NTC is already in 4G sphere and now Ncell is catching upto it and has just launched its 4G service on major cities of Nepal like Kathmandu, banepa, Dhulikhel and Nagarkot. Beautiful city of Pokhara is their next target.

How to activate 4G in Ncell SIM
This process will work for both prepaid and postpaid Ncell SIM cards.
Type Q and send SMS to 324. If you current SIM is 4G capable your will get message accordingly and your 4G should be active at this point. however if your SIM is not capable of 4G service you will get message stating the same. If your SIM is not 4G capable, you can go to nearest Ncell center with citizenship of SIM owner and upgrade to 4G SIM for Free.

Please note that besides 4G capable SIM card, your PHONE ALSO MUST SUPPORT 4G in order for this to work.

I really don’t know how many services they provide but here is a list of few that I know off and use. I hope you have used few of them as well.

Tweak Firefox for better performance

Most of us love using Firefox. It can be said that it is the best browser out there. Availability of various plugins makes it even greater and more useable. Normally Firefox is a bit ordinary but using rich library of plugins and extensions makes it perfect. So let’s talk about some tweaks and tricks that you can apply in Firefox in order to increase your Firefox performance.

If you have been using Firefox for sometimes than you should have noticed that Firefox consumes high amount of memory. This makes it slow to start. To fix this do this steps:

(1) Type about:config into the address bar of Firefox and then press Enter.

(2) Then a warning appears; Press Button “I’ll be careful, I promise!”

(3) Then right click on the screen and select “New” and then “Integer”. When dialog box appears enter the following string: browser.cache.memory.capacity and then press ok.

(4) After this you will get another dialog box; in that just enter this number 16384. Than press ok and you are done.

(5) Restart Firefox and you will notice the difference immediately.

Regarding the number we put in step (4); it is a memory size of 16MB which we have defined. This 16MB is

the amount of memory that Firefox will use after the modification. This is a great modification that you can do to reduce Firefox loading time. If you have a lot of plugin installed than you have to follow this steps to make Firefox more responsive and make it load faster. I hope it helped you. Clear Private Data ( shortcut ctrl + shift + delete ): Clearing private data regularly is a great security tip.

Some more ways to improve Firefox performance

Remove addons: If you are not using any addons that is present in your browser, you might wanna consider removing it or at least disable it if not in use. This will increase your firefox load time significantly.
Increase cache size: By default, only 1 GB storage is allocated for cache but you can increase it so that more data will be readily available on the machine and browser doesn’t have to make more HTTP request. Go to Tools –> Options –> Advanced –> Network and increase your cache size there.

Youtube Error " Sorry, this video cannot be edited" explained

YouTube is one of the most visited site in the world and its collection of video is simply unbelievable. For YouTube creators though, there are still something lacking and people face many difficulties with no work around so far. One of this trouble is the lack of uploader's ability to edit some videos on YouTube. For some uploaded videos you get an error like Sorry, this video cannot be edited when you try to edit it.

The cause behind this error

If your video is longer than two hours, it can't be edited. You uploaded video should be less than 2 hours if you want to edit it.
Videos longer than 2 hours from live events cannot be edited. This means the video you recorded during hangout or other YouTube live streaming features.

Solution
There is no solution to this problem so far. If you have original copy, you can edit it and reupload the file. Otherwise there is no way you can trim or do other editing for videos with length greater than 2 hours on YouTube.

On a cheerier note, we have heard that YouTube team is working on fixing this. However there is no ETA or timeline given. So, all you can do right now is to hope that it will happen soon.

Download YouTube mobile application for Android. If your device already has YouTube application, make sure that it's updated. Once you have ensured that, open the application and start watching the video you want available offline. Once the video is opened, you will see a download icon on the right side beside video title and description. Click on that and your video will be downloaded and you can watch that later when you are offline.

To watch saved video, open youtube app, go to account section and you will see a section labeled as Available offline.

Nepal Telecom Friends and Family package

Nepal Telecom has finally decided to provide various call packages for GSM Prepaid mobile users which is available within Nepal Telecom network. This scheme allows users to add 5 numbers within NTC network and the cost for making the call is 70 paisa per minute.

To subscribe to Friends and family package send SMS in this format to 1415, FNFSUB*MDN. Here MDN stands for telephone number within NTC network. You have to send five SMS with different numbers to register five numbers. 1. For Subscription to package send SMS FNFSUB*MDN to 1415. (MDN = number, one at a time)

2. To change added number send SMS to 1415 with this format FNFMOD*OLD NUMBER*NEW NUMBER

3. To delete number in the list send SMS to 1415 with this format FNFDEL*NUMBER

4. To inquire about existing number in the scheme send SMS to 1415 with this format FNFINQ

Note: Here numbers in NTC network means CDMA, PSTN and GSM

This scheme is already available in CDMA prepaid/postpaid customers. In CDMA Prepaid, friends and family scheme will allow calls at 70 paisa per minute and in CDMA postpaid the calls costs 55 paisa per minute. CDMA prepaid/postpaid users can subscribe to Friends and family scheme by sending SMS to 1415 following the format stated above.

GSM postpaid already had Friends and family scheme but were allowed to add three numbers only. Now GSM postpaid users can add 5 numbers. To add five numbers send SMS to 1400 with following format

FNF<space><number1><space><number2><space><number3><space><number4><space><number5>

To list existing numbers for GSM postpaid users send SMS to 1400 by writing FNF

Enable Google Now in non-supported countries on any Android OS

For all of us Android fans out there who don't live in so called supported countries; are deprived of the goodies provided by Google Now. These goodies includes Google now voice command, Google cards and weather updates and many more. Frustrated with this limitation, I tries many methods to enable Google now but they were Android OS dependent and require many steps. In the end I tried the method I have explained here and it works with any Android OS and any android device. Here is what you will require

1. Android phone with any OS in it with Google now app installed
2. Hotspot Shield software (download from here http://www.hotspotshield.com/)
3. Connectify software (http://www.connectify.me/) or any other software that turns your laptop (with windows OS) into a WiFi hotspot device.
4. A laptop with WiFi in it and which can be used for creating WiFi hotspot.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PROCESS REQUIRES FACTORY RESETTING YOUR DEVICE. IF YOU DON’T WANT TO RESET YOUR DEVICE THIS PROCESS IS NOT FOR YOU. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE BACKUP OF YOUR DATA BEFORE STARTING THIS PROCESS.

First of all download Hotspot Shield from here http://www.hotspotshield.com/ Its free and the software size is about 14MB. Once downloaded, install it and we are ready for next step.

Now download Connectify software from here http://www.connectify.me/ or any other software capable of creating your laptop’s WiFi device into hotspot.

Install Hotspot shield and open it. Right click on the hotspot shield trey icon and select the option called Change countries. Choose the country as US and start the Hotspot shield.

When you start the software, you will see a new Network adapter in here Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections. This new connection will be shared using the connectify or other similar software.

For now, I will explain steps for connectify software but it should not be too different for other similar software.

In the screenshot I have explained what needs to be changed.

a. In Hotspot name you can choose any or leave the field as it is with default value.
b. In password field put a password of your liking so that you can connect with this connection later on with your android device.
c. Important part is the portion where you choose internet to share. In this section choose Anchorfree HSS VPN adapter.
d. In advance setting on connectify, choose your WiFi adapter.
e. On connectify firewall section check Allow internet access and Allow Local network address.

After completing these setting, click on Start Hotspot.

Now its time to play with the android device.

On your android phone connect to the network we have just created above. Open up a browser in your android device and go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ to find out your IP address. If everything is good you should get an American IP address and location on the website should show some city in the US. If the IP is still in your country you have done something wrong and you need to recheck to make sure that you have followed every step completely.

Once above step is successful, you need to factory reset your android device. I have tried to enable Google now after connecting to network with US IP to no avail. I think factory reset is the only way for now. Do let us know in the comment it factory reset can be avoided altogether.

Back to process:

Go to setting -> backup and reset -> Factory data reset and reset your Phone/tablet.

Once reset process is complete, you will be asked to restore old setting or setup new device.

Choose setup new device and during setup you will be asked to connect to internet and in this step connect to the network with US IP (it’s the network you have created using Hotspot Shield and connectify).

Proceed with normal setup process and in the end you will be ask if you want to join Google now service. In this step select Yes and that’s it. You will now have Google now enabled device.

CAUTION: NEVER DISABLE GOOGLE NOW FROM GOOGLE SETTING APP AS IT WILL PREVENT YOU FROM RE-ENABLING GOOGLE NOW FEATURE LATER. IF THIS HAPPENS YOU WILL HAVE TO FOLLOW THIS WHOLE STEP AGAIN.

This process works with any device with any android OS be it a phone or tablet. I have successfully tested it with my Nexus 7 (Android L), Moro G (Android L).

Nepal Telecom Dashain Tihar offer 2072

As we all know that NTC provides some good offers during festival of Dashain/Tihar and this year is no exception. Nepal telecom has just announced some sweet deals for us.

1. SIM/RUIM card for Rs90: You can but SIM/RUIM card for Rs90 with Rs50 talk time value. Scheme starts from 2072/07/01.

2. Discount on voice call: 10% discount on GSM and CDMA calls. These calls should be within NTC network for eligibility of discount. GSM/CDMA rate right now is Rs1.5 but will be Rs1.35 after discount. Validity from 2072/06/26 to 2072/07/09 and 2072/07/25 to 2072/08/01.

3. SMS offers: During the period from 2072/06/26 to 2072/07/09 and 2072/07/25 to 2072/08/01 get SMS bonus equal to the SMS you have send. For example if you send 10 SMS on this period you will get 10 free SMS the next and and validity of this bonus SMS will be one day. This scheme is valid for SMS send within NTC network. This scheme is not applicable for short codes SMS.

4. Data offers: From date 2072/07/03 to 2072/07/09 and 2072/07/25 to 2072/08/01 you can subscribe to various volume data packages on discounted rate. For GSM(prepaid/postpaid) you get 200MB data at Rs50 with validity period of 7 days and for CDMA(prepaid/postpaid) you get 300MB data at Rs50 with validity period of 7 days. Please check this post for normal rates.

5. For GSM/CDMA postpaid users, you can enjoy 50MB free data from 2072/06/28 to 2072/07/28.

6. For PSTN/CDMA C-phone users, NTC has provided additional 100 calls for free. For Rs200, 175 calls are available normally but for the month of 2072 Kartik you can get 275 calls for Rs200.

7. For ADSL and WiMAX users: For ADSL (volume based and unlimited) and WiMAX users, if your validity expires within 2072/07/03 to 2072/07/09, your validity will be added till 2072/07/10. For Tihar if you validity expires within 2072/07/25 to 2072/08/01, your validity will be added till 2072/08/02. For WiMAX users the validity date will be increased in this period but data volume will not.

8. Revised data package for WiMAX users (from 2072/06/26)

Nepal Telecom has finally come up with GSM Postpaid data packages which will considerably decrease the

cost of using GPRS/EDGE or 3G internet on your phone. This package is definitely gonna make consumers happy as it will be cheaper and more affordable for the masses. Nepal telecom has now come up with a data package for postpaid mobile users. According to the new scheme, user can now enjoy 200MB volume for Rs130.
Here are the details of the packages available:

200MB data at Rs130 with validity of 1 month - To activate Type DATA 200MB and send to 1400
500MB data at Rs300 with validity of 1 month - To activate Type DATA 500MB and send to 1400

Disable facebook auto video play on browser and Facebook mobile app

After a recent Facebook application update on my Android, I have noticed that the video plays automatically and thankfully the sound is off by default. This is really annoying for me as I have slow connection and this just make my browsing slower. To get rid of this annoyance, follow these steps

On your Desktop/Laptop browser

From the top right of Facebook, click and select Settings
Click Videos in the left menu (https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=videos)
Click the dropdown menu next to Auto-play Videos and select Off

For your Android mobile device

Open facebook application
Tap
Scroll down and tap App Settings
Tap Video Auto-play
Choose off

For your iOS devices (iPhone or iPad)

Open the Facebook app
Tap
Scroll down and tap Settings
Tap Videos > Autoplay
Choose off

If you cannot find these setting on your mobile device, you probably need to update your Facebook application.
