Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am.

The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz.

The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.

Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.

Prince William has confessed that his son Prince George is "a little bit of a rascal" who reminds William of himself and his cheeky brother Prince Harry when they were younger.
Speaking to CNN’s Max Foster, he said that life has changed significantly since the birth of his first child with his wife Kate Middleton. "I think the last few weeks for me have been just a very different emotional experience," he said. "Something I never thought I would feel myself. And I find, again it’s only been a short period, but a lot of things affect me differently now.

The Prince also spoke of the moment when he and Kate presented their newborn child to the world on the steps outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital. “I think I was on such a high anyway, and so was Catherine about George that really we were happy to show him off to whoever wanted to see him," he said. "As any new parent knows, you’re only too happy to show off your new child and, you know, proclaim that he is the best looking or the best everything."

What was it like outside the hospital?
"I think more shock and dauntingness was the feeling I felt (laughing), but it was, the thing is it's um, I think I was on such a high anyway, and so was Catherine about George that really we were happy to show him off to whoever wanted to see him. As any new parent knows, you're only too happy to show off your new child and, you know, proclaim that he is the best looking or the best everything.

You were comfortable there?
"Yeah, I felt, again it's, it's not somewhere I enjoy being, I know that the position I'm in that's what's required of me to do. And I think it's, you know, it’s one of those things, I'm, you know, it's nice that people want to see George, so, you know – I’m just glad he wasn't screaming his head off the whole way through (laughing)."

That moment when you came out with the car seat. I mean, we had some warning that you might be doing that. Um, fathers around the planet will be cursing you for doing it so easily.
(Laughing) "Believe me, it wasn't my first time. And I know there’s been speculation about that. I had to practice, I really did. I was terrified that I was going to do some, you know, it was going to fall off or it wasn't going to close properly. So, I had actually practiced with that seat, but only once before. "

And your decision to drive off, I remember that moment as well.
"That was the most nerve-wracking thing for me, having my family in the car. But that was something that you were clearly determined to do… "Well, it's, I, where I can be I am as independent as, as I want to be. And same as Catherine and Harry. We’ve all grown up, um, differently to other generations. And I very much feel if I can do it myself I want to do it myself. And there are times where you can’t do it yourself and the system takes over or it’s appropriate to do things differently. But, I think driving your son and your wife away from, from hospital was really important to me. And I don't like fuss so it’s much easier to just do it your self. "

And you didn't stall.
"I didn't stall, well it's an automatic so it's alright."

The interpretation of the imagery we saw there, which went around the world was that this was a modern monarchy and a new way of monarchy, but was it that? We reading too much into it? Is it just you doing it your way? You and your wife doing it your own way?
"I think so, and I'm just doing it the way I know this, you know, if it's the right way then brilliant, if it’s not, if it's the wrong way then I'll try to do it better , but…no I just, I'm quite…I’m reasonably headstrong about what I believe in, and what I go for, and I've got fantastic people around me who give me great support and advice."

The baby is already quite a character…
"Well, yeah – he's a little bit of a rascal, put it that way. So he either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger. I’m not sure. But, um he's uh, no, he’s uh, he’s doing very well at the moment. He's, he does like to keep having his nappy changed, and…

Did you do the first nappy?
"I did the first nappy, yeah. Exactly."

A badge of honour…
"A badge of honour, exactly. I wasn’t allowed to get away with that. I had every midwife staring at me, “You do it. You do it”. // But, uh, no, he’s, he’s a little, he’s growing quite quickly actually. But he's a little fighter. He kind of, he wriggles around quite a lot. And he doesn't want to go to sleep that much, which is a little bit of a problem. But he's…"

So you're up a little bit at night.
"A little bit. Not as much as Catherine. But, um, you know, she’s doing a fantastic job. "

How is she?
"Yes, very well, yeah. For me, Catherine, and now little George are my priorities. And Lupo. Um, and so…"

I was going to ask you about Lupo. How’s Lupo coping?
"He's coping all right, actually. As a lot of people know who have got dogs and bringing newborn back, they take a little bit of time to adapt, but, no he’s been all right so far. He's been slobbering sort of around the house a bit, so he’s perfectly happy."

And how are you about going back to work?
"Well, as a few fathers might know, I'm actually quite looking forward to going back to work (laughs).

Get some sleep…
"Get some sleep. Exactly, yeah. So I'm just hoping the first few shifts I go back I don't have any night jobs."

One of Prince William's great passions is saving endangered species in Africa. He wants his son to experience the same Africa he saw as a boy and a young man, to spark in his son a passion for preserving the rarest wild animals, much as his father did with him…

You talked about your father possibly whispering quietly in your ear as he …
"Sweet nothings "

Are you going to do the same for Prince George because it’s such, it’s a cause that you care so deeply about. Would you like him to pick up on it?
"Probably. At this rate I’ll probably whisper sweet nothings in his ear. I’ll have toy elephants and rhinos around the room. We’ll cover it in sort of, you know, lots of bushes and things like that. Make him grow up as if he’s in the bush.

"At the moment, the only legacy I want to pass on to him is to sleep more and maybe not have to change his nappy so many times."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced their newborn son is to be called George Alexander Louis. He will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
The announcement at 6.20pm showed the couple have chosen to stick with very traditional royal names. There have already been six British monarchs called George – the last being the Queen's father, George VI. Louis is also a favourite and was the name of Lord Mountbatten, the uncle of the Duke of Edinburgh.

The announcement comes a day after the duchess left hospital and two days after she gave birth, and hours after the Queen met her great-grandson for the first time.
George was the most popular name with betting firms William Hill, Coral and Paddy Power. James was also a favourite with punters, with Alexander, Henry, Louis, Richard and Arthur the next most popular choices.

It was widely expected that William and Kate would not wander far from convention and select anything too outlandish for a prince who is likely to reign one day and whose name could symbolise an era.

The naming has happened quickly by historical royal standards. Prince George's father was not named for a week, and it took a month for the name of the baby's paternal grandfather, Prince Charles, to be announced.

Earlier, for the first time in more than a century, a reigning monarch met a great-grandchild born in direct succession to the crown when the Queen was introduced to Prince George.
She made the short journey from Buckingham Palace to Kensington Palace, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their son had spent their first night at home as a new family.
Not since the birth in 1894 of the eldest son of the future George V and Queen Mary – the future Edward VIII, who later abdicated – in the twilight of Queen Victoria's reign has such an encounter occurred. Though Wednesday's meeting lasted just 30 minutes – before the start of the Queen's traditional summer break at Balmoral on Friday – it adds another footnote to royal history.

Arriving in a dark green Bentley, the 87-year-old monarch was alone: the Duke of Edinburgh was at Windsor, where he is still convalescing following exploratory abdominal surgery last month. She had previously said she was thrilled with the safe delivery of her first great-grandson, who was born at 4.24pm on Monday weighing 8lb 6oz in the private Lindo wing at St Mary's hospital at Paddington in west London.

Among other visitors received by the Cambridges was Prince Harry, the baby's uncle, who is now bumped down to fourth in the line of succession. He has previously said: "I can't wait to be an uncle."
The duchess's sister, Pippa Middleton, visited on Tuesday night shortly after mother and baby were discharged from hospital.

After presenting their newborn to the world in a photocall on the hospital steps on Tuesday, William and Kate will now seek some privacy. After the Queen's visit, the duke, duchess and infant prince left Kensington Palace for Bucklebury, Berkshire, where the Middletons have a manor house.
A Kensington Palace spokesman said: "This is now a private and quiet time for them to get to know their son." Details of the meeting with the Queen, therefore, are unlikely to be made public.

Uncle Harry vows a life of fun for Prince George

Prince Harry loves having fun and he says he's going to make sure his new nephew Prince George enjoys life, too.

Last night, 28-year-old Harry was all smiles as he talked about cuddling little George, who was "crying his eyes out."

Harry, who has dropped from third in line to the throne to No. 4 thanks to William and Kate's new son, was visiting a London exhibition of photographs showing the work of his African charity, Sentebale.

It helps children in Lesotho whose parents have died of HIV/AIDS.

When asked about his mission as an uncle, Harry said it is "to make sure he has a good upbringing and keep him out of harm's way and to make sure he has fun."

Harry said it's too soon to say whom the baby looks like and that his brother William is a very good father.

He joked that he's prepared to help with child care, but "I only hope my brother knows how expensive my babysitting charges are."

Prince William and Kate Middleton are preparing to move into their new country retreat with their baby son Prince George. It is being reported that the new family will soon be relocating to Anmer Hall on the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk, which will become their primary residence until renovations are completed at Kensington Palace.
It is understood that the Queen has asked the current tenant of Anmer Hall to vacate the property as soon as possible, four years before his lease is up. The 10-bedroom Georgian property is currently being lived in by company director James Everett and his family, who have resided there for 13 years.

This week, Mr Everett confirmed to the Mail that the family timber business, Norfolk Oak, which is run from the property's stables, has already started moving out of Anmer Hall ahead of the lease, which was not due to end until March 2017.
He denied that he is receiving compensation from the Queen to leave early.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their newborn son are currently staying at the Middleton family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire.
It was revealed earlier this year that the couple had been planning major renovations for Anmer Hall. Changes approved all provide the house with greater privacy and security and include re-routing of the driveway, extensive tree planting to shield the property, and plans to expand accommodation, perhaps for the couple's protection officers.

It is one of 150 properties situated on the Queen's 20,000-acre Sandringham Estate, and is only two miles east of Sandringham House, where the royal family gather every Christmas. It was leased to the Duke and Duchess of Kent as their country house from 1972 until 1990.
Anmer Hall could well be the present the monarch gave to Prince William for his birthday last year. When the Duke turned 30, his grandmother gave him and his wife one of the cottages housed in her 20,000 acre estate in Norfolk, but it has not been confirmed which was gifted to the Duke and Duchess.
The couple are already renovating a 20-room residence in Kensington Palace to serve as their London residence.
William and Kate currently live in Nottingham Cottage, a smaller residence on the estate, but are due to move into Apartment 1A, formerly Princess Margaret's abode, in 2013.

The six-bedroom flat will become their permanent London residence, and their staff will follow them from their current base, St James's Palace.
The whole Kensington Palace complex has just enjoyed a spectacular £12 million make-over. And now the newly-refurbished building is to welcome a new resident – none other than Prince Harry.
  William's brother has reportedly moved out of his father's official residence at Clarence House in favour of a small apartment next door to the royal couple's London base.

Prince William's cousin, Peter Phillips, has opened up about the British royal family's excitement to welcome the royal baby, and has said Prince William and his pregnant wife Kate Middleton will make "great parents".
"First and foremost, everyone is ecstatic for both," said Peter, speaking to royal correspondent Max Foster in an interview on CNN.
"They will make great parents and it’s great to be able to welcome another child into the family, if not from a selfish perspective for my two girls to be able to grow up with a playmate."

The Duchess of Cambridge has spent time with Peter's daughters in the past, and was seen enjoying a walk with little Savannah on a previous occasion, accompanied by Kate's dog Lupo.

Kate is expected to give birth sometime over the next few days in mid-July, and the excitement surrounding her unborn child, who will be the third-in-line to the throne, is building.

Members of the press have been camping outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital where Kate will give birth, and Peter acknowledged the amount of attention the royal baby was getting.

"He or she will be under a great deal of scrutiny," he said. "That being said, both of the baby's parents are used to that and I think there is the structure and infrastructure around them all to be able to protect them to a certain extent.

"Sure, the baby's going to be in the limelight, just like William was from a very early age."

Peter went on to talk about how he and his sister Olympic silver medallist Zara Phillips, who is pregnant with her first child with husband Mike Tindall, were raised.

"My parents made it very clear to both Zara and I that when we were growing up, we were very privileged," said Peter.

"We actually had to go out and work for a living. It wasn't going to be presented on a plate to us. We had to forge our own careers.

"My sister has been hugely successful in her own quest and for someone like Zara getting up at five in the morning, riding ten horses and then going to a competition, that's hard work.

"People see the end product and they don't understand the amount of work that goes into trying to put these things on."

The majority of the public think that Prince William and Kate Middleton's baby will be a brown-haired Princess called Alexandra.

The current estimated amount that has been bet on the future King or Queen already stands at £1m.

While the public are still undecided on what the baby's name might be, William and Kate also have yet to choose a name. They have reportedly drawn up a shortlist of names for their baby, but are waiting until he or she is born before making a final decision.

Madame Tussauds is moving its models of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to a more prominent location ahead of the birth of their first child.

Le Mirror a certes récidivé depuis, indiquant vendredi que le travail n'avait pas commencé (ben voyons), et samedi que le prince William avait quitté la base d'Anglesey, au nord du Pays de Galles, où il officie comme pilote d'hélicoptère de sauvetage, pour rejoindre son épouse. Ah ? Vraiment ? Ce n'était pas plutôt pour se rendre dans le Hampshire (sud de l'Angleterre) ?

St James’s Palace has confirmed that the couple will spend the day “privately with the Middleton family” at their home in Bucklebury, Berks.

It means Prince William and his wife, will not join the Queen and members of the Royal family at the traditional Christmas gathering at Sandringham, Norfolk.

Royal sources said that the couple’s decision to spend Christmas with the Middletons was taken “with the approval of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh”.

The Duchess, who is expecting her first child, spent three nights in hospital earlier this month for severe morning sickness.

She is understood to be continuing to recover, but is believed to have wished to spend her final Christmas before motherhood with her own family.
