A simple technique practiced for as few as 10 minutes per day can help you control stress, decrease anxiety, improve cardiovascular health, and achieve a greater capacity for relaxation.

The meditative technique called the "relaxation response" was pioneered in the U.S. by Harvard physician Herbert Benson in the 1970s. The technique has gained acceptance by physicians and therapists worldwide as a valuable adjunct to therapy for symptom relief in conditions ranging from cancer to AIDS.

When our bodies are exposed to a sudden stress or threat, we respond with a characteristic "fight or flight" response. This is sometimes called an "adrenaline rush" because the hormones epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine are released from the adrenal glands, resulting in an increase in blood pressure and pulse rate, faster breathing, and increased blood flow to the muscles.

The relaxation response is a technique designed to elicit the opposite bodily reaction from the "fight or flight" response -- a state of deep relaxation in which our breathing, pulse rate, blood pressure, and metabolism are decreased. Training our bodies on a daily basis to achieve this state of relaxation can lead to enhanced mood, lower blood pressure, and reduction of lifestyle stress.

The relaxation response technique consists of the silent repetition of a word, sound, or phrase while sitting quietly with eyes closed for 10 to 20 minutes. This should be done in a quiet place free of distractions. Sitting is preferred to lying down in order to avoid falling asleep. Relax your muscles starting with the feet and progressing up to your face. Breathe though your nose in a free and natural way.

You can choose any word or phrase you like. You can use a sound such as "om," a word such as "one" or "peace," or a word with special meaning to you. Intruding worries or thoughts should be ignored or dismissed to the best of your ability by focusing on the repetition. It's OK to open your eyes to look at a clock while you are practicing, but do not set an alarm. When you have finished, remain seated, first with your eyes closed and then with your eyes open, and gradually allow your thoughts to return to everyday reality.

The technique requires some practice and may be difficult at first, but over time almost anyone can learn to achieve the desired state of relaxation. Dr. Benson, who originally described the technique, recommends practicing the technique once or twice a day. He recommends not practicing the relaxation response within two hours after eating a meal because the digestive process may interfere with the technique.

The relaxation response can also be elicited through other meditative and relaxation techniques. No matter how the relaxation state is achieved, the physical and emotional consequences of stress can be reduced through regular practice.

Many people believe prayer is a way to communicate directly with a spiritual energy or higher being. Prayer can be silent, as in meditation, or spoken aloud in a group, as in a religious setting. Prayer may help people find an inner sense of meaning, or it may strengthen their belief in a higher being. Prayer may feel very supportive to people faced with life-changing problems, such as cancer.

What is prayer used for?

Many established religions view prayer as a powerful tool in helping a wide range of physical or mental problems.

Prayer can be an expression of gratitude or a sincere request for help. You can use prayer for a positive outcome in a situation or for inner strength during difficult times in life.

Health benefits, such as lower blood pressure, increased longevity, and reduced risk for depression, may occur in people who regularly practice their spiritual faith or who are part of a religious community.

Is prayer safe?

Some people believe prayer has the power to heal physical and mental illness. Some claims of medical "miracles" have been attributed to the use of prayer.

Some people, depending on their belief in prayer, may experience a feeling of inner strength or power when they engage in prayer.

Some studies that measured the effect of prayer have shown positive health effects.

Other studies are inconclusive.
When combined with conventional medical treatment, prayer is not thought to have any negative side effects or complications.

Prayer can be used alongside conventional treatment, but not in place of it.

Always tell your doctor if you are using an alternative therapy or if you are thinking about combining an alternative therapy with your conventional medical treatment.

It may not be safe to forgo your conventional medical treatment and rely only on an alternative theraphy.

Meditation has been used for thousands of years in herbal medicine to help people overcome a number of different problems they know. One thing that meditation can be more effective in the treatment, however, is a condition known as clinical depression. This is good news for those of us who have been with him for many years and think properly, can actually be able to successfully cope with the depression that most people said could never be rid of him.

The first thing we have discussed, however, is that all meditation is a useful exercise in overcoming depression. Some people think that meditation is to clear your mind of all thought, when in reality, it's just a way to relax your mind, calm the individual in an efficient manner. If you let your mind wanders when you are just meditating, it will undoubtedly go for something that eventually launch a more depressed. It 'important to ensure that you are meditating correctly when you are dealing with depression.

One of the best things you can possibly do to use meditation in overcoming depression is to focus on something positive. This may be something that is very relaxing your mind, like a favorite place or maybe a good time, but it can also be something that stimulates the pleasure on our part. Ability to effectively maintain your mind of these thoughts you can not really do much to boost morale and puts it back in the right direction.

Overcoming Depression with Meditation is a little practice, but most people feel they are able to feel a little better, even after their first session. Even if you are dealing with a lifestyle, you can always take a little time each day and time so that you will be able to meditate in this way. In doing so, you find that you are able to cope with depression may be able to remove some extent.

Magic Music Meditation

Have you noticed how the music makes the tasks and other activities less tiring by the minute?
But why is related with meditation? Meditation is a personal devotion and excursions that is used to improve mental well-being through and spirituality. It is often perceived as sitting for hours and not think of anything at all. But for the sake of being able to concentrate, most people use mantras (sacred song lyrics) during meditation. Other practitioners use prayer beads similar to the Rosary. Some teachers think meditation mantras are cheaters, those who can not relax without having to use words as a distraction from the thoughts of others. For those who are too busy to which it is difficult to sit for hours and try not to think about anything, meditation music can also be used. Often referred to as instant meditation. But the meditation music has its own advantages.
All practices of yoga, there are two principles: Raja Yoga and Hatha Yoga.

Even if the two are connected, Raja Yoga is the largest of meditation, as it allows overcoming the inner nature. The true meaning of yoga is the union is the union of a same or Jeevata and Paramatma.

A fundamental asana is good to resist heart disease is Pathmasan. Pathmasan position is like a lotus position. Most of the positions of sitting Buddha is commonly seen in him. All former Maharishi use this position because during the flow of energy, and meditation
Vedanta in the literal translation is "the end of the Vedas." The Vedas are the religious texts of Hinduism. It is divided into two parts, the Karma Kanda (working section) and Jnana Kanda (the section on knowledge).

Upanishads are the knowledge section.

It is believed that the Vedanta philosophy is hard to do in his life. But it is possible to some extent. In general, we are aware of morality and ethics. If you can not practice courtesy, courage, commitment, and has a good character, then you're halfway through.
It is said that the highest truth is still there, but because it is the ignorance of a man of the dark. In practice, this may still dark, little by little, turn off the light. The more one becomes aware of the ultimate reality, is a bright vision. It is said that when the returns of individual closed his eyes, sees the various colors of the prism those otherwise enlightened who can see only darkness.
Or is there a better alternative to see replays on TV?

Well, for some, this may be true. However, for those who practice meditation with a strong conviction, the benefits of meditation is much more than to sleep quickly. Basically, meditation has been designed to help free his mind from the constant conflicts of life. He promises to give people a deeper sense of relaxation and a better control of themselves. The benefits of meditation even includes understanding of oneself as perceived as a process that will lead people to self-awareness.

Scientific studies have even found explanations to confirm some of the benefits of meditation. These studies show that meditation shifts activity in the brain of some of the stress and quieter areas of the brain. This mental exercise reduces the effects of stress, anxiety and depression. They also discovered that the brain deals with less fear because of changes in brain activity.

There are benefits of meditation, most people find very useful. The first is that it makes a person free from the bondage of past trauma that causes a feeling of having "unfinished business" and impede the current growth. With these you can also enjoy the simple pleasures, each moment brings.

The benefits of meditation efforts to end things that we do not, or feelings that we have not lived. Rather, they teach us to appreciate the present. Meditation is just an easy way to caution us back time and then let go.

Given the benefits of meditation, many people with psychological problems have found an ally in this practice in mind. It says it is able to get out of a depression. And it gives us a deeper understanding of us, meditation also encourages people to quit their addiction to vices, assisting in their healing and recovery, and to live better and healthier.

Some health experts have found that people who have been diagnosed to suffer from too much stress and anxiety extremes should not be treated with medication. The benefits of meditation was again demonstrated in the study of these people. They found that engaging in meditation is a good protection against panic attacks.

Many people have different things to say about meditation. Although there are many techniques of meditation, they should all receive the same treatment. They are not designed to solve our problems or make life carefree. They are here, so we become more accepting of life and its challenges.

3 Benefits of Japa Meditation!

What is one of the most effective and powerful ways to start a Meditation practice?

For many, they have found their lives transformed when they have incorporated a Japa Meditation practice into their daily lives and have a experienced a variety of different benefits because of it.

In this article, you will learn about 3 of the many benefits that practicing a Japa Meditation daily can bring into your life.

3 Benefits of Japa Meditation!

Japa Meditation Benefit #1 - Tendency towards Feelings of safety and peace - In this information age that we live in all it takes to recognize a lack of peace and safety throughout the world is turning on your TV or opening your home page on the internet.

Yet, what is your experience in regards to safety and peace in this moment now?

Have you even slowed down enough in your life to recognize what is in this moment now?

Well guess what, when you begin to practice Japa Meditation daily you will become aware of that inner feeling of safety and peace that you have with you in all ways, always.

More than that, you will also begin to notice how that feeling of safety and peace spreads throughout your entire body and into your life now in this physical world of reality as well.

Japa Meditation Benefit #2 - Tendency towards compassion and empathy for others - When your practice of daily meditation begins to become a part of your daily life and you begin to become connected to who you really are you will find yourself experiencing a state of compassion and empathy for others in ways that you never have experienced before.

More than that, you will begin to have these feelings for people that you may not have had it for before in more empowering ways for both you and them.

Japa Meditation Benefit #3 - A Tendency towards Healthy Interpersonal Relationships - It's both funny and amazing how in this particular case the first benefit plus the second benefit can ultimately lead up to this third benefit.

Once you feel safe and at peace with both yourself and the world around you it opens you up to a greater sense of understanding of others in addition to a more compassion and empathy for others.

Of course, those two benefits combined make you a great (fill in the blank relationship here) as you not only can empathize with others in a compassionate way you also feel safe and at peace with yourself in a way that allows you to maintain your power and control when necessary.

In other words, when you begin to practice a Japa meditation daily you will begin to experience the kinds of benefits that expand your reality in an entirely new and empowering way.

And as if that wasn't enough it isn't just this kind of meditation technique that has this kind of power and beneficial effect which means it is in your best interest to go to that place deep within yourself and one of the most effective ways of doing that is by experiencing the power of meditation in whatever way that you can.

The basic breathing techniques of Raja yoga to gain control over the mind and experience deep meditation are outlined below.

Karma, Bhakti, Jnana, and Raja Yoga are considered the four main yogas, but there are many other types. (The word "yoga" - from the Sanskrit root yuj ("to yoke") - is generally translated as "union of the individual atma (loosely translated to mean soul) with Paramatma, the universal soul." This may be understood as union with the Divine by integration of body, mind, and spirit.

Raja Yoga involves exact meditation techniques which lead to experiences of the truth and finally achieve liberation, described in Hindu thought as moksha. ( or liberation from the cycle of birth and death).

Raja Yoga is a very practical guide for gaining control over the mind.

Raja Yoga getting control of the mind

Without this control, meditation is not possible, and therefore the goal of any yoga, unattainable.

Moreover in The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, "Yogas chitta vritti nirodhah," or, "The restraint of the modifications of the mind-stuff is Yoga! Raja Yoga shows how to achieve this.

8 Principles of Raja Yoga

Raja Yoga is also known as Ashtanga (8 limbed) Yoga which refers to the eight principles which are:

Yama; or the Code of conduct - that is, self-restraint

Niyama; religious observances - commitments to practice, study and devotion

Asana: integration of mind and body through physical activity

Pranayama: regulation of breath leading to integration of mind and body

Pratyahara: abstraction of the senses, withdrawal of the senses of perception from their objects

Dharana; concentration, one-pointedness of mind

Dhyana: meditation (quiet and non-sensual activity that leads to samadhi)

Samadhi; the quiet state of blissful awareness, superconscious state

It must be remarked that although called eight-limbed, it is really a Royal Road to self-realization, with each limb leading into the next, ending with the goal, or Samadhi (and the union sought).

Raja Yoga taking control

More easily explained, first you must learn self-control.
Without it nothing that follows is possible. In conjunction with the self-control, you must practice religious observances, and seek to expand your quality of devotion. These two lead to Asana, or an integration of mind and body.

At this stage, you are ready to begin control over the breath, which is main life force that animates our existence.
As in each subsequent practice led the way to the next, so this stage prepares one for crucial stage of meditation.

Control of the breath is basic to this, and indeed, automatically assists in the next phase of Pratyahara, where you learn to turn off all the senses, and become internalized (not affected by sensatory stimulation).

This is the control you need to approach Dharana, or single-pointedness. From this point, meditation is said to begin. All the rest was preparatory for it and to it.

Raja Yoga getting to meditation

Finally one arrives at Dhyana, which is mediation. Your senses are internalized, your breath is controlled, your mind is thus free from the "stuff" that keeps it perpetually busy.

Once in true mediation, the road leads directly to Samadhi. In Samadhi you are in harmony with all creation, and non-creation, and are yourself the five principles or Yamas, which are:
Ahimsa - of the refraining from injury (non-life supporting action)

Satya - which is truthfulness

Asteya - of the freedom from stealing

Bramacharya - which is living within the Self (moderation; abstinence)

Aparigraha - or the freedom from attachment to possessions
Having attained this, you are considered in perfection and able to feel one with your creator. This is the goal of all yoga, but in Royal Yoga, the path is easily set out, and if followed without deviation, you may arrive just there.

Shamans have always known that the answers we seek can be found within. Bypassing the stumbling blocks of the outer, material world, they perfected techniques of accessing higher mind levels to find answers, gain insights and achieve profound understandings.

WHY JOURNEY?

The shamanic journey is a technique for accessing higher mind levels to get answers on questions that are important to you, to gain insights and achieve profound understandings. It is a great tool also to use for training the body and mind to enter deep states of total relaxation. At a minimum, you will learn how to release stress and to help heal your total being.

THE SHAMANIC JOURNEY

A shamanic journey enables you to enter a meditative type state, but it is not really "meditation" as meditation is understood and used today. Most meditations are limited or ineffective. Common meditation practices require the person to sit or lie still, and when deeper levels of meditation are reached, the person falls asleep or is nearly comatose. Also typical meditation practices can not be used in a dynamic, moving way.

A journey is not an end result, but a bridge to the higher self---a force that is always there to guide us. The objective is to avoid getting stuck on the bridge, as is the case with common meditations. You want to cross this bridge between the sub-conscious mind and the higher mind. Once you do, you need to be active rather than passive. That is, you want to ask for guidance, answers and any help that you deeply desire in your life.

PREPARING FOR A JOURNEY

Before beginning a journey, you are advised to focus on a specific question or a subject that you need help with. Your questions can range from the sublime, such as asking what you can do to become enlightened, to the most practical, such as asking about a work related issue.

Have a purpose for your journey. Imagine that you are going to talk to a very old wise man or woman. You will want to be patient, respectful, calm and receptive to everything this wise being has to say.

You can pose your question in one of these ways:

• Will this job offer be a wise decision for me and my family?
• How will the problems in my relationship be resolved?
• How can I make money in an easier and stress-free way that brings me greater happiness?

How A Typical Journey Is Done

Here's a brief description of how a typical shamanic journey is done: When you are first learning to journey, you sit down or preferably lie down in a relaxing space. In the beginning, it is best to close your eyes and have relaxing music in the background to help you focus. You are guided to follow a relaxation process that includes breathing exercises and releasing body tension. You then imagine a place in nature, such as a forest or desert, where you walk down a path until you reach an entrance, such as a cave opening or an arch that is part of the earth. Once you walk through the entrance, you are guided to use all your senses as you enter a deeply relaxed state. As you journey, you pose a question that is important to you. By accessing a higher mind state, you access messages, insights and guidance that you may not access during normal waking states.

It is advisable to follow a step-by-step guide when you are first learning to journey. Once you train your mind to do shamanic journeys, you can journey by yourself at any time and any place, even while you walk.

The shamanic journey is used for communicating with your higher self--with Spirit. It is practiced to retrieve information from the higher realms of the mind. From ancient times, shamans have used the process of journeying to travel within to access answers, insights, guidance and help from the spiritual realm.
If it is your first time to meditate, take some time and accept that you need to start somewhere. Your house, a secluded place dedicated for meditation, and your bathroom are not just the only places where you can have some meditation exercises. You could also meditate right at your very desk. Check out some of the several meditation techniques that you could do while you are at work.

Relaxed State

You need to reach a very relaxed state before starting meditation. When you are not relaxed your whole meditation process could not be successful.

Close Your Eyes

After you reached the relaxed state, you then need to close your eyes. Closing your eyes aids mental focus in meditation. When your eyes are open, persons or things could distract and disturb your meditation.

Slow Breathing

Be aware of each breath that you take. Make sure to take a long, slow deep breath in and then exhale slowly. You could also count every breath for a few seconds. When you consciously breathe you will be amazed how soon you become relaxed.

Focus On One Thing

While you are at your working chair beside your desk, eyes closed and breathing slowly, you then try to focus only on one thing. It could be the noises that your co-workers make, the sounds of the music playing on your computer, or the laughter from your boss' office. It is perfectly normal if your focus drift but when you become aware of the drift, immediately try to bring the focus back.

No-worry

When meditating, try not to worry about your deadlines, problems, health issues, and other troubles that stress you out. You could even try not to think at all. This technique is similar to petit mal seizure where your mind goes blank but only for a short period of time. You will be surprised how you will feel light after just a few minutes of thinking about nothing.

Be happy and stay stress-free by exercising some meditation techniques while you are at work. Do these techniques ten minutes a day may it be during your lunch break or coffee break and see some results.
The two important aspects though, in order to extract the wonderful benefits from meditation, is that the practice needs to be consistent and long term. To that end, one of the biggest obstacles to a long term, daily meditation practice, is the lack of a meditation space in your home.

This article will help you overcome this issue by providing helpful insights on how to set up your personal meditation space. Having such a meditation space, vastly increases the chances that you will develop a consistent and deep practice. The space helps counteract some of the resistance that thoughts will no doubt put up in your efforts to practice meditation on a daily basis. Having an inviting, inspiring meditation space ready to go, allows you to get busy with your session as soon as it's time or as soon as inspiration strikes.

Here are the 3 key components for setting up this important, sacred space in your home.

1. Find a Quiet Space: Try to find a quiet, peaceful place in your home to set up your meditation space. Meditation and spiritual growth can be called the business of silence. Although, the silence you will encounter in meditation practice is that of the infinite creative force, silence in the environment will help you with the concentration required to penetrate into these depths. So, as best you can, ensure that the area is situated such as to minimize sounds and distractions.

2. Get the Right Equipment: Yes, just like a professional tennis player needs the right equipment in order to perform at his maximum potential, so will the right equipment help you achieve your highest spiritual potential. This equipment includes important items such as a Zafu or meditation cushion, loose clothing that will not cut off your circulation, a chair if necessary, and a meditation timer to set your meditation time with.

Don't underestimate the benefits of the above items. When your meditation practice deepens, you will like to sit for longer periods of time, and this can prove to be uncomfortable on your knees and back. A Zafu or chair will go a long way in helping curb this problem. Proper clothing, for similar reasons, is also very helpful. One of the most common complaints in sitting meditation, is that one's legs tend to fall asleep and having proper meditative attire will help prevent this.

A meditation timer is also a must. Once you commit to sitting for a particular period of time, you need to see that through. Early in your practice, the body and mind will greatly dislike being told what to do in this way. They are both used to running the show, and all of a sudden being told to be still and concentrate on a particular thing is going to greatly upset them. The timer should be the only factor determining the end of your meditation session. Until it goes off, you should remain frozen in time and attentive to your practice. The timer will also be of value in helping you gauge your capacity to sit in meditation for long periods of time.

3. Add Inspirational Items: Place items in this location that inspire and uplift you. They can be anything from pictures, idols, symbols to books. You may also wish to keep some incense or a candle handy, as that can greatly enhance the ambiance of a meditative space.

Summary:

A personal meditative space is a must. There is very little chance of establishing a strong and significant practice without it. Over time, you will find this space filled with positive vibrations and just entering it will uplift your spirit. Try to keep this space clean and exclusively for meditation, this might just become your favorite place on Earth.
Why the world is the way it is? Why there are so few masters, who try to point the way, and only a few realize it and become enlighten. We are all on a path. As people age they only get bits and pieces of the Great Way. The mind has everything to do with it. Control the mind is the key. There is great wisdom in the words, "Peace Be Still." Can you find the moments when you were truly happy, with no problems were present? The only time basketball players, tennis players, and baseball players are happy is when they are in the moment of action. Think about it. They have no thoughts about themselves except for the moment, the present in their life situation.

When no thoughts enter your mind, you are free of psychological time of past and future. You are living in the NOW. There is nothing more important in your life except the present. The NOW.

Know the wisdom of the now. The following wisdom consist of Duality, Resonance, Ecology, Stratification, Magnanimity, and Aggregation. What are these teachings? Do we need them? Yes! "The Power of Wisdom: The Magic of Seeing What Others Can't," by Aman Motware, makes a cleaver statement that will free man's ignorance of the materialistic world that will bring enlightenment in our complex society, and escaping this insanity.

Most people think that having more of this or that material substance will make them happy. The bird is content with his life situation. All animals are content with their life situation. Only man is discontent with his life situation. Look at yourself when you were a child throughout your years in school. You were uneducated, immature, unhappy, not knowing how to be complete in yourself. You thought you needed outside interest, things, and people to make you happy. You were conditioned to deal in "psychological time."

Notice the insanity at any inner city schools. Notice the behavior of the students. Most of them can't stop talking about negative issues. Visit a class and take notes. Go out of inner city schools. Believe me you will notice a difference. The public school system is a lot different then private school system or an academy. A catholic school and a school run by Scientology staff at an academy is like hot and warm. Notice the student body. You will find your gems at the private schools, but they are only a few and far between. I witness this little fifth grade student was always very quiet and to her self completing all her assignments. Even at recess and lunch she would be very quiet while other students around her would be too busy playing, being loud and doing foolish things. Her stillness was pure beauty. She was always polite, not complaining, just being the perfect student. I have found those gems in all races, creeds, and ethnic groups.

The mind makes too much noise. Peace is still. Enter a state of consciousness and sustain it in everyday life. Rid yourself of compulsive thinking. Most people do it. Other people talk to themselves aloud. Just as the normal most people live in a state of apparent separateness in an insanely complex world of continuous problems and conflict. Their world reflects the ever-increasing fragmentation of the mind.

An individual who is a difficult negative person, is unconscious most of the time. You will know exactly where this individual is headed. The behavior was is predictable. I became to know that how a person responds to you are dependent on how you communicate with each person. Each time communication is initiated sets the stage for how the other person responds. You are not just the effect, but both cause and effect. This is real in nature. You need to accept responsibility that anther person's inappropriate behavior towards you is the result of our own behavior. Don't waste futile energy trying to assign blame. Instead I needed to focus on modifying my reaction and behavior to create the effect warranted.

You don't need the insanity in your life, and you need to know when to walk away. You don't throw pearls to the swine, as an old wise saying goes. It is best to know all kinds of people; no matter what station they are in life. We learn from each other. You can learn the patterns of behavior from all ethnic groups. Each group is programmed to think and feel a certain way. Our backgrounds, trauma, experiences, and pain shape the mind-body.

L. Ron Hubbard and many others before him recognized how insane our society is and term the phrase "Clear" where he recognized the reactive mind is keeping us from a state of complete spiritual freedom from the endless cycle of birth and death.

Einstein has said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results." Man has not learned this lesson, because man continues to fall prey to the Devil. The Devil rules on planet earth. Only a few will escape his grasp. The church will not teach you the way, because they also are under the rule of the Devil. A popular comedy TV show had the character say when ever he did something bad, "The Devil made me do it." That would always get a laugh.

Following will be the techniques to rid us of the mind-body, which has caused so much misery in the world that has brought on death and destruction caused by our insanity. The Ancients have revealed the way, but only a few get the code to release them of this insanity.

The Tech:

Realize that all the things that truly matter is beauty, love, creativity, joy inner peace--arise from beyond the mind. You begin to awaken. "Go make our temple" the bible tells us. Your body is the temple. (Corinthians 3:16) You are the temple of God. The books of the Ancients are the complete things around the sub-conscious. Higher Consciousness is Christ Consciousness.

The science of Yoga is the ordinary science of divine harmony of the Soul energy of gentleman additionally to his Maker. Jesus went to India, and studied the science of Yoga, and taught disciples how to tap into the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God. He said, "The Kingdom of God is within you." "That which is impenetrable to us really exists. The religion of the future, Einstein had predicted, will be a cosmic religion. It will transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology." Jesus said, 'Nothing is hidden that will not be made known, nor secret that will not come to light.'

The informing power of the Mother of creation is Maya, cosmic delusion that transforms one spirit into myriad manifestations in material creation. Man had free choice. God created a wondrous human form to be changed by cosmic energy, and to live in a free, unconditioned divine state; but Satan created hunger and the lure of sensory indulgence. For mental power, Satan substituted mental temptation for soul's wisdom, Satan contrived perplexing ignorance; for the grandeur of nature, Satan's countered with potentialities of warfare, disease, pestilence, earthquakes, floods, and a horde of dissenters.

Reincarnation assumes freedom, for it gives immortal souls ample time and opportunities to divest themselves of all false notions of earthly fulfillment, and to realize through wisdom their already perfect divine natures. With the expiration of desires and karmic consequences from wrong determinations they will be liberated.

Now for the escape! Follow these steps outline by Patanjali, an exponent of Raja Yoga. Enter the Kingdom of God within.

1. Yama: moral conduct: abstaining from injury to others, falsehood, stealing, incontinence, and covetousness.

2. Nijame: purity of body and mind, contentment in all circumstances, self-study (contemplation and devotion to God.

The above steps yield self-control and mental calmness.

3. Asna: discipline the body to be able to maintain the correct posture for meditation without fatigue or physical and mental restlessness. (If you have a back injury or ailment use a chair with a back for support sitting erect with palms up resting on the knees).

4. Paramayama: Techniques of life force control that calm the heart and breath and remove sensory distractions from the mind.

5. Pratyahana: the power of complete mental internalization and stillness resulting from withdrawal of the mind from the senses.

6. Dhanana: the power to use the interior mind to become one-pointedly concentrated upon God in one of His aspects through which He reveals Himself to the inward perception of the devotee.

7. Dhyana: mediation deepened by the intensity of concentration (dharana) that gives the conception of the vastness of God, His attributes as manifested in His endless expansion of cosmic consciousness.

8. Samadhi: union with God: the full realization of the soul's oneness with spirit.(Yoganada, The Second Coming of Christ: the resurrection of the Christ within you:2004, 182)

The reader can find access to the Kingdom of Heaven, and the Kingdom of God in the following: Matthew 13:1-53, Matthew 13:44-46, Luke 12:20-21. Why Jesus speaks in parables, see Matthew 13:10-13.

The Bible and the ancient texts are all about the mind reaching a Christ Consciousness beyond the material world. You change the mind for a higher consciousness, you change the world. Are we headed for an economic collapse? Are we in a period of unprecedentedly danger, as nations with nuclear weapons become unstable, and terrorists can buy or steal the power to destroy our cities? Are the Motion Picture Industry telling us what to expect? Do these movies"The Book of Eli," and "The Road," tell the story of what man is capable of doing to the world? The truth is hidden right in front of us through movies and television shows, such as Star Gate. Why all the secrecy? The power brokers know what is happening. The dark side is at work, to keep us in bondage and to enslave the masses. To escape this insanity you need to go within. To enter the Kingdom of God, you need to meditate, and be still.
Meditation involves turning distracted attention to a single point of reference. Meditation is also one of the medium or path to attain the ultimate spirituality and enlightenment. Buddhism has extensive study and references on meditation. In Buddhism, meditation is the path to achieve the ultimate peace that each soul looks for. Buddhist texts have recommended various meditation techniques. Buddhist meditation has expanded and evolved for more than thousand years. Some of the great human virtues like concentration, introspection, tranquility and mindfulness are developed with these meditation techniques.

Benefits of Buddhist meditation techniques are availed by Buddhists and people from other religion and communities. Buddhism mentions that meditation is a path to attain enlightenment and nirvana.

Non followers of Buddhism pursue meditation for mental and physical well being. Buddhist meditation is used by medical science to treat disorders of human mind.

Since Buddhist meditation techniques are free from any authoritative doctrines, they are widely used across the world. They are used for spiritual and health requirements.

Theravada tradition in Buddhism devised ninety methods of developing concentration and mindfulness. Similarly, the Tibetan tradition has thousands of meditation methods developing the visionary qualities in an individual.

In Buddhism, mindfulness meditation can be obtained by noble eight fold path of Buddha. It will develop right concentration, right introspection, right view about things and right mindfulness.

One of the important inferences or suttas in Buddhism is the Sattipathana sutta. In this Buddha outlined four foundations towards attaining mindfulness. These four foundations are the body, state of the mind, mental objects and feelings. Body is divided into breathing, postures, clear comprehending, reflection on repulsiveness of the body, reflection on material elements and contemplation regarding the cemetery. Mental objects are further divided into hindrances, aggregates, sense-bases, factors of enlightenment and four noble truths.

Serenity and insight are the two qualities of the mind attained through meditation. They are the two swift messengers of nibbana.

Buddha preached forty methods of meditation. Each individual needs to select the method that will suit his mind.

Meditation practices from others like Zongmi typology are included by Buddhism in its meditation techniques. Though different meditation techniques appear to be the same externally, they differ internally with respect to the motive and purpose. There are five types of meditative techniques namely Ordinary, Outside Way, Small Vehicle, Great Vehicle and Supreme Vehicle.

One of the greatest teachers of the western Buddhist order is Kamalashila. He mentioned that there are five basic methods of meditation. They are mindfulness of breathing, metta bhavana including all four Brahma viharas, contemplation of impermanence, contemplation of conditionality and six element practices. Contemplation of impermanence is further divided into four parts. They are contemplation of decomposing corpse, reflection on death and reflection of the Tibetan book of dead's which is named as 'Root Verses'.

Buddhist meditation techniques, such as mindfulness meditation are widely varied to suit any individual needs. Practicing them will help you attain tranquility of mind, general well being and spiritual blessings.
This involves being aware of how you are walking and also examining every detail, interior and exterior. One of the main things which separate walking meditation from sitting down is that you will have your eyes open while doing this. In Zen walking they may be half closed, but still you are able to see where you are going.

You will still need to pay attention to some of the basics, such as your breathing and what you are focusing on. Where you walk can be incredibly important, simply because you want to feel comfortable and allow yourself to relax. Removing all of the tension from your body is key in being successful with this type of meditation.

Because one of your main goals will be to relax yourself physically and mentally, it can sometimes be difficult to still be aware of what is going on around you. This is why walking meditation requires a lot of focus and patience to master it. Many people who have been doing it for years still do not consider themselves "masters" of walking meditation, however the more you do it the better you will get at it. This kind of meditation is all about tapping in to your physical body and being aware of each movement you make during your meditation session.

If you have done sitting meditation in the past, then you will need to pick up some new skills for walking meditation. Sitting down allows you to block out the physical world, because you do not need to see what is around you. When you are doing meditation while walking, you will need to bring your consciousness up to a whole new level. This requires much practice, concentration, and focus. You will be able to use every day situations in your life for practice, such as walking to your car. The mind gets more active once we leave the cushion so it is a challenge.

In Zen meditation there is a section after the sitting meditation where there is often a 5 minute slow walk in a circle. You continue to meditate but you are doing this as a group in a circle. It helps to get practicing in carrying the inner calmness into daily life. As a side benefit you get to stretch your legs and back after sitting and prepare for the next round of sitting. Another school where there is walking meditation is Breathwalk. In this you use a mantra and special hand positions to keep your focus inside.

Don't forget you can do walking meditation in many contexts. Even doing cardio exercise can be a great opportunity for you to do walking meditation. Whether you are on a treadmill or simply walking around your neighborhood, it's always a chance for you to get better at it. One of the goals of walking meditation is to allow your body to relax completely and let yourself become one with your mind and body. It can be highly beneficial for those who feel that they are constantly stressed and need something to help them out.

Healing Meditation

Healing meditation is a form of meditation that heals your soul, body and mind altogether. It makes use of specific breathing ways and mental images that help keep you calm and composed. You may intertwine many other processes in your healing meditation to give you a peaceful sense of self. Once you attain this state, focusing on your life goals and getting rid of all mental agonies becomes very simple. You will get results in a short span of time if you devote time to practicing the meditation daily.

How to perform Healing Meditation

It is very simple to perform healing meditation. You do not need any expensive kit or professional help to get started. All it takes to perform this meditation is your dedication and a little time. Firstly, you need to allocate time and place for performing the meditation. Choose a place where you'll be free from all the worldly distractions and no one will interrupt your focus. Remember, focus is very important for effective meditation. You could lie down on your bed or sit out in the porch.

Commence the practice with some breathing exercises. There are many breathing drills to choose from. These exercises help you reach a calm state, regardless of what your present mood is. For a simple breathing exercise, try starting with this one.

1. Focus on your nasal openings and on the top portion of your upper lip.
2. Take a slow, deep breath. Hold your breath inside your lungs for 10 seconds.
3. Slowly exhale, letting your breath out for ten seconds
4. Repeat the procedure for eight to ten minutes.

Focus on your chakra to get your emotions in tact. Chakra is considered the center energy or the center of spiritual power in a body. Chakra has seven different parts which are easily thrown out of balance by everyday stress. You may also work on some mental images to overcome your mental anxiety. Think about floating colors, momentous life occasions or pleasant music. Avoid thinking about upsetting incidents as they will distress you more.

Dedicate eight to ten minutes everyday to healing meditation. Try to perform this practice at the same time. In a few weeks, you'll begin to see significant improvement in your attitude towards life. Your stress level will also reduce, and you'll feel spiritually light.

There are a number of other techniques for healing meditation. Find one that works best for you after doing a little research.

End Word

You may want to observe the progress that you make from meditation. You could maintain a journal for this. Record the changes that occur in your life through meditation.

At the time of this writing, Rachel has been meditating for about a year. In that time, she's seen many astounding near-instant results. She's found her way to her purpose (which she believes has to do with helping people discover their spirituality), has had greater relationships, released weight, and is overall a LOT happier.
Each energy point relates to certain aspects of our lives which can be enhanced and improved through meditation.

Whether you realize it or not, your Chakras are at work within your body constantly. They influence your mental as well as your physical state. By paying special attention to these areas, you can influence them to improve certain aspects of your life. Let us take a look at each of the 7 Chakras in detail and which areas of your body and life they can influence:

The Root Chakra

This is the first Chakra, located at the very base of the spine. It symbolizes the energy of the earth flowing into the body and is the correlation between our physical presence and the material world. The colour synonymous with the Root Chakra is red and it is associated with health, protection and well-being. Meditating on this Chakra or the colour red will enhance these areas in your life.

The Naval Chakra

This Chakra is located just above the Root Chakra, in the lower part of the abdomen. It signifies energies associated with sexuality, happiness, love, compassion, sympathy and understanding. Its corresponding colour is orange. Feelings associated with giving and receiving are tied to this Chakra. Meditating on this Chakra or the colour orange will allow you to control emotions.

The Solar Plexus Chakra

Located above the Naval Chakra just below the chest, this point focuses on willpower and self-transformation. The power of the subconscious mind, discipline of the ego and ability to control one's self all emanate from this Chakra, which is associated with the colour yellow. Meditate on this one to control your external circumstances as well as your self esteem.

The Heart Chakra

Associated with the colour green, it signifies energy associated with kind nature, forgiveness and unconditional love which extends beyond the physical realm. This Chakra is located in the middle of the chest and centres around perseverance, harmony and patience. Meditating on this Chakra will allow you to heal pain through the power of love.

The Throat Chakra

Located just below the chin in the throat. It symbolizes the power of all forms of communication and how qualities like truth, nobility, character and wisdom can be conveyed with the correct purpose and respect. It is associated with the colour sky blue and also revolves around extra sensory communication. Meditating on this Chakra will allow you to express yourself truthfully at all times.

The Brow Chakra

Symbolizes intuition, insight, instinct and how the mind perceives the soul. Concentrating on this Chakra will give you peace of mind and stimulate your imagination. The colour synonymous with this Chakra is indigo and relates to spiritual guidance and direction. Meditating on it will allow you to access the path to your inner wisdom.

The Crown Chakra

The northern most Chakra in the body, located at the top of the head. It signifies the relationship between the conscious mind and its surroundings. The highest powers of the mind and spirit can be reached by meditating on this Chakra. Its associated colour is violet and it also serves to encompass the entire body within the realms of spirituality.

By concentrating on each of these Chakras in turn, great strides can be made towards empowering yourself with the ability to control the physical and non-physical elements of the body. All of the Chakras absorb and emanate energy. Meditation is the process by which this transference of energy takes place.

When all 7 Chakras have been energized, the body and the mind become one. This is when they can be most influenced to enhance or improve your life, by thinking and meditating on positive outcomes.

Master your inner self through understanding your Chakras, concentrating on each one. Starting with the Root, work your way upwards. Using this form of meditation regularly will help you understand yourself and give your life purpose.
Buddhism teaches us that we have a third vehicle for sight into the Higher Planes that is located on our forehead between our physical eyes. The method of meditation necessary to achieve this is also known as Purusa Dhyan or attentional meditation. If we focus our attention on something we become more aware of that thing.

There are four elements to this - attention, vehicles (things to focus on), form of attentional principle and the wave of consciousness. Attention is what you focus on. Attentional principles are held in different vehicles. Some times they are centered in your pituitary gland where they rise to higher planes. It may have causal, astral and mental vehicles and at its deepest form it will act like a wave of consciousness. When you can access this wave you will open the third eye.

To properly access your third eye you will need to sit upright or in a lotus position on a comfortable couch and focus for three to five minutes on a series of points while monitoring your feelings at each level before moving on to the next point. With your eyes closed take three deep breaths and let each one out slowly while rotating your closed eyes between twenty and twenty five percent upward and look for a light to appear and count backwards from one hundred.

Here are some of the things to focus on while clearing your mind for third eye meditation. Focus on the sensations arising first from your environment, body, emotions, and thoughts at the present time. Be aware of the "I am" statements and the associated thoughts, feelings and emotions. Be aware of memories and emotions coming up from your subconscious along with present time being recorded in your memory.
However, there is a type of meditation that can be very effective at providing an energy boost, as we'll see in this article.

Have you ever been having a tiring day, and then you lie down and take a brief nap, and wake up feeling refreshed for hours afterwards? If so, you know the power of napping, which gives your mind and body a break and allows them to recharge naturally. Napping has its drawbacks however: if you sleep for too long, you can wake up feeling groggy and even worse than before you started. Also, it's not always practical to lie down and fall asleep.

Fortunately, there's a way to get the benefits of napping without actually going to sleep, and that's by using brainwave entrainment meditation.

In case you're not familiar with it already, brainwave entrainment involves exposure to a repetitive stimulus such as a sound recording featuring binaural beats or isochronic tones. These recordings contain sounds of specific frequencies which have a direct effect on your state of mind. This works thanks to a phenomenon called the 'frequency following response', which means that your brain has a tendency to adjust its own brainwave output to match the frequencies of the sounds it's hearing. Brain entrainment is used for many different purposes, and is a great way to experience many of the benefits of meditation without having to learn years mastering traditional techniques.

So how does this help you to increase your energy?

When you fall asleep for a nap, your brain activity slows down, passing through the alpha (8 - 12 Hz), theta (4 - 7 Hz) and finally the delta (< 4 Hz) brainwave stages - then you come back up to the higher frequencies associated with normal consciousness as you wake up. It is this progression, and especially the time spent in the delta State, which causes you to feel refreshed upon awakening.

By listening to brainwave entrainment recording that takes you down through a similar progression, you can experience the same benefits that a nap gives you without actually having to find a place to sleep. And because the recording is timed so you spend just the right amount of time in each stage, you won't wake up feeling groggy you're tired like you do after awakening in the wrong part of the sleep cycle.

Such energy boosting recordings are used in a similar way to any other type of meditation track. You simply find a quiet place where you can sit or lie down, close your eyes and relax as you listen to the recording through headphones. Unlike some other types of meditation, you don't have to actively visualise or do anything - just put your focus on the recording and let the sounds you're hearing do their work. The recording can be used regularly, or at any time when you're feeling in need of a pick me up.

If you decide to use this method to increase energy naturally, it's very important to use a good quality recording is designed for the purpose. I recommend the 'Energy Booster' tracks from http://www.brain-sync.com which are of great quality are fully guaranteed. There are free downloads available here as well, so you can try out the different formats (binaural beats, monaural beats and isochronic tones) and see which you like best.

Zen meditation is also referred to as Zazen. It is a type of meditation that works centrally. It is actually the study of oneself. Most Zen Buddhists are also referred to as “Zen”. When attaining enlightenment, Buddha was seen in seated meditation. Today, Zen meditation has come with the same seated meditating tradition.

This type of meditation was pursued for long 2500 years and passed on from one generation to the other. This has been considered to be the most important thing that has been passed on. It spread its wings from India to China, then Japan to rest of the Asia and finally to the western country.

Zen meditation has evolved as a boon to people across the globe who are really stressed out due to the irregularity, chaos and tensions existing in their daily life. It is a very simple practice. You will find it very easy to describe and more easy to follow.

However, just as other meditation practices, it takes your efforts to enjoy the benefits.

Human beings have a tendency to visualize body, breath and mind separately. When it comes to Zen meditation, all these aspects unite as one big reality.

The most important thing to focus on here is the position of the body. The body follows a specific pattern to communicate to the world and to communicate to itself internally. The manner in which you position your body has a lot to do with what happens to you breath and ultimately to the mind.

The most recommended pose in Zen meditation is the sitting position. The use of Zafu or a small pillow in order to raise the back a little is common. It helps the knees to touch the ground. With your bottom on the pillow and two knees touching the ground, you tend to create a tripod base that provides you three hundred and sixty-degree stability.

Here are some of the most common Zen meditations:

a) Burmese position

There are many varied leg positions, you can follow when seated in this position. The first and the simplest pose possible here is in which you need to cross your legs and both your feet rest flat on the floor. Rest the knees on the floor. Now, the muscles will get loose and your knees begin to drop.

Sit on the third of the Zafu pillow and shift your body forward a little. Imagine that top of your head is pushing towards the ceiling, stretch your body, keep your body straight and let your muscles go soft and relax. With your buttock on the Zafu push your stomach a little and keep your body upright.

b) Half lotus position

This is a position where the left foot should be placed on to the right thigh and the right leg should be touched under.

c) Seize position

Kneel with your buttocks resting on the upturned feet that form an anatomical cushion. You can even use a pillow in order to keep the weight away from the ankles.

Follow the Zen meditation techniques mentioned above and benefit from these.

I can assure you that if you are looking for a stress management activity the Dynamic Meditation is fantastic as a great cleanser to start with and once you have done it several times, you can then appreciate the 'meditation' aspect of this method.

So, going back to my meeting with the Dynamic Meditation...
After having made it clear in my mind that I needed an active method, just a few weeks later in Arundel, South of England, I met someone who handed me a small leaflet regarding a centre in London where Dynamic Meditation was happening.

The most astonishing thing was that I had not even mentioned this to him!

Anyhow, a few weeks later, I turned up at the centre at the earliest of times in the morning when it was scheduled. There was a roomful of people - well, how shall I say, letting go of their frustrations and emotions, expressing these in body movements and sounds (thankfully, not towards each other!). The intensity was quite amazing and the first time, amazed and impressed by what was going on around me, I just took it all in, not being able to follow the instructions.

In fact, one was advised to wear an eye mask in order to stay in touch with oneself and not be too surprised or influenced by the behaviour of other people.

But of course I did come back several times after that.

First, I learned to breathe just through the nose, expelling the air vigorously and letting the inhaling happen by itself, all done with no particular rhythm, but as 'chaotically' as possible! This lasted 10 minutes and the point was to reach part of our breathing mechanism that our day-to-day living does not allow us to reach, which stimulates our repressed emotions to come to the surface, to become conscious.

The second phase, also lasting 10 minutes, was about expressing those emotions, those repressions, to free us, the body and the psyche, from our conditioned behaviour, from fear, anger etc., which, hidden inside, can easily unconsciously control us from within.

Great stress management is this dynamic meditation! To be able to express whatever one has bottled up!

The third 10 minutes stage was to have our arms raised above our heads while jumping up and down, shouting the sound 'hoo', falling back on the soles of our feet, to help us reach the most profound centre of our energy, the sexual centre. The idea being to tap into that energy reservoir and enable it to rise and spread all over the body, creating a sense of enhanced vitality and well-being, even 'bliss' (especially in the next, 'silent' stage).

The fourth part was just standing still for 15 minutes in the position that the stopping of the music found us in.
This is the 'watching' part of this method, the most 'meditative' as we would call it, although in time one is advised to develop the 'watcher' in the previous phases as well.

A great stress management activity, I can assure you, this dynamic meditation! Not only to be able to express whatever one has bottled up, BUT also recycling it afterwards into finer energy!

Just one (obvious?!) thing:

You do need a fairly sound-proof space, or at least somewhere conveniently away from 'non-participants'!

Or, if you think neighbours might be amenable to 20 minutes of considerably more noise than normal (!), you could simply warn them what to expect beforehand.
It is a form of meditation that uses sound to open the heart and mind. This is a meditation technique of Devotion, a deeply spiritual and sacred practice for people who practice it; however a person doesn't need to be "religious" to experience the gifts that Mantra Meditation can offer.

Mantra meditation pushes the mind to focus and concentrate completely on sound, thus clearing away other thoughts, emotions and distractions which divert our energies. We learn to focus and preserve our mental and emotional energies, enabling us to develop a direction and focus in our actions.

We become more aware of the simple aspects of life leading to a transformation in our attitudes towards an uncomplicated and non-competitive life, creating a balance of being physically active and capable with the external actions and maintaining a condition of perpetual clarity and calmness internally.

Mantras (sounds) can be whatever you choose; they don't necessarily need to be Sanskrit Mantras (an ancient language of India used more often in yoga). A mantra is a sound repeated over and over again until it becomes one with you consciousness and frees your mind from its regular state of existence, elevating you to an altered state of awareness; a state that can connect you with your soul and its most deep levels, achieving a state of universal consciousness.

One popular mantra used is "I am" during inhalation, and "at peace" during exhalation. Mantra is often taught using Sanskrit words or phrases, most common of which are:

OM

The sound of the universe; vibration of all living things

So Ham

This is a beautiful and powerful mantra, honoring both the light and the shadow; the integration of opposites; life and death, light and shadow, inhalation and exhalation; the yin and yang.

Sat Nam

Truth

Om Namah Shivaya

Transformation; creation born of change; the phoenix rising.

Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya

Join with the divine will; I surrender to the Almighty.

Aham Brahmasmi

I am the creative force

Tat Tuan Asmi

I am that I am

Shanti, Shanti, Shanti

Peace, peace, peace

Common Mantras in English:

I am

I surrender to Your will (God, Goddess, Universe, What IS)

Love

Peace to all

I open to What IS

All is well

Preparation for Mantra Meditation

It is always important to prepare yourself before doing mantra meditation. Getting yourself in the right mind set and creating a spiritual atmosphere will help a lot in the practice of mantra meditation.

* Let a sense of spirituality and enthusiasm for your inner quests fill you.
* If possible, shower and dress in clean, white, loose fitting clothing.
* Pull back long hair and brush the teeth if possible. A comfortable and clean body promotes a clear mind as well.
* Sit in the sacred space you have set aside for your spiritual practice.
* Create a simple altar for you space. Inspirational pictures for you can be used, light a candle, or some incense to keep the air sweet and the atmosphere meditative.
* Surrender your egos. It is about purifying yourself and letting go of preconceived thinking, and opening yourself to boundless, unconditional love -Divine Grace.
* Sit in a comfortable position which allows your spine to be straight and erect.
* Offer a prayer from deep within your heart.

How to practice Mantra Meditation?

If you are using a Mantra that has one syllable, such as OM, begin by concentrating on the rhythm of your breath. Say to yourself OM as you inhale, then as you exhale count. Inhale OM, exhale one, inhale OM, exhale two, and so on till you reach the number ten, and then start over again.

For longer mantras such as the mantra So Hum, begin with deep, relaxed breathing, calming the mind and the body. Connect to the rhythm and absorb the rhythm of breath. On the inhalation, mentally chant So, and on the exhalation, mentally chant Hum. Flow with the silent sound and breath, allowing the sound to become one with your consciousness, visualizing life force energy moving into your body and down your spine when you inhale, and energy flowing up the spine when you exhale.

Enjoy the practice of this mantra technique without feeling pressurized to achieve anything. Enjoy the process and in time your breath and Mantra will become one.

Vipassana can be referred to as an ancient technique of meditation. The technique was rediscovered by Gautam the Buddha. This rediscovery was made about 2500 years ago.

This asana (posture) is taught by several instructors in India and many countries abroad. The instructions are mainly provided under the guidance of Sir S.N. Goenka. He is widely acclaimed as the principal teacher of Vipassana.

This form of meditation is known to promote conscious lifestyle changes and even works towards enhancing concentration of mind. The whole process also helps in providing deeper psychological introspection and ultimately results in certain behavioral changes that are long lasting.

Once your total being gets absorbed in meditation, all the stress and strain you experience in your daily life will slip away from your shoulders. Within a few minutes, you would feel physically as well as mentally refreshed and rested.

- Main objectives of Vipassana is the Purification of mind

This is one of the best benefits that can be enjoyed by the person who performs this form of meditation. This technique works towards bringing out full transformation of the human personality.

No wonder, this meditation technique is usually described as a technique of purifying the mind of the instincts it has developed long back. This further facilitates the individual in exhibiting the true qualities of a human being such as tolerance, equanimity, kindness, sympathy, forgiveness and a lot more.

The technique reveals the true nature and the ultimate purpose of existence of human soul. The whole benefit is obtained in a scientific manner. This is done via a systematic cultivation of Right mindfulness in conjunction with non-reactivity.

Here are some of the characteristics of Vipassana meditation:

a) The Vipassana meditation technique is universal. You can practice it irrespective of whatever caste, creed or country you belong to.

b) It works towards getting to the base of an individual’s defilements in the unconscious mind and also minimizes the distance between the unconscious and conscious layers of the mind.

c) One does not require to use the imagination in this technique of meditation. The person who practices this form of meditation requires to walk on the path himself. No one is going to make the effort but the individual who practices it. One does not require any ritual of ‘teacher guidance’ in this form of technique.

d) As one works towards becoming a better individual, the more he or she is going to obtain the benefits.

Here are certain steps of Vipassana meditation you need to perform in order to ensure best of benefits and performance:

a) To start with, one requires to take a vow of observing certain rules related to moral conduct also known as sila.

b) One requires to abstain from stealing, lying, taking an intoxicant, killing any sentient being or sexual misconduct.

c) One requires to be aware of the respiration process. It involves regular observation of the natural flow of inhaling and exhaling the breath.

d) The action of observing the breath promoted awareness of the current moment and tranquility of mind.

There are several benefits of performing this form of meditation including corrective influence of psychic disturbances.

Control of the mind is a very interesting inner game. If you have a sportsman attitude you will thoroughly enjoy it, even apparently if it seems that you are losing. It takes a great deal of skill, alertness, sense of humor, goodness of heart, sense of strategy and patience to control the mind and enables an individual not to get disheartened in the face of even hundreds of failures.

The three basic facts about mind control are:

a.That it has always been an extremely difficult task even for heroic persons of the stature of Arjuna.
b.That yet it is possible to control mind.
c.That there are well defined methods for controlling mind.

In order to control the mind, firstly, it is very important to strengthen our will. It cannot be said that we have no will to control the mind. The very fact that all of us have our own inner struggles indicates that we do have our own personal will. But in 99% of the cases this will is not strong enough to control the mind. Our will to control the mind will never be strong enough until and unless we have deliberately and irrevocably renounced pleasure as one of the main pursuits of life. By rejecting of the endless chase for pleasure is not meant abandonment of the pursuits of joy or bliss. By pleasure is meant enjoying of sense-pleasures. The scourge which eats up the vivacity of our will power to control our mind is what we call the pursuit of pleasure.

For instance, say you have a servant who is aware of the fact that you depend on him for the production of illicit drugs and other intoxicants. After the production of the drugs you sit and enjoy the same together with the servant. Then it will not be possible for you to control your servant, though you are his master. The same is the case with the mind.

The mind which we use for seeking and enjoying pleasure can never be under our control until we give up seeking pleasure. Even after giving up the pursuit of pleasure it will not be easy to control it for the mind will always have past incidents to cite to embarrass us. The strength of our will to control our mind will be in proportion to the strength and intensity of our renunciation of the pursuit of pleasure. Unless the pleasure motive is overcome, no matter what we do or how hard we try, it will never be possible for us to control the mind. Thus, the derivative of this truth is that those of us who are reluctant to renounce the pleasure-motive are not sincere enough in wanting to control their mind, whatever their professions may be.

Now, in order to strengthen our will power and will force, firstly we have to remove the causes of weaknesses of will and we have to inject strength into us by ensuring the presence of suitable causes. Another reason for the weakness of our will is that most of us perhaps not clearly thought what exactly is at stake in the control of the mind. If we had, the sheer instinct for survival would have driven us to strengthen our will to control our mind. As regards our failures to control the mind, we need not be unduly exercised. It has never been an easy task even for the noblest of men, to control the mind by strengthening the will power.

Thus, the most important thing is to strengthen the will to such degree that even in the face of repeated failures we will not get easily disheartened. Rather with every new failure to control the mind we are roused to new and fresh endeavors with absolutely new and fresh enthusiasm. It is indeed a heroic task. Hence occasional or repeated drawbacks or failures to control the mind should not be taken seriously. Moreover, failures should be taken as spurs to more determined, sustained and intelligent efforts.

Meditation is a group of mental training techniques. You can use meditation to improve mental health and capacities, to improve your motivation for your goals and also to help improve the physical health. Some of these techniques are very simple, so you can learn them from a book or an article; others require guidance by a qualified meditation teacher.

WHAT IS MEDITATION

Most techniques called meditation include these components:

1. You sit or lie in a relaxed position.
2. You breathe regularly. You breathe in deep enough to get enough oxygen. When you breathe out, you relax your muscles so that your lungs are well emptied, but without straining.
3. You stop thinking about everyday problems and matters.
4. You concentrate your thoughts upon some sound, some word you repeat, some image, some abstract concept or some feeling. Your whole attention should be pointed at the object you have chosen to concentrate upon.
5. If some foreign thoughts creep in, you just stop this foreign thought, and go back to the object of meditation.

The different meditation techniques differ according to the degree of concentration, and how foreign thoughts are handled. By some techniques, the objective is to concentrate so intensely that no foreign thoughts occur at all.

In other techniques, the concentration is more relaxed so that foreign thoughts easily pop up. When these foreign thoughts are discovered, one stops these and goes back to the pure meditation in a relaxed manner. Thoughts coming up, will often be about things you have forgotten or suppressed, and allow you to rediscover hidden memory material. This rediscovery will have a psychotherapeutic effect.

THE EFFECTS OF MEDITATION

Meditation has the following effects:

1. Meditation will give you rest and recreation.
2. You learn to relax.
3. You learn to concentrate better on problem solving.
4. Meditation often has a good effect upon the blood pressure.
5. Meditation has beneficial effects upon inner body processes, like circulation, respiration and digestion.
6. Regular meditation will have a psychotherapeutically effect.
7. Regular meditation will facilitate the immune system.
8. Meditation is usually pleasant.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HYPNOSIS AND MEDITATION

Hypnosis may have some of the same relaxing and psychotherapeutic effects as meditation. However, when you meditate you are in control yourself; by hypnosis you let some other person or some mechanical device control you. Also hypnosis will not have a training effect upon the ability to concentrate.

A SIMPLE FORM OF MEDITATION

Here is a simple form of meditation. By this meditation technique, you should concentrate in an easy manner. This will allow foreign thoughts to pop up. These are handled one by one as they appear. You proceed as follows:

1. Sit in a good chair in a comfortable position.
2. Relax all your muscles as well as you can.
3. Stop thinking about anything, or at least try not to think about anything.
4. Breath out, relaxing all the muscles in your breathing apparatus.
5. Repeat the following in 10 - 20 minutes:

-- Breath in so deep that you feel you get enough oxygen.
-- Breath out, relaxing your chest and diaphragm completely.
-- Every time you breathe out, think the word "one" or another simple word inside yourself. You should think the word in a prolonged manner, and so that you hear it inside you, but you should try to avoid using your mouth or voice.

6. If foreign thoughts come in, just stop these thoughts in a relaxed manner, and keep on concentrating upon the breathing and the word you repeat.

As you proceed through this meditation, you should feel steadily more relaxed in your mind and body, feel that you breathe steadily more effectively, and that the blood circulation throughout your body gets more efficient. You may also feel an increasing mental pleasure throughout the meditation.

THE EFFECTS OF MEDITATION UPON DISEASES

As any kind of training, meditation may be exaggerated so that you get tired and worn out. Therefore you should not meditate so long or so concentrated that you feel tired or mentally emptied.

Meditation may sometimes give problems for people suffering from mental diseases, epilepsy, serious heart problems or neurological diseases. On the other hand, meditation may be of help in the treatment of these and other conditions.

People suffering from such conditions should check out what effects the different kinds of meditation have on their own kind of health problems, before beginning to practise meditation, and be cautious if they choose to begin to meditate. It may be wise to learn meditation from an experienced teacher, psychologist or health worker that use meditation as a treatment module for the actual disease.
