Hot Male Monday - LOTHAIRE and Vampires and Werewolves

I bet you've gotten the drift. I'm heavily invested in this topic since I'm working on a huge project involving vampires and weres...a few jaguar shifters and by the time I'm finished, who knows what? It never seems to get old based on what you read or see in movies or on TV, and I'm really enjoying being immersed in my fantasy world. Yes, I'm sitting here at the keyboard with a big grin on my face listening to my music and imagining a few adventurous moments and a hell of a lot of hot steamy ones with some hunky immortals.

In case you missed my Facebook page this weekend, I stopped by Kresley Cole's book signing in Brandon. She arrived first class in a bus wrapped with her book cover for LOTHAIRE... totally cool - incredibly hot! And she brought him with her. Here's my friend, fellow vampire author, Sharron Riddle (Julianna Sage) and the cover model. My other friend, romantic suspense author, Lorelei Confer was good sport to tag along even if paranormal isn't her schtick. Kresley used to write some very very nice historicals. Anyway, LOTHAIRE was a great sport and we got so carried away, we forgot to take Kresley's picture... (Forgive me, Kresley!)

Now who wouldn't want to attend a book signing with the hottest vampire from her Immortals After Dark series? It was great fun. Kresley has always been one of my favorite authors, and when I was looking for an RWA chapter to join, the fact she was a member of TARA clinched my decision. It's wonderful seeing her success...keep the IAD rolling!

I'm savoring holding the book at the moment. Since I'm behind on my own writing, I haven't started it yet. It's not easy holding back. I'm teasing myself...okay, okay I promise I'll give you my brief review next week.

Hot Male Monday -Can a Vampire Get a Tattoo?

If the author is making up the rules of the book as the story is written, can a vampire get a tattoo after being turned. I'm familiar with the process in The Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward; salt poured over the new inscriptions scarred, making the tattoo resistent to healing. The mark was permanent on the vampire's skin. Are there any other situations that can permanently damage a vampire that you're familiar with?

HOLIDAY MOVIES

I don’t know about you, but I think watching holiday movies throughout the month of December is one of my favorite things to do. Yes, Romance (you know it!) but the comedies too.

I hope all of you are ready to play reindeer games, because today I’m going to give you a one line plot clue, and you have to guess the movie.

OK, here we go. Some maybe Hallmark or Lifetime movies while some are go-to-the-theater movies.

1. Woman sends solider a Christmas card which draws him to her family home.

Hot Male Monday - Dance Like No One is Watching

Eliza March dances like no one is watching. The idea is one of my favorite concepts. (Sing like no one is listening is another, but because once I start singing I can clear out a room in a heart beat, I try to stick to vocal music expression in private.)

Dancing is another matter. I can handle dance, and I do it with abandon. If my dancing offends someone they can always look elsewhere.

There's nothing like loosing yourself in the rhythm and the beat of music whether it's a waltz or Zydeco.

I guess it's easy to understand why some religions ban it. Dancing can be romantic, beautiful, and graceful, or it can be wild, erotic, and hard -- often sexy, dangerous, perhaps even deadly.

I think of Riverdance and Lord of the Dance as a form of modern art. Not unlike ballet or modern dance, the multitude of variations of emotions performed in these shows are all a form of an Irish folk dance.

The stories that the dancers tell with their bodies can be as beautifully expressed as any epic poem or great novel.

Dance is a visual and auditory expression, and when done well, can be one of the most exquisite experiences to watch. But for me, an even more enjoyable one to perform. By participating in the dance, one adds the physical to those other elements.

As a participant, not only can you see it, hear the music, and emerse yourself body and soul in the music, you become one with the music -- winding yourself around the rhythm, losing yourself in the beat.

There are no rules about where you can dance -- in the shower, on a hillside -- alone or together -- wet or dry -- fully clothed, partially clad, or downright naked. Dance like no one is watching...

Hot Male Monday - Common Denominator for Sexual Tension

As Eliza March, I'm expected to describe all the elements of romance and erotic scenes. Sometimes I study photos and analyze what it is about them that strikes me first. In these, I'm evaluating them to figure out why the guys seem so much hotter than their partner (even in the M/m, the guy on the bottom just isn't as into it as the guy on top) and besides the obvious...I like guys better, there are the subtleties of body language at play here.

Describing the tension... He's way ahead of her...

What's the common element in all these photos that denotes sexual tension?

After studying many pictures, I found something in these.

I'm going with the tension in the guys' arms.

He's ready...

Sure he's lifting but the sexual tension that the scene portrays is reflected in his jaw first, then in the taught rippling of his shoulders and back, and finally with the tension in his forearm and wrist.

Dominating...

Coercing...

The guys are all tense and their partners don't seem quite ready. Anybody notice that? So what does this matter to me? I choreograph these scenes with words. It's important to have the tension building simultaneously in fiction ... It's my job to get it right. If you want reality, you wouldn't bother reading this stuff.

Getting there...

And one of my all time favorites...probably because I like her participation in the tension...her white knuckled grip on that belt.

Hot Male Monday - Hollywood Vampires

Mmmm, my TWILIGHT favorite is...

Emmet Cullen, played by Kelan Lutz. He's also recently been in Immortals.

Guess what I've been working on...

Right, a vampire book. I need a little modern day vampire inspiration as I headed into the homestretch. So in my internet searches, I stumbled across a few of my most recent favorites.

I saved a few picts for you knowing Monday is on the way. I still have to finished the sensual scenes (sex- for those of you who are asking "sensual?")

I'm afraid I'll be adding a few inspirational photos next week like this one - the menage looking one from the Vampire Diaries.

As usual I go for the naughty boy, Damon played by Ian Somerhalder is delicious.

It's a kick seeing how the rules are developed for each series.

Things change as needed for the plot. And that works as long as they don't stray too far.

My manuscript has new rules specific to the story, but I also stretch the old rules and add some new ones. The trick is trying to keep them plausible.

We'll see how well I manage that when it's done.

Hot Male Monday - SEXY AD Men

I have so many men to shop for this year, I'm trying to decide just which cologne would be right on each one.What do you suggest?

There are Cian and Regan, my heroes in WITCH OF AIR AND FIRE. My wizards -- Cian is all about the Sea, and Regan is totally Earthy. I think I found just what I'd like to sniff at their necks.

Then let's see who else is on my list...ah yes, Trent and Aaron from THE LION, THE LEOPARD, AND THE WOLF. What do you think you'd recommend for two great smelling shifters?

I know exactly what my HOT HIGHLAND FLING hero, Colin Fitzgerald likes. He's such a kinky kilted devil.

Let's see who else is on my Naughty and Nice List...

Oh, yes! There're my three Greek gods of sensuality, Damian, Zack, and Alex from SULTRY SANTORINI SUNSETS. I'm going to have to think more carefully about which of these decadent fragrances to choose for the guys. Each of these Atlantian warriors is more scrumptious than the next.

Rourke and Dane from THE MOON, THE MADNESS, AND THE MAGIC are two wolfish guys with a penchant for the good life. They may look alike but they're as different as night and day. What scent do you think a succubus prefers on her dragon shifter? I know what she prefers in her wolf.

Then there's Jake from ANY WAY WEST and the twins, Trey and Marc from DUAL BONDAGE: Roped and Tied. Three unique heroes who have great taste in women so you know I have to get them just the scent to suit them. Have any ideas?

"I just can't place that scent."

"I can. Guess what I want for Christmas!"

Evan Douglas always knows what he wants and how to get it. He's MORE THAN A STUD so I have to be especially careful when choosing his gift.

"God, you smell delicious. Mmm. good enough to eat!" But hold yourself back he has a story to live.

"I need the big city lights, I can't sleep at night. Some would say I'm an insomniac." Cade is one of my new heroes. I hope you meet him soon.

"Hmm, football's great, but this is better." Max knows how to be a friend and a lover, but trips out in the sunshine are about to come to an abrupt end for him in DEFEAT THE DARKNESS.

"I need a little focus here! No distractions, please. What? Yes, Beckham is a good choice, but her blood smells even better."

Another new man in my life is vampire Dylan MacDermott and his side kick is a werewolf hybrid vampire named Jackson Xenos. Caelin is such a lucky woman!
EMBRACE THE HEAT is next on my agenda keep an eye out.

"This was the perfect gift...well, you were the perfect gift, this boat was nice, too." Mosel says such nice things in ACROSS A CROWDED ROOM, but I still don't know if I can trust him. He and Jason are so secretive and they have such exquisite taste. I'm not sure what to pick for either of them.

My next cowboy is going to be all McGraw...

Maybe Mosel would like this.

The movie Immortals hit it big this week and so did we with this hot looking cast.I guess movies have reduced their costume budgets. Loin clothes are all the rage and a few blankets are thrown in for good measure. Hey, I'm not complaining . . . Henry looks good in or out of the suit.

Hot Male Monday - Writing About Him

The heroes in most romance novels make life difficult for a real man. We write them less than perfect so they have something to overcome but really, how bad off is a guy who is over six feet tall, has broad shoulders, a rugged jaw, slim hips, and a swagger? How can we make him imperfect when everything about his screams perfection-duh-sexy perfection, too?

I'd try but I don't want to. I'd feel more sorry for the average Joe if we women weren't constantly having to deal with our self image up against TV and movie heroines, or runway models and playgirl bunnies. My conscience is clear every time my hero's biceps bulge or his square jaw clenches. I don't feel the least guilty if he's generously endowed and has the stamina of a lion. I want my romance hero to be solely focused on me. He doesn't even notice the Hooter's chick giving him the eye, he tosses the attractive attorney's business card with her home number hand written on the back. He only has eyes for me and my happiness, satisfaction, well-being, and pleasure...

Pleasure? Please the man is an artist with those hands, and that mouth. (fans self) not only does it look edible he does things with his tongue that are illegal in most states. He's never too busy with football or poker to spend time with me and attend to my needs whenever and where ever. He cooks, looks cute in an apron and nothing else, knows what wine I prefer and how I like my feet rubbed.

Dream on ladies, this is why I write...romantic fantasy.

Mira fulfilled her responsibilities, denying herself pleasure for years, but she's escaped. On Santorini, she takes three men as lovers who help her make-up for lost time. When emotions start infiltrating the men's souls in her presence, they discover she's the one woman capable of returning their emotions. Now they must convince her to share their love and lives for all eternity. Will she believe their fantastic tale and trust in their love enough to make the final commitment? Will she accept immortality, their bond, and their love?

Chapter One

The flaming fuchsia sunset over the caldera enhanced the color of the crimson wine in Miranda Kelsy’s crystal goblet. The fragrance she inhaled smelled fruity and full-bodied. Mmm, it tasted even better. As she sipped, she swirled the liquid around her mouth, savoring the flavor and the moment. Her tongue flicked across her lower lip to prevent a small drop of the delicious local vintage from escaping. When she looked up, extended her tongue, and unconsciously licked her lips again, this time the local vintage wasn’t the cause. Another kind of local delicacy was.

The man she contemplated across the veranda stared back at her from dark sultry eyes, so deep-set and dreamy, she could drown in their depths and probably die happy. The sun shimmered over his rich, caramel-colored skin, and she imagined tasting him would be something she could relish. Across the terrace, their gazes locked a moment too long to ignore the interest simmering between them.

The light gust of wind loosened a strand of his hair. He lifted a well-muscled arm, ran his fingers through his hair, and pushed aside the unruly wave. When that didn’t work, he removed the leather band and shook his hair out of his face. She thought the shoulder-length mane enhanced his mystery and sensuality. The body-hugging black silk shirt he wore pulled across his chest as he tied back his long dark hair and her heart flipped. She couldn’t help her sharp intake of breath when his powerful biceps flexed and he made eye contact.

The same breeze fluttered from his table to hers, creating a warm gentle sensation as it blew across her thin, flowered dress and caressed her pebbled nipples. Mysterious looking and darkly attractive, the man commanded her attention. Something about him inexplicably drew her to him. Conveying his power over her with nothing more than a glance, his interest switched from her eyes to her breasts, as if following the current of air.

Almost as if she couldn’t help herself, she took another deep breath and encouraged him to look his fill. After all, he was the reason she was here, wasn’t he? Or if not him in particular, she’d come here looking for at least someone like him. Hadn’t she felt the compelling urge to come to this island to find a vibrant, sexy man who would suit her needs? This time she ensured she would be desired for herself as a woman, not for who she was or what she represented.

When he stood, she realized he appeared taller and more powerfully built than she first believed. Heavy muscles rippled across his broad chest when he reached to pick up the carafe of red wine on his table, and turned, carrying that and his glass toward her. For a large man, he moved with unusual grace. Miranda exhaled a long breath and kept her eyes focused on his instead of bolting like she’d like.

If she had a choice, she wouldn’t lose her nerve. There were a million reasons not to pursue this fantasy, actually, a billion—several of them—counting the money. If she immediately reacted to her first moment of panic, she wouldn’t take the time to consider all the reasons she should stay and take a shot at pleasure.

Fortunately, the courage to face her goals seemed to resurface the closer the man came. She wanted to let her hair down with a man who wasn’t interested in her ability to influence his way up the international financial ladder. Usually on the way to the top, women wanted to be taken seriously for their minds. This week she wanted to be anonymous.

The man coming on to her actually wanted her for her body, not her mind or position, and that was exactly why she stayed. She almost laughed. How many women could make that statement?

Bean Dip

Yesterday, my decision to seriously get back into shape slammed into me with a vengenance when I sat down on my bed and the frame cracked. It crashed to the floor nearly squashing my poor dear cat who was slinking around beneath it. I heard a little crack, split, crash, and a screeched meooooow as Bean Dip bolted from the room, and then I plunked to the floor, unceremoniously, with a thud. My husband's eyes opened wide and he asked, "What the hell was that?" Apparently he didn't notice the mattress crooked cock-eyed at my end or the glaring cat stares from across the room. After careful examination, we discovered the break couldn't be attributed soley to my weight gain since the plywood slats had separated at the attachment point, but you can't convince me a higher power wasn't suggesting I lay off the potato chips and jump on my exercise bike. (Four miles this morning!! Whahoo!) This is the second bedframe my husband and I have broken in six months so you can just imagine how horrified I was. The last one was at my daughter's house while we were visiting. Sure, sure I believed her when she told me it was already cracked. Everyone waits for their guests to break the bed before they fix it. Right?

So last night we slept in the guest room with nice stable metal frames. The cat came in, jumped on my chest, bumped me on the forehead and meowed in my face. I opened my eyes to find her staring at me as if she could read my mind given enough time. So I read hers instead. This is what she said, "What the heck are you doing in here? I've been looking all over for you. Is this where we're sleeping tonight? I guess the man hasn't fixed our bed yet. Wow! You're putting on a little weight. You should lay off the chips. Move over." So I did.
