My handsome man was born September 16th at 4:03 a.m, weighing 6 pounds and 10 ounces. I will have to write my birth story within the week but I am so in love with this child, I can't even describe it.

My favorite place to visit? Some may say a lavish island or maybe even a trip to their favorite country. My favorite place to visit is with my sister in Florida! *gaps* Yes, my sister's home. For as long as I can remember, me and her never had the best relationship. We would fight and yell at one another; we even stopped talking to each other. I still have a vivid memory of her putting my first relaxer into my hair and while she was waiting for it to finish processing, she decided to dance on the bed to a music video that was on MTV at the time. Well, I started dancing and jumping as well forgetting all about this burning product in my hair (I was around 7 at the time). I started yelling that it was burning and she washed it out; everything seemed fine (or so we thought). She started blow drying my hair and went to put my hair into ponytails for school the next week. *crying begins* She went to grip my hair and the WHOLE ENTIRE PONYTAIL came off in her hand. When we are sitting around the table, we still laugh about that incident till this day.

She moved around to different states and other countries because of her husband being in the military so I only saw her every blue moon. We would STILL fuss and argue (we are 12 years apart). It wasn't until I gave birth to my first son that we began to actually talk without arguing. My niece and nephews are my heart so spending time with them as well makes me happy. I'm closer in age to my sisters children than I am with her but ever moment I spend at her home, I am overjoyed. We still bicker time to time but nothing like we used to when I was younger. Now we are adults, with children and spouses, and anytime we spend with one another is precious. I wouldn't trade any of our past arguments for anything in the world. Being in Florida with my sister, is my favorite place to visit.

My sister is the shortest one in the picture. I wasn't feeling well so that's why my face looks like that.

I was given the opportunity to try out, Covergirls "Blast Flipstick". While I loved the colors and the way the product felt on my lips. Out of the 3 I tried, only 1 looked good with my darker skin complexion. The colors that I received were Stunner (Bright Pink with a shade of gold), Vixen (Burgandy with a pearl pink shade) and my favorite Minx ( Deep Brown with a shade of gold). The "Blast Flipstick" line comes in 13 different shade duos, with creams and shimmers for a kaleidoscope of colors. The colors include:

Whisper: Taupe and pearl pink shades

Pucker: Light berry and lilac shades

Glimmer: Dark berry and soft pink shades

Flashy: Dark berry and lilac shades

Vixen: Burgundy and pearl pink shades

Perky: Bright pink and light pink shades

Tease: Red and gold shades

Cheeky: Bright pink and peach shades

Stunner: Bright pink and gold shades

Snap: Taupe and sand shades

Smooch: Copper and sand shades

Minx: Deep brown and gold shades

Just HAD to say something about this picture. We took it last year and notice how everyone is in the pool except this little boy. That’s my son. He REFUSES to get in any water besides the bath tub. So he will splash people from the side of the pool or just stand there and smile for pictures LOL

It’s really not! For the past few months, I have been hearing and seeing people freaking out on if the world is going to end. Will the sun blow up? Will everything stop working? Will an earthquake wipe us out? Who knows. I prefer not to even think about it and no one actually knows when it will end. In my honest opinion, I don’t think it will “end” per-say. I think the human race will change and we are changing everyday; From all the shootings, new laws, environmental changes, economy, etc. The only thing I am worried about are the people who may act out because they assume that the world will end on Friday. Our family has decided to send the children to school but we won’t be going anywhere unless it’s vital.

One thing I said that I would never do is live my life in fear, which I am doing a pretty good job at. But, when things start happening back to back and they aren’t good. Sometimes you have to sit back and think about the what ifs. I am in control of my destiny and I refuse to be a victim by a lunatic who wants to cause harm “just because”. My mother is continuing to go about her life but I still tell her to be aware of everything and carry something to protect herself. I protect myself at all times, in my house as well as outside the home. Never have I felt the need to do this until 2012 and I will continue to do so from here on out.

Do you all do anything to protect yourself when out alone? Do you teach your children what to look out for? If you don’t, please just be careful on Friday and monitor people around you. There are some who think these are the last days and will want to harm others.

Mental Illness!!

Many of us either have friends, family and/or children with mental illnesses, some illnesses people just don’t understand. There can be a person who is very outgoing, popular and beautiful but deep down inside; no one knows that they may have a personality disorder or may even be bipolar. I , myself have suffered from depression and no one would know unless I told them. I chose not to medicate myself and tried other alternatives such as reading books, going to the movies, shopping as well as what I am doing now…Blogging! Mental Illness also runs in my family from bipolar disorder to Schizophrenia. Some chose to medicate and some did not but what they did do is get help from whatever resources they could find.

I would not wish a mental illness on my worst enemy. I have been on the receiving end of some of the actions of someone who suffers from a mental illness and it sucked big time. I knew deep down inside that they could not help what they were doing but people covering up for it hurt me even more. For parents with children who suffer from mental illnesses, do your best to educate those around you. People fear what they don’t understand or they have pre conceived notions about what a certain illness cause the person to act like or do. If you suspect your child having an problem, please please please go see someone. Do not act like it does not exist because the person who will end up suffering is the child. Do not treat your child as their illness is a hindrance. Remind your child that you love them and they can do and be whatever they want to be.

Our country has a huge problem with not providing enough resources for those with these issues. Some places instead of giving proper counseling and finding alternatives to medication. They stop the counseling and just give medication without any other options. Some parents also may need counseling especially if they do not know how to handle their child or many find that they do not have a support system. Everyone needs someone to talk to and holding it in, only makes everything more stressful. There are some mental issues that I myself are not familiar with and I am still learning about them, day by day.

Things you wish someone told you before giving birth

I was alone during my pregnancy and mainly used a community called, “Just Mommies'” to see what I should expect during my pregnancy and afterwards. If it wasn’t for those ladies, I would have been so lost. I am soooo glad that they told me how I should push. I just thought you pushed from your vagina…WRONG. Your supposed to push like you are having a bowel movement and without that advice, I probably would have been in labor long than I was lol. I also, always thought that your water breaking would happen like in the movies; a huge gush of water that would flood the floor. I hated when my water broke, because it didn’t “break” per say; It sprung a leak. So, while I’m in the ambulance; I am leaking the entire time and I felt nasty UGH I don’t even want to think about it. I also had no clue that after you have the baby that you also must push again for the placenta to come out. I wanted to take a look but I totally forgot all about it when I saw my son.

I don’t know if every mother went to this but I did and I hated it. The Nesting Period. A week prior to giving birth, I started cleaning and moving furniture like a mad woman. I even moved a couch by myself and since we were in the process of moving; I picked up boxes like everyone else. Powered Laundry Detergent smelled like heaven as well as Windex. Everyone will tell you to sit down, relax, yell that you shouldn’t do any heavy lifting and you will look at them like they are crazy. I also walked 2 times a day up until giving birth to get a Slurpee from 7-11. I could tell when it was time for a Slurpee because my son would start punching me lol.

I honestly miss being pregnant. It was as AWESOME and problem free experience. Someday I will be pregnant again and actually find out what it’s like to make a man get up at 2am to get my some candy or whatever my body craves. Did you all have anything that you wish someone would have told you before giving birth? Any pregnancy stories? If so, I would LOVE to hear them.

Protect you and your child from sickness this season

Classroom teachers do their best to prevent bacteria and germs from causing the whole class to get sick. But, with 10-20 children in a room for hours a day, different home environments and immune systems. It is bound to happen. If you are a working or a stay at home mom/dad, it is not fun caring for a sick child or having to miss work. Even as a parent, you may catch something and pass it on to your children. Here are some quick tips on how to prevent or lower the chances of your child getting sick in or outside of the classroom:

WASH your hands!!! This is the biggest thing that I have noticed, many children do not do, even adults. Washing your hands is the BEST way to preventing sickness. Your hands touch filthy object all day long; from remote controls, pencils/pens, door knobs, etc. Many of these objects do not get cleaned or not cleaned enough and harbor millions of bacteria.
COVER your mouth!!! Covering your cough is important because it cuts down on the spread of germs. Illnesses such as the common cold and flu are spread when you sneeze and cough or when you touch your face and then touch other objects. Covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze with your elbow or a tissue will greatly reduce the number of germs that are able to get into the environment.
STAY HOME!! If you or your child has flu like symptoms and running a fever of 100 degrees or more. Please stay at home until 24 hours have past and your temperature has dropped to normal.
Disinfect items in your home- Yes, how you keep your house. Also, has effects on you/r childs' health. You don't have to go crazy and freak out anytime something gets dirty but cleaning can prevent germs, which limits your risk of getting sick.
Sharing Cups- I am guilty of doing this but the human mouth is dirty and cutting down on this can stop the spread of germs.
Throw those tissues in the trash. As soon as your child wipes his/her snotty nose. Dispose of the tissue. Some parents put the tissue back in their coat pocket, purse, on the table, etc. The tissue is contaminated after it has been used and placing it on a surface is now contaminating it.
Vitamins. Vitamins not only help your child with growing help but they also help with preventing your child from getting sick. Vitamin C is my personal favorite. Not only can your child take a Vitamin that contains Vitamin C but there are many food that contain it as well. Potatoes, Oranges, Green Peppers and even Tomatoes. Vitamin C increases the body's production of white blood cells, which fight infection.

These are just some of my personal tips on preventing sickness or at least limiting your chances of getting sick. If you have any tips of you own, let me know!!!

Toys for Tots Program

This program is simply AMAZING and we are very grateful for being accepted into the program this year. If you living in the United States, you have more than likely seen the "Toys for Tots" bins outside of your local Walmart's, in your children's school, Toys R Us and more places. Toys for Tots began in 1947,when Major Bill Hendricks (USCR) and a group of Marine Reservists in L.A collected and distributed over 5,000 toys to needy children. His wife, Diane gave him the idea to do so. Diane crafted handmade dolls and asked Bill to take the dolls to an organization; so that a child could have something for Christmas, sadly, no such organization existed and that he should start his own. The first project was so successful, that the Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots in 1948 and it expanded into a national campaign. From then on, year after year and currently. The Toys and Tots program was conducted in every community where a Marine Corps Center was located.

I have many friends who are in the Marines, that collect for this program every year. I, myself have donated toys every year because I want every child to be able to not only have a toy but to know that their community is thinking about them. Well being that I was not writing this blog for the entire year. I will say that I am glad that I started my blog when I did. In regular life and on the Internet, it seems as if everyone is motivated at the end of the year. You start to reminisce on all the things that happened earlier in the year, what you should or should not have done, etc. By the end of December, I hope to have 20 blog post, a new template, a blog button to share, more followers and an advice section to answer questions from readers. I want to send a THANK YOU to everyone who is reading my blog. Without you all, there would be no one to write for but the matrix which makes up the Internet. Knowing that people read what I post, gives me courage and it also puts a little pep in my step :). So cheers to my readers for giving me what I need, an audience.

5 activities your children can do after school

If your like me and are trying to find ways of limiting your children's television time, or finding ways they can social more together. I decided to create a list of some fun things that your kids could do to get out of your hair for a few minutes or hours.

Read a book, of course. Children are not reading as much as they need to be. Find them a exciting book to read. If you own any of those children audio books, that would be fantastic.
Do you have a bunk bed at home? If you do. Grab some sheets and hang them front the top bunk and let their imagination run wild. They can go on a "camping trip", fight an imaginary dragon, read spooky stories or even play a friendly game of "Peek-a-boo".
Turn cleaning up into a game. If you have a empty bathroom trash can or empty laundry basket. They can go around the house and pick up any trash they see on the floor. When they pick up the trash, they try to shoot it into the "goal". When they finish, place a few coins in their piggy banks.
Pull out a board game like Chutes and Ladders, Scrabble, Tic Tac Toe, etc and let them play together.
Dance to music with their stuffed animals. Crank up the music and let them dance, dance, dance until they get tired. Makes for a better bedtime.
Into Arts and Crafts? Grab some old magazines, an old shirt, some pennies, etc and let them create art that they can hang up in their rooms. Kids LOVE this stuff.
Create a card. Since the holidays are coming around, who doesn't love to receive cards. Better yet, who doesn't love to receive cards from KIDS. Get those art supplies out and get to decorating!!!
Indoor picnic. For dinner or snack time after lunch. Grab an old blanket and let the kids help you place the napkins, etc on the blanket. Sit down and talk about all the fun things they did in school today. This would be a perfect time to discuss any "issues" they are having as well. This personal time will create a stronger relationship with the kiddos as well.

These are some tips on how to reduce time in front of the television, get some mommy or daddy time and let your kids enjoy each other or vice verse. I hope you enjoyed this tips. If you have any other ones to add. I would LOVE to read them and try them out with my children .
