Over the years a number of you have asked me whether there are any new large-scale gold deposits out there. To answer that for you, I've created a list of the top dozen multi-million ounce gold deposits in the world today.

Some of these gold deposits are being worked, some are undergoing exploratory evaluation, and some are

Usefulness of Gold Probes?

(Gold probes are essentially variations of coin probes like this Vibra Probe 580.)

Even though I'm pretty much old school when it comes to all things gold mining, I've always tried my best to remain open to new mining gear, equipment, and ideas. Along these lines, I've been pondering the potential usefulness in the field of gold "probes" for some time now.

I've been thinking about the content of this post for some time now and waiting for the right moment to bring it to your attention. So here goes...

Despite my own gloomy predictions and statements about the state of small-scale mining, California miners have won a small victory in their struggle against the "oppressors." Golden State bureaucrats have given the OK on underwater suction dredging.

Periodically in my own small way I try to throw a bit of gold mining philosophy into the mix here. "Bedrock Dreams," along with many other prospecting and mining sites online, has plenty of nitty gritty mining info to sink your teeth into but few (if any) of those other sites ever move beyond that narrow realm.

I beg to differ with those among us who decrie a simplistic view of the world at large and who loudly proclaim that there is no "black or white" when it comes to the issues confronting humanity. As many of you know, I'm not the biggest fan of dowsing rods and so-called treasure locators. That said, I honestly do try to remain open to the possibilities, my own skepticism notwithstanding.

I recently received the following message from David Robinson, a "Bedrock Dreams" reader, concerning dowsing rods and treasure locators. In this post Arizona gold miner G.T. Blocker will provide additional information and personal views on do-it-yourself (DIY) metal detectors. There's additional perspective to be gained here, so I urge you to read on.

Arizona gold miner G.T. I'm not a news junkie. In fact, I don't listen to news on the radio or watch it on TV, nor do I subscribe to any newspapers or magazines. I won't go into all the reasons why this is so, but suffice it to say I don't think the popular media has much credibility these days and I just got tired of their biased, politically correct bullshit.

Did old-time desert prospector "Short" Harris become a wealthy man after finding the rich lode at Rhyolite? No he didn't, and the same was true for almost all the single blanket jackass prospectors who once roamed the deserts of the American west searching for gold and silver.
