It Was A Wonderful Trip

We stayed at Legend Water Chalet Port Dickson (PD) and it was a very nice trip. After checked in and had some rest we went to the nearby hotel (Glory beach hotel) to check out the beach condition. We saw kids riding on a horse. We decided to let out kids ride on the horse since my little girl hasn’t had this experience before. After that, we went straight to the beach to build sand castle. The kids really enjoying themselves playing sand and I joined them too.

The room interior designed was superb and there was a built in see through glass where you could see the below area from your room. I brought along my fishing rod but there seems to be no fish around and only small crabs.

We didn’t go for swimming because my kids caught a cold just before we leave for PD. Dinner time came and I guessed I and my family were the first to be in the restaurant (because we didn’t go to swimming pool). It was a buffet dinner and we truly enjoyed the meals. The reason I went to PD was to celebrate my 10 years wedding anniversary. Time flies just like that and seeing my kids grow was the most beautiful experienced.

Above all, LOVE. Spend quality and quantity time with your children. Be generous with your praises and lots of hugs. Bring corrections and discipline to a child with love and consistency and one day your children and grandchildren ‘arise and call you blessed!’

Remember, the greatest gift that a father can give to his children is to love his wife!

Short Holiday To Port Dickson

Tomorrow i and my family will be going to Port Dickson (PD)for a short holiday. The last time i went there was about 2 years ago. The place that i'm staying is located along the coastal stretch of PD in Negeri Sembilan on the west coast of Malaysia. The journey from my house to PD is about one and a half hour drive and the kids will surely love the place very much. When i come back, i will show some pictures to you.

Just completed the basic monitor course for 3 of the Malaysia Airport Technologies (MAT) staff. They came last year for basic electronic and next year will be in the advance monitor repair course. The participants told me that every year MAT sent their staff for training. The furthest place they sent was in Australia. Some had took the PLC programming, windows server and networking courses too. MAT is truly a blessing to their staff. Next week there will be another batch of three coming for the basic monitor course. Hope after the rest in PD, i again will give the best to all of them.

While on the way back home after sending my son for a night classes, my car met an accident. The driver from the other car hit the boot and the bumper was totally wrecked and we were shocked by the accident. Thank God that all of us inside the car (me, my wife and daughter) were safe. The driver kept saying sorry as he also worried about our condition. This is the first time that my car was knocked from behind with such a big impact. We could felt that the seat belt really at work otherwise we would hit the windscreen and cause injury to us. I saw his car in the front part was badly damaged too. We decided to carry on with the trip tomorrow and only next week i will send the car for repair.

As for the weekly electronic repair article, i will only send it next week. Take care my friends!

Looking Forward To Teach More Repair Courses

I suppose to go on a short vacation today and plan to send the repair article on friday but out of sudden my son developed a high fever. I have to postpone the short trip to next week and will be sending the repair article in few more hours time. Yesterday i just completed the advanced monitor course for the young guy. He finished all the 3 major courses and starting from next week onward till end of the month he will be station in the technical department to start repair customer monitors. Although i shared to him all the repairing secrets, he still need to be expose to the actual faults in Monitor. Practical or hands on is still the best to learn electronic repair.

Next week a new batch of MAT staff will be attending the basic monitor repair. They had completed the basic electronic course last year. For your information, each of their staff are eligible to take up one of our course per year. That's mean, once i completed this basic monitor course for them, they will come next year to take the advance monitor course and another year for LCD monitor repair.

There are some good news too, in august and september there will be students attending the LCD monitor repair course. After setting up my new website electronicrepairguide.com and jestineyong.com it seems that i got more enquiries about the courses. Since i want to expand my company especially in the repair courses, i had consulted a salesman about the advertising. I plan to advertise in this coming either august or september to let more people know about the courses. Hope after advertise more people will be taking up the repair courses from us.

After completion of the course one can always choose which field they want to be in. It is not necessary must be in the Monitor repair line. I'm just using Monitor as a guide to teach about electronic repair. You can choose to be a technician in monitor, tv, cctv, automobile, parking system, alarm system, audio, computer and many more in repair. You can also work in big firm too like matsushita, national, panasonic, samsung, LG, Epson and etc.

Completed Another Course For MAT Staff

Completed another basic electronic course for the malaysia airport technologies (MAT)staff. At first i didn't knew that they sent two ladies to attend my course. I was only told 5 staff will be attending the course. One of ladies have diploma in IT while the other have diploma in Engineering. They have no problem handling all those hardware stuff. This course is target to those who are really new or have some experience in electronics. I always tell my students that my job is to build a road for them, whether they want to sit, stand, walk or run is actually depends on themselves. To run means after the course, build more electronic projest kits, visit repair forum, read electonic books and magazine and etc. There will be non stop of acquiring electronic repair kbowledge and the process of learning electronics is continuous! This is true also if you want to improve yourself in electronics or any other field that you interested in.

The young guy now is taking the second level course which is the basic monitor repair. He had spent 3 days in my technical department where my supervisor guide him on the practical side especially on the basic electronics. He trained him again on the soldering and checking electronic components skill. I could see that he have the heart of loving this job. Whatever electronic components assignment my supervisor gave him, he was able to solve it-marvelous!

Even he is good at reading Monitor schematic diagram and locate the Monitor circuit too. For your information, at the end of each day of the course, i will hand the students about 10 to 15 questions and this young guy was able to answer 90% of the questions. He is the type that never give up easily and i seldom see any students that come close to him- to be honest.

I told him that he is blessed to have a good father and family members that support him in his study. He is not from a well to do family and after completion of the course i believe he will be able to contribute back to his family finance after he start working. I just want them to be independent and stand on their feet and not always to depends on parents. Somehow you just have to climb your own ladder one day and no one will climb it for you. Seeing my former students successful in their repair career really made me have a great joy and happiness in my heart.

Electronic repair courses

Just finished giving a basic electronic course today for the student that i've mentioned in the last post. He is only 19 years old and have decided not to continue with his study. He told me that he love to dismantle things and find out how it works (same as me) when he was young and willing to start work after completion of all my courses. I've been told by one of my TV repair friend that he is looking for a junior tech and a general clerk. I will train him till end of july and most probably hope that he can start work by 1st of August.

Just after 3 days attending the basic course, he is independent now and had no problem in troubleshooting electronic components. He will start to take the basic monitor repair course on next Thursday as this course is totally different from the basic electronic. He will be expose to many types of circuit, how to read schematic, simple modification of electronic circuit and many more. Next monday till wednesday, again starting the basic electronic course for the MAT staff (5 of them will be coming). Looks like i have to talk less so that my throat have the time to rest. Me and my family members just celebrated father's day few hours ago. We had a simple dinner at a restaurant nearby my house. Usually every year, we will celebrate after one week of the actual date to avoid congestion in the restaurants. Hope i'm not too late to wish all of my readers a happy father's day! MAT Courses Start Today

Courses for Malaysia Airport Technologies (MAT) start today. Every year MAT sent about 10 over staff for training and newer staff will take the Basic Electronics course first before proceed to take the Basic Monitor repair course the following year until the completion of the course which is the Advanced Monitor Repair. Somehow this year have an additional course which is the LCD Monitor repair course which will be starting on this coming August. So far we have sent out some quotation to MAT and University Cyberjaya and one big corporation, hope their management will approve the course.

Today’s course was attended by four of the MAT staff and they are doing very well and looking to learn more in the next two days. This coming Thursday, there might be another basic electronic course held for a participant. Remember from the previous post 3 months ago, a participant just after completion of form 5 wanted to learn from me all the troubleshooting and repair skills but he got a called to serve in the national service (NS) for 3 months. Now the NS training was over and his father called me saying that he will be sending his son next Thursday to be train under me. I will conduct the course in Mandarin. If everything goes well, then I may be very busy from Monday to Saturday for couples of week just to give training.

Last week, there was another caller from Kuala Trengganu expressed his interest in the courses too. Quotation already sent out and now just waits for the purchase order only.

Wow! About the fishing trip, it was very fruitful. Good weather, calm sea, and the best is the good catch! Not to mention, good food too! Every of my angler’s friends were very happy and many will be looking forward for the next trip. Some suggest go to pulau (island) AUR which is somewhere near pulau Tioman in this coming September. Well, if all planned accordingly, perhaps after finishing giving all the courses, I may take a rest by going to the place my angler’s friends have suggested. Click below to view the photos

Came Back From MUAR

It was a very good holiday at my in law’s house in Muar. I slept a lot as though that my body has been very long time didn’t relax! It really rejuvenates my body and mind and I could think of lots of electronic repair ideas too. Not only that, I went to lots of hawker stalls to try the local foods there as the price was much much cheaper than KL. I also went to one of the famous electronic shop in the center of town to buy some ultra fast recovery diodes as the price was also much cheaper than KL. No wonder lots of Singaporean like to visit Muar when there’s a holiday because their money currency rate is about 2.3 to 1 Malaysian Ringgit. That’s mean for every 1 MR equal to 0.43 Singapore dollar. Besides, it only took them 2 hours drive from Singapore to Muar.

My free time mostly spend with the kids and I like to bring them to “Tanjung” because there have lots of playgrounds for children, good scenery (besides Muar river), fresh air and a nice pedestrian walkway by the Muar river too. Opposite the river, I could see SG Thompson semiconductor and one of my former college mate works there as an engineer.
I went to a local bookstore too and stumbled upon the magazine “Electronics For You” and I bought it and finished reading it in the middle of the night.

While in Muar, I received a call from my company saying that Malaysia Airport Technologies has confirmed sending their staff for training. It was really good news to me as I’m looking forward for their confirmation since on April. Well, the course will be starting on 18th of June and will be end on August. By the way don’t miss out on all the photos that I have taken during when I’m in Muar. This coming Friday, I’ll be leaving for Merchung again for sea fishing, hope this time there will be no more big wave! School starts tomorrow and as usual, got to wake up early to fetch my kids and wife before going to work. Oh yes, my new website is almost complete and will be launching soon. Taking A Break

Tomorrow i and my family will be going to my in law's house in Muar Johor for a holiday. This week is the second week of school holiday so i better bring my kids to visit their grandparents before the school starts next week. I will be there for about 4 days and the article that i suppose to send to you every week will also be delayed. I'm planning to bring my family to watch SHREK 3 at the local cinema there and enjoy some nice food at the hawker stalls and many singaporeans love to visit Muar too. Its a small town and not busy like KL. Will post some nice photos when i come back.

Last week my family members celebrated my birthday and it was fun and joy. If you look back, you could see that time never and will never wait for you- it just passes so fast.

I completed the advanced monitor repair course last saturday and my student can't wait to go back to his technical workshop to start practising the repair tips that i taught him. He told me that he got a lot of Monitor problems that can be solve by using the methods i shared to him. He is the kind of person who never give up.

Today while working, my car mechanic sent me a Toyota automobile mainboard for repair. I told him i could not test the board as it need some special ways to check it. The most i could do was to check all the components except the big cpu and some customize IC's. After spending quite sometimes, i concluded that the components surrounding the IC's was good. He came and brought the board back and retest again. Later when i met him, i asked about the board. He told me that he actually found a connector loosen out under the dashboard and the board was working fine now. This story reminds me of a repair friend who repair the Mercedes Benz power windows circuit board many years ago. He told me that he used Huntron tracker to troubleshoot the fault and manage to charge high prices on such repairs. If you would like to diversify your repair business, automobile circuit board repair could be lucrative to you too.

Advanced Monitor Troubleshooting Course

Today was my second day conducting the advanced monitor troubleshooting and repair course. There was only one student attending this course, by right it should be three but because the other twos (they are partners in a computer firm) got a call from a big corporate asking them to deliver new computers by this week thus i have to make another date for them to attend. As for this student, he is currently working
with Nintendo company as a senior tech. His job is to repair the amusement machnie (gaming TV or Monitors). He already took my basic monitor repair course about 2 years ago and now decided to take the advanced monitor repair. The way i saw him doing the practical work i knew that he had learned so much within the 2 years repairing the gaming TV and the main board. He is such a humble guy and willing to take the extra miles in order to achieve his dream as a professional electronic repairer.

I could see that he was very happy when i reveals all of my secrets repair tips that can really cut short his troubleshooting and repair time. May be one day i should interview him how was it like working in the amusement machine industry. What say you?

High Voltage Probe

A former student of mine came to my office showing me a high voltage probe bought from Taiwan by his boss. The brand name was PINTEX. Before this he had difficulty of testing the high voltage of the monitor. Why do we need high voltage probe? The probe will show us the exact high voltage value produced at the anode by the flyback transformer. Whenever a monitor shutdown we need to know at what voltage level does it shutdown. Does the monitor shutdown at less than 24 kv or above 24 kv? With high voltage probe you can quickly determine at what voltage the monitor shutdown and you can easily determine the relevant circuit and from there you can start your troubleshooting job.

His high voltage probe need to be connected to a multimeter in order to read the reading. From the manual, it says that 1volt= 1000 volt! That's mean if your meter registered 24 volt is actually 24000v or 24 kv. As for me i still prefer to use a high voltage meter that comes with a panel meter on it. It's simple and very easy to read. Technical Department Need This...............

Yesterday there was a salesperson walked into my office trying to sell something to me. You could see those salesman were very aggressive pushing their products at coffeeshops, streets and from door to door. The products that they were usually sell was books for kids (educational products), electrical gadgets, household items and many more. Okay come back to this salesperson, the moment this salesperson show me the product i immediately thought of technical department. It was a small, white and powerful LED torch and the neck can be turn 360 degree. Because of this product small in size, have the flexibility and cheap, i immediately bought it. It comes with a free radio with earphone and three extra batteries!

I knew that my technical department already have a torch light but somehow i liked this design and it really suit when it comes to the point you want to see the part numbers of components located under the belly of CRT picture tube. You can push the neck of the LED torch light deep into the covered area. Guess how much is this led torch light? It was only RM10.00 (about USD2+)

Just received latest Nikkei Electronics Asia Magazine

Time flies, another month had passed. It seems like i'm getting this magazine every week! It's been exactly 3 months since after my electronic repair guide dot com website launched. At the moment there are about 600 subscribers had joined as the members of the ERG and i'm expecting more by end of the year. I'm targeting about 3000 to 4000 members by end of the year. I'm planning to start a forum too but with my current tight schedule i could not allocate much time to manage the forum. I'll put on hold first, and when the right time comes, i will definitely set up one for the ERG members to discuss about electronic repair!

Is Electronic Repair Line A Dying Trade?

It Was A Wonderful Trip

The holiday at Genting highland was great and the condition was so cold especially at night. We had our steamboat dinner and everyone in the family enjoyed the food so much and we brought our family members to the Theme park and watched fireworks (celebrating Labour day) and the kids were very happy to see such bright colorful sky caused by the fireworks. We even went into the man made snow room (with minus 6 Celsius) and start throwing the ice to each others. All of us really had a great fun in Genting highland.

What amazed me about this resort is the founder when at the age of 50 (he had a vision), he sold off his tin mining business in the 60’s and use the money to build a resort on a mountain which is 2000 meters above the sea level. Many of his friends said he was insane to make such decision. Nothing can stop his dream from coming to reality. He had the determination and courage and the vision that is far ahead of his time. At present, this resort and its subsidiary making net profits billions of dollars every year! He is still alive and just celebrated his 90th birthday with his family and the business is now run by his son. Do you have a vision? If yes would you like to turn your vision into reality? Then start take action NOW because this famous quote by Albert Einstein said “Noting Happen Until Something Move”.

Going For A Holiday in Genting Highlands

Today and tomorrow is a public holidays (Labour and Wesak Day). My family and my wife’s family members is going to Genting Highland for a holiday The last time I went there was about 2 and a half years ago. Genting Highlands is the most developed hill resort in Malaysia. At 2,000 meters above sea level, it offers a cool respite from Malaysia's capital city combined with all of the excitement, luxury, and entertainment of an international resort destination. The resort also includes two theme parks (kids will surely like this), both with dozens of amusement rides and attractions suitable for the entire family. Just 3 days ago, Olivia Newton John performed a spectacular show at Genting Arena jam packed with 4,000 of her fans. When I come back, I will show you some pictures of it. Went to Orphanage Home

I and my wife went to Tengku Budriah cheras orphanage home yesterday and it was organized by her employer which is Maybank. I saw many kids and some as young as few months old abandoned by their parents and it was pity and sad to see such things happened. There were about 30 – 40 Maybank staff to help out in playing tele-match with the children and also help to carry the younger one to walk around the center. The younger one just needs more of our attention and our love! In order to entertain those children, we invited my friend who is a professional clown a.k.a uncle button to perform a clown show there. We could see those children were very happy and at the end of the performance they were given balloon animals. By the age of 18, they will be independent and will leave the center to look for job. We are blessed to have parents who care for us and whenever we want them they will be at our side. Don’t take things for granted, appreciate our parents when they are still alive and not when they are no longer with us. This coming mother’s day, have you decided to spend time with her or carry on with your routine job? Without them we would not be here. Think about it.

Acid Alkaline Balance In Our Body

Just completed reading this book" Reverse Aging-not science fiction, but a science facts! by Sang Whang" which talk about drinking alkaline water. It mentioned that a usually sick person is very acidic in his body thus need alkaline water to flush out the excessive acid from the body. It also mentioned that doctors in Japan discovered if a person sick not caused by virus or bacteria then most probably was due to too much acid in the body. It clearly explained how by drinking alkaline water that high in excess oxygen can prevent the development of cancer. It’s a good read and I need to find out more about alkaline water information. As for me, I drink distilled water produced from a distiller. I drink distilled water after reading the book by Paul C Bragg “The Shocking Truth about Water” many years ago. It really helps and especially mixed in with apple cider vinegar to maintain the body’s acid-alkaline balance. One must always take good care of their health and remember to exercise and don’t over indulge in the things you love. Without good health many things or visions can’t be accomplished in our life. How long have you didn’t exercise?

Bought Tools For Technical Department

I went to Jalan Pasar KL (pasar road jalan pudu) today to buy some electronic stuff. This place is well famous for selling electronic and electrical things. Most of KL electronic repairers go to this place to look and search for electronic spare parts. I would usually go there at least one in 2 months to buy and check if there are any new arrivals of technical books, monitor spare parts and etc. I found a data book by NTE USA but I didn’t buy it because it has many similarities with the ECG Philips semiconductor replacement guide.

I went to most of the electronic shops there and some I just do window shopping while others I bought some tools for my technical department. If you are new in electronic repair and local and wish to know where you can get those electronic spare parts, why not just drop by and have a look.

Merchung Fishing Trip Photos

Just before I and my friends go for the fishing trip, we received a call from the Merchung boatman saying that the sea was quite rough and it is not recommended to go out for fishing. Due to this situation, we hold a meeting and all agreed that the trip have to be “on” because the whole purpose for the fishing trip was not about catching fish but more for togetherness and enjoy the seafood. We proceeded our journey and by 7.30pm we reached Kuala Rompin and had our dinner there. The weather looks good on that day but no one knows about tomorrow’s weather. After dinner we went to buy some fruits and foods at the nearby mini market before heading to Merchung. As usual when we are in the chalets everyone would be busy preparing their fishing gear and talks about jokes, families, and many other topics. This is the time of real fellowship!

We went to sleep about 11.30pm and woke up at 6.30am for breakfast. The weather doesn’t look good but improving. After breakfast, we waited for another 2 hours just to see if the weather improves or not. At about 9.00am the sky was bright and clear and we sent a boat to observe the situation. We got a called from the first boat saying that the sea condition was a little bit choppy and still tolerable and he added if you wish to come you may do so. We made a decision to go out and if the sea is bad we will come back and just fish at the riverbank. I was in the second boat and we cruise along the river for about 15 minutes before we could reach the wide open sea.

True enough the sea condition was still not improving and we decided to fish at the riverbank. I could see some of my fishing buddies were quite disappointed-me too but we can always make a trip back here anytime. There is always a better tomorrow. No point to force ourselves and we heard from the boatman said that there was once a boat capsized not long ago due to big wave. This time around the climate was very unusual; by right the sea should be calm at this season. Some boatman said it was the effect of the tsunami happened in the Solomon island recently. How true was it, I’m not so sure. There could be other causes too such as global warming and etc.

There is no fun fishing at the riverbank and after 1 hour we went back to our chalets waiting for the fist boat. While waiting, we do some casting at the jetty and caught some small fishes. We chatted again at the jetty, and enjoy the beautiful scenery and heard birds chirping. This kind of condition you can’t find it in KL and it was so relaxing and the mind really refreshed!

Finally the first boat arrived and after shower, we packed our things and went to nearby fishing village to search for fish to buy. We managed to buy three lobsters for dinner and 3 of my friends bought a 8kg ebek fish (trevally family). They want to bring it home and show it to their wives. We told them please don’t buy salmon and cod fish (it’ an imported fish and can’t be found in Malaysia water) and show it to their wives-we all laughed.

Dinner served at about 6.45pm, had some chat again and then we went back home about 7.30pm. It was a little bit tiring but very refreshing. I’m looking forward for more trips like this but of course with good weather. Check out the rest of the photos below:

Away For A Fishing Trip In Merchung

Tomorrow I will be going for a fishing trip with my fishing buddies. Every year in the month of April just after the monsoon season I will surely join my fishing friends to Merchung Pahang. This is the right time to catch those big one. Click the map to enlarge it and you could clearly see where Merchung is. The journey will take about 4 hours and we will reach Rompin first for a dinner before checking in into the Merchung chalets. We will start fishing from 7.30 am to late afternoon and after dinner we will be heading back to KL. It’s been a long time since my last fishing trip was at Kelong pulau sibu Johor on November 2006. Fishing will make me temporarily don’t think about my busy daily schedule and will help me to discharge all my pressure. So there will be no posting on electronic repair articles for couples of days because I’ll still need some time to recuperate once I get back. I will show you some interesting photos in the next post. Have a good weekend rest ahead!

Smart Tweezer Autoranging LCR Meter

Today, while surfing the net in an electronic site, I saw a banner about a special meter called smart tweezer. It looks very handy and is designed to check and test SMD electronic components such as resistor, capacitor and inductor. It’s an autoranging LCR meter with integrated gold plated probe. In my opinion, this meter is good for those who want to check all the tiny SMD components in the LCD Monitor/TV, mobile phone repairing and etc. I’m sure I will get one soon. Turning Fishing Tackle Box Into LCD Repair Tool Box

Two days ago I went to a fishing tackle shop to assist my friend in buying fishing equipment. He is new in this sports fishing and I have to recommend some basic fishing gear, hook, rod and line for him. I will be going for a fishing trip next week. While browsing through the items displayed on the rack I stumbled across a small fishing tackle box. I thought to myself, this box looks great by placing all the LCD Monitor repair tools in it. It’s neat and convenience too! The price tag was only RM17.00 which is quite cheap. I bought it and very happy about the internal compartment which you can adjust to suit the things you want to put in. May be later I will also put in the smart tweezer LCD meter (read the above post).
