On Christmas Eve he is visited by the spirit of his dead partner, Jacob Marley. He is also visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. Throughout the evening he is shown how he has changed through time, and what will happen if he doesn't change his ways.

The overall message of this story is that it's not too late to change. Scrooge is reminded of his past by seeing how much people enjoyed his presence, including his sister, Fran, who loved him and was always glad to see him. When he sees the present he sees how miserly he's become and how miserably he treats people. Especially his clerk, Bob Cratchit. He never took the time to get to know Mr. Cratchit or his family, and didn't know that Mr. Cratchit's son was very ill. The future shows him that nobody even cared that he died, in fact, his nephew was relieved because he would have more time to pay his mortgage. After seeing all of these events, Scrooge promises to make amends in his relationships with family and friends.

Rules

I just finished the book, Rules by Cynthia Lord. The book was about a twelve year old girl named Catherine who's brother, David, has autism. David loves rules, so Catherine creates rules for him so he doesn't embarrass her. One of the things Catherine does with David every week is go to OT (occupational therapy). She likes to go there because while David is in his appointment, her mom reads a book out loud and Catherine draws pictures. Jason, a boy around Catherine's age, also goes to OT. He cannot talk so he has to point to words in his book to communicate. Catherine ends up drawing pictures that go with new words for Jason to use so he can "talk" with her more. They end up being friends, even with a few bumps along the road.

I recommend this book to you if you like a little comedy mixed in with something that's serious.
Newsgirl

I am reading Newsgirl by Liza Ketchum. The main character, Amelia, and her family moved to San Francisco in 1851. Her family used most of their money on the voyage so found themselves very poor. Amelia, wanting to help, decided she needed to disguise herself as a boy in order to sell newspapers. Unfortunately things get quite chaotic when she, and her friend Patrick, end up in an unexpected hot air balloon fiasco. Once she recovers from this, she ends up in more trouble when she is kidnapped and forced onto a ship. Luckily this happens to be the ship her good friend Estelle is on, and she is rescued.
