I am usually wary of downloading/subscribing to just any report on making money on the internet - being advertised as free even makes it worse for me; except in rare cases where you have the "gurus" talking about it.

Today, 8th of March is celebrated globally as the International Women's day - Happy Women's day to all Women. According to the International Women's Day(IWD) website (a great resource for Women),

I am not a Woman though, but it is worthy I celebrate them as I spend my days with a whole lot of them around me. First is my Mum (great mum), she is worth celebrating today for she is a virtuous woman, secondly my Sisters..... (one is about to be taken away....oosh!!), my co-workers (I am the only man in the midst of about 6 Women - pray, they don't turn me into a Woman), lastly I attend to Women (mostly married Women(did u get that)) all day at my work place, I work in an O&G Section - if you understand me.

But seriously now, the high rate of Maternal Mortality is an issue that needs to be tackled (from the health angle) if we are to really celebrate our Nigerian Women. Akin did a post on Nigeria: The embarrassment of maternal mortality (you should read that).

I remember a student of one of the Nation's University coming to my work place requesting for data on the martenal mortality rate. We discussed on some of the issues responsible for this high rate, I remembered telling her that ignorance is one of the many factors responsible for maternal mortality. There is the need for the government and other Women focused NGOs to sensitize the public the more on the importance of attending Ante-natal clinics, giving birth in a recognised hospital and all those important issues.

There are many times, Pregnant women are rushed into the Government Hospital where I work and their cases are usually pathetic. Imagine a Pregnant Woman not to have attended Ante-natal clinics for the whole nine months of Prgenancy, or some registering in "Churches" or "Iya Abiyes" - Traditional birth attedants............. and all that.

In all, I don't want to talk much on the Negatives, lets join our women in clebrating today and help those in need...

kdIts been a while since my last post.......

work, school, stolen laptop, slow system @ home, not so fast internet connection, facebook addiction etc, has been responsible. These shouldn't be an excuse, you might say - (my response)whatever....

In a couple of days, I should be back on NairaBlog, I want to concentrate more here by way of writing all what I want to 'write/say' especially issues happening in Naija and whatever I feel like; and not just about making money online (though I have a bias for that) and will still feature it.

I want to thank those that have been encouraging me especially fellow Naija Blogger - Solomon Sydelle of Nigerian Curiosity ; NaijaECash and others.

Secrets to Picking the Best Affiliate Product to Promote

A fine way to pick out the best affiliate program to promote for your own pay per click campaign is to see what other advertisers are promoting.

So let’s look at the movie downloads market for an example of how to do this.

First we think about the obvious keywords that people might type into search engines to find movies online. I came up with ‘movie downloads’, download movie’ ‘watch movies online’ and ‘downloadable movies’.

I type each one of these keywords in turn into Google (or Spyfu.com) and look at each of the Pay Per Click ads to see if they are promoting an affiliate product and if they are noted down as which one they are promoting.

This gives us a good overview of what the most popular affiliate programs for a particular market are. As we have looked at several keywords and the same affiliate programs keep popping up, we can be pretty sure that these products are selling well and making people money.

I have created a list of the most promoted products in the movie downloads market from researching movie download keywords. Now I’m not sure if it is the same people promoting on the different keywords, but this is the list I have created nonetheless:

This list is very interesting as you can see just how many movie download affiliate programs there are, and there are bound to be plenty more too, but these are the ones that people are promoting.

If I decided to enter this market I would promote Cinema Now as this site appears the most on the pay per click ads. Although I would certainly look at the home pages of all the other sites to see if any others appealed to me.

Unlike the paid survey market, most of the movie download affiliates use a direct linking campaign, rather than a review site. I found two review sites when doing this search – one looked very amateurish and the other seemed to have forgotten to put the links to the actual movie download sites they were reviewing, which leaves a gapping big hole for you to exploit.

People like to follow the leader and there is no shame in this – why try to re-invent the wheel? So promote the most popular product first, but try to be a little different in how you approach it like having a landing page pay per click campaign instead of a direct link campaign.

When you’re making some money, take a look at some of the other affiliate programs and try them too. If you are successful, then people will consider you to be the leader! These are the secrets to picking the best affiliate programs to promote with your pay per click campaign.

Premium Templates from Theme Forest

Most times, bloggers or site owners generally find it difficult to choose a theme for their blog/site, be it hosted on Wordpress or Blogger.

I also had the problem of choosing a template for Nairablog, until I came across Amanda's blog where I downloaded this theme am presently using.

Template design could be a herculean task for "non-techie" bloggers, and it is a truism that your blog's template design speaks volume about your blog. It gives room for easy navigation and it allows visitors to stay more and come back to your blog.

December 1st - The Worst Experience I've ever had

I didn't want to make this post, but each time, I keep remembering, and always feel like crying.

This is the first real test I have to undergo as a man and It remains a question of "are you stupid?, how could you have made that mistake? were you in church on Sunday? what did you do to the security man? what did the bank say?" and all manner of questions regarding my stupidity, gentleness and all that.

The first day of December, when we were thanking God for seeing the first of another December in the year 2008, a Monday Morning and a day to celebrate World's AID Day; I left home with all hapiness, clinging my bag (containing my laptop, IDs and other school documents) to my side but alas, I ended the day with the tag "The Saddest day of my life" or better still "My worst experience ever" or "the costliest mistake I ever made".

I headed towards United Bank for Africa or is it UBA Idiroko, Sango Ota Branch to drop the cheque of the remaining change on my salary. The remaining change because my salary is being deducted 'cos of a HP laptop which I took on credit.

I got into the bank - among the first entrants around 5mins past 8.00am and knowing that my Bag couln't allow me pass through their 'yeye' security door, I took for granted my laptop by
droping my bag in the presence of a security man on the shelve provided for keeping personal properties because the safe couldn't contain my bag.
I got into the bank, filled the teller and droped my cheque, not spending up to five minutes only to come out to receive the greatest shocker of my life - my bag has disappeared - meaning bye-bye to my laptop which I am yet to complete payment for. It was like a dream (I am yet to wake up) I cried, whaled, contacted the bank's management and even the Police - all yet to no avail.

Can I ever wake up from this nightmare, my HP530 Laptop which I took on credit not up to four months has been stolen. God!!, why did I have to go out with the laptop that morning; why was I in such a hurry not to be too late for work and didn't take my time to drop it with that security guy; why didn't I read the caveat - 'properties droped at owners risk'; what sort of bank will a security man not know who picks what - as the guy said he didn't see anybody pick the bag; what sort of bank has a CCTV camera but they are not functioning - cos my bag was under the Camera directly.

Jesus, why me!! before now, I had always had that conviction that none of my personal belongings could get stolen but alas!

What do I do? Who do I blame?

I have done nothing but to place the thief into the Courts of the Almighty God.

Each month ending will bring sadness as my salary will be deducted for a property that has been stolen and I am not enjoying.

All my projects have been stalled!! I had the intention of keeping my blog up to date, learn statistical tools that are relevant to my job of health information management, develop web applications for managing health information and all that... and my laptop contains lot of research papers that I am also using to write my research paper(s).

I believe in God that I will recover my laptop, I have learnt the greatest lesson of my life, though I had to pay a very expensive price. God I believe will provide another one for me in a miraculous way, who knows I might win the John Chow Contest and have the $1,000 for myself.

God help me and please don't tell me I'm stupid or too gentle (as my co-wokers said) - you will only be compounding my problem AND the next time you will be visiting a UBA Bank near you, think twice before going with your valuable possession and consider what the Police Officer I met told me "TRUST NO ONE"

Popularity among bloggers - Is it more money?

It is been said that for you to make money from your blog or your website as the case may be - it has to be POPULAR - there has to be a whole lot of traffics coming to your blog.

Services such as Entrecard, Blog Catalog, MyBlogLog, Blog Rush and others are known to popularise your blog among fellow bloggers. By subscribing to any of these services you are at least sure of receiving visitors (don't know if targeted or not) to your blog, and most especially with Entrecard.

One question that crossed my mind is - Is subscribing to these services and receiving traffics from fellow bloggers likely to generate more income for you?

One of the popular ways of making money from your blog is by displaying ads and having people click on these ads, whether cash per click or affiliate link or whatever. Another question is - do bloggers click on these ads?

From my point of view (I stand to be corrected), many bloggers are aware of a money earning programme and will like to find out ways of becoming members of that programme instead of clicking ads found on your blog/website.

On a final note - you as a blogger do you click on ads that could generate money for your fellow blogger?

I would also appreciate if you could tell us as a way of comment your experience as per income earning after subscribing to any/all of these traffic generating services.

Why you may not make MONEY blogging

People now venture into the blogging world basically because they want to earn money from it. Some of the adverts in our national dailies and even adverts here on the internet are full of advertisers misleading people about a new internet program where people can earn instant cash and they call it blogging.

This I call misleading not because it is impossible to make money through blogging but because of associating blogging with instant money making.

From my knowledge and the little experience I have garnered in the blogosphere, you do not set up a blog with the primary aim of making money from it. You set up a blog because you have a passion for something and you believe others out there may benefit from that which you know - thereby you don't even mind if you don't earn a dime from it.

Setting up a blog with the primary aim of making money from it might not turn out to be. Many who have dabbled into this in the past…..have failed. How do you identify this category of people - they fill their blog with ads right from the start with no quality post.

I am not saying you cannot make money from your blog, its very possible, but that should not be your primary objective.

In starting up a blog, identify your interest, that is, your passion - what you always enjoy doing and not really want to get paid for it.
Also you have to create a niche market for yourself, you might carry out an online research on what people are looking for on that subject which you are good on.
Then, write quality content, what will interest people, content that will make people always come back to your blog and leave comments.
Traffic is another major issue - you have to find ways of getting massive traffic to you blog - there are a whole lot of ways of doing things (I’ll write more about this in subsequent post).
When you might have gained people’s/reader’s trust, there and then, the ads may start rolling in, that is when your readers will be willing to patronise what you recommend because they have confidence in you.

Blogging is not just what those adverts say, its more than that but not difficult to attain.

You may wonder why I have decided to write about why you may not make money blogging instead of identifying ways of making money blogging. I have done this just to let you know that it is not a child's play for beginners to earn from their blogs but then it could be when you've mastered the art. Yes art of blogging.

Though there are a lot of blogs out here in the blogosphere telling you how and programs you might join to earn money from your blog. I intend to bring you a massive list of money making techniques in a short while from now.

This is just a way of relaunching NAIRABLOG.

Consistency and Seriousness as a Blogger

One of the many things every blogger needs to succeed is CONSISTENCY AND SERIOUSNESS.

I need to survive in the blogosphere, but I have been lacking it - partly due to not having time to write, unseriousness and unfavourable economic condition.

This is to say that I pray to put all the seriousness I can gather into this blog by way of waking it up and turning it into a money making machine which its supposed to be for you and I.

Blogging as a Nigerian is not that easy especially if you don't have the basic necessities of your own (a laptop/good internet connection), coupled with epileptic power and running your blog on a free host such as mine. All this I pray to change asap....... with my consistency and seriousness

I have just discovered another way through which Bloggers can earn money through their blog.

Its called Blogvertise.

Once you own a blog that is at least 20days old with some reasonable post, all you have to do is signup with blogvertise, let them approve your blog and hei! you start receiving opportunities to sort of review products/services in you own lingo.

Entrecard and its never ending traffic generation

Entrecard otherwise known as your blog business card is fast growing in and around the blogosphere. A blogger who by this time has not heard about Entrecard or is not already subscribed to Entrecard is probably living in planet Mars or somewhere but not earth.

One thing about Entrecard is that it is fast taking over the business of generating traffic to one's blog. It is easy to register and does not requires the approval of ones blog before joining the network.

The goal of every blogger is to get one's content to be read by others - bloggers and non-bloggers alike. It is also necessary for a blog to be popular so that it can generate necessary clicks that turns into earnings.

One question/reservation I have concerning Entrecard is that - does it really generates meaningful traffic i.e. are these trafffic contibuting positively to the growth of that particular blog? Many card droppers on Entrecard visit others blog just to drop their card and earn Entrecard credits without them leaving comments or clicking on necessary ads on that blog.

I think it will also be better if Entrecard has a feature that allows a user to register more than one blog with a particular email address.......(just a suggestion).

But nonetheless, Entrecard is a wonderful revolution on the internet especially to bloggers as it helps to bring enormous traffic to a blog, a blog gets popular, well ranked and some even earn $$ through Entrecard.

Blogging and money making

There is no doubt that blogging and making money are synonymous.

Many at times are interested in blogging just because of the money they can make from it.

In my sojourn on the internet, trying to look for ways of making money, I found out that there are a whole lot of money making opportunities on the internet - you just have to be wise enough not to fall for the 'fake' ones but then, there are genuine ones (will talk about them in subsequent posts).

In the course of my search, I discovered blogging and I immediately liked it and started my own blogs like Pokenosing, Software Review and Nairablog (these are functioning ones).

Blog/Weblog can be referred to as a personal online journal, whereby posts are arranged according to the last published post. It may be likened to a personal website but different to a website in that, posts are dynamic, not static as agianst a website and one important feature of a blog is the ability to interact with your readers, i.e. through leaving comments.

Now back to the issue of making money, I will like to say that it is not always the best to start a blog with the sole aim of making money from it - but rather start a blog because you have something to offer which you know people out here (on the web) will be interested in knowing about.

There is something called Niche, this is the area in which you want to specialise, you should try as much as possible to create a Niche for yourself - i.e. an area where you an expert in (it should be something you love and you must be able to write about it).

For you to turn your blog into a money making instrument, you must be able to write good content and must be able to drive traffic to your blog.
With your expertise on the field you are writing about, you will be able to write good contents and then people/readers will take note of your blog and then the traffic will come to your blog.

There is more to writing good contents and driving traffic to your site - this is done through internet marketing............... I will continue on this in my next post.

Its a brand new year - My year of stepping into the Next Level.

I started this blog sometimes in 2007 with the aim of bringing money making tips/tutorials to upcoming bloggers alike.
Due to time constraints and my busy schedule, I have been unable to update my blog on a regular basis(I hate that).

By the special grace of God this year, I hope to bring in the news and much more to my readers(potential & ardent).

Make money through blogging?.... yea its possible

Welcome to Naira Blog..

Yea, after spending some years on the internet generally, I later discovered that the internet - apart from the great information resource its known to be, can also be a resource/way of making
money....now I mean legally (not scam, fraud).

Now, after frolicking on the internet searching for ways of making money on the internet, to be sincere I discovered a whole lot of ways from online surveys, to affiliate programs and the likes which I am likely to share soon on NairaBlog- but there was something that usually hinders me - that used to be money for investment.

After some time, I later discovered blogging, which you could actually embark upon without having to spend - at the beginning though; and its many benefits. Apart from the fact that blogging allows you to air your views, share resources and all that, it is also a great way of making money on the internet.

Probloggers such as Darren, Yaro and JohnChow, have shown the whole world that its possible to actually make money through blogging.

I decided to create and maintain this blog for all aspiring bloggers (especially my fellow Africans and Nigerians) and help them on their journey to making it through blogging.

For people new to Blogging, I'll like you to read my previous post on "What all should a Blogger know?" for a start while I promise to bring more tips on starting/maintaing a blog and making money through blogging which is actually my aim of creating NairaBlog.

My own response is this - a blogger should be able to write, write and write................

Its all about blogging............

This is my grand entry into the world of blogging.

I would have loved to go solo, i.e. register my own domain name on a hosting platform but I will do that when I've earned a considerable amount to do that.

As I said its all about blogging and Naira (Nigerian currency) and I hope to bring news, resources, money making tool, blogging tips and all that form my Nigerian context and world over...............though have a bias for Nigeria.
