The composition of the current photo shoot reminds me of Ulyana's Haute Couture Collection back in 2011 ..The 2011 collection referenced the 50's or even 60's Russia where as the current collection is a little more "Anna Karenina" in my opinion...

Getting Ready for Summer 2013 with OYE Swimwear

I have good feelings about summer 2013. I expect it to be full of travels, and at least a week off just for the beach. While browsing online I have stumbled upon Oye Swimwear, many of you have probably heard of the brand before.

I find OYE to be very sophisticated and elegant. I think they have one of the most beautiful one piece swimsuits.

I simply love Tibi. A fashion house based in New York. I have contacted them back in the day, I remember they were gaining their momentum and I must say that Tibi has the nicest crew.

Pastel colours, simple cuts, ankle boots, minimalist yet edgy style.. love this collection.

Hen Jewelry

I stumbled upon Hen Jewelry on Instagram and instantly fell in love with the handmade jewelry that is showcased on Genvieve's instagram account (@henbygen).

Genvieve (the artist behind this beauty) gets inspired by her daydreams but also mostly by bohemian culture, native artwork and beading.

All of the jewelry is handmade and it takes 10 minutes and sometimes up to 8 hours to complete a piece of work. Genvieve uses mainly silver, gold and platinum plated materials. However, as pointed out, she recently ventured into the "Threaded" collection using mainly just thread.

This young and talented Canadian artist has big plans for 2013; launching www.henbygen.com a personal online store. However, right now the jewelry can be purchased on www.etsy.com/shop/henbygen

Lauren Ruicci is the designer behind LARUICCI; a New York based company known for their statement jewelry. One may recognize the jewelry from Beyonce's "Run The World" video or celebrities and models wearing LARUICCI pieces for magazine covers.

I really like the fact that there is a certain style, taste and edginess to LARUICCI pieces but most of all it is all reasonably priced.

This year I spent the Christmas time in Vienna, Austria, in a company of very nice and welcoming people. Took a short trip to Budapest, Hungary, and will celebrate the New Year in Vienna.

Zinaida Serebriakova

Russia's cultural side has always served as a fascination to me. Russia has given birth to many thinkers, artists, writers, poets that are known and respected not only locally but also around the world.
I would like to introduce Zinaida Serebriakova's works that I have grown to admire.
Zinaida (1884-1967) was born in Kharkov and is one of the first renown female Russian painter. She studied under Repin (a leading Russian painter and sculptor); she has also spent time in Italy and later graduated from Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris.
From my understanding, Zinaida's inspiration came from her surroundings, be it in the countryside in Russia, experiences of the Bolshevik revolution, traveling (Zinaida traveled extensively through Europe and Northern Africa).
I suggest one reads the detailed biography of Zinaida Serebriakova because she was not just a well-known Russian female painter but also an inspiring, strong woman.

WE BANDITS is one of Vienna's fashionably healthy boutiques. Fashionably healthy is a term that I use for a store that has stylish, good quality and unique pieces.

The owner orders exclusive and carefully picked merchandise from Scandinavia (Denmark and Sweden) as well as from South Korea. I really love everything in the store. I also admire the way everything was put together design wise.

The company first started organizing pop-up stores in Vienna and then opened a store in March of this year.

GOBUSTAN series by Mezahir Ertug Avsar

Mezahir Avsar is one of Azerbaijan's well-known artists. Currently residing in Konya, Turkey where he teaches at Selcuk University.
Recently Yunik-Design presented the Gobustan series, that are mainly paintings on papyrus.
The inspiration for the series Gobustan came from the place that is located in the south-eastern part of the Caucasian Range and is situated 60km south of Baku, Azerbaijan. Gobustan means a 'ravine-land' and this place is settled since the Stone Age. The area is one of the major and most ancient museums of rock engraving in the world.

The Last Emperor of Russia by Zakir Ahmedov

I have already mentioned Zakir Ahmedov on TJE.

I would like to introduce you to a carpet that has been designed by Zakir Ahmedov.

The carpet is a portrait of Nicholas II and his wife, Alexandra Feodorovna (Alix of Hesse).

This carpet has been woven by three women and highlights their craftsmanship. The carpet was woven over a 3 year period. There are 60 knots over a centimetre square and one knot equals 8 movements.

This carpet is a masterpiece.
It is piled.
Made out of high quality wool (base is cotton).
The colours are made of natural products such as; pomegranate skin, onion peel, leafs of quince tree, hummus, wild field herbs, and natural colourless wool.
Size: 3.2m x 2.2m
Thickness: 60cm
The carpet weighs 25kg.

I often wonder what is it exactly that made this brand so popular. I have no answers so far.
