I need glasses

I made it almost 30 years without needing glasses. But I've been getting headaches and my most recent eye exam showed an astigmatism and a very low prescription needed. Mostly I will need them for reading, computer use and night driving. I guess, that's what the guy said. I just want my head to stop hurting, and I'd like to be able to drive at night again. Well, I can drive at night, I just have a hard time seeing, and I get really nervous when cars pass me going the opposite direction because I cannot see very well.

So anyway I went looking at glasses today.

BTW, taking pictures of yourself in the glasses department of any store is just a little weird. But I only had one person ask if I needed anything and I explained that my husband is out of town (truth) and I don't trust myself to buy glasses without someone else's opinion (also truth).

I am giving wordpress a spin.
I like blogger, but in the past it has been more pain then it's worth.
I will continue to post both here and there (cut and paste)
Until I choose my favorite.
I don't know when that will be, but I will notify everyone here and there.
I know I am incredibly indecisive.
But After a day with wordpress there are a few things that I really like about it.

This whole cooking thing is a matter of opinion. There is no right and wrong. Just food... and inedible.

This has inspired me. I'd like to vlog, or at least try it. I don't know what to say though. And I'll probally have to take a page from MDK's book and do it drunk or drunk-ish the first time. Because I am terribly nervous and am scared of all of you.

But again I don't know what to talk about.

Spicy Tzatziki sauce

I may have shared this recipe already, But it's dope.
Sorry I don't measure anything.

Alana's Amazing Spicy Tzatziki
1 large tub of greek yogurt
cheesecloth
about 1/2 tbsp cayenne
2 cucumbers (with seeds removed)
fresh dill
2 tbsp chopped garlic
salt and pepper to taste

I strained the yogurt by putting the cheese cloth in a strainer, dumping in the yogurt and wrapping it up.

After wrapping it tightly I placed a bowl on top to keep light pressure, too much pressure and the yogurt will ooze through the cheese cloth. Let it sit a good 2-3 hours.

While you are letting the liquid drain from your yogurt quarter and gut your cucumbers. Sprinkle with salt and let sit for about an hour to sweat out the liquid.

Unwrap your yogurt and you can return it back to the original container if you like.

I pureed my cucumbers, but I didn't mean to, I wanted to just chop them up a bit.

(I need a manicure)

Chop up a few sprigs of dill, to about 2 tbsp. and combine all extra ingredients together. Salt and pepper to taste.

Refrigerate for a few hours at least, but best overnight.

You can eat this with anything, veggies, pita bread, tortilla chips, a spoon.

(sorry I am no food photographer, it may not be pretty but it's still amazing.)

I'm Sick Again, But we had SNOW!

I am sick for what I think is the fourth time this winter.

But... Last wednesday we had a shit load of snow. And I took some pictures.

So it started out with 2-3 inches on the deck by morning when I got up. So i shoveled it off so the doggies could potty. It picked up about 4pm and snowed like crazy This picture was taken at about 8 pm.

after this was taken I cleared the deck again.
Then we went to dinner. And the snow really got crazy.

By the next morning the snow was up to the neck of the bottle again.

We got a total of about 16 inches in this storm. It was bananas. The most snow I have seen EVER.

The roads were treacherous for about a day. People drive like idiots in the snow.

All was well with us and fine then Friday we were to drive up to Great Falls, MT for OTB Fridays. A work thing where we meet up with the Great Falls Marine recruiters for On The Border.

We decided to take my Jeep Patriot because I have 4WD, heated seats, and it's just better than Pauls jeep.

I show up at the shop to pick up Paul and the other Helena recruiter. We got a late start because they had an appt run late.
So abotu 5 we are finally about to get on the road. We pull out of the parking lot and Paul (showing off) decides to run my jeep through a pile of snow....
And gets it stuck....
It was packed ice.
And my Jeep is high-centered on it.
Thankfully we are real close to the shop and the other Marine gets his truck and they pull mine out.
I was pissed. It took about 30 min to get it out.
We eventually made it out, and then to Great Falls, We had our OTB and it was great.

Now I am going to go back to my blanket and TheraFlu

Well it's that time again. Time to make some major changes in my hair.

This is where I am now:

It's time to go short again. Like super short.
It's been over bleached and is breaking really bad on the crown of my head and is getting to the point where it's noticeable.
So after Valentines day I'm gonna cut it all off again.
I am also going to stop bleaching it for a while.

So I am wondering, when a book comes into your life that has been made into a movie do you read first then watch the movie? Or movie first and then read the book?

I always read the book first, and then, even when the movie is good, I still critique it.

I guess that's to be expected.

But I always end up just a little disappointed in the movie. I watch it and wish there was more. Wish they could have developed the characters better, or shared more of the story.

I feel for the people who don't read the book, I wish for them to read the book so they can be a part of the whole story.

When I read a book I form a bond with the characters, They become a part of my life. I feel like I am there with them.
When you see someone else's vision of the story that was a part of your for however short or long the time you were reading it, the way they see the story is sure to be different from your vision.

Or maybe I just take things too seriously, or read too passionately.

I love reading. I love diving into something and letting it completely consume me.

So do I finish the book then watch the movie, or watch the movie then finish the book?

Last night I had a dream that someone super famous tweeted the link to my blog. Within minutes my blog was viral.
It was weird.
I bet it's partly because I overslept by almost an hour today. My body was trying to tell me to quit dreaming and get the hell up.
Well it worked I got up and checked my blog. It's not gone viral while I slept.
Now I have 35 min to get ready and leave for work.
I can do it but I try to take some time and enjoy my mornings not run around and be cranky.

Yep I call them tennies. I have since I was a kid. I don't know why, I guess thats what mom called them.

Anyway.

I have started and quit Jillian Michaels 30 day shred like 300 times. I love it and I see results when I can stick to it, but I know it by heart now. And I hate to admit but it's a little annoying.

I work in a video store and I saw this a few weeks ago.

Curiosity got the best on me and I spent the 9 bucks and got it.

Damn this bitch is intense.

One thing was wrong.

It's really hard to do barefoot.

I do the 30 day shred barefoot, in fact I do most of my working out (except the treadmill and outside activities) barefoot. I am not a fan of shoes. and my newest pair of tennies are at least 4 years old.

So over the weekend I decided it was time for some new shoes. I ended up buying one pair that I didn't like the look as much as they were hella comfy, but it turns out I fail at buying shoes because they were WAY too big. So I took them back yesterday and the correct size didn't feel as good. I ended up with the shoes that I loved the way they look, and in the correct size they feel pretty damn good too.

I did my JM Ripped in 30 for the second consecutive day and damn do I feel good today.

I love when I can feel it the day after a workout.

oh and then I made cookies.

But I am taking them to work, I just wanted one.

(no, I am not saying goodbye)

Goodbye is just a part of Military Life.

We all leave, we are all left. Friends move away when they get new orders. About every three years it's time to move for a Marine Family. Sometimes it's just to a different unit at the same base, sometimes it's across the globe.

A list of our moves:
I was born and raised in Tucson, Az.
Early 2005 We moved to Chicopee, Mass. Stationed at Westover Air Reserve Base.
(in 2006 we moved from an apartment to base housing)
Early 2008 We moved to Okinawa Japan. Stationed at Camp Courtney.
(in 2009 we moved from base housing into an off base house)
Late 2010 We moved to Helena, Montana. Stationed on recruiting duty.

Moving every three years is a huge pain in the ass. There are boxes stored in my house that haven't been unpacked since we lived in chicopee. But the worst part is making friends and saying goodbye.
It's not often you meet people on the same rotation as you, so usually you or your friends are leaving while someone is staying behind. We were lucky in Okinawa, many of our good friends were on the same rotation as we were so we all were together. My two best friends and I all left the island in a matter or months from each other. With Paul and I being the last to leave.
I am still in contact with most of my friends from our travels. But it's hard to keep in touch when they are so far away, and our current lives are so full of work, and play, and trying to make new friends.

We have made new friends that are leaving soon. That's the luck since we got to Helena, we make friends and then they leave. I have just a few people here in Montana that I would call a friend.

I deeply love each and every one of my military friends that I have made over the last 6 years. I treasure so many of the friendships I have been blessed with. I hope that we all get to see each other again someday.

Goodbye 2011

2011 was a good year, considering all the stress we have been under.

Janurary brought us lots of snow

And we tried to finish unpacking

February I started my job

And more really coldness

March was warmer weathers

but still lots of snuggles.

April we had one more good snow

and we finally disposed of the christmas tree sitting at the side of the house.

May we tried some new beers

And it warmed enough to play outside with the dogs

We also had the return of the sunny spot!

June we did some fun hiking

And I started to go blond again

Sadly there was also quite a bit of flooding in our area

We also had camping in Challis, which was a blast!

July was more fun with food

and much warmer temps

August I went home to Tucson, Az for a much needed visit.

And then got in my car accident

September was more hiking

and slightly cooler weather

October gave us some weird weather (that i still haven't found an explanation for)

And changing of the leaves

We also had our first really cold night.

November was the first snow

And the Marine Corps Ball

And possibly most important:

My sisters wedding!

December was a belated thanksgiving dinner/early christmas dinner

Last week I went to go see a chiropractor. It was recommended to me by my hairdresser, because I have been suffering back pain.
I sat in the dimly lit room, with nothing but a black bed thing and a small black desk and spoke to Julie my chiropractor girl (I think she may be younger than me, if not about my age) and we talked about how chiropractors work, and how there are different kinds of chiropractors. Some that contort and crack you, and some that just poke and prod you. She is a poker and prodder.
We talked about different things that could be treated, stomach problems, back pain, headaches, and other pains, just to name a few.

She stood me in front of a mirror and showed me my posture. my right shoulder hung lower than my left. My right hip however was higher than my left. I was all messed up.
I laid down and she moved me around, poked at my back, pulled at my neck, used this thing that made a loud pop noise that helps move your spines back where they should be.
After I left I felt really good. Just all over good. I can't explain it but I felt different. I felt better.
That was last tuesday.

For the last 8 days I have been almost 100% anxiety free.
I can't explain it.
Maybe it's in my head.
Maybe I just want to feel better so bad I have convinced myself that I am better.
Maybe it won't last.
Maybe after 10 years of mild to severe anxiety, which I have tried to treat through, yoga, meditation, medication, exercise, and more medication, I have finally found a resolution.

One of my big anxieties is fire. I usually unplug all the small appliances and anything that isn't huge before I leave the house, depending on the level of anxiety that day this can include things as mundane as lamps and chargers.
Yesterday for the first time ever I left the crock pot plugged in and on while I went to work for my 3 hour shift. Not once did i worry that the house had burned down.
My mom and I once joked about how I could crock during the day and not be worried about the house burning down, I said I would plug it into an extension cord and push it to the middle of the empty garage so if it erupted in flames it wouldn't be near enough to anything to start a house fire. (I never followed through on that plan.)
I also haven't had any work related anxiety. Usually when heading into work I am afraid I am going to be in trouble, though I know I have done nothing wrong, I am afraid that I have in some way missed something and that I will have someone mad at me.

I went back for a follow up yesterday. And she was surprised at how well my adjustments held up, she was also impressed at my mental health improvements. I was more impressed at my mental health improvements then anything.
For the first time in a long time I feel good, consistently good.
I hope it lasts.
