It's happened! Cliptip has made the move to a new website!

I will be shutting down the comments sections on this the blogspot site as it has become a horrible spam factory.

The layout is cleaner with less spelling errors and a continued, well edited focus on high resolution videos and albums of note. Unfortunately, due to the dwindling amount of quicktime files on the web (thank you, YouTube), the downloadable podcast will cease to be. Hope you like the new site.

Another odd single, this time from Montreal electro-funksters Chromeo. The electric piano is in full deployment with Dave 1's smooth pop vocals and spritey lyrics. The eighties are an undying and suprisingly vital pop zombie. Animated video directed by Stephane Manel with artists David Devaux, Richar Mvogo and Stephane Manel. Watch the music video (qt).

Weird pop has a home here. Hot Chip, usually keeps the pulses racing with danceable indie pleasing electro, but today they move at a mid tempo pace with this weird pop single. The video, directed by Rollo Jackson, ups the game with a cameo by half of DFA slash LCD Soundsystem mastermind, Mr. James Murphy. Is it me? I don't find this track an obvious single. After exploring electro-trip-pop on her debut album and subsequently following up with a blissful folk sophomore album, Emiliana Torrini lands squarely into pop territory with equal ease on her third collection. This single, directed by Blackdogs's Price James, is perhaps the most upbeat of the bunch, propelling the tempo forward with a urgent bass guitar riff and an immediate melodic hook. Hand made jungle flora abound with a similar playfulness and hyperreality that seems signature to the Icelandic imagination. Watch the music video (qt).

Sia seems to be a subject for self abuse. This video, in collaboration with fellow Australian Kris Moyes, is a perfect demonstration of that hog-tied, condom-over-head wearing, double-sided tape face melting mentality. But her collaborations have usually been top shelf: multiple silky down tempo wondertracks with Zero 7 and the recent killer dance floor stormer with Lauren Flax. But now that old self abuse habit seems to have kicked in with the news of collaboration with pop strumpet Christina Aguilera. Admittedly, Christina has some of the best pipes in pop music, but the oily slickness of top forty overwrought production still hampens any zeal for artistic credibility. I suppose its all a process. On that note, cliptip darlings Ladytron and Goldfrapp are also rumoured to be ensnared in Ms. Aguilera's coolness diluting web. Time will tell. Watch the music video (qt).

Vancouver art star Jeremy Shaw has returned to the musical stage under his Circlesquare moniker. After the disolution of Output records, the fate of the abstract electronic project looked unclear. After being featured on the soundtrack for gaming title Need For Speed, and a decampment from native Vancouver to current cultural hotbed Berlin, this project is back on the rails, signed to K7, and features the bolder, brasher, live sounds prototyped with the Fight Sounds ep. Schoolmate and long-time visual collaborator Bienvenido Cruz lenses the minimal music video, inspired by the artwork of Robert Longo series, Men In The Cities. And, yes, you may recognize the faces some of dancers - Miles Faber and Vincent Noiseux of the premier season of So You Think You Can Dance Canada. Them kids can move. Watch the music video (qt).

If you were waiting for a new The Knife record, you will be pleased with the debut of Fever Ray. Karin Dreijer Andersson, half of the brother-sister duo, has released a solo outing under the Fever Ray guise, and stakes out off-shoot territory: slightly less electro, but equally moody and sinister. The production style is signature in darkness, but with tinges of more organic motifs and ambient construction. The video is directed by long time collaborate and fellow Swede, Andreas Nilsson.
