Distant View of a Minaret: Alifa Rifaat's View of Sexism in The Arab World

I found Alifa Rifaat's view of "Sexism in the Arab World" quite interesting. She does not take a radical feminist approach to dealing with sexism through her writings. This is not to say that radical feminist or political reforms towards equality is not desirable. It just means that Alifa Rifaat's view is more balanced and contextual, given her preferences and beliefs shaped by an Islamic belief system.

I am not sure if there is a moral stand towards her view of monogamy, which doesn't seem likely but her views seem to reflect her innate needs and the choices she wants to make in her life. Speaking in sociological terms, she was denied "agenda", as she had even been disallowed to publish her work by her husband for a good number of years, before he gave her his nod again.

She is even denied an education in Fine Arts, which her translator Denys John-Davies or Denys Johnson-Davies says that her parents interpreted as her readiness for marriage. In his Translator's Foreword in the "Distant View of a Minaret and Other Stories" (affiliate), Denys makes a mention of Alifa's belief in "Quranic precept that "men are in charge of women". This puts a burden on men to behave towards women with kindness and generosity.

"If a man's behaviour falls short of what is expected of him, the woman's natural acceptance of her role is likely to change to contempt and rebellion," he writes and adds, "Alifa Rifaat's revolt, therefore, is merely against certain man-made interpretations and accretions that have grown up over the years and remain unquestioned by the majority of both men and women."

In the "Distant View of a Minaret", the short story begins quite poetically with the lead character going through an intercourse and having various thoughts during simultaneously. Alifa quite poignantly brings out the dissatisfaction in the way she gets treated in her marital life and in sex. Her mind is led to her timely daily prayers and even her toenails. She relates more to her prayers (which she finds more satisfying) than to her husband, marital relationship or sex. Finally, when she finds her husband dead out of a sudden heart attack, she pours herself a cup of coffee pondering over how calm she felt at that moment.

This is one of the many short stories written by Alifa Rifaat in Arabic language. Wikipedia also compares Alifa Rifaat with another popular feminist writer Nawal El Sadaawi, whose feminist views are different from that of Alifa's, while Alifa's views do not come out of mere conformity either. I believe Alifa's views are strict choices out of love for what she naturally likes.

The reason I wrote this article is to point out how external views of the rest of the world could differ from the one who actually lives those moments, time, circumstances, ethnicity, cultures and environment. Al Jazeera also points out that "Sexism in The Arab World is not due to popular beliefs that the people more or less do not participate or hold sexist beliefs among themselves but they are sexist only by institutions.

My personal belief is also that social issues must be read from strong and sound individual perceptions with sheer empathy, instead of taking a collective statistical external understanding. There is always a huge contrast between what is seen in the external world and what is actually in the internal world i.e. one's own heart. Oftentimes, we do only the former and ignore the latter. So, I believe we should begin looking more into the internal workings of social issues than what is popularly seen from an external point of view.

Gravity: The Rebirth and Reproduction Metaphor

Surprising how Alfonso Cuaron had been so expressive and vocal of cinematic liberties and on how a film ought to be made, sometimes, compromising on the factual side of things! Yet, he seems to have gotten most things right.

I have put myself into watching movies recently - Interstellar and Gravity - movies I had missed upon release. These two films mean a lot more than meets the eyes of the casual observer. They are remarkable, path-breaking and revolutionary. Just the sheer importance of this film makes me write about it two and a half years after release.

This post is only about Gravity and the many discussions and debates the movie has raised since release. I wouldn't want to mention spoiler alert two years after release. However, you do good watching the movie before reading this piece, if, under very rare circumstances, you haven't!

The Plot (and Interpretations): Gravity could be the simplest and the most universal of plots you can come across. Things go wrong in space and you have to get back to earth to survive. Debris after a missile strike into a Russian satellite launch into orbit and they are going to hit everyone and everything on the way, every 90 minutes.

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and Astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) have to get back to earth, while everyone else on board on the space shuttle Explorer is dead.

It was at this point that I began to interpret the movie in different ways, vis-a-vis the many interpretations of the movie, while watching the second time. Does Dr. Ryan die here immediately after being cast out into space? Just as Kowalski arrives to save her, it seems so. That's why after the long journey toward the ISS (International Space Station), she assumes the fetal position with the umbilical cord. She has gone into another womb. On the way, she looks almost dead and quietens before she struggles to enter the Space Station. Further, her entry into the Space Station simulates the entry into the "egg".

Kowalski, as a second sperm, cannot enter the egg, as in most cases. [Somehow, from the moment they were tethered together, I got the feeling, even the first time, that George Clooney was going to do a "Space Titanic". I thought he would have to let go. I think it played as a cliche in my mind minutes before it was going to take place. I also believe that he need not have died. But it might be a good way of getting rid of his character to have a lone survivor in Sandra Bullock (a plot device).]

Dr Ryan is reborn as she goes further into the International Space Station head first, after she assumes the fetal position with the umbilical cord. Before this scene, we never see her inside a space station or much less a shuttle. After the fire accident, entering the Soyuz Capsule is entering another womb. Again, she decides to die as a fetus, when George Clooney (the sperm that goes missing voluntarily) returns briefly, as probably Dr. Ryan's father or "who-knows-who" might have had sex again with her mother.

She leaves the Soyuz (birth) and enters the Tiangong-1 (Chinese Space Station), enters another capsule/spacecraft and returns to earth. All these could mean the evolution of the soul, rebirth and the reproduction process.

Sandra Bullock: Sandra Bullock as Dr. Ryan Stone is a painfully clumsy lead character. We wish she had been trained well enough to encounter bigger challenges that were not part of her training. It looked as though she was hamming her way throughout the film. I wouldn't want to criticize a great actress so much given how difficult the role was and how well she did. Yet, even her excessive gasping was a bit or a lot irritating at times.

Wouldn't the NASA teach astronauts and engineers some Indian Yoga breathing exercises to retain and make optimum use of available oxygen? Somehow, the film is about wastage. While George Clooney tells her to breathe slowly to save oxygen, he keeps spacewalking with his jet pack minutes before, which he could save for later, though he is supposed to be testing the technology.

Knowledge of the use of breath (like pranayama) tells me how disastrous it is to breathe heavily even in our daily atmosphere like here on earth. Sandra Bullock keeps throwing out breaths in heaps like she is going to throw up, which could blind her, as a real astronaut said on the website, "Vulture". It is common knowledge how merely pouring out your breath can cause you to faint.

Breathing Heavy: Of course, she is out on space, she says she can't breathe, she is cast out into space but reducing panic levels can cause your breathe to slow down, though difficulty in breathing is understood. At least, breathing slowly can stretch the time in between breaths, which can prolong your oxygen.

I really wished Sandra Bullock better died given how clumsy she was. I wanted her to stop breathing heavy more than anything. Matthew McConaughey was a more experienced pilot/astronaut in the Interstellar and at times he breathed heavy but this breathing of Sandra Bullock wasn't like it. Did anything go wrong in regard to her breathing? Am I missing something? I would like to be corrected if wrong.

[Actually, when you are about to die, accept that you are going to die, which is actually the acceptance of the "fact" that we are all going to, eventually, die. A life impulse from inside us will spring beginning from this moment of acceptance, which will save us from anything on earth or beyond. Dr Ryan Stone ought to have done that.]

The Interpretations

It could also be said that her acceptance of death saved her, if she really were saved, according to the many interpretations of the ending. To the uninitiated, Sandra Bullock died in the Russian Soyuz before George Clooney appeared again and she dreamed the whole thing from there on. While this is one of the esoteric interpretations, a much mundane interpretation is that she truly saved herself and came back to planet earth. For some like me, she showed the rebirth and reproduction process throughout the movie.

7am Arivu Review -- An Unintellectual Rhetoric!

7AM ARIVU runs full houses at Satyam, Devi, Escape, Fame National, Inox and PVR which would account to about Rs. 1+ crore collections (gross) within the first five days to the weekend in Chennai alone. Yet, there are those who don't get tickets to watch the movie. The crowd at the billing counters for the snacks is overwhelming.

Suriya's market graph would rise, AR Murugadoss would rewrite his CV and Udhayanidhi Stalin would bag it all. Suriya's highest (to my knowledge) was Rs. 78 lakhs in Chennai for Singam but surely the five Diwali festive days would make it go past Rs. 1 crore which would be known by Tuesday. Ajith scored Rs. 1.79 crore in the opening weekend for Mankatha. 7am Arivu could be much close.

Suriya, the Rs. 10+ crore star is worth the money -- if you completely exploit him as Bodhidharman. Suriya's well-trained prowess comes to the fore in the first few scenes itself. The elegance with which he performs martial arts is awe-inspiring. 7am Arivu is a compulsive/compelling watch for families try to get a glimpse of the film, good or bad. Post-script opinions do not matter by which time the audience have shelled out hundreds.

The marketing began when AR Murugadoss proclaimed the surge of Tamil spirit that would result from watching the movie. He went so far as to say "Ovvoru Thamizhanum". So, every Tamilian has felt that it is his duty to watch the movie and felt guilty if not. The same couldn't be said of Velayudham. They could voluntarily miss out on Velayudham. There is enough dilution in Harris Jayaraj's music from Minnale to Vaaranam Aayiram to 7am Arivu. He was considered almost at par with AR Rahman when he made his debut. The feeling gradually subsided in 12B and other films post 2003.

As I get to know from circles, Harris Jayaraj, like most other musicians, composes music only abroad. He takes his friends too and the producer and the director wait till their hangover is reset. Meanwhile, Harris clinched Shankar's Nanban, when he was supposed to work in 7am Arivu. That's why, he could probably choose to align Chinese lyrics to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Baba Black Sheep! The background score towards the end is simply blaring and is reminiscent of the 70s and the 80s of the MGR's and Sivaji Ganesan's twilight heroic era.

The editing is not one that you would associate with Anthony. Carrying out proper discussions in the pre-production period would have proved useful. AR Murugadoss could have enjoyed autonomy over the script. Though he would have had discussions, there could have been no greater opinions than his. That's why, Johnny Tri Nguyen's introduction happens soon after the Bodhidharman documentary. I would have preferred watching Bodhidharman part in toto. Any other director would have considered postponing Johnny's introduction after Shruti Hassan's.

The part could simply have been edited to fit after Shruti Hassan's and Suriya's introduction. The audience do not empathize with the yet-to-be-seen Shruti who is under threat by a Chinese high-conspiring group. Since we watch enough number of Hollywood movies, we understand how dialogues are written. Tamil directors tend to spoon feed while writing dialogues in English. The film went to the extent of ensuring grammatical correctness to write bad English dialogues. Okay, it is the Chinese but Chinese hardly speak English at all, among themselves.

"You have to kill that girl" is the laughably childish and amateurish dialogue ever written. Why not let Shruti be displayed on a large screen than on a Chinese Jiangxi Shicheng laptop? A pathetic photograph of Shruti Hassan is shown on a Windows Photo Viewer. Moving onto the next scene, Ringa Ringa song is the most generic of songs you could ever see with limited imagination that tries to ape Shankar. Suriya's love story isn't that strong nor has Shruti Hassan been actually wrong in trying to bring Suriya under the genetic research. Can Shruti Hassan use genetic engineering to bring her father Kamal Hassan's talents onto herself?

She is clueless, as an actress and is doubly bubbly to show mere exuberance in Yellaelama song. Shruti neither hates Suriya too badly nor is she selfish enough to be wronged. The dialogues in their argument are forced and Shruti's bad performance makes it far too worse. It is just a pre-lead or lead build up to the one song inspired by "Unna nenachen" song from Apoorva Sagotharargal. The first half does not have much to boast of with Johnny Tri Nguyen reappearing only in the interval block to announce, "Operation Red has started successfully".

There is some fluttering of emotions and swelling with pride when Shruti Hassan takes Suriya to the museum and explains him about Bodhidharman and the lost legacy of Tamils. However, it is evident that the film tries to woo neighboring states too by the references to Aryabhatta and showing Telugu television channels' coverage of the new disease. Dialogues again, juvenile and amateurish, are irritating and mind-numbing when Shruti repeatedly utters, "Vaanga polam", "Come on", and "Call him immediately". The screenplay and editing prolong proceedings when they logically try to be correct by showing that they take the stairs when Johnny is on the lift. Why do they use the stairs when the lift is just coming up?

Here, they could simply move (out of frame) and Cut to Johnny, (the lift door parts open), would be understood as he comes at a later time after they left. Although for convenience, the one brilliant scene is when Johnny's "Noakuvarmam" or hypnotism would not work against Suriya. When Johnny gets lorries to motorcyclists attack the lead pair by simply looking at them, and when a bystander girl performs elegant kung fu, it strikes awe due to the spectacle and the resulting chaos. However, the climax and pre-climax sequences are epic fails.

The build-up takes simplistic and immediate propulsion to end it all. Suriya in a sensory deprivation tank and the laboratory ambiance create an authentic lab atmosphere. Despite all the plus points, even the dialogues on the Tamil plight do not flutter your nerves much but any little flutter is due to the recent memory. The collective emotion is purely exploited but this exploitation at least helps the vigor to resurface. Though the on screen scenario does not contribute to the feeling, the feeling is automatic when spoken about.

In the simple climax, the hero beats the villain after taking a few blows. Harris is on duty probably in another film. We distinguish - the sound and the sight. The orientation of our two primary senses are split into heading towards two different directions. Thanks to Harris! The final epi(mono)logue sounds good only because Suriya makes it sound good. Manjal (Turmeric) is an antibiotic but whose custom is it to apply turmeric as an antibiotic? Is it a Tamil custom, invented by the Tamils? I doubt. Topical antibiotic need be applied only when there is bacterial infection. Otherwise, it can weaken the immune system. Wouldn't it also kill the good microbe bacteria too?

With inadequate "intellectual" quotient and with lame arguments, the premise of 7am Arivu is built, that tried to utilize the freshness of the concept to attract eyeballs. Perhaps, there was some overconfidence and a little too much of concentration on the concept than on the execution. Perhaps, the only saving grace is that the film is not that bad as it is made out to be. The strength of the premise or the foundation slightly held it strong from a complete collapse. The potential of the premise and the production values made it a decent film, though not causing a sweeping impact on the audience which they would keep on talking about for days on end -- and that would not correspond with the pre-release hype. 7am Arivu - A Mortal's Combat!

The Rise of the Planet of the Apes Review - Aping the Apes

Rupert Wyatt’s rendition of the “The Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is a breakaway prequel of the “Planet of the Apes” series. Perhaps, it is to break the sequel jinx that haunted the film for 43 years after the Charlton Heston starrer “Planet of the Apes” in 1968. The Rise of the Planet of the Apes explains how the Apes became so powerful to enslave human beings as in the first part of the franchise.

Will Rodman (James Franco) believes to have found a cure for Alzheimer’s disease through a virus strain called ALZ 112. Experimented on Chimps, Will seeks human trials. All hell breaks loose, when the subject tries to protect her baby chimp. Will, then, raises the Chimp’s baby that inherits the mother’s intelligence caused by the ALZ 112.

When Will’s father’s (John Lithgow) immune system produces antibodies to fight off the ALZ 112, Will discovers the 113 which eventually makes Chimps speak. With all those new found intelligence, the Apes try to take over the world. Andy Serkis (Ceaser, the Chimp) apes the ape perfectly that even the computer generated younger chimp looks artificial.

James Franco is the usual helpless Hollywood stereotype amidst the mass destructive catastrophe, typical of Hollywood. He is at least the reason behind the apes taking over the planet, as usual. Nevertheless, his performance is realistic. Frieda Pinto’s (as Caroline Aranha) jarring accent neither makes her Indian nor American. Her irrelevant stress on the second syllables – quite atypical – makes her sound like an IBCA (Indian Born Confused American) that any top Hollywood actress would have fit the bill.

Several scenes strike the right chord in The Rise of the Planet of the Apes. When the apes can be unforgiving towards Steven Jacobs (David Oyelowo), you still feel a strong sense of empathy for the chimps. This works against the script when those you don’t care for are harmed by the Chimps, when in fact the Chimps are what you truly care for.

In Hollywood, the usual tie between man-machine, animals-humans are emotional allegories with interwoven universal messages for the mankind.

Verdict

The Rise of the Planet of the Apes is predictable right from the word go due to the umpteen numbers of similar films in Hollywood made using the same template. Nevertheless, the action hooks you in along with the visual spectacle. The younger chimp is as artificial as Bonnie Anderson – albeit cute – in the Toy Story 3 – to whom Andy donates his toys. The mocap isn’t that perfect.

Although not deeply touching, The Rise of the Planet of the Apes tries to sincerely connect emotionally with the audience. The metaphorical final dialogue from Ceasar has so many connotations and facts that we fail to acknowledge forever. The Rise of the Planet of the Apes – Global Warning!

Viscom – Visual Communication! A college in Chennai tried its hand in delivering the course – not knowing what lay ahead in future! We were one of the unluckiest of poor chaps to enroll in what was a liability to the college. We were no way assets! The administration was a penny-pinching scrooge – trying to make at least one tenth of every rupee earned.

How To See God (Version 1)

I was faced with the apprehension that every toddler had in Kindergarten including myself. Determination knew no bounds! Discipline was the keyword around which my dome shaped black shoes, skimpy lace, neatly pressed trousers, tucked in shirts, slim wallet (attributed to absence of money and business cards), stubbles on napes, satiny face, boxed hair cut and accented English expressed aristocracy.

Truth was barely the same. Here, I was supposed to be, and I was. But what had I been? For a year after school – unwilling to study – all my shirts had blue collars. Dense beard, overgrown mustache curving into the mouth, mild hairy chest unbuttoned, loose-fit trousers that suggested groin wasting – I always looked blue collar. Perhaps, the slight tinge of accented English, participation in intellectual and language forums, reading of English newspapers and the occasional word of praise from my mentor cum teacher projected otherwise – a depressed jobless topper in Engineering, a failed MA gold medalist or worse, a drug addict.

I was happy – with the intellectual aura I walked with, commuting on train or taking my muddy rain drenched streets. Even if others would not have known, I had known what I was up to. My mother and father waited, perhaps for the one surprising morning that announced them I was going abroad, doing crap or going to jail. My brother took his job, got paid in pennies and tried to balance it with my father’s stipend-for-retirement. An independent house, no worries for rent!

It was such fine morning that my brother got a 50% hike: it wouldn’t matter anyway for he was paid barely a few thousands. Mustering up some courage, he proposed, “Why can’t he study?”

We had never talked. My mother was the courier woman through whom we often spoke due to our past conflicts. “Who pays the fees?” said my manipulative mother. “I will try,” he said.

“Ask him to get application forms,” he said to my mother.

When all he thought was a Rs. 6000 fee for the whole year for my BA English Literature studies, I had tripled it by choosing B. Sc Visual Communication. Here I was; the reason for the so-called determination and discipline, which would soon fade away with time and friends.

Determination is tested, often by virtue of difficulties. Thanks to them, I lost them within a month. But then, I found it blissfully gratifying to answer the occasional questions thrown by teachers and vice-versa – asking questions to silence the teacher. Poetry, highbrow English, printed A4 copies of my short stories read by teachers – held as soft-copy in an enveloped floppy disk that didn’t work afterwards. I distributed my short stories to English teachers, striking awe. Finally, I gave it to a fellow student who lost the sole copy I had.

In an afternoon that looked like an evening, with clouds hovering in high altitudes, came a man who was bald. He had funny mustache, dense as a porcupine. He had worn long shirts, loose-fit trousers and looked like a pathetically poor man except for his paunch and well-distributed fat deposits at appropriate places. “Who is he?” said I to a face I cannot remember, because I did not see.

“Drawing sir!” said he.

“Bring it on,” said the man literally.

Some stood up in silence while others prepared to show their drawing notebooks. The action was unanimous – happening almost at the same time. Except for the preparers beneath – lunging forward underneath benches – those standing up had determined to remain silent, no matter what. It was funny to see that the silence was equally distributed and each bench had one or two of those non-finishers.

The man looked straight at me. “Who is he?”

“He joined yesterday,” said one of those guys standing up apparently trying to shift the focus on me, to avoid getting beaten.

That’s “enroll” bud I said to myself.

I stood up.

“What’s your name?”

“Dinesh,”

“Why did you join here?”

“I want to be a director,”

“Do you have stories?”

“Yes,”

“Come on let’s listen,” the man said with a smile adorned by his funny mustache.

Those standing up checked their wrist-watches.

“I’ll come back to all of you,” said the drawing teacher.

I told him a few stories I had written using particle physics, bio-technology and artificial intelligence that had him super awed. The bell rang. “Get a drawing notebook,” said he.

I nodded.

The first assignment was like writing bar codes. I tried my hand literally. The brushes had several numbers coupled with alphabets for each size. Everyone had a large metal ruler which I was supposed to buy too. I did. The ruler was not meant to be kept flat, since a brush was being used in place of a pen or pencil. The brush had to be kept on paper in a 45 degree slant balancing the hard metal part of the brush onto the edges. The line had to be drawn in one stroke. I tried. My hands shivered. I drew curves. The dipped black ink smudged on paper creating dots.

I showed my dots and curves to the man next day. I sobbed all night. I couldn’t make one neat line. I contemplated giving up smoking but the bar codes didn’t deserve it. They were too short lived. The bar codes were only one out of several drawing practices. I thought I could manage in drawing monuments, temple domes, spires, phalluses and in-depth details of sculptures that did not require rigid hands. Yes, sculptures were easy to sketch.

Most sculptures had curvy women titling either right or left. All I had to do was to draw too circles next to each other. Beneath, a bracket facing left below the left circle, another bracket facing right below the right circle! These brackets would not close. They would be like opposite poles in circular magnets that would repel. Beneath those brackets, a pair of closed brackets on either side, conjoined by a curvy “V” – Jeez, I drew a woman sculpture!

The drawing class teacher saw my smudged dots, thick to thin and thin to thick lines, lines that touched each other and looked like black patches, lines that curved to become a thin tail at the bottom with a thick head on the upper side. Gee, that looks like sperm I thought.

The drawing teacher looked at me and looked at my notebook. I know you would look. He drew his pen out and flicked the pen’s cap with his thumb. In a fit of rage, he started scribbling all over my smudged dots and thick patches. The paper slightly tore and the impression was on the next page. He tossed my notebook slightly in front of the table. I collected it and came back to my bench. Lucky, he didn’t tear papers and chew them with clenched teeth.

Well, to me, the system is flawed. I have the habit of overlooking everything and claiming whole systems wrong. Education must have taken research but then it is not without flaws. Exams are poor indicators of one’s real talent I would often think. Why would a drawing man, artist or painter learn to draw straight lines? “Do you know that directors need to draw?” said my drawing teacher very often.

Do you know directors don’t even write stories? I want to say.

It was on an assumption that directors needed to do storyboards that we were supposed to learn drawing. Well, I would hire a story board man. If a director were to, he would have to learn music, cinematography, editing, graphics, acting, make-ups, costume designing, publicity designing, public relations and what not! I would learn to write stories, and would learn to make them. To make them means the whole making process from pitching to releasing in theaters to publicizing. Did Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci draw straight bar codes before painting their frescoes and vault ceilings? Absolutely not!

Visual Communication is an assortment of several studies including communication, radio, video, audio, visuals, colors, photography, cinematography, drawing, graphics, 3D, 2D, languages and some peripherally dealt subjects as printing and publishing. A student must not be expected to have the same aptitude towards various subjects and if he failed in one or more, he had to be encouraged in what he excelled in.

Perhaps, that was the reason I failed and failed my brother’s fifty percent hike. Art and business are poles apart while education and subsistence are miles apart. When everyone thought I ended when I left the common consortium that believed to nurture success (in the name of college), that was when I was born again!

'Mynaa' is poetic and entertaining due to the incidents that create unpredictability being unlike a plain eloping love story. The only downside of it is the semblance of 'Paruthiveeran' which becomes inevitable. Otherwise, a neat film which wishes you a better Diwali! Bajaj Khivraj Dealer Chennai - The best and the worst

The Bajaj Khivraj Dealer Chennai is reputably the best but service-wise the worst. I recently bought a Bajaj Discover 150 bike from this showroom. It took a week or so for me to get to book a bike as the service personnel are so very dumb and are inept at handling the logistics.

They cannot handle the customers as well. My name is M Dinesh Babu. I paid them the initial amount so early but had to wait for another ten days to get the bike delivered. It was supposed to be registered but then the sales personnel, or of some other designation, advised me to take the bike without registration and said that it was safe to ride with an invoice and insurance cover note.

A little later, when I went for the number plates to be painted and all the accessories to be given, another personnel told me that I took the bike on my own risk without getting registered. I said, " I was told that there were no risks with an invoice and an insurance cover note."

The personnel could not speak a word again. Bajaj Khivraj Chennai near the Saffire Theater Mount Road still makes me go behind them for each and everything. Still the RC book is not given, and the insurance document is not given as well. There was a charge of Rs. 500 included as Other Charges which the personnel suggested was for the taking of the bike to the respective RTO offices.

The conversation of taking bikes before registration was triggered by this. I said, "why should I pay for the other charges when I took the bike for registration to the RTO office?" In fact, I was the one who had taken the bike for registration the buck of which was passed on to me along with the blame. I am still waiting for two more documents to be given (the insurance document and the RC book). There are no proper answers yet.

My business depends upon the time I spend. There is huge loss of time because of the irresponsibility of the Bajaj Khivraj Chennai staff. Subsequently, the loss of income on my part. There was confusion even on the painting of number plates whereupon a staff told me to take the bike for service first (as the bike was a little troublesome) and then get the numbers painted.

By the time I came back, the number plate painter left for the day. I had to argue with the personnel and learn that the number plate was painted but was only to be affixed. The one who told me to have the number plate painted after hitting the service center was gone. He came back after a while to make me lose valuable time.

Still, there is no proper answer for the insurance document and the RC book. Bajaj Khivraj Chennai near the Saffire theater is one of the worst dealers and that the dealership has several lazy stylish blokes who care nothing for the customers. They are freewheeling and stylish but don't care for the money you have paid them. There are other dealers as Bajaj KLN which I could have opted for, now I consider.

Also, I am looking for the possibility of the time I have spent compensated with through monetary means. Is this possible?

I am also looking forward to take this forward to teach a lesson to Bajaj Khivraj Chennai dealers who are near Mount Road for their laziness lack of courteousness in handling customers. I am deeply aggrieved over their treatment of me. I want to make Bajaj Khivraj Chennai answer me and my concerns. I would strongly advise and recommend customers against buying motor bikes from Bajaj Khivraj Chennai dealers.

Here is another link of my complaint at the Consumer Court Website. I would like to take it further. You may also comment similar issues and experiences and join this fight against those who fail to provide proper service. Consumerism is one thing to defend and there is nobody better than us to do it.

Bale Pandiya Movie Review - Piaa Bajpai the attraction

Piaa Bajpai is cute and chirpy. Liked her a lot. She looked good. Spoke to her and told her that she had a cool hair do but some difference would do. Piaa Bajpai is turning a better actress than so many other actresses. She looks cute and good too. Gibran, of SS Music fame, has become a villain like T-1000 of Terminator 2. He is impressive and sturdy.

Bale Pandiya is a screwball comedy film by 'Siddharth Chandrasekar'. The movie is to some extent appreciable for its different tone though turning silly occasionally. I have experimented with 'E-Prime' language for this review where there is no is, are, was, were, will be, shall be, be, to be, have been, has been and being. Difficult to write without these but the language looks good without these helping verbs. Here is the link for my review:

It seemed as though everyone was behaving as though they escaped a mental asylum and the three or so hours of the film was a complete headache wanting myself out of the theaters and wanting the film to end soon. Thillalangadi turned a Friday Morning Headache. Jeyam Raja might better stop making films, if he can do so and 'Jeyam Ravi' can act in better films, simply as he can do so. He is meant for better roles than this, since he has got talent.

Jeyam Raja is the spoilsport making back to back remakes shamelessly which betrays, "My mind won't do anything on its own. I copied in school and so would I do so here." Jeyam Raja is a curse for the Tamil Film Industry. Views expressed in this article on this blog are my own and not anyone else's. However, the review is a different thing altogether. 3 Children turn HIV Positive after Blood Transfusion

Just saw on NDTV! How pathetic! Three lives have to live with diseases in such age of innocence and would they know why they suffered AIDS? But when I hit Google, I saw that there was one piece of news each and every day with about 56 and or 20 children suffering AIDS due to blood transfusion. We, adults, do not even want to acquire HIV even by sexual intercourse.

These kids are destined to suffer AIDS through blood transfusion which they are not responsible for. The negligence of the meds needs to be condemned. Would it be the right kind of punishment to let those who are responsible to have sex with a prostitute (or even with a Gigolo) who suffers HIV? I am not in favor of a blood transfusion to them. Let them enjoy the pleasure of intercourse, while they know that they are going to be HIV Positive.

I am not autocratic but a peace lover of course. So, it would be good if the meds find measures where such things do not recur. Imagine and empathize with the kids! Put yourself into their shoes and imagine a moment where you suffer HIV! That will do to let us exercise some precaution. It is not as simple as it sounds to see kids suffer HIV due to blood transfusion. Imagine that it is something beyond their control, probably God's destiny of avenging for the 'Karma' they incurred in their previous birth or the first birth of their seven births on this planet.

Can't say enough but it is high time to say enough is enough!
