two servings of green vegetables in one day? Now think about the last time you had two servings of green vegetables two days in a row? Other foods that include antioxidants include red beans, black plums, and wild blueberries. But one of the quality sources of antioxidants from food comes from your green vegetables.
Let's face it, if you are like most Americans your eating habits are not the best they could be because for many of us, we tend to eat on the run. Instead of coming home from work to cook a hot healthy meal, you wind up getting dinner at a drive thru window on the way home. This rushed lifestyle means that you're not only missing out on the recommended two servings of greens each day - it also means that you should consider yourself lucky to get even one serving PER WEEK! Your rushed lifestyle habits are counter to your own good health. You become one of the millions within the US that experience nagging health issues or health-related problems. You may be depressed or overweight. At the end of the day you may feel tired, or achy, or in general - just don't feel right. These symptoms can all be traced back to the toxins that build up in your body and not eating the foods that help your body get rid of them.
Fortunately, there are easy ways you can get your two servings of greens each day. There is even a way to get your two servings per day without eating a single bite of them! This is great news for people who would never put the greens on their plate to begin with, even if they were available - like your kids! The bottom line is that you don't have to like the greens to get the benefits from them.
There are a variety of products but very few that contain a 100% vegetarian green food formula. With a very little bit of Internet searching you should be able to find a green food, all-vegetarian supplement that contains concentrated, organic and natural ingredients. Many of these formulas are also used in anti-aging supplements. Vegetables like broccoli and lettuce should be included in the mix. They are typically ground up into a formula that provides all the nutrients and antioxidants that enable your body to get rid of toxins.
Among other actions and benefits, a green food supplement can rebalance your body's pH, and stimulate cellular cleansing throughout your body. When this happens, your body detoxifies by natural elimination (going to the bathroom). As your body gets rid of the built-up toxins, many health conditions you may have been experiencing improve. Your body is better able to prevent or fight off disease - making you feel better. When your body is detoxified, you will find that you enjoy a deeper sleep, feel healthier, and have more energy.
The next time you pick your dinner up at a drive-through window, remember that you can "drink" your daily serving of a natural nutritional supplement and take comfort in knowing that you are getting the green vegetables, and more importantly the antioxidant advantages and general nutrients, that you need in your system to promote good health

Source: GoArticles
