Polyps can be a precursor to colorectal cancer (CRC).

The study population consisted of participants in the Nutritional Prevention of Cancer trial follow up who were randomized to receive a 200 microgram per day selenium supplement or a placebo for an average of 7.9 years. Plasma selenium levels, body mass index and smoking status were ascertained upon enrollment. Five hundred ninety-eight subjects received one or more sigmoidoscopic or colonoscopic examinations during the follow up period. There were 99 adenomas found during the initial examinations, which were classified as prevalent, and 61 identified at subsequent examinations, classified as incident. Read more...

AyurGold for Healthy Blood

Does detox mean you need to feel rotten?

Clearing your inner sanctum can feel pretty rotten. Or maybe not? Nutritionist have studied the process of detoxification for many years and seen how when toxins are dumped into the blood stream for elimination it often does not feel good. There are solutions to detoxification that can be effective and far less uncomfortable. The term “detox” describes the process of removing poisonous or addictive substances from the body. Most people think detoxification relates to expelling alcohol or drugs, however, it’s also about releasing substances that individuals are unable to process and eliminate without assistance. These substances behave in a toxic manner. They can upset kidney and liver function, increase plaque in arteries, disrupt digestive function, impede bowel function and increase susceptibility to virus, bacteria, parasite infestation and disease. Most toxicity starts with ingested substances so could include sugar, fat, wheat, dairy, nicotine, drugs and alcohol. Stress increases toxicity, as do environmental conditions such as EMR, factory emissions, water, and air pollution. In the USA, Medical Doctors are taught in their first semester of Med. School that as much as 90% of illness they will see in practice is stress related.[1] Everyone is different so each person’s toxicity and need to detox is measured on a case-by-case basis. Read more...

AyurGold for Healthy Blood

Study Suggests Exercise May Help Memory of Fibromyalgia Patients

(HealthDay News) -- Fibromyalgia patients who stopped taking medication and then exercised regularly for six weeks reported improved memory function and less pain, according to a small, new study.

While the finding is encouraging, it does not suggest a potential change in clinical care for fibromyalgia patients, the study authors stressed.

Senior author Dr. Brian Walitt, director of the Fibromyalgia Evaluation and Research Center at Georgetown University Medical Center, is scheduled to present the findings Sunday with co-researcher, Manish Khatiwada, at the Society of Neuroscience annual meeting, in Washington, D.C.

Fibromyalgia is a disorder marked by widespread pain, fatigue, sleep and cognitive problems. It has no apparent cause and the pain is real, Walitt said, and likely originates from the central nervous system. It typically affects women more than men. Read more...

Improve your memory

Even a Little Overweight, Inactivity Hurts the Heart

(HealthDay News) -- Even a few extra pounds and just a little inactivity increased the risk of heart failure in a major study of American doctors.

"What this study shows is that even overweight men who are not obese have an increase in heart failure risk," said Dr. Satish Kenchaiah, lead author of a report on the finding in the Dec. 23 issue of Circulation.

As for exercise, "even a little amount of physical activity appears to decrease the risk of heart failure," said Kenchaiah, who did the research as a epidemiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and is now at the U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

The study has followed more than 21,000 doctors for two decades, measuring among other factors the influence of overweight and physical activity on development of heart failure, the progressive loss of ability to pump blood, which is often a prelude to major coronary events. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Eating fish found to have benefits that greatly outweigh its risks

By JAMA
Oct 22, 2006 - 2:05:11 AM

Boston, MA Many studies have shown the nutritional benefits of eating fish (finfish or shellfish). Fish is high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids. But concerns have been raised in recent years about chemicals found in fish from environmental pollution, including mercury, PCBs and dioxins. That has led to confusion among the public--do the risks of eating fish outweigh the benefits? Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

Eating well-done meat doubles your risk of developing bladder cancer

You may want to think twice about cooking that meat well-done, according to a new study out of the University of Texas. Researchers there have found that charring meat by frying, barbecuing or otherwise heavily cooking it can lead to the formation of cancer-causing chemicals in the meat.

The study explains that people who eat well-done meat double their risk of developing bladder cancer when compared to people who eat meat on the rarer end of the spectrum. This is due primarily to the heterocyclic amines (HCAs) that form when meat is cooked at very high heat.

Researchers found that three different HCA chemicals form during high-heat cooking that, collectively, raise a person's cancer risk by more than 250 percent. And in people who are genetically predisposed to developing the disease from the meat, the risk jumps nearly 500 percent. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

known the main causes of chronic health conditions

Many behavioral risk factors, chief among them smoking, heavy drinking, and obesity, are known the main causes of chronic health conditions. The previous studies showed that the chronic health conditions, like cancer, diabetes, or heart disease, in turn are primary drivers of health care spending, incapacity, and death.

But a recent study found that survivors of breast cancer have a much higher risk of evolving a second breast cancer than women in the common population have of developing a first breast cancer. Unfortunately, little is known about what lifestyle factors may make survivors more vulnerable to a second cancer. “We found that obese women had a 50 percent increased risk, women who consumed at least one alcoholic drink per day had a 90 percent increased risk, and women who were current smokers had a 120 percent increased risk of developing a second breast cancer.” Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

Moderate Drinking Guards the Heart

(HealthDay News) -- A Spanish study has found that long-term moderate drinking decreased the risk of heart disease by up to one-third in men and to a lesser degree in women.

The type of alcohol -- beer, wine or spirits -- made no difference, the researchers reported in the Nov. 19 online issue of Heart. The Spanish analysis used 10-year data on 15,500 men and nearly 26,000 women who were participants in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer study.

But for men, there was a point at which the coronary benefits of alcohol declined, and risk began to rise again.

The rate of coronary heart disease for non-drinking women in the study was 56 per 100,000. For women listed as low drinkers, averaging less than 5 grams a day, it was 42. For women who were moderate drinkers (5 to 30 grams a day), it was 36; for high drinkers (30 to 90 grams a day) it was 12; and for heavy drinkers (more than 90 grams a day) it was 12.

The rates for men were 398 per 100,000 for those who never drank, 318 for low drinkers, 255 for moderate drinkers, 278 for high drinkers and 334 for heavy drinkers, the researchers reported. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Health Tip: Prevent Bleeding While Taking a Blood Thinner

(HealthDay News) -- Blood-thinning drugs are prescribed to help prevent clots that could cause heart attack or stroke. The study found that the device safely treated leaky mitral valves even in patients with moderate-to-severe heart failure and reduced the backward flow of blood from the left ventricle to the left atrium.

After treatment, patients experienced less shortness of breath and reported a better quality of life, according to the study, which included 48 patients with moderate-to-severe functional mitral regurgitation, an enlarged heart, decreased cardiac pumping ability, heart failure and a reduced capacity for exercise.

Of those 48 patients, researchers were able to implant the device in 30 patients. The other 18 patients couldn't be treated with the device, because the heart's veins were too small, the device pressed on nearby coronary arteries and limited blood flow to the heart muscle, or the device didn't adequately reduce the backflow of blood through the mitral valve. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

Agent Orange Linked to Kidney Cancer: Study

(HealthDay News) -- There appears to be a link between Agent Orange and kidney cancer in U.S. veterans exposed to the herbicide in Vietnam, a new study suggests.

Researchers at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Shreveport, La. examined the records of 297 patients diagnosed with kidney cancer between 1987 and 2009. Thirteen of the patients, aged 39 to 63 when they were diagnosed, said they had been exposed to Agent Orange.

Documented exposure to the herbicide and pathology reports were available for 10 of the patients. The researchers reviewed these patients' age at diagnosis, tumor size, side of lesion, pathology and survival.

Nine of the 10 patients had clear-cell cancers, which typically have worse outcomes than papillary tumors, which appeared in one patient. One patient had both clear-cell and papillary cancers.

During the average follow-up of 54 months, four patients developed metastatic cancer and one patient died from his cancer.

The findings were presented Saturday during a special news conference at the American Urological Association (AUA) annual meeting in Washington, D.C. Research presented at meetings should be viewed as preliminary because it has not been subjected to the peer review that typically accompanies publication in a medical journal. Read more...

Immunice for Immune Support

Chocolate compounds fight high cholesterol

Chocolate has received a lot of attention for being a treasure trove of nutritional goodness. Polyphenols in cacao beans are linked to promoting heart, brain, and liver health, which has sparked renewed interest in chocolate as a medicinal food. And a new study adds to the growing list of benefits, showing that chocolate polyphenols also help to lower bad cholesterol.

Published in the journal Diabetic Medicine, the study tested the effects of polyphenol-rich chocolate in a group of 12 volunteers with type-2 diabetes. After 16 weeks, the researchers from Hull University in the U.K. discovered that the polyphenols helped lower participants' bad cholesterol levels while raising good cholesterol levels.

"Chocolate with a high cocoa content should be included in the diet of individuals with type-2 diabetes as part of a sensible, balanced approach to diet and lifestyle," said professor Steve Akin, author of the study.

It also showed that high-flavanol chocolate that has been minimally processed is much different than the highly-processed chocolate candy sold in most grocery stores (http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13371&p=23228&hilit=highly+processed+chocolate+candy&sid=86c3192d2b50e06be8bef07e5774ec65&sid=e454dc63847ad6950019788b9f93d90a#p23228).

Actual cacao beans are rich in vital nutrients, including alkaloid bitters like theobromine (a different substance than the harmful bromine chemical), which stimulates the heart muscle and dilates blood vessels. However, I don't know how well these products would dissolve in your water bottle. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

C-Sections Linked to Doubled Risk for Blood Clots

(HealthDay News) -- The risk of thromboembolism -- a potentially fatal condition in which blood clots block blood flow causing damage to the organs -- is higher during pregnancy, experts warn.

And having a Caesarean section nearly doubles that risk, according to experts at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. As a result, the group issued a new recommendation that all women having a C-section wear inflatable compression devices on their legs at the time of delivery to prevent clots from forming. In more risky cases, the group advised that women also receive anti-clotting medications (anticoagulants).

"VTE [venous thromboembolism] is a major contributor to maternal mortality in this country. The risk of VTE is increased during pregnancy and the consequences can be severe," Dr. Andra H. James, who helped develop the guidelines, said in a college news release. "It's important for ob-gyns to adopt these recommendations to help reduce maternal deaths."

VTE in pregnancy usually affects the deep veins of the left leg. Most women who develop clots in their lower legs will experience pain or swelling there, the authors noted. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Wikipedia Accurate on Cancer Facts, But Hard to Read: Study

(HealthDay News) -- The facts about cancer found on the website Wikipedia are about as accurate as the information on the disease found on the patient-oriented section of the U.S. National Cancer Institute's Physician Data Query (PDQ), a comprehensive peer-reviewed cancer database, according to a new study.

Although experts from Thomas Jefferson University were hard-pressed to find errors on Wikipedia, they did find the content on the site was harder to read and included links to more dense information than the simplified, shorter explanations found on PDQ.

"There are a vast number of websites where patients can obtain cancer information," study leader Dr. Yaacov Lawrence, adjunct assistant professor of radiation oncology at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, and director of the Center for Translational Research in Radiation Oncology at the Sheba Medical Center in Israel, said in a university news release. Read more...

Immunice for Immune Support

For Some Women, Knowing About Heart Failure Spurs Worry

(HealthDay News) -- Being well-informed about their disease may lead to depression in women with heart failure who repress their anger and other emotions about their condition, according to new research.

The study included 35 women with heart failure who were taking medication to manage the disease, and had symptoms such as shortness of breath and swelling in the legs and abdomen.

The women's coping styles affected their levels of depression or anxiety. She lived between 1580 and 1550 B.C., and died in her early 40s, say researchers.

Their investigation with whole-body CT scans found that this wasn't a unique case. About 45 percent of 43 other mummies also had evidence of atherosclerosis, an accumulation of plaque in arteries.

The findings suggest that atherosclerosis has afflicted humans for a long time and isn't just a modern disease. The study was scheduled for presentation Sunday at the annual scientific session of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), held in New Orleans.

"Commonly, we think of coronary artery or heart disease as a consequence of modern lifestyles, mainly because it has increased in developing countries as they become more westernized," co-principal investigator Dr. Gregory S. Thomas, a clinical professor and director of Nuclear Cardiology Education, University of California, Irvine, said in an ACC news release. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Human brain parasite alters fear

One candidate for that "wormer" medicine would be Alinia (Daxon in Mexico) but there is no perfect answer. Some of the ingredients, it turns out, seem to belong more to an industrial factory of some kind, not a food retailer. According to the McDonald's Corporation, its famous Chicken McNuggets are made with ingredients including autolyzed yeast extract (which contain free glutamate, similar to MSG), sodium phosphates and sodium aluminum phosphate. But that's not the freaky part. According to McDonald's own website, Chicken McNuggets are also made with "hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness" and "Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent." Almost impossible to detect, especially in its early stages, this pH disturbance can be attributed to an excessive build-up of acids in the horse's system, a depletion of its natural alkaline reserves, injudicious training techniques; and other closely associated factors such as high grain diets, the prevailing climate and workload.

A drop in the pH indicates an increase in the acidity of the blood. In lay terms, this is referred to as 'acidosis', but more correctly it is the LOWERING OF THE ALKALINE RESERVES.

The blood of the equine athlete has a very delicate acid/alkaline balance. Optimum performance demands that this balance be maintained within very narrow, even critical, limits. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Bone And Cartilage Growth To Blame For Heart Valve Disease

Source: Northwestern Memorial Hospital
http://www.nmh.org

Research to be published in the April 18 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology provides the first explanation of an active rather than passive process that leads to heart valve degeneration, furthering a Northwestern researcher's effort to lead a paradigm shift in the medical community's beliefs about the cause of valve disease.
Heart valve disease is caused not by a 'wear and tear' phenomenon, but by an inflammatory process likely triggered by high cholesterol that stimulates certain cells to reprogram into bone cells in the aortic valve and cartilage cells in the mitral valve, says principal investigator Nalini Rajamannan, MD, newly appointed director of the Center for Heart Valve Disease in the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Memorial Hospital and assistant professor of medicine, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, who examined diseased mitral and aortic valves removed during surgery for the study. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Liver Degenerative Disease

When compared to other health conditions, it is striking how little attention is given to diseases of the liver, particularly considering the rising level of concern about health and health-related environmental issues. Hepatoprotection (or protection of the liver) is a subject that should be of intense interest because the liver plays a critical role in all aspects of metabolism and overall health.

This protocol will present intriguing information about the role of the liver and explain why a well-functioning liver is essential for overall health. Also identified will be environmental hazards that constantly challenge the detoxification capacity of the liver. Research on the effects of alcohol on the liver will be discussed. Additionally, you will learn what you can do to support and optimize the function of your liver and thus optimize your future health and quality of life. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification
